LaDiDaDi · 25/07/2009 23:25

Oh dear.

I eat houmous around 3 times/week and I love it. Please don't tell me it's banned?

ViktoriaMac · 26/07/2009 01:50

Hey ladies!

A woman in Oregon designed her own self-cleaning house.

inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blgabe.htm

GoldenSnitch · 26/07/2009 07:55

I think if we listened to everything we weren't allowed to eat - we'd starve! As long as you're being careful about food hygiene and only eating stuff that's fresh and from somewhere reliable then you'll be fine

madmissy · 26/07/2009 09:11

tbh i eat what i like with exception of raw meat and the certain cheeses otherwise i wld be neurotic over it lol think just hygiene with food is important

how cool to have a self cleaning house! all i want now is someone to press the buttons for me

Claire236 · 26/07/2009 16:30

Wouldn't coleslaw & potato salad only be a problem as they have mayo in which is fine if it's the bought stuff anyway? I tend to eat the same as usual at home as I know where all my food comes from & how fresh it is etc. Bit more careful when I'm out.

madmissy · 26/07/2009 16:39

yes thats what i would think its the raw egg thats a prob in homemade..

GoldenSnitch · 26/07/2009 18:12

NHS don't seem to differentiate between shop bought and homemade - they just say no to the lot!

madmissy · 26/07/2009 19:16

lol oh well

LittleMonkeysMummy · 26/07/2009 20:15

I asked my midwife this when I was expecting DD. She said as long as it was shop bought it was fine as they don't contain raw eggs. It's only homemade that could be an issue. Oh and apparently restaurants aren't allowed to sell homemade mayo either!

I was completely stressing out last time as all I could keep down was sweet and sour prawns and prawn mayo sandwiches - DD appears to have turned out alright

BexJ78 · 26/07/2009 20:43

Hello, anniebigpants pls could you add me to the long list of due dates...i feel a bit left out!
my due date is 5th Dec and my postcode is YO26.
Thank you!

GoldenSnitch · 26/07/2009 21:02

I've been taking everything my midwife says with a pinch of salt after she assured me that Parma Ham was OK. Every other place I've looked has given it an absolute no! It's raw meat FGS!!

madmissy · 26/07/2009 22:33

oh parma ham i love that!!

Mybox · 26/07/2009 23:06

Hello BexJ78 I've just joined this thread as I've just found out I'm more preg than I thought. Hope everything is going well for you. Best wishes.

ViktoriaMac · 27/07/2009 01:27

I had to sit and watch everyone eat chicken liver parfait at a wedding today, it was so painful, esp. as DH left most of his as he hates pate. I was going to go ahead and have it, but the pregnant waitress brought the chef out to list all the reasons why I shouldn't eat it. Table full of strangers all staring, so had to concede and had two slices of crappy mozzarella with a couple of sprigs of rocket. Then the meat was rare, chef wouldn't serve me this either and brought me some dubious potato gnocchi with heaps of wilted spinach. Roll on christmas, I am going to stuff myself!

madmissy · 27/07/2009 08:12

lol thats torture!!

i can't believe how much things change now we are not allowed liver (i hate it so np for me) but mum was encouraged to eat lots when she was pg with me and my twin sisters! in just the space of 4 years from my dd1 and even the 2yrs with dd2 things have changed with care etc

alexpolismum · 27/07/2009 08:54

No liver??? I thought liver was ok as long as it's cooked all the way through, not rare. I ate loads when pregnant with dd, and she's turned out fine!

GoldenSnitch · 27/07/2009 09:03

Babycenter says "Experts recommend that pregnant women (and those planning to become pregnant), should not eat liver or any liver products, such as liver sausage or pâté. Why? Liver contains very high levels of the retinol form of vitamin A, which can be harmful to your developing baby, particularly in the first trimester."

GoldenSnitch · 27/07/2009 09:03

and it's gross!

Devongirl · 27/07/2009 09:11

Hello - I'll add in my details after the amnio results. The test is this thursday and the results one week after but I wont have a pc from that day until the end of august - so will post an update then.

On the topic of what to/not eat - I didn't know I was preg so ate everything - deli salads, soft cheese, glass of wine, took vits with 100% vitamin A, gardening when my hands got covered in soil, lots of proper coffee, trying to think what else. I hope everything is ok.

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/07/2009 14:14

Can the ladies who have had their baby's gender confirmed come and do my experiment please ?? here

and of course those who don't know are welcome

GoldenSnitch · 27/07/2009 15:19

What does it mean if you can't feel any difference at all!!

alexpolismum · 27/07/2009 15:20

Oh well, I didn't know that about liver.

GoldenSnitch - how can you not like liver?!? It's so tasty!

Just to add to the list - you shouldn't drink coca cola at least within 30 mins of eating fruit or vegetables, as there is something in the cola that prevents the gut from absorbing vitamins. Actually, this goes whether you are pregnant or not, as cola always has this effect.

Plus, it's horrible stuff anyway! [sticking tongue out emoticon]

alexpolismum · 27/07/2009 15:23

GoldenSnitch - it means you're having one of each! Boy/girl twins, perhaps?!

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/07/2009 15:32

Or a hermaphrodite ??

Sorry - only kidding. I have no idea and am a bit dubious about the whole thing (obviously)

On the food thing - I've been eating pretty much what I want. Had no idea about coleslaw/humous etc. I did know about liver but have had a little bit (but only about twice since being pg). I have been drinking coca cola like its being going out of fashion - it was the only thing that kept the nausea away. Luckily (!), I didn't eat much fruit or veg so there's nothing to worry about
