OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BeckyBendyLegs · 08/06/2009 10:22

I don't think we're allowed here to take siblings to the 20-week scan. DS1 came for DS2's 20-week scan though (at the JR in Oxford).

sleeplessinthecity · 08/06/2009 10:46

Hi all, catching up still with all the posts..been away on second honeymoon with DH for 4 days..BLISS...

laugs hope you're feeling better, as the others said try not to worry too much.
mumsie welcome and have you tried Vit b6 for your headaches...mine go pretty quickly after i take them. Also becky did you try them for mouth ulcers??

I threw up twice on the break but all in all didn't feel too bad..getting bigger and feeling the baby a lot. Tried to look pregnant amongst the uber skinny people by the pool! but hid my belly as much as I could!

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Tamlin · 08/06/2009 11:13

They don't want siblings at the 20 week scan here either. I can see why - when they're trying to count vertebrae and check the atrium of the heart, a kid saying 'What's THAT? What's THAT?' could be a distraction. I'll also admit that having DS in the room when they diagnosed my missed miscarriage (we couldn't find childcare at 8 am on a Monday) wasn't much of a picnic either. It's just an absolute PITA trying to find childcare...

I finally have an anomaly scan date, along with a note from the head midwife telling me sternly that if I'm going to give birth at Hospital B and not A, I MUST rearrange things so I'm scanned at B. Am really tired of Hospital A trying to bully me into committing to giving birth there, and I don't understand why they're doing it - is it a funding issue? I seriously doubt they're that concerned about continuity of care, when I had DS there I saw five different midwives, all of whom were strangers. We still refer to them as 'Mean Moustache Midwife' and the like because there was no chance to establish any kind of connection with any of them.

Broodzilla · 08/06/2009 11:33

Laugs Fingers and toes crossed for you over here, and may I join the people who are impressed by you not being tempted by google!

Becky Sounds like the worry doesn't stop when the beans are out... Hopefully it wasn't a tummy bug, so that you don't have to go through it too.

Koumak Also, in the facebook-era, it seems it doesn't even matter if the same people are attending or not, as I noticed after last summer when I wore the same dress to three different dos with three different lots of people and then found the pictures uploaded on facebook - it looked like I'd been wearing a uniform!

Sleepless Second honeymoon sounds so romantic and blissful!

Tamlin I'd just go to which ever hospital is easier for you, for the scan. As you're really even allowed to change your mind about where you'll deliver when you're in labour I don't see why they should try to bully you!

Right, better get my working hat on.
Hope you're all having a good day!
I've got major ants in the pants as it's finally the week of the scan... roll on Friday! Can't wait to see the little one, make sure everything's fine, and then with a bit of luck we'll find out the sex.
(We've even got the name all figured out, so if it turns out to be a boy after all, we're back to square one!)

Koumak · 08/06/2009 12:01

Re the scan. Do you think it would say in the letter that children are not allowed? I haven?t seen anything to that effect and I do remember there were children around when I went for 12 week scan although obviously not sure what scan their mother was having then. I have been thinking about this a lot. Ds knows I am pregnant and if there was something wrong we would have to tell him later anyway but worried he would be disruptive. He does get shy though so I am thinking he can sit still and behave! Also dh would be there so could leave them outside and ask them to come in later? I really don?t know what to do.

Tamlin · 08/06/2009 12:14

We're going to be having DH outside with DS unless I can rustle up a sitter from thin air. It's not great for DH, though.

Have just checked the note from the hospital again, and noticed that the midwife has spelt 'deliver' as 'diliver'. Christ. Am imbued with confidence.

Laugs · 08/06/2009 12:44

Hi all,

Thanks for the supportive messages. Broodzilla don't be impressed by me! I gave DH Permission To Google last night and report back an unhysterical account of his findings! I've just rung the hospital as can't stand the waiting, but they are calling back.

Koumak DD had to come to my 12 week scan as we made a mad dash there straight from A&E. It was not ideal. She was quite a big distraction, although she's much younger than your DS (2.5) so he might be better at sitting still. The hospital didn't seem to have any problem with it though. I'm sure they'd tell you if siblings weren't allowed.

Broodzilla · 08/06/2009 13:00

Koumak Can you call the anti-natal clinic and ask? Just in case different hospitals have different policies. I, too, remember seeing mums with children at the 12 week scan. I know my friend in East Anglia took her DD in with her (couldn't get a sitter and DH was at work).
But just to be safe, maybe give them a ring and ask, then you don't have to worry about it.

Tamlin · 08/06/2009 13:03

I think that the dating scan usually takes less time and concentration than the anomaly - my hospital doesn't mind kids at the dating, but does prefer them not to attend the anomaly.

Laugs · 08/06/2009 13:19

Just heard back from the hospital. They have detected antibodies and there's a concern they are developing, but they've had to send my blood off to be tested to find out what the antibodies are and what, if anything, needs to be done. I won't find out for a week! I'm sure the midwife said yesterday that if the antibodies develop you can't do anything about it. They aren't giving me any more anti D.
Now I have to wait a whole week - agh! I am impatient at the best of times It's also DH's birthday on Thursday and he has a big exam next Monday, so not great timing - but when is it ever?

DD is very into Feelings at the moment, so the second I got off the ohone she said to me "How do you feel, Mummy?" and I had to say "I feel happy". I don't, but it probably makes me feel better pretending that I do.

helips · 08/06/2009 13:31

forgot to welcome mumsiebumsie sorry and welcome!

koumak the maternity dress I have ordered is the silk empire style dress in teal, would link if I knew how! Hopefully it will fit alright as I am running out of options! As for your two weddings, can you buy 1 dress but accessorize differently for each one? You can pick up some really nice and not too expensive facinators at Debenhams and maybe get a wrap and shoes to co-ordinate, I love accessorizing!

sleeplessinthecity whereabouts did you go for your break? Glad you had a good time, think I will arrange a few nights away before this one is born, it's due on our wedding anniversary so would be nice to celebrate before then and go away somewhere.

brrodzilla good luck with your scan, what day is it again?

laugs hope the hospital get back to you soon and put your mind at rest.

Well, thats me caught up finally! Hope everyone has a good day, the sun has finally come out so will take ds out once he has woken from his nap. And on that note I think I'll have a nap too!

helips · 08/06/2009 13:34

Sorry, cross post laugs what a nightmare that you have to wait a week, hope everything is ok. Your dd sounds very sweet asking how you feel, bless her!

PavlovtheCat · 08/06/2009 14:23

{angry] I have just been sent home from work. Due to continuous vomiting. AAARGH, and with the medication too. Not only that, but its really really acidic, and now my throat is killing me . However my muscles also ache and I think I might be coming down with something . God I hope not, DHs birthday this week, meant to be camping at weekend with lots of friends to celebrate .

Laugs I really hope they are able to tell you what is going on asap, the waiting is horrible for you. Hugs and positive vibes being sent to you. Also, its my DHs birthday on thursday too!

Welcome mumsiebumsie You will definitely get lots of support in this thread as a first time mum, there are lots of first timers here, and lots who have been there before. We shall hold your hand!

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/06/2009 14:33

Laugs big hug to you going through this. I hope things turn out ok and so sorry you've got to wait a week with all else that is going on in your life as well. What a sweet DD you have

Pavlov poor you Perhaps being run down and coming down with something is making the MS suddenly come back? I hope you feel better for your DH's birthday.

Broodzilla the worrying goes on for ever according to my mum, even when they are in their 30s, 40s and beyond!!!!

Trikken · 08/06/2009 15:40

pavlov have you tried Rennies after you've been sick/feel sick? I find they make it less acidic and therefore not feel as sick.

Broodzilla · 08/06/2009 15:57

Oooh, I forgot to welcome mumsiebumsie too!
(Although, I'm so new here I really shouldn't be allowed on the welcoming committee until I know my way around! )

helips my scan is on Friday.

laugs appalling that you've got to wait for a week! I don't know much about the Anti D (I should really, being 0- myself...) but I always thought even if there WAS antibodies, it would possibly be harmful to subsequent pregnancies/babies but not the current one? Is that not true? (What I'm trying to say is, that from what I've understood, you wouldn't need to be worried for the baby. I may be wrong, of course.)

Pavlov sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly! Have they ruled out an infection of any sort? How cruel that it's back just when you thought you'd got over it!

I've spent way too much time reading the thread on pain relief (and then getting bored with the arguments and reading up on the pros and cons elsewhere... gosh, there is SO much to take in...) I really need to concentrate on work instead!

mumsiebumsie · 08/06/2009 16:06

Feel like a part of the family already! Thanks guys.

mumsiebumsie · 08/06/2009 16:18

Sleeplessinthecity thank you for the recommendation regarding taking VitB6 for my headaches. Can I be dumb for a second? Do you mean taking the vitamin or drinking the juice? As I think there's a drink called VitB6? Just want to be sure. Thank you!

katster37 · 08/06/2009 16:57

Pavlov my morning sickness came back big time when I got this chest infection so maybe you are coming down with something?

Laugs I can't believe you have to wait for a week. Have they dscussed what the antibodies mean with you? They can't just leave you to worry for a whole week.

I am feeling really anxious today, like something could be wrong and I not know about it. Seems so long 'til my next scan - it's not for over 5 weeks!!!

BBL how is DS2?

Laugs · 08/06/2009 17:32

broodzilla/ katster the midwife I spoke to this morning said "There's nothing for you to worry about at the moment" I said, "I thought antibodies were something to worry about" and she said "Well yes, they could be, but there's no point in worrying until we get the results back" I know she was trying to be nice.

So obviously I succombed to google. I think the concern is Rhesus disease

Luckily I have my 16 week appointment with my midwife tomorrow, so hopefully she'll be able to tell me more about the risk etc.

katster37 · 08/06/2009 17:59

Laugs I am sure that even if it is `rhesus disease, they are atleast aware of it and can treat it. It says baby may be born a bit earlier but you'd be closely monitored. And that's if it IS that, AND if it is severe enough to need treatment. I know it is impossible, but try not to worry.

PavlovtheCat · 08/06/2009 18:00

laugs . I am sure i read also read somewhere that while those risks are there, the risks of anything serious becoming true even with rhesus disease present, is rare. I know that does not help, especiallly when you know so little at this stage, but if I can find what I read I will post it, maybe a small bit of comfort in this worrying time.

katster & broodzilla - well to be honest I have not felt well for a while. So I would not be surprised if there was an infection of some sort. But it appears the midwife and the gp are suffering from some kind of '2nd child apathy', I mean they were not even bothered that I have had sugar in my urine. Its all got me down to be honest, as I know my body, I know what feeling normal is, and what feeling normal in pregnancy is, and this is not it. I was quite sick with DD all the way through my pregnancy and while it was harsh, I did not feel unwell all the time. Oh well, at least I am keeping my weight down, always a bright side eh?

PavlovtheCat · 08/06/2009 18:02

trikken - i have this enormous bottle of Gaviscon given to me by my GP on prescription to help with the acid sickness. I took an big swig after each sickness. The first one did not really help much, as I was sick again a bit later and the acid was worse. But the second time I took it, I have not been sick since, and managed to eat half a ham sarnie (promptly followed by a nap!)

katster37 · 08/06/2009 18:06

Pavlov that is disgraceful. I am also finding GPs to be thoroughly unhelpful... Mine wouldn't even take my blood pressure! Can you be signed off work so you are not sent home again?
I made it to work today, despite ridiculous coughing/sneezing madness. Managed to leave quite early though which is a blessing.
Sleepless want to know all about your second honeymoon - how lovely! Where did you go? That's really sweet.
Broodzilla Is it your 20 week scan already??? Wow, I am so jealous. I have to wait until I am 22 weeks, which isn't for 5 weeks and 2 days!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/06/2009 18:11

Pavlov I really hate that second child apathy - just because we've done it before doesn't make us experts or easier second time around!!! Grrrr on your behalf. As you say you know your body better than they do.

Katster thanks for asking after DS2 - he's much better today and eating sausage stir fry with gusto as I type. Perhaps it was just a one-off but he's normally so healthy in that department (sorry if TMI!). I just dread tummy bugs - they are the worst thing in the world and should be banned by law or something! If I were prime minister...
