Blue - how do you feel about floating? My friend job shares as she does 3 days a week. I have been thinking about that envelope more and more. Wonder if we will give into temptation

Welcome to new ladies

Sneeple - I'm in South Croydon. Your baby is very long too

Neddie · 22/05/2009 18:21

Hi all
Welcome new ladies. I have had another furry baby yesterday (see profile pics)another colt! What's going on ? I am running out of boy names that begin with an L (we breed through alphabet-long story). He was the only one born indoors as it kept raining and mummy is an oldie like me. Only 2 more to go!
I am now really in pain from backache due to humungousness of weight -next scan is on Thursday 24 weeks.

blue76 · 22/05/2009 19:01

Neddie - Logan [think Wolverine/Hugh Jackman...phwoar]

Ladylush - you better let us know WHEN you open that envelope

My boss said he doesn't do job sharing, as it's too disruptive for statemented pupils. I'm going to miss the relationship I have with the kids. They're already asking me when I'm coming back. I'm wanting to go into mentoring eventually so I don't really mind floating.
I found out today they're going to be asking TA's [there's 57 in our school] to apply for 'cover supervisor' posts, of which there'll be 3. They're getting rid of the supply teachers - opting to pay TA's to cover lessons and paying them NVQ level 3 wages instead. Cheeky sods! There's already TA's out there who are up their own arses - I just hope they choose those who won't let the authority go to their heads.

blue - that is really cheeky The TA in my son's class already does an awful lot, so it seems most unfair to expect more of them. I can see what you mean re. some TAs - I'm sure my friend will have an opinion on that Glad the floating will work out well for you. Can see how job share is more difficult when working with children who have special needs.

Neddie - congrats on your new furry baby How do you go about choosing a horse's name?

Neddie · 23/05/2009 09:42

ladylush It's actually quite simple for me because I breed Spanish horses and you go through the alphabet. This year we are on L my stud name is Star of the Sea -all boys are seafaring things and all the girls are to do with the stars etc. So far we have had Lanchero- (a launch boat) Laguna- (a lagoon)and Langostino (a mega prawn/lobster !-quite apt as his daddy is a Camaron-meaning shrimp).
If only it were that easy for children.

ladylush · 23/05/2009 09:47

Neddie - Oh I see. Shows how much I know about horses. I would like to learn to ride. There are quite a few stables near where I live and I was going to have some lessons but then fell pregnant. Maybe after I have the baby and lose the weight - feel sorry for the horse otherwise

PeppermintCream · 23/05/2009 10:58

Thank you for the welcomes.
Minshu - I'm thinking about mine as a pink one as well, but still have this nagging doubt...
Twinklegreen- spooky. I was late with my other two, 13 days and 10 days, but after two dramatic, emergency sections, an elective section has been recommended.

I've suddenly started to get a lot more movement, which is really exciting.

AprilMeadow · 23/05/2009 19:51

I'm home YAY!!!

Welcome to the newbies, congrats on the pink & blue scan results.

Have dug out my scan notes and the head circ at 20wks was 179mm (95th centile). Abdominal circ was 150mm (95th centile) and femur length was 30mm (50th centile). Am hoping that the head and tummy slow down a bit as i dont fancy pushing a large head out thank you very much

She has been really active the last few weeks and dh couldnt believe how strong her kicks/punches/squirms have become. Managed to only gain 4lbs whilst away, not bad when the choice at disney for 3wks was burgers/hotdogs and other fast food.

Will be the magic 24wks on Monday and so far have gained a total of 12lbs. Got a few lovely bits and bobs for baby whilst away and can now focus on car seat and buggy.

Am also suffering with insomnia and it is driving me mad, am hoping that sleeping in my own bed might help.

Off to catch up on some tv before having an early night. have only had 3 hours sleep in 48hrs due to travelling.

peachygirl · 23/05/2009 21:25

Sneeple I have Mr Ward written down in my diary for the consultant. I saw a woman last time for the elective.

I was thinking of talking to the midwife about her experience of VBACs as she does shifts at Mayday.

I'm in Purley But strangley enough we used to live in Selhurst (well, borders fo Thornton Heath)

AprilMeadow · 23/05/2009 23:03

Peachy, A friend of mine over on the May07 PN board talked her dsis into going for a VBAC and she recently (in the last day or so) managed it... If it is something that you really want to try then dont let them put you off - well unless there is an actual medical reason not to

Snowfalls108 · 24/05/2009 16:32

24 weeks today! Yipee.
And I am huge - my bump is massive, everyone seems very suprised that I'm not due sooner.
Very domestic weekend, dh is currently painting the cot. We've gone for a pale green colour.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine

Minshu · 24/05/2009 17:35

It's glorious here, although a bit of a sea breeze on the beach itself. Managed to get burnt on my neck

Welcome back April - I take it you had a fabulous time? Thanks for bringing some good weather back with you!!

I'm feeling massive, at 22+5. Two guys at work who have young kids have recently told me that I'm huge for the stage I'm at. The first one I laughed off, but the second one has really knocked my confidence (his wife had twins). Dreading going back to work on Tuesday and feel like hiding away from the world. DP is being very sweet, but can't work miracles with my battered self-esteem. I don't know what to wear - some flouncy clothes that will be fine in a few weeks make me look even bigger now, but the more figure-hugging ones are, well, figure-hugging, which I didn't mind at all until a couple of days ago.

DP hasn't managed to feel any movement yet. It's still too erratic - two kicks in one place, then nothing for a while, so no luck yet.

peachygirl · 24/05/2009 18:56

aprilmeadow I'm still a bit so so about it all.

My last elective was great I had good recovery and was up and about quickly. I have reservations about both ATM.
With an elective it's the recovery now DD is on the scene which is slighly worrying twinned with the fact that DH does not drive the car so we would be carless for 6weeks.

With a Vbac (if successful)I would be home earlier and be back in the car if necessary. I could pick up DD and generally be more active... But I have no idea of what will happen and could potentially face a very medically managed birth. I've already been told continual foetal monitoring so limited movement and no birthing pool, and it's this sort of thing I want to talk to the midwife about.

Apparently hospitals will say they will try you out, or rather try your scar out in case of rupture which happens in a very small amount of cases .. and if you are slow to progress then they will suggest a section anyway ( I just need to know more about what usually happens at my local hospital) so it's these ins and outs which I'm thinking about at the moment.
I am going on a birth refresher class in July so will be able to ask some of these questions then.

blah blah blah

AprilMeadow · 24/05/2009 21:17

Minshu, dont worry about those meanies. I have been told i am huge but then i always get told that even at about 7wks. I think it really depends on how you carry the weight. Mine is ALL out front, i look like i have a ball up my top! Whereas if you carry all over then you dont look as big iyswim.

How exciting Snowfalls , its another one of those 'oh my this is really happening' moments that makes it all seem more real.

Holiday was fab thanks, although perhaps too long at 3wks. The heat was unbearable at times at not just because i am pg. So nice to be home and sleep in my own bed though.

I have been desperate to buy baby bits and just bit the bullet today. Very excited as i have just bought the red/black P&T Vibe doubles buggy with cocoon and the Maxi-Cosi car seat. Mothercare had 10% off on orders over £100 and free delivery so they actually worked out the cheapest despite starting out as the more expensive Have decided that i want this cot and chest of drawers for the nursery. Decided on a cot this time as E will probably have outgrown her bed and be ready for a regular single bed by the time Lucy is done with the cot. Couldnt believe the price difference between cots and cotbeds, was nearly £200 . Have decided on this bedding set for the nursery as well. Now means i can locate curtains and other bits to finish it all off. The walls are magnolia and i didnt really want 2 pink bedrooms Will get the furniture nearer the time as i still need use of the room as a guest room until beginning of August.

Thought L was trying to break free last night, she was squirming and kicking/punching for about an hour and it was starting to get uncomfortable. I could see her making shapes on my tummy and i guess sticking her bum/back out. I will be the magic 24 weeks tomorrow and cant believe how quickly it seems to have gone, well since the sickness died off.

AprilMeadow · 24/05/2009 21:22

Peachy, that is a lot to think about. I'm sure you once you are armed with all that info that it will be an easier decision to make.

I am seriously worried this time round! DS was 6days late and i expected him to be late with him being my first. When pg with dd1 i expected to go over as well and had in my mind that she would also be late so had the shock of our lives when she appeared nearly 4 weeks early. This time i have no idea. I am swinging between two thoughts at the moment 1) she will be early - but i hope to be prepared for it or 2) i will go 10 days over, get induced and then end up with an emergency CS. The complete extremes i know but i am actually worried. Nothing i can do as its out of my hands so will be working on putting those thoughts in a locked cupboard.

Minshu · 24/05/2009 22:44

Thanks, AprilMeadow. I've put on a bit of "miscellaneous" weight, but most is on my bump and bust (which was already a reasonable size). Really surprised at how down a few thoughtless comments have left me. I need to pull myself together. Feel pre-menstrual hypersensitivity, to be honest, so no idea when it will lift

We've done practically nothing to prepare for the baby's arrival, but DP did demolish the cupboard at the top of the stairs yesterday. Although that doesn't sound particularly productive it's all part of the master plan, because: a) he enjoys pulling things apart and b) he's going to replace it with a bigger, more useful cupboard to house the stuff that's currently in the room that will be the baby's. I'm lucky in that he's very good at this kind of thing. He replaced a built-in cupboard in the dining room last year and it looks like one of the made to measure jobs advertised in magazines.

And my contribution? I've knitted a teddy bear and one bootie (didn't quite manage to get round to doing the second one this evening).

Just had a look at the furry baby, pics, Neddie. Bless - you must be very proud (and knackered)... Have to admit to being quite nervous of horses, preferring to admire from afar.

AprilMeadow · 24/05/2009 22:55

Minshu, we are pregnant and therefore allowed to put on 'misc' weight! People like to say mean things thinking they are being funny but dont realise how insensitive they are being. I would reply back with an 'i'm pg what's your excuse....'

audreyraines · 25/05/2009 06:57

it's so infuriating isn't it...

my neighbour said to me yesterday while glancing at my bump "not long to go now".

Err, if you call 15 weeks 'not long', then yearh fine

mummyhill · 25/05/2009 07:55

Standard answer to unkind comments on the size of my bump is yes I know it's a rhinosocow and then I walk off!

audreyraines · 25/05/2009 11:36

thing is i don't think they really mean it badly, but it just comes out that way. of course my bump looks big compared to a non-pregnant person!

Minshu · 25/05/2009 18:26

You're right, Audrey - I'm sure they don't mean anything by it. In fact the guy that upset me later explained to my DP that it's a compliment in the Asian culture (which he's from), but he was born and brought up in Brum, so should know better!! Anyway, he has a big nose. Very childish, and I wouldn't normally say anything like that, as mine isn't exactly petite, but...

Feeling less pathetic today, anyway, and looking forward to a big roast dinner (smells good, less than an hour to go).

Hope everyone's had a good bank holiday weekend and enjoyed the sunshine.

ladylush · 26/05/2009 12:52

Minshu - don't worry about those silly comments. I think people are just quite fascinated by baby bumps - more so men ime. Commenting on the size gives them an excuse to say something iyswim. The men in my office are intrigued as well. One of them said "L - you're really looking pregnant now aren't you!" Er........ Then he said how much he likes seeing pregnant women - had to quickly say he didn't mean that in a pervy way Another male colleague said he thinks pregnant women look very attractive.

We went to Camber Sands (East Sussex coast) for 2 nights. Had a lovely time Hope everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

LizLemon · 26/05/2009 14:51

Hello all. We've been in the lake district for the weekend, which was gorgeous. Knew we were back in London when the train got held up just outside Euston for ages because of a nutter running around on the tracks.

Minshu - at a party last week I was told I looked both big and small for five months. Mostly I think people do say it just to have something to say. I've noticed that women tend to say something like 'you do look pregnant now' or 'you look well' whereas men seem to like the fact of size. (Mind you the person who told me I looked big was a very old friend of mine, but I paid her no heed because she put on four stone when she was pregnant last time.)

Likewise we've done virtually nothing to prepare for this baby, aside from make a good long list of things we should be doing. I like lists

daffodilli · 26/05/2009 20:11

Got my internet back! Wish I could go online in work, could say that talking about pregnancy is medically related I suppose!

Have only skim read so far, nice to hear everyone has had some lovely hols (long or short)! Have not really done much here, still really tired and have now got a lovely chesty cough which is grim...wonder which patient gave it to me..?
Did sit on a chair saturday and sunday and directed DH around the garden as it was long overdue for a tidy!!,and to be fair he did it with minimal moaning! our back lawn is big, boggy, uneven and the local cats (of which there seem to be hundreds) tend to use it as a toilet..!

Am a bit fed up here with bump comments also,I know no one means anything nasty but if some one else says I dont look pregnant I wont be responsible for the outcome! What I want to know is what they think the bump represents exactly?! As I have a tall skinny (shape free!!) figure normally,I never have a stomach anyway and I feel that my bump is really obvious. It would be nice if people just kept comments to 'you look nice/blooming' etc etc.Safe comments!

Anyone eating/drinking things they shouldn't be? Have developed a craving for coffee of all things, but it has to be caffeinated (sp) so am just having 1/2 a tsp at a time, and only 2 cups a day!!
Have also started getting what I guess are braxton hicks, where my bump goes really tight for a few seconds, its uncomfy but not painful and totally freaked me out until I read tonight that around this time they can start, anyone else got these??

Sorry long 'me' post!

pebblebeach · 26/05/2009 20:23

Lots of catching up - lovely scan and hol news!

I just wanted to say, Daffodilli, that I think I'm getting BH contractions too - glad it's "normal" at this stage as I hadn't got round to actually looking it up, and last time I didn't recognise them for what they were... although what exactly I thought my belly was doing is a bit beyond me now
