Hi Ladies hoping for some help today, I have just been invited on a hen do (which i really want to go on) and everyone is dressing like a pirate. What on earth am I going to do hehe. I very much doubt our local fancy dress shop is going to have a maternity pirates costume in hehe. Please help me, all solutions are welcome I dont really mind how much it costs either as DH is going on the very expensive over night stag do so has said if i find something he will pay for it.

ladylush · 17/05/2009 15:15

Could you not go for a simple black outfit (trousers and top) with accessories (bandana, eye patch, sword/knife thingy)?
Pirate costume is an unusual hen theme isn't it

Some of the women's pirate costume stuff is a bit skimpy - but that one looks ok! Quite expensive though

blue76 · 17/05/2009 15:45

OR you could go and find a cheap frilly ball gown etc and go as a pirate's wench?? [Nowt meant by that}! Think Keira Knightly in Pirate's of the Caribbean

My god, Ive got far too much time on my hands at the mo!

OP posts:
Neddie · 17/05/2009 17:58

Ha ha ha Blue Keira Knightly and pregnant pirate wench (she could swallow a grape and she'd look pregnant).... I've got to see the result. littlecheese pictures please!

I have just been out in the rain to get in one of my older mares and bring her in to the maternity suite. I couldn't let her foal outside it's just too cold and wet for her. Hope she has it in the morning when I am there- I will call in later tonight to check on her but I can't stay up all night my babies are more important. More pics if it comes out OK.

Minshu · 17/05/2009 20:49

Would the suggestion of going as a pirate's parrot be totally unhelpful, littlecheese?

I'll be quiet now

LittleCheese · 17/05/2009 20:53

Ladylush I also think pirate's is an odd theme but it could be worse, dont think i'd fancy being a pregnant playboy bunny hehe

blue that costume is great but as you say a little expensive

found this one www.joke.co.uk/fancy_dress/adult_pirate_queen_maternity_costume~90091.html

on the same site, cant beleiev they actually make pirate fancy dress hehe

its a more reasonable price but says they only do it in dress size 10-12 so not sure it will work

Neddie I will def post some pics after the do. I also need to pop some bump pics on too

LittleCheese · 17/05/2009 21:08

oops here we go

LittleCheese · 17/05/2009 21:10

must have crossed posts minshu although I like your idea better than dh's frien who suggested captain pugwash

peachygirl · 17/05/2009 21:29

trixievix to answer your question no you don't have to be a member to go to the sales. Members do get let in earlier though.

little cheese I think I would roll up your maternity jeans and wear boots, and then go for thw accessories If you are in South London I can lend you a large skull and crossbones flag.

LittleCheese · 17/05/2009 22:44

peachy

thanks for the offer i am unfortunately in yorkshire though will have a look for accessories see what i can find

blinder · 18/05/2009 14:24

Hello all,

I havent posted for months, but as soon as I find you, I discover you are discussing pirate outfits .

Good to see that we all have our pregnancy priorities straight!

I suggest mixing it up with this: www.partydomain.co.uk/d-commerce/product1389.html

This pregnancy passing well. Anyone here doing hypnobirthing?

blinder · 18/05/2009 14:25

hmm - www.partydomain.co.uk/d-commerce/product1389.html is better link I hope!

LizLemon · 18/05/2009 15:27

Hmm. White blousy tunic fastened under bump by wide belt, black trousers, little black boots, eye patch, very large gold hoop earrings, bandana, and cutlass. That could do it.

Apparently there's a site dedicated to this sort of thing www.fancydresspirate.co.uk/

You know we're going to want a picture don't you LittleCheese?

All well here, aside from some horrible nesting thing that's made me clean the house today, far too vigourously. Must turn my attention back to pirates outfits...

audreyraines · 18/05/2009 15:53

Liz I'm starting to go into clear out house mode too. i was meant to rest all saturday, but spring cleaned our bedroom

blue76 · 18/05/2009 15:56

Lol at captain pugwash - I did think of that one but thought I was taking things a little too far

Anyone else with awkwardly-lying babies? This little one's had me doubled over, unable to walk at times - keeps shifting into the strangest positions

39 get-ups and counting til maternity leave starts!

mummyhill · 18/05/2009 16:14

Spent a rather worried couple of hours up at hospital after tripping over ds's feet this morning and landing squarely on my bump.

Everything is ok I just feel a bit battered! Will still be popping in to see my nan later though as she is very poorly and looking forward to seeing me.

Intend to put my feet up in the meantime though!

BabyLady · 18/05/2009 17:45

Poor you Mummyhill - take it easy.

Know what you mean about count down to Maternity leave - 11 weeks to go at work and counting. There is a lady at my work who is about six weeks ahead of me and she only has 6 weeks of work left....very jealour

Interested about the femur length etc and head circumference. Must check my notes when I get home and see. I did ask the scan lady about the size of my head seeing as my DH has a rather large head, as do I (eek!) but she said it was right in the middle for size (at the moment!!!).

Lol at the nesting, I got a touch of that this weekend too but held off washing all the baby gears and just settled for buying some eco laundry liquid and washing a new hooded towel which was fluffing everywhere!!

nitnat84 · 18/05/2009 18:16

Hello All,
At how many weeks are you guys taking Maternity leave? Had my checkup today and everything seems fine
Although, think I may be getting a varicose vein on the back of my leg My legs really ache by the end of the day. Anyone else having achey legs?

bigbang · 18/05/2009 18:17

Hey all!

Scan went well this morning, though I am joining the low lying placenta club. It was almost missed, she offered me an internal scan if I wanted it, very nearly said no as dp needed to get to work. Decided I might as well go for it and very glad I did, she realised my cervix was higher than she thought and so placenta wasn't high after all and was very close to cervix. Feeling a bit pants as that will mean no homebirth and poss CS if it doesn't move, gah. I'm not sure I will be able to relax till next scan at 35 weeks. She gave me no information what so ever but spoke to the midwives who were quite reassuring, I will have to see a consultant now though apparently.

Found out we are having a girl. I am thrilled, one of each will be lovely. HB was deff a train when we heard it and all 'old wives tales' pointed to a boy too so I guess you never know.

Oh and you now need exact money (£1.50) for scan pictures at Kings if anyone else is going there. You put it in a machine and get a ticket to exchange with the sonographer for pictures. Bit weird!

mummyhill glad you are ok. Must have been scary for you.

I hope everyone is well and that there is a new foal in the world by now

audreyraines · 18/05/2009 18:37

hi bigbang, i'm exactly the same, wanting a homebirth again, so willing the placenta to move up ... hope it works. i think 90% chance it will, so odds are good. i'm such a natural birth proponent it would be quite ironic for me to have to have a c-section at the end of the day. goes to show, some things you just don't have any control over.

i worked up until a week before the birth last time, but it was a fairly undemanding part time job, so I actually liked being there and liked the people i saw every day. ds also came two weeks early, so didn't get as much time with my feet up as i expected.
this time work is just ds, so no maternity leave for me!!

blue, i am constantly getting weird pains and feeling uncomfortable which i think is often due to babies position. she is a real wriggler.

ladylush · 18/05/2009 18:40

mummyhill - glad you are ok.
bigbang - congrats on a pink one

ladylush · 18/05/2009 18:42

I'm planning to stop work end July (annual leave throughout August) then start maternity leave beginning of September. I don't know how much time I'll be taking off though it will be 6 months at least.

blinder · 18/05/2009 18:49

Six weeks to go for me - but then I have a major dissertation to write before the birth .

My DP has a huuuge head babylady, so I'm interested in head size too. I was told at the scan that the baby's head is a bit longer but also narrower than normal, which is just like DP. Trying not to think about it!

Glad you are ok mummyhill. Amniotic fluid is wonderful stuff, but must have been scary .
