Yay! My £190 Hip grant has been paid into my account. I'm usiing a bit for a cot mattress and now I'm off shopping!

FairySparkles · 11/06/2009 14:11

Oh dear - everyone seems to be feeling pretty shitty at the moment! My tiredness was actually ok until dd decided that 5.30 is a reasonable time to get up in the morning!! She's been doing it for the last few days and boy am I pooped now!! Really struggling in work today and even finished early yesterday - you guys on your 1st pg are sooooo lucky being able to catch up on sleep in the day or have a lie in at the weekends- MAKE THE MOST OF IT!! I haven't slept past 7am in 17months - Aaaaarggghh!!

Thanks Stayfrosty - so it is possible to have same pregnancies but different flavour babies!! - I'm not bothered either way but i'm just really convinced its a boy! - I feel really bad for you not being able to have a home birth! - Is a birthing centre out of the question too?? At least they are a happy medium!

Neddie - very jealous of your moving to spain idea!! I'm trying just to move closer to my mum but can't sell the bloomin house!!!

Had my 1st lot of braxton hicks today - don't remember them this early on last time?? (25 weeks now) Anyone else getting them??

TigerFeet · 11/06/2009 14:35

FairySparkles I've been getting Braxton Hicks for a while now (26+5), it's definitely earlier than last time round. They aren't painful as such, more uncomfortable really, my bump goes very hard and tight.

I sent off the form for the HIP grant yesterday, so I'll be keeping an eye on my bank account

audreyraines · 11/06/2009 14:43

oh thank god it's not just me feeling rotten. i was imagining every one else having these fabled 'surges' of energy whilst i was trying not to fall asleep every day of the week. it also doesn't seem to help that i become a bit of an insomniac at around 4am a lot of mornings and end up just watching bad tv to pass the time. 13 weeks to go and counting! (and then i;ll really experience sleep deprivation again )

TigerFeet · 11/06/2009 14:56

I found that once dd was born I slept a lot better than I did before, mainly because I could get comfortable again. I remember having this amazing moment of realisation that I could sleep on my stomach again it was like winning the lottery!

I wake up for a wee most nights at around 1.30 and again at around 4. Some nights I can get back to sleep and others I can't - I may have to log onto MN and see who's around

audreyraines · 11/06/2009 15:12

lucky you, depends on luck of the draw child you get i guess - i'm hoping for a sleeper this time!

TigerFeet · 11/06/2009 15:26

well there was one sleep deprived panic where I thought she was having difficulty breathing (she was making funny snuffly noises) so I rang NHS direct in floods of tears - turned out she was snoring so I had my moments...

mumtobe23 · 11/06/2009 15:27

Hello ladies, i have agree with the feeling tiredness, I felt it for the first 3 months then it went but I can feel it?s starting to creep back in again. I get to 3pm and I'm done for the day even though I still have 2.5 hours to work! I dunno how you guy's with LO's do it!

Just got back from my 28 week scan, a little worried to hear baby is small for dates and her head circumference is small so I've been booked in for yet another scan (MY 5TH) this time with the consultant. Anyone else told there baby was small but sorted its self out, i can't helpbut worry somethings wrong

TigerFeet · 11/06/2009 15:35

Poor you Mumtobe, that must be very worrying. Did they say how much below the expected size your baby is? Sometimes I think that the medical profession get too hung up on making sure that everyone and everything is bang on average, all the while forgetting that a baby could be 6lb or 10lb at birth and be perfectly healthy. I'll have had 5 scans by the time this baby is born due to a high triple test result. Just try and enjoy the extra glimpses of your baby! I hope all goes well for you.

audreyraines · 11/06/2009 15:40

goodness mumtobe, must be worrying, but like tiger said, i'm sure it's quite normal for your little bean, sometimes i think all this measuring and scanning is not good for our mental health!

mumtobe23 · 11/06/2009 16:03

Thank you, thats what i was thinking, all these scans some times cause more worry then anything!
Still like you say tirgerfeet i'll get to see her again which is good I suppose. Oh forgot to mention we got a very clear profile image of her and she definatley has the profile of my boyfriend, with the same shape nose and lips! Which only adds to my theory that most 1st babies tend to look like there dads...have those of you with LO's found this?

FairySparkles · 11/06/2009 16:14

Tigerfeet - that's so funny she was snoring, that really made me chuckle! Bless you tho - it is so worrying when they're new!

Mum2be - I've read on one of the website's that from 24 weeks onwards baby's vary so much, that it's very hard to give acurate averages - hence such varying birth weights - Like the others said - proffessionals have to be extra cautious because it's their job but it makes us very worried very quickly eh?!
My dd was born quite big (because I ate so much chocolate I think) but then turned out to be a very small person with a very small appetite - needless to say the dr's made me shit my pants with worry that she wasn't big enough and she wasn't putting on "the required amount of weight per week" but there really was nothing wrong with her - she's just little!!
look on the bright side - delivering a smaller baby is always preferable for us ladies!!!

Audrey - I'm so sorry your still feeling crap! I remember your sickness hung around for ages like mine too!
I'm hoping for a sleeper this time around too - dd was a feckin nightmare! - mind you - I'm gonna be a lot firmer with this one; no fannying around with extra cuddles 6 times a night to help it sleep - sounds mean but this one will have to figure out how to get to sleep on its own pretty quickly!

FairySparkles · 11/06/2009 16:17

mum2be - we cross posted - yes dd is the image of her dad, and my neice was born 4 weeks ago and also is the spitting image of her father!
Maybe it changes tho??.........

TigerFeet · 11/06/2009 16:25

My dd looked more like me when she was born but by the age of about 3 months she was the image of dh, and she's stayed that way ever since.

audreyraines · 11/06/2009 16:50

i think ds looked a lot like dh when he was first born, but now is a bit of a combo.

Well I am off to have a tour of the birthing centre in a bit. Lets hope I dont freak out in there. Not sure what to expect to be honest.
Mumtobe- my friend is pregnant at the mo and whenshe had her 28 weeks appointment they said that the baby seemed small and sent her for a scan. Turned out the baby was above average. I am sure everything will be fine, fingers crossed for you.
StayFrosty- interesting about babies looking like their fathers. Oh crap- that means my baby will have a huge nose. Hehe.

Neddie · 11/06/2009 18:20

Hi all
Tigerfeet you made me laugh at the snoring!
mumtobe please don't worry- I have a friend who had 4lb babies, all healthy and straight home and they are strapping big farmers! If it's any consolation I had a doctor trample around my belly and tell me I would have a 6lb baby- 4 weeks later out came 8 1/2 lb child.

My first DD looks the spit of DX but the second looks just like my dad (scarily). I have a photo of them together where they have no front teeth (dad has a bridge but took it out) they look like those backwoods people from Deliverance.

Re- the friend who had a miscarriage, just give her time and space, she has to grieve and it takes people a varying time to get over these things. I didn't try for another 3 years after mine and if it is a first pregnancy you do feel like you'll never have children. Ignore her husband he's obviously an arse.

I am afraid to say this but I feel quite good.(Ducks rotten tomatoes)
But I have the restless legs thing and it drives me nuts!

TheTickListQueen · 11/06/2009 18:40

I also had a 28 week growth scan this week (my 5th scan to date). The baby's abdomin was in the 95th centile on the last two scans - supposedly worrying due to the diabetes. I thought it was too early to be concerned but I guess if it continued at that rate....

This scan she is down in the 50th. Talked to a doctor checking the scan and she agreed with me that its likely due to me now being on insulin and the blood sugars being under control. Normally that drastic a drop in size shows a problem but everything looks good and DS was only 6lb 13 even with unmedicated diabetes.

I was all happy, especially after seeing the baby yawn in the scan - so cute. Then had to speak to my mid-wife who is a total worrier and has booked me in for another scan in 2 weeks just to double check its ok. Will try and ignore the fuss and just enjoy looking at the baby.

Mumtobe - a friend of mine had lots of scans cause her baby was measuring small. He packed on weight in the last few weeks and was born a perfectly average size. Hope you get some reassurance.

DS is very much like me except for DH's gorgeous eyes.

restless legs, migraines and backache are driving me insane!

peachygirl · 11/06/2009 20:41

I'm in the constipation gang too, I found a bowl of museli helped (the dorset one is nice)and fruit juice. I have also been known to have a little dose of Dh's lactulose.(only done this twice)
I'm feeling vey bloated today.

I told a child today in school that I had a baby in my tummy so could she stop poking me and she then tied to climb on top of me, I think she thought I said she was like a baby and wanted a cuddle - We were lying on the floor relaxing at the time. I really had to say ... No there really is a baby in there.

This is the same child though who walked up to a stranger in the local garden centre and said 'I want to have a relationship'!

LJ29 · 11/06/2009 21:22

Just in case anyone's interested Boots have got a Mutsy pram/pushchair on their website for half price. I think its reduced to about £120! If I remember rightly you can attach the maxi cosi car seat.

nitnat84 · 11/06/2009 21:24

Well the tour of the birthing centre was an experience. Started to get nervous while walking around. Quite like the idea of going in the water bath maybe to begin with. Not sure about giving birth in one though. As for the 'birth pan', the idea of squatting that low to pass the placenta made me feel sick. There were about 6 couples walking around with us and they were either 26 weeks like me or further along and I had the biggest bump. New I would end up with a whopper baby!!!

nitnat84 · 11/06/2009 21:26

Sorry Knew not new! God, I am losing it.
