Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
daffodilli · 11/06/2009 21:46

Sorry you've had news like that mum2be - I agree that Drs do tend to err on the side of caution, mum was told I was small, but I was 9.10 in the end!

Glad your feeling good Neddie! Spain sounds like a fab idea!

LJ cant believe you've got your HIP already! I cannot get hold of a form at all, so I guess I have to wait until my 28 week scan to MAYBE get the form, and then wait until my 31 week MW appointment for the MW to sign it, by the time I get the cash bubs will be here! Thought it was meant to be a health IN pregnancy grant!!

Tigerfeet - I will be up at the same time as you! I'm up every night without fail at those times, how strange! Not sure I'll be awake enough to log on though!

Had my first episode of leg cramp last night, OMG it bloody hurts, and my leg was still sore this morning and also a bit 'dead' so I was walking like a drunk all morning!

Went to Debenhams today whilst killing time until my next bus, lovely baby stuff atm, fatal...

nitnat84 · 11/06/2009 21:58

Tigerfeet/Daffodilli- I get up at those times as well! Weird! I picked up my HIP form today. So will be posting that tomorrow. Now... what do I spend it on????
Maybe a trip to Debenhams. This baby is going to just be wearing cream at the mo. Keep telling myself to stop buying and wait till if I know its a boy or girl but cant!
I had terrible leg cramps last week. I read it is a lack of calcium so I have started having a yoghurt before bed and they have stopped. Could just be coincidence.
I made the mistake of picking up a really heavy bag this morning and as a result my back has been killing me all day. I will never learn!

daffodilli · 11/06/2009 22:08

LOL! synchronised bladders!!

Minshu · 11/06/2009 22:25

My bladder is pretty much synchronised with you ladies, too

Got my HIP form today, so will try to send that off over the weekend. I asked my midwife about the iron - she reckons that people don't need iron supplements unless the blood test results show that there is a deficiency. She also told me that my breathlessness was "normal" - due to the lungs being pushed out of the way by the heart expanding to cope with all the extra blood early on, then the uterus starts to push them from the other direction. So, it will just get worse. Only three more months..

How old is this little girl, peachy? Sounds a bit of a worry.

Peachy - agree with Minshu, concerned about that little girl.

Mum2be - try not to worry. At least they are monitoring the baby. I do think growth varies a lot and that calculations are not always accurate. I know it's not the same but we were told ds would be 7lb and he was 9lb 3 - which is quite a difference. When he was born he was perfect but not chubby - kind of long and lean (not skinny). His weight was on the 50th percentile and his height on the 99th and it pretty much continued like that. Hope all is ok anyway.

Heartburn is bad today. I'm also waking in the night to go to the toilet. It wasn't a problem in the first trimester but has been ongoing throughout the second. Guess it'll be even worse in the third! Think baby was doing the okey cokey at lunchtime today. I've noticed it's always more active after I've eaten. Maybe it gets a sugar rush

Snowfalls108 · 12/06/2009 10:09

Hi Mum2be,
I had a scan at 22 weeks and my baby was diddy - but then had another one at 26 weeks and it gone up to above average! I've been scheduled in for another scan at 30 weeks (my 7th - this baby is destined to be in front of the camera!) but just because they're keeping an eye on it.

LizLemon · 12/06/2009 13:16

Agree that estimating baby's size is not exact. They told my friend she was having a very big baby but he was only 6lb9. At the very least you get to have another look

ladylush - unfortunately I sympathise. I had no heartburn at all on Tuesday which made its return with vengeance yesterday seem very cruel. Since it starts at 9am some days and makes me want to throw up by 3pm, I'm considering heading to the GP.

ladylush · 12/06/2009 13:27

Liz - I've been trying to avoid gaviscon as the taste is vile. Mine is generally worse in the evening but yesterday was bad all day and I felt like I was going to see my lunch again Hope yours gets better.

mummyhill · 12/06/2009 16:31

Just what is considered ill enough for a sick note when you are pregnant?

Been off all week with migraines and lower back pain. Self certed. Been to see GP this morning and bp is fine. Prescribed paracetamol even though I go cold and clammy and start vomitting when I take it and told me to wear my glasses permanently and to wear sunglasses outside (I wear the sunglasses anyway due to hayfever) My specs are only usually necessary for reading, computing and watching telly. I asked if she would sign me off for a week and was told no you are pregnant not ill.

audreyraines · 12/06/2009 17:57

mummyhill, i would see another doctor.
pregnancy itself is not an illness, but sometimes it can manifest symptoms that ARE illness. at your doctor.
i would definitely say migraines are enough to warrant being off work, especially since they would generally be light/noise sensitive, i can't imagine the work environment to be conducive to recovering from migraines ...

ladylush · 12/06/2009 18:43

mummyhill - your doctor is being harsh and totally lacking in empathy. Is it a group practice? Or could you try getting a letter from the midwife who could then liaise with the doctor so that you get your cert.

TigerFeet · 12/06/2009 18:59

for you mummyhill, what a twunt of a doctor. Can you see someone else? Pregnancy in itself isn't an illness but a lot of the side effects are. If you were having the same symptoms and weren't pregnant I'm sure he'd be more sympathetic. What an arse.

Minshu · 12/06/2009 19:39

Sounds totally unsympathetic, mummyhill. Pregnancy-related or not, if you're not well, you're not well. But, is there a chance that your doc is unwilling to sign you off in case you end up being forced to start your mat leave earlier than you would otherwise want to?

I'm knackered this evening. Just got in from work and DP is already busily doing DIY while I "cook" - which tonight entails bunging ready made food in the oven, so am mainly sitting on my big fat botty. I'm very lucky. DP's not

mummyhill · 12/06/2009 20:32

Mat leave cannot be triggered before the 4th week before the baby is due even if I have been signed off sick according to the direct gov website so I don't think it is that. I wasn't asking to be signed off for 10 weeks I have until that point, just 1 week to try and get on top of the migraines iyswim.

As it is I may go in and see personnel tomorrow and ask if I can move my hols closer than the last 3 weeks in August and start Mat leave straight after taking my hols as I am getting really fed up, uncomfortable and feel rough. Didn't think it would be this hard this time around but with running round after the other two, trying to get everything sorted out ready, the stress of Nan being really ill and about 1000 other things that are going on atm I don't think I will cope with work as well much longer/

nitnat84 · 12/06/2009 20:59

Mummyhill- sorry you have a lot on at the mo. Hope things can work out for the better.

Minshu · 12/06/2009 21:20

Ah - didn't realise that there was a time limit like that, to be honest, mummyhill. Should have checked.

Sorry you are having such a rough time and hope that you can sort out your holiday to your best advantage. I realise that I'm very lucky in that my work place can be flexible over how I use my remaining leave, but a lot of jobs are more rigid.

mummyhill · 13/06/2009 07:25

Thanks everyone.

Slept better last night than I have all week. Head not too bad this morning so I am going to go into work and try to see personnel and see how I manage with today's shift.

SprinkleofStardust · 13/06/2009 09:27

Thanks for all your messages, I can understand how she feels, I've not been through it and feel very lucky. It was more her DH that upset me I think, but as you all have said he's an arse, so I won't let it get to me!

mumtobe - I'm sure that it will be fine, I would be scared to if told that, but others seem to have lots of experience about it, let us know how it goes.

I asked my GP what postition the baby was in on my last visit (26+3) and he had a poke around and said that he wasn't sure but he couldn't feel a head I'm sure he must have one though with all the movement I get

I also forget to get my HiP grant form, is there a time limit? I'm now 27 weeks.

nitnat - hope you enjoy the birthing centre, we don't have anything like that near where we live, which adds to my desire for a HB.

blue76 · 13/06/2009 09:31

mummyhill your GP sounds like an arse [sorry]. I started a foundation degree last Sept...needless to say, it's been really difficult to cope with working 30 hrs a week and 20 hrs of study. I fell behind when DP broke his hand and I was having to do more [including bathing him]. I had a phone consultation with GP and she is going to write a letter to uni for me. I told her that they don't accept normal pg as extenuating circumstances - she said not to worry as mine's not been straightforward [bleeding til 14 wks, SPD etc]. I'm intercalating til next yr now.
Plenty of pg women get signed off due to poor health! I hope you're okay.

RE 'small babies' hahahaha. I was told DD1 would be a tiny baby - they reckoned 4lbs. They had me worried sick. She was 7lbs 4ozs. [Looks like her Dad]
When pg with DD2, I was convinced [around 27 wks] that I was leaking. I went for a scan, where it showed she had a 'distended stomach', amniotic levels were low and my bump had gone smaller. Then the consultant did an internal exam and told me I was leaking URINE Anyhoo, when she was born, there was nowt wrong with her tummy.
At the age of 18 months, she was on the 5th centile for her height and the 75th for her weight. Bless her, she's a dot [thankfully not a biffa tho]. There's a pic of her on my profile - nowt wrong with her now!
Suppose consultants & co have to be careful. Bloody worrying when they tell you there may be problems tho! If you think they're bad....just wait til you experience health visitors [if you haven't already]! Bloody hell, now there's an experience. There were plenty of times when I came away from those appts in a heck of a state. Here's to hoping I won't have the condescending bitch that I had 10 yrs ago.

Sorry about the 'me' post - just thought some people may like to hear of others' past experiences.

Sorry mummyhill, I'd somehow managed to miss your posts, for someone who considers themself to be computer literate I really seem to struggle on here

Really hope you can sort it all out mummyhill, sleep seems to be what you need so work is not going to help you get that! Plus with all the other things going on in your life I can't believe your doctor's attitude

You may be pregnant and not 'ill' but if you are not feeling well then you need to take care, for the baby as well as you. At least you seem to have an alternative plan, good luck with it and I hope you start to feel better.

FairySparkles · 13/06/2009 10:53

Oh Mummyhill - can't believe what your doctor said! You shouldn't have to use up your annual leave just cos you can't get sick time - that's very mean! You should defo see another doctor!

Not sure if everyone's aware so thought I'd mention while on the subject of 'sick time': your employer can't use any pregnancy related sick time against you towards a disaplinary - my employer for example won't let you apply for promotion's and rewards and stuff if your sickness is above 40%, so any time off work I have that is pregnancy related is not allowed to go towards the 40%
Its a government thing not just my company!

Well I did WAY too much yesterday and I'm paying for it today - trying to catch up with all the house work and hoovering I've pulled the muscles in my groin and the bottom of my bump, and done my back in! Joy - I can bearly walk today - needless to say I informed dp of his new duties around the house this morning cos I ain't doing it anymore!

nitnat84 · 13/06/2009 20:01

HI everyone.
Hope you are all having a gd weekend. So I weighed myself this morning 26 weeks and 5 days and have put on 21 Ibs (1 1/2 stone) ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Is this ok? or too much? (as I eat another slice of pizza!)

peachygirl · 14/06/2009 07:56

Please don't worry about the little girl I teach, it's all part of the madness that is working with children with autism. She is 8 and spends most of the day quoting DVDs Videos and TV programmes, singing and clapping her hands. I am very strict with her and say if she is talking to me she must talk properly, not talk from television.

We are very aware of this sort of stuff at work and appropriate and innapropriate talking and touching (hugging strangers etc) and do discourage them, it is all part of our PSHE work.

Sorry to hear about all the woes with Gp, for whats it's worth my friend was signed off before her mat leave started due to severe SPD. She had an extra 4 weeks.

blue76 · 14/06/2009 09:06

Aww peachygirl, I work with a 13 yr old autistic boy (he has aspergers syndrome). He is totally obsessed with computer games and talks about them constantly. I worked at the primary school he was at [though not with him] and moved to yr 7 with them. He has made amazing progress [doesn't try to hug adults anymore etc]. He does like to stroke my hair though! I love his quirky little ways and often has the rest of the class in hysterics. I'm going to miss them so much when I leave. I've been told that I won't be working with him when I go back as he needs full time support [sobs]

Lovely weather here at the mo! I hope everyone's enjoying it and not feeling too crappy at the mo
