Hi Peeblebeach, how are you? Getting exciting now!!

audreyraines · 03/06/2009 06:38

goodness pebblebeach, that is so soon!

blue76 · 03/06/2009 07:03

Welcome soulsu.

I spoke far too soon about sleeping well. Had the worst night ever last night. Kept waking up lying on my back and it made me feel dizzy and sick. Poor dp was trying to cuddle me and I ended up snapping at him.

Hi - it is soon 9 wks tomorrow is my last day when I'll be 35wks, plus I have a week's holiday mid-July too....

And sorry you have horrible night blue76, I know what you mean about dizzy on your back, I got that in last pg, not so much this time so far. Maybe you should try propping a small pillow behind your back, then you won't be able to roll onto your back (or get a dream genii! thanks to the ladies on here recommending them, I have one and they are ace)

pebblebeach · 03/06/2009 13:18

D'oh meant to also say .... am great thanks Soulsu, loving the weather at the mo, I hope your pg is being gentle on you

mummyhill · 03/06/2009 13:25

Hi just popping in so I don't lose the thread again. Not got time to catch up as life is chaotic atm. Will pop back later!

audreyraines · 03/06/2009 13:48

woke up with my first leg cramp this morning. i remember getting them in bed when pg with ds. they are horrid!

arolf · 03/06/2009 14:15

hi, is this the september 09 thread? I'm new to mumsnet, and expecting my first on Sept 20th - not sure where to go for chatter!

blinder · 03/06/2009 14:30

Hi arolf - yes you are in the right place! There's lots of September mums here.

I thought I would tell y'all how my first hypnobirthing lesson went. I have a previous traumatic birth so wanted to be totally relaaaaxed about this one .

Well the woman was immediately approachable and clearly trustworthy with 11 years midwifery under her belt and 5 years of hypnobirthing on top. We talked about how fear impedes labour and I watched a hypnobirth video of two women birthing their babies in the most peaceful, calm, simple way ever. I was worried about watching those videos because even the thought of crowning makes me feel dizzy and sick. But these two women were wonderful to behold. The babies just seemed to slip gently out (sorry if TMI).

Anyway, I came away from the session feeling light as air. Another big plus is how involved DP is going to be as HE will be coaching me through all the techniques. He is quite chuffed about it!

Anyone else planning a hypnobirth?

arolf · 03/06/2009 14:40

that's great - I've been wondering where everyone gathered, glad I've found it!

Although I'm now 24 weeks, I had my first midwife appointment today in the UK as I was overseas until quite recently, so it'll be good to see what everyone else is up to at this stage in pregnancy in the UK! I have absolutely no idea what to expect! also, is anyone else on here in the Bishops Stortford/Hinxton area?

nitnat84 · 03/06/2009 16:54

Audreyraines- Oh the pain! I have woken a few times in the night for the last weeks or so with terrible leg cramps. I wake up screaming! Hope you get a gd night sleep tonight without the cramps.
Hello all the new peeps! Hope you are all doing well.

nitnat84 · 03/06/2009 17:00

6 weeks and 2 days of work left for me

Neddie · 03/06/2009 17:14

nitnat The leg cramps need vigorous rubbing then they go- I have restless legs or should I say foot. I have to walk around the living room for ages before it stops.

Neddie · 03/06/2009 17:15

oh sorry v.rude- hello new posters and welcome.

pebblebeach · 03/06/2009 19:41

audreyraines, neddie, nitnat - can sympathise with the leg cramps... I had them last time, soooo not what you want to be doing in the middle of the night I remember being so shocked how painful it was and then very wide awake. None yet this time, fingers crossed.

blinder - that is really interesting! It's good to actually see the evidence IYSWIM, there are no hypnobirthing courses round here, but I believe that the relaxation/visualisation techniques I used last time really helped me cope and I will be using them again this time (well until transition when I was begging for epidural when it was too late ... just so I don't scare 1st timers - after that when the pushing started it was cope-able with again, no pain relief here).

Hi arolf... hope you manage to navigate the NHS... I am overseas and feel a bit jealous of you "going home", does it feel nice/odd/both to be back?

And I think nitnat wins on the count down to to mat leave .

You can tell when DH is away.... lots of posts from me!

soulsu · 03/06/2009 21:08

Oh hypnobirthing now that is of interest to me, unfortunately DH thinks its a load of twaddle. Will have to work on him swiftly and get booked in with someone if possible. Do you think it is worth the money? or do you think if you get a book/CD/DVD and do something on the cheap will be just as effective?

ladylush · 03/06/2009 21:15

Welcome arolf
I had cramp the other morning when I woke up and stretched my legs. Nothing since but my ankles have been swollen the last two nights so I've been elevating them. Running out of nice clothes to wear. Disappointed in the high street. Finding it hard to get jeans/trousers. Tried some on in H+M but they were skinny style and I couldn't even get them over my hips, let alone around my legs. I'm a size 12-14 and was trying size 14 so quite annoying. I did buy quite a nice cotton dress though. Most of the shops do quite a limited Maternity range. Maybe I will try online shopping.
I've got 7 weeks left at work I'm taking annual leave prior to commencing maternity leave.

LittleCheese · 03/06/2009 22:36

Hi all hope you are all well. I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible cramp in my leg i screamed and woke everyone up. I did suffer with it when pg with dd but only towards the very end.

I still have 11 weeks left at work as im working till the week before edd. Wish I had less but will be nice to have lots of time at home with baby. I do have 2 weeks off work though to go to spain so only 9 working weeks and i only work 2 days a week so 18 days left

LittleCheese · 03/06/2009 22:38

oops i counted wrong 12 weeks with two weeks off so 10 weeks/20 days left at work

blue76 · 04/06/2009 08:12

Ladylush I've bought quite a few things from affordablematernity.co.uk The delivery is VERY reasonable [cheap and quick] and there are loads of bargains on there.
Welcome arolf I'm due on the 20th too.

Re cramps - I haven't had them this time around [did with both dd's]. Reckon it's due to the cravings for salty foods this time around that I've not suffered.

She's been tapdancing on my bladder and it bloody hurts...to the point where I'm in agony and didn't go to work yday [couldn't stand the thought of having to walk around a massive school].

OP posts:
LittleCheese · 04/06/2009 09:13

well dd decided to wake up ridiculously early this morning and there was no getting her back to sleep, so we have had a lovely morning and baked blueberry muffins for breakfast. She thinks its amazing that im letting her have cake for breakfast.

blinder · 04/06/2009 09:19

The course I am on cost £250 which sounds alot but I am spending the 'health in pregnancy' grant money on it.

it's a good investment to me because birth fear has been really affecting me.

for the money I have 5 sessions with my DP and the teacher/midwife. each session lasts 2.5 to 3 hours. All the CDs and the book are then free and she is adamant that I can call her with any query at any time about hypnobirthing OR the pregnancy in general.

my attitude to the birth changed alot just in the first session. I did find the book useful soulsu but it was the teaching session that really embedded the ideas for me in a way that reading couldn't. They double as antenatal classes for me and DP too so I think they are worth the cost.

i'll keep updating but I think just the relaxation alone will be invaluable as pebblebeach says.

for anyone who's interested, I found my teacher on www.hypnobirthing.com/wales.htm The other British, European and Worldwde teachers are on this page... www.hypnobirthing.com/findapract.htm

no leg cramps for me yet but Baby definitely meeting ribcage already...

blinder · 04/06/2009 09:20

www.hypnobirthing.com/wales.htm
www.hypnobirthing.com/findapract.htm

sorry - forgot linkage!

arolf · 04/06/2009 10:03

hi pebblebeach - yup, I'm hugely glad to be back in the UK - it all seems so much more relaxed here already! Have had a run in with the receptionist at the local GP surgery, but the midwife seemed nice, booked me into the hospital I wanted, so now I just need to wait and see what happens next, and hope that baby stays healthy and stays off my bladder!

the hypnobirthing thing sounds interesting blinder, something we'll be looking into I'm sure - the closer september gets, the more nervous I'm getting, so any relaxation technique would be good.

Oh, and I'm working right up until my due date, so I think that's 106 days to go, as due date is a sunday. That's unless baby has other ideas, of course...

FairySparkles · 04/06/2009 11:02

Hi girlies, been away for a couple of weeks so I'm not even gonna try and catch up with all the posts - it'll take me forever!!!

Hope I haven't missed any major news??

Welcome to the newbies

Hope everyone is feeling well - lush weather is a helper of putting smiles on faces tho eh?!

24 weeks now - and it's going a wee bit too fast at the mo, haven't really got anything ready for bubs yet! Feel quite unprepared! Going away again this weekend for my birthday - then holiday again for a week in July! AAARRGH - this little one's gonna be sleeping in dd's cot with her at this rate!
....note to self: must be more organised!
