Hi everyone, went to see the Consultant today - 28 weeks. Everything looks fine and had lots of blood tests as well. Bubs is appreantly head down but it is too soon to say whether it will stay there as still enough room to move around.

Also went for a tour of the private facilites at QC (Sir Stanley Clatyon Ward) which look very nice and clean. Was very quiet there, only 8 rooms and 1 occupied. Sounds like they look after you pretty well and should be lots of support for BF and people to show you how to bath and change the baby which will be good for a newbie like me.

The midwife offered to show me around the delivery suites but I declined on the basis I am not quite ready to be amongst other woman in pain. Also a bit worried about hearing lots of screaming. I have realised that I am in complete denial about the labour. Just keep thinking about the epidural and how soon they will give it to me. I start antenatal classes in two weeks so hopefully that will force me to confront a bit of what is to come.

101 days till due day and 99 till I finish work.

nitnat84 · 04/06/2009 17:28

101 days till due date and 31 till I finish work!
Feeling quite sicky today and the baby chooses today to be really active! Typical!

ladylush · 04/06/2009 18:17

Thanks Blue - will check out that website. Main problem I have with online stuff is that I am tall (5ft 10) so jeans/trousers are often too short. The internet companies don't tend to have a good returns service either (have to pay to send something back). I liked some of the ASOS stuff but would not risk ordering trousers/jeans. Anyhow, got some white linen trousers and some bootcut jeans in Next today. Was surprised at how good the fit was. Usually their jeans don't fit me that well. So quite happy

Re. mat leave - with ds I worked until 39 weeks, but this time I have ds to consider and I want to spend the summer holidays with him before lo arrives and he has to share me forever more

LittleCheese · 04/06/2009 21:01

Hi Ladies hope you are all well. I went shopping with dd this aft and ended up with horrendous back and hip pain just from walking around for half an hour I feel quite miserable about it now as never suffered anything like this with dd.

We have decided we are getting DD the Jamestown furniture from mothercare so baby can have dd's cot/bed and drawers. Do any of you have any experience of this range ( i always like to get other peoples views)

Also have any of you ordered from a site called Paul stride? I have found the baby carrier I want on here half the price of anywhere else and there maxi cosi car seat and base are also cheaper than a lot of places. Again i am nervous of ordering from places I am unsure of.

Sorry for long post.

soulsu · 04/06/2009 21:18

Hi all, hope you are well. Blinder thanks for all the info on the hypnobirthing, I've contacted a practitioner so hopefully I'll get a chat with him soon and that DH will see the benefits. Work is getting quite difficult now, I feel I'm driving a tank and I'm soooo slow, I wonder how much worse it can get, don't remember this from last time at all. As for leg cramps these started the other night and I didn't connect it to the pregnancy at all and kept wondering why I was suffering, now I know!

blue76 · 04/06/2009 21:41

ladylush, I've bought quite a few things from next. I'm quite tall [5'8''] and have found their sizes pretty good too! I'm a real stingebag when it comes to buying my own clothes, so I count myself lucky to live so near to an outlet village!

Had 25 week appt with mw's today. Was really pleased to find that one of them was the ward sister who had helped me to bf dd1 [nearly 12 years ago]

Was fantastic to hear hb for the first time! Everything seems normal and I'm on 50th centile for fundal height.

One thing I am a bit gutted about is I am suffering from spd. Was hoping it wouldn't rear its ugly head this time around. They've referred my to physio. Hurts!

Still keen to have home-birth. They went into more detail about it today and it sounds great.

31 get-ups til summer hols! Apologies for another selfish post.

littlecheese Paul Stride is a nursery shop in York, it's really good. Have bought stuff from there myself, although from the shop not online.

LittleCheese · 04/06/2009 22:46

twinklegreen, thats great that they are in york. I never even looked where they were based. Im not far from york (leeds) so will have a drive over one day.

mumtobe23 · 05/06/2009 11:19

Hi ladies! 27 weeks today! Whoo hoo!
I have my 28 week growth scan next Thursday so I'm both nervous & looking forward to it! Any one got or applied for the HiP grant yet? I was told by my GP that i had to get a form from my midwife who I?m not seeing for another week when i'll be 29 weeks for god sake!

Had very bad "rib cage" pain last night & found it hard to get comfortable at all. Not much to report other then that, hope your all well x

blue76 · 05/06/2009 11:54

mum2be - mw told me yday that she'll give me HiP grant forms when I next go [I'll be nearly 29 weeks]. She said it takes about 3 weeks to go straight into your bank account. Everyone should apply as we are all entitled to it

mumtobe23 · 05/06/2009 11:59

Thanks Blue, I dont feel so alone now! I was starting to think i was the only one who hadn't been given a form x

evie2000 · 05/06/2009 12:47

haven't been by for ages but just thought I'd say hello and hope everyone is really well and feeling good.

audreyraines · 05/06/2009 13:11

am planning to get my hip form at 28 week checkup. i don't think you can claim it until after 25 weeks anyway, so no big deal.

mrswee · 05/06/2009 13:37

hello everyone!!

seems I've missed out a LOT of posts (including change of thread!) by not visiting for a few weeks.

I hope everyone is ok and doing well?

I'm 23+4 weeks now and feeling like it's taking a while... I'm sure in the next few weeks I'll feel like it's all going too fast!

I'm a bid of a bag of worries, had lots of strange symptoms but nothing actually wrong ... I'm sure a lot of us are the same, specially the first timers like me! I'd like to know how I can calm down a bit!?

I have 11 weeks of work left... but two of them are weeks off in July . I'm so looking forward to finishing work and so looking forward to having my baby!

mummyhill · 05/06/2009 17:34

Am seeing madwife on Monday will be 25=3 so will beat her with a big stick for matb1 and my hip application!

ladylush · 05/06/2009 18:14

Blue - sorry about the SPD It's horrid isn't it. I've been getting twinges at night time (and after.....ahem......intimacy with h )but it hasn't developed further yet. I had it with ds (quite early in pg) so glad to have avoided it thus far.

Another one here collecting MatB1 and Grant form at 28 week mw appointment.

SprinkleofStardust · 05/06/2009 18:41

Hi,

Blinder, that sounds amazing, I like the idea of hypnobirthing, haven't looked into it at all before now, but will do now!! I really want a home birth and have convinced DH that it's a good idea, took him to a workshop and he came out far more supportive and understanding. However, I have found that the midwives I've encountered so far haven't exactly been overly enthusiastic about it which isn't particularly what I want and I saw a consultant who was so negative about it, it made me more determined though, lol!! Is anyone else having or thinking of having a home birth? 10 weeks until maternity leave, can't wait!!

Oh and I found that when I stood up for too long in the day I was getting leg cramps, so be careful of that ladies, but I found elevating them in bed (just on a pillow) really helped and I haven't woken up screaming and scaring the living daylights out of DH for a while now!!

blinder · 05/06/2009 18:46

You're welcome soulsu. Hope the appointment goes really well!

We still dont have a nursery so furniture is out of the question for now but I only have seven DAYS of work left and feel so so happy about that.

Mind you, once I finish work, I need to write a massive dissertation (30,000 words) that I have been avoiding so it won't be all fun.

Really interested in the home-birthing blue76. I haven't discussed this with the MW yet. Was yours supportive? Sorry if I missed earlier posts! (commiserations on SPD btw )

audreyraines · 05/06/2009 19:15

hi stardust, intending to have a homebirth with this one too (as long as placenta moves out of the way!)
you should go for it, it's such an excellent experience.

blinder · 05/06/2009 20:27

Hi stardust and audrey! I'm looking into birthing pools too but I have such a tiny living room that I may have to move the sofa out .

I like the idea of being in a pool in my own home, blissed out on hypnotherapy, with a rhubarb crumble in the oven keeping warm and champagne in the fridge keeping cool.

Any other birth fantasies ladies?

daffodilli · 05/06/2009 21:08

Hello all! not been on for a while but have lurked now and again! Glad everyone is doing as well as can be whilst growing babies!!

Hypnobirthing sounds really good.Have to say I have not looked into birth options at all yet,all we have decided is that it will be a hospital birth, not the homebirth that I would prefer, only because I have no idea how I will react at the time! Maybe for number 2 once I've got the general idea of it...!

Due to the Uni holidays starting on the 24th June,I have only 13 days left in work . Maternity leave starts on the 28th August, hopefully! Cant wait as am bloody tired!
Saw MW for 25 week check on tues, she was happy with bump, which suddenly grew overnight on saturday ! She did not have the HIP forms, neither do my surgery, both saying that they weren't allowed to stock them as they were too expensive if someone nicked them! Have to ring a number off a webiste and they will send to the MW who will sign and send to me....! Bit longwinded!

Hello to newbies! (feel like one myself as I haven't been on here for a while !)

bigbang · 05/06/2009 21:54

Hey everyone,

I am off to Cornwall for two weeks tomorrow, hope the weather picks up! Should be able to come on every now and then but will hopefully be very busy on the beach and having cream teas

Hope the next few weeks go smoothly for all!

blue76 · 06/06/2009 08:26

blinder the mw's up here push for home-births. If one is low-risk and has had straightforward births before, then they recommend it. They were also trying to get me to think about a pool at home...saying it helps spd symptoms. Dh up for that idea and asked them if they wanted to join us and told them not to forget their bikinis - bloody tart, he is
They were that supportive, they said they wouldn't be happy if this baby decides to make her appearance during the night, as they work days!
I was completely honest with them and told them that I'm not fond of ward sisters. That being the reason I want a home-birth. They seemed to be very understanding
They said they bring equipment to my house around 38 weeks, so it's all here ready. If I bottle it I can go to hospital last minute.
The only downside [for some] is that you cannot have an epidural. I can't have one anyway as I have scoliosis. Plus I don't like the idea of being paralysed/not being able to go to the toilet/risk of headaches. Also, one of my close friends had an absolutely awful experience, whereby she'd had an epidural and then needed emergency c section. The epidural hadn't worked and she felt every cut. Needless to say, she sued the hospital for thousands. Yeah labour hurts, but there's something kinda exciting about the pain. Am I a freak???

OP posts:
audreyraines · 06/06/2009 10:49

not a freak blue, labour is a pretty wild experience, i'm kinda looking forward to it in a weird kind of way.
it's so much easier to plan a homebirth and then decide at the last minute you want to go into hospital, than the other way round.
i had these blissful ideas of giving birth in a pool, but ds was 2 weeks early, and we hadn't received the pool liner yet, and also he was so fast we probably couldn't have faffed around with the pool anyway
