Yes, wagon comp sounds good, better than norty stuff Of course all scores must be in tomorrow morning 9am sharp (top 5 for comparison) and not during comp as that would mean you're not watching properly
Hi SES! Yes, but BGT is also on tomorrow . Weigh in sounds pretty good to me!

lardybump · 16/05/2009 12:04

right I am off we are visiting friends... If I am in I may be in if not then good luck with your comp ladies!!!!!

glaskham · 16/05/2009 12:11

Sky + ses... sky+!! i couldn't live without it!!

glaskham · 16/05/2009 12:16

will have a shot at comp- but can't promise anything... DH will really PHSL when i suggest it!!

sorkycakey · 16/05/2009 12:17

Right will pop in for euro-vish start but off now, got tons to do

Kayzr · 16/05/2009 13:19

Yay Nat, that's great news!!!

Dad has taken DS1 for a walk so I get some peace.

I love eurovision!!! But we're out tonight, might sky+ it!!

Diege · 16/05/2009 16:45

Hello! Hope you're feeling better now Kayz!
Well mw didn't ring back, so not holding out much hope for having a look around the 'low risk' labour rooms (all 2 of them).Am seriously thinking maybe home would be best, but then have some residual worried about the whole thing (things like, what if it gets stuck like dd1 did?? Presume ventouse etc are not done by mw at home??). Having said that, mw tells me that they only have 2 mw's for tomorrow's deliveries at hosp. (expecting 12 deliveries) so wondering what happens if mw needed for home birth in such a situation? Presume hosp takes priority??
Just some rambling thoughts! Looking forward to the big comp tonight

Moosy · 16/05/2009 16:58

Round here the hosp MWs are completely separate to the community MWs who do the home births. The hospital is always short staffed but there are 6 comm MWs for our area.

Hope everyone's having a nice saturday

glaskham · 16/05/2009 17:34

Diege- am also sure the Hb's are lead by community MW's and not the ward MW's... The night i had DD1 there was a staff shortage at the hospital (a friend from work had her DD in the hospital on the same night!!) but i had 2 MW's come to my house for my labour, and they never mentioned anything about the hospital- I know the main MW came from home too.

DD2 is having her 12weeks growth spurt i think- wont settlefor longer than an hour after a feed right now, and is very clingy, only settling on my chest, so have strapped her into the sling and its doing some good on preventing the contant winging she's been doing most of he day!! Hope the night is better!!

sorkycakey · 16/05/2009 17:51

Good Glask for tonight I hope she settles. Dd2 took 4 nights before she was through the worst of the spurt.

Diege usually the CMW also work shifts in the hospital. If you've booked for a HB (in my area) then 2 mw's from the hospital/on-call team will attend.
The first mw is usually released from the hospital if it's after 6pm, the second will arrive if the first calls to say it's an active labour. The second mw is the on-call mw.

If you labour during the day the CMW will attend you first and ring labour ward to let them know it's active labour. They then will usually send for on-call if they are pushed, or sometimes another member of the CMW team turns up.
HB will take precedent, it's your right to give birth at home. They can spin you whatever line they like but the mw have to come.

There has been legal precedent set when a Trust a little while ago refused to have mw's attend a planned hb due to staff shortages. Ruling stated the Trust would be negligent and ordered them to fund an independent mw for the lady concerned.

Re: worries of Ds getting stuck, they won't have ventouse but might help him out 'old style', rocking his head or releasing his shoulders. This has happened to me twice (shoulder dystocia with Ds1 and ill-presented head with Dd2) It was dealt with very efficiently and effectively by the mw's.
If for whatever reason they suspect something is amiss they ring 999 and blue-light you to hospital, but it is quite rare for this to happen. The hospital will be ready for you and aware of the situation when you arrive.

No.4 will shoot out! I think that's why Dd2 had a bit of a problem with her head tbh. She descended so bloody fast (approx 3 minutes) that she didn't get enough time to turn so her shoulders were in line.

You will be fine, go listen to that CD

glaskham · 16/05/2009 18:03

thanks sorky... she's quite happily settled in the sling now, but i am actually dreading the prospect of no sleep- DH is off tomorrow but something tells me he'll want a bit of a lie-in too and then the older 2 DC's will make so much noise they'll wake me anyway... and feel awful asking him to be the one to get up early as he's up earlier than me every morning for work, and this is his only day off till next sat when we have to get up early too... Argh... she may sleep fine, but i'm getting tired just expecting a bad night, followed by another and another etc... oh well we'll see what happens!!

Diege · 16/05/2009 18:04

Thanks everyone, that's really useful info' (esp about hb being a legal right SORKY). The cmv and hosp mws used to be separte here, but now are combined in 'teams', so you may be on community 3 days, then hosp 2 days say. Am def warming to the idea, not least because of childcare problems. Wouldn't want dds to be in then house if I'm honest, but would be easier to be based here so that dh could pop them up to school or across for a few hours to neighbours etc, than organising a full scale drop off on way to hossy! Wonder if I would wake them if labouring at night?
GLASK, remind me, was it you who got the e-bay sling? Looks really good and wondered how you were finding it? Good luck for tonight
Moos, how long until your scan now? You must be getting excited
SORKY, it's funny how we know we're 'done' with having babies isn't it? I always thought I'd feel endlessly broody, but when you know, you know! My dh is still being arsey about the snip though

Diege · 16/05/2009 18:08

Right girls, have just checked the listings and the show is on from 8pm til 11.15 . Print off the scoring forms from BBC website or there's a link on tiscali homepage. Come on now, it'll be worth it!!!

glaskham · 16/05/2009 18:14

Diege- i honestly dont think i'd make 11.15pm!! I've not made it past 10.30 since DD2 arrived!!

Diege- the sling is great, and yes it was me who bought it from ebay (called a celeb sling) you'll see it in action on saturday, i have also had my nephew in it for the best poart of 2hrs the other day, he's around 16lb, and loads bigger than DD2 obviously (at almost 10lb heavier) and i was fine with him in it too!! I gather it'll be easier to adjust to the extra weight over the time DD2 puts the weight on, but i was more than happy with my nephew in it!!

glaskham · 16/05/2009 18:28

I'm feeling a bit sick and drained of energy- just went really dizzy at the top of the stairs and felt i was gonna fall back down again (luckily had take DD2 out of the sling) so i'm gonna lie down on the couch with DD2. Dh is on his way home so will hopefully not mind sorting the older 2 for bed!!

sorkycakey · 16/05/2009 18:49

Have forms, will score.

sorkycakey · 16/05/2009 18:51

Meant to say I bought the gf book today so will answer any queries anyone had over timings

Diege · 16/05/2009 22:01

Ok, I'm getting my scores in now so I'm not tempted to cheat

  1. UK 2. Israel 3. Turkey 4.Greece 5. Norway

Have sat on wagon ball through the whole lot; walking now like John Wayne...Thought it was really great this year!
Hope you've all scored!!!

GYo · 17/05/2009 01:24

lol at you lot and the eurovision!

Ses- how are u feeling? hope the feeding "frenzy" isnt too stressful. Was the MW nice today? Remember you are doing a fab job and DS is doing great... scales dont mean everything

Gruff- how are you doing? feeling any better?

Nat- phew!

Sorry again for crap post. DH back in our bed so late night typing whilst feeding has to be kept to minimum , he is next to me!

OP posts:
SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 17/05/2009 03:21

GYo - hi and thanks for the brownies
DH will get back to sleeping in our bed then ??! I just don't want to risk both of us in bed with DS. Never thought I'd go for co-sleeping at all but it seems to be what works best at the moment.
MW was a little more supportive but made it clear that if he had lost weight again we'd have been having a different conversation about FF top ups. Fortunately that didn't apply as weight had stayed the same. Yet another MW is coming Monday so let's hope he's put some weight on and we can forget all about this!
DS spent most of Sat quite sleepy. Fine and alert when he was awake but falling asleep within 15 mins of starting a feed so lots of short feeds. I'm hoping it was because my milk is now satisfying him more and that it will have helped him put on some weight.

We're hoping to take DS to church today. There's loads of people waiting to meet him and there's normally a good 30 or so under 4s at the morning service so won't feel too self conscious if he cries...

On Monday my cousin (& good friend) is coming to stay for a couple of days. Should be good as she's happy to just fit in and help.

Right, DS is starting to get sleepy again so time to tickle his feet to make sure he gets a little more and then we'll settle again! Catch up later!!

Kayzr · 17/05/2009 07:14

Morning.

Hope you all enjoyed eurovision!!

Last night was quite good except for DS1 falling off a chair and cutting his eye. He has a nice cut on his eyelid and looks like he's been fighting Frank Bruno or something. He doesn't seem remotely bothered by it and soon stopped crying when Jenny(who owns restaurant) gave him some smarties for being a good boy. I've promised him a toy of his choice today.

Still not much sleep last night. Not sure if it this blocked nose or what but I feel exhausted now.

Ses, I'm glad feeding is getting better. Fingers crossed for you. But don't give the FF top ups unless you want to. You are his mum not the mw.

Hope everyone is well.

sorkycakey · 17/05/2009 07:24

Got my results:
1-Greece
2-Iceland
3-Norway
4-Portugal
5-Germany

Nowhere sodding near!!!

Ses co-sleeping should help give you a good supply of milk and yes Dh's do return to the bed at some point
Although mine never left, but it is a rather large bed.

Please keep telling yourself O is your son, not the mw's.
It's not for her to have a chat with you about feeding/top-ups/FF etc unless you request it.
He will regain his weight by 2-3 weeks usually ime, unless like Glask baby is rather prem.
So even if he has only gained an ounce, your milk is good enough for him, he is happy and healthy and you are doing a fantastic job.
Also if you feel you are doing well and are dreading the mw visits/weighing etc, you can tell them that you feel everything is fine and you want to be discharged.

On the sleepy baby front, they do sleep an incredible amount in the first 2 weeks, but if he's not taking a full feed and looking like he's falling asleep, you can unlatch him and change his nappy, then put him back to the same side.
If it happens again, strip him off or take him to the door where it's a bit cooler. That ought to do it, the wee stinker

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 17/05/2009 07:50

Kay - poor DS1, but I bet he's forgotten all about it now!

Sorky - thanks for advice / encouragement. We'd tried the changing nappy to wake him up (works well) but then, yes, he'd go back to sleep again. Will use the back door trick too!

I just watched the second half of the results programme for Eurovision. Some of those outfits...!

GruffaloSoldier · 17/05/2009 08:40

Morning all

Everything is going much better. Gruff cub hardly suffered at all with colic yesterday and went to bed at 7.45, woke at 10.30, then went down at 11.30 then woke at 3.40 am and then 6.25 am. Thats just with breastfeeding so I am assuming he is getting what he needs now.Night before last he was feeding every two hours!

We are using GF routine too and going well!

Thanks for all encouragement!

Glask - I am hoping to drop the formula today as Gruff cub seems to have got the hang of it!

Ses - my sis used a bed guard for co sleeping so baby was on other side and her DH could stay in bed.

lardybump · 17/05/2009 08:59

morning, i feel poo......... bad night dd & ds have both got stinking colds and both ended up in my bed and were awake most of the night!!!!!!!!!!! I had a huge row with dp!!!!!! I feel like pissing off on my own this morning but wouldn't do that to my babies....

DP had a few drinks last night and when we got home carried dd to bed (she was already asleep). He asked me to come up and help him. At the bottom of the stairs he passes wind so I have my head down and holding my nose. He then smacks dd's head really hard on the beam that goes across our stairs... She wakes up screaming, he screaches at me that it was my fault because he had asked for help and I should have warned him, he then created the most nasty argument of all time.. He is in bed still sleeping it off. I am so cross I really am!!

Fucking prick.... (excuse me)
