NotTellingYet · 29/04/2005 22:27

Well I would have said I'll tell them once we've got the point of having the first scan and knowing that things look ok (only fair to give plenty of notice as I work very much on my own, so it will take a while to train anyone else to cover for me) - but given the current scan situation, your guess is as good as mine babygibbon!

beckymumof3 · 30/04/2005 07:54

BG I know exactly what its like...there is a 12.5 mth age gap between my two youngest...my MIL said (and I quote) "thats disgusting" when we told her!!!

Of course you will cope, don't let these negative types get you down - its not too bad having children that close together (they may both still be napping in the day - now that is a big positive )

Chin up

beckymumof3 · 30/04/2005 07:55

p.s. BTW when we told her this time she (MIL) asked if we have considered our 'other options' and if my husband would be getting the snip!! Anyone would think this is our 20th child not our 4th!

expressmummy · 30/04/2005 22:13

Sophmum · 01/05/2005 16:49

Hi all, sorry so long in getting back.

Private scans DQ2: I just phoned my local BUPA place which has a Women's Health Centre and made an appointment for whenever I wanted. They do dating/reassurance scans from 6 -15 weeks, nuchal 10-13wks etc. Just scanning without nuchal testing is £96 and full analytical scan is £179. They seemed really nice on phone, in stark contrast to treatment received at local NHS early pregnancy unit.

I even asked if they would do the whole pregnancy and labour but they don't have the facilities unfortunately. They said I could book a pregnancy and labour package with a recommended obst. but I'd still have to deliver in the NHS hospital (and it costs £5k, which seems a lot to be in the same grotty place).

Anyway, I have my midwife booking in 2 weeks, and desparately hoping she'll pick up the heartbeat. Even though I saw it on my early scan I'm terrified it's not going to be right. Also, stupidly, I'm really worried now as I'm not feeling as sick as I was in the evenings. I spent all last week throwing up every night, and now I'm not and am convinced it is because something has gone wrong. AAghhh - 8.5 weeks now, roll on 12 and my BUPA scan.

Sorry to waffle on in such a gloomy way.

Hi there...don't know your background but have you considered having the baby at home and hiring an independant midwife if yours aren't very supportive? Or are there any birth centres near you? The one I visited near here was lovely and the MWs were fantastically supportive. Just an idea?

beckymumof3 · 01/05/2005 19:35

p.s. Could someone post that link again to the 'stats' page?

beckymumof3 · 01/05/2005 19:38

BTW is Melanie still out there? How did the scan go?

dramaqueen72 · 01/05/2005 19:50

sophmum, thansk for the info, I found a private hospital near me that apparently does pg scans, tho i havent rung them yet, just looked them up on internet. dont suppose dh will be very keen if 6wk+ scan is okay, might have to do some serious 'talking into'!.....been feeling rough all day and finally ate something only ton find I'm starving! LOL cant bear making food right now but ate a lot in restaurant
dont say sorry for being gloomy, its SO how pg makes you feel, theres so much to worry about you cant help but have bad 'gloomy' moments can you?! loads of m/s goes by 8-12wks so sounds normal
is anyone else hiring a doppler? i am, when i'm 10wks.

george32 · 01/05/2005 21:02

Hi everyone.
Nemo, so sorry you have been feeling pretty grim. Hope you are a bit brighter now.
I've had a pretty dreadful day myself. Feel like I've got PMT, only a million times worse, & then I'm down because I'm so enormous & then I worry that something might have already gone wrong. Roll on the scan, I so hope everything goes OK this time. I've been whining all day so poor DP will be glad when I've gone to bed!! . Thanks for saying that this is normal DQ, that does make me feel better
I hired a doppler last time, quite funny now but it arrived the day I had my erpc so not so keen this time around. Have you had them before DQ? Are they good?
Becky here is the stats thread . Sorry your MIL is saying such dreadful things to you. Hope everyone is else is being a bit more supportive for you.

Bad experience whilst cooking mince last night - it smells disgusting!! I'm veggie so had to make DP stir it for me so I didn't wretch. Is this normal????

backpacker · 02/05/2005 11:34

Hi everyone

I'm also due in dec (fingers crossed). My first pg and I'm also ignorant about this site so please excuse any faux pas. Last period was on 21st March so that makes me seven weeks I think. found out a week ago. I'm backpacking round Australia at the moment with dp. Sounds like I need to get on the phone to get an appointment with my GP as soon as.

I've been reading thru your emails and I don't understand what the +3 etc means as In "I'll be 12+3 by my next scan".

Does it sound very mad to continue travelling until the end of June when I'll be 12 or 13 weeks pg?

PG wasn't an accident but I didn't expect it too happened so quickly. We're both a bit stunned really.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2005 11:39

Congrats, backpacker!

12+3= 12 weeks, 3 days. I think.

The round ligament pain has come back to revisit me this time round. Ouch!

DH brought me a bag of Jelly Babies last night and I was very sorry I ate so many later on.

george32 · 02/05/2005 19:46

Congrats on your BFP Backpacker.
What fantastic news esp as you are away travelling. Just be wary of carrying anything too heavy - you'll have to get your DP carrying everything now!!!

Expat, what is round ligament pain? Doesn't sound nice!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely bank holiday.

dramaqueen72 · 02/05/2005 23:06

evening ladies. congrats backpacker, dont over strain yourself but otherwise, if it can take you mind off worrying and any morning sickness that may come your way, sounds great to keep backpacking. I would get all your basics checked out with a nearby dr,(blood pressure/due date/etc) and then start the big midwife /dr thing when you get home. they all start at 12 wks anyhow.
my last af was march 20th so we are close! I'm 6wks 2days (6+2) now. due christmas
nemo how you feeling today? any better?
ugh Guys i'm so bloody sick, I really am, sick as ever. thrwoing up in the mornings and threatening to all day. did some research on morning sickness and foudn out some more i didnt know, so incase anyone else has/gets it quite as bad as me heres my new info.
HCG is an irritant (!) and this alone causes nausea, nothing you can do about that pg hormone, but, it also increases saliva which makes you feel sick so try lemon/vinegar/salty things to dry up the extra spit! (works, tried that) low blood sugar also adds to sick feeling, so eat every two hours. try eating Protein last thing at night as this digests slower (apparently) and leaves something in your tummy next morning (last night i ate nuts, only protein i could poss face late and this morning was less sick than day before, am also eating nuts now too, brazils and almonds ) the old 'dry biscuit/cracker 15mins before you even step out of bed, has never helped me much, but i do try it, helps with the dizzy sick feeling more than the throwing up any moment now feeling i found!! lots of people swear by preggie pops (thata lollypops for grownups!) but i think i might send off for the latest much raved about remedy, its a cd which in clincal trials was over 90% effective in NHS hospitals. subliminal sounds or whatever. my latest saviour, is a stash of sherbet lemons in the car for those 'I am going to be sick But I am driving on motorway'moments i keep having.
sorry so long post but god if it can help anyone.......please tell me I'm not the only one being this sick???????????????????

Nemo1977 · 03/05/2005 07:34

hi all
backpacker congrates to u hun. If u have the energy to continue then go for it..lol

DQ still not too good i am afraid..just stressing constantly which cant be doing my little babe any good at all. Am also sicky feeling but havent thrown up [seems to decide it prefers other end...sorry tmi]

I had preggy pops with last pip and they did seem to work but when i lost baby i threw them away.

anyways am going to go
take care

expatinscotland · 03/05/2005 08:06

Round ligament pain is this ligament that you'd never know about if you weren't pregnant stretching. It supports the uterus, I think.

I ate too fast at lunch yesterday and very nearly was sick.

I just have to nibble things slowly and keep munching all day.

Thanks for the reminder - I'll bring a lemon slice to smell along w/me today.

Coffee . . . I love the smell of it, but the very thought of drinking it makes me feel sick.

Still having a strong, sweet cup of PG Tips every morning, tho.

sweetheart · 03/05/2005 08:55

Morning everyone!!! What a beautiful bank holiday we had!!! I sat in the garden for pretty much the whole weekend. Although I was pretty narked to find that hardly any of my summer clothes fit I can't believe I'm having this problem already!!!! I'll be in fat pants before you know it!!

Congrats backpacker - I'll add you to the list!!!

Nemo, so sorry your not feeling too good hun. I know what a worrying time this is for you and it's only natural your feeling a little down. And sophmum - please feel free to have a moan whenever you want - I know I have been feeling down from time to time - at least we can come on here and vent!!!!

Babygibbon - so sorry your not getting support from your family - we're here for you hun.

I've had my own moments of doubt this weekend. The main symptom I was getting was sleepless nights - only I have slept right through for about the last week so now I'm starting to worry that something is wrong.

Hope you all had a great bank holiday weekend.

MINNIE1 · 03/05/2005 09:51

Morning ladies,

Hope you all had a wonderfull weekend?

You lot can really chat, but all sounds well with you. I feel for the m/s girls as i had that last time and i had to leave work with it.. The boss though i had a hang over (ya right)None of it this time yet.

nemo,
glad to hear your doc is getting you an early scan, it will put your mind at rest..

Sweetheart,
Your bean is beating away. Great news hun. And i have great faith all will be ok with your little bean.

Ok have to im starving and have to eat, will catch up with you all..

kangel · 03/05/2005 09:59

Morning everyone!

Well I am feeling absolutly aweful this morning and all over the weekend. I don't know how I got up this morning and I don't know how I am going to get through the day sitting at my desk!! I am being so sick, I can only keep the odd thing down. I have never felt so exhausted in my intire life and I am so tearful today.

I raise my glass of water to all those who have other kids to look after ~ I don't know how you do it coz I am just a mess and am leaning on hubby for everything!!! I can't do anything for myself, I throw up if I bend up and down to much or stand for too long~the sick feeling is constant and I just want to cry all the time which is a bit difficult when no-one is meant to know.

Sorry for the moaning - hope everyone else is doing ok!! I know I shouldn't complain but I can't help it! Love to all!x

george32 · 03/05/2005 10:20

Hi all,
DQ, you poor thing. Your m/s sounds dreadful. .
Minnie, LOL @ your boss suspecting a hangover!!! Bet he had a shock!
Sweetheart, nothing fits me either but I'm finding it a great excuse to buy more clothes!!
Nemo, I'm with you on the stressing. Terrible isn't it. But remember, there is no reason why anything should go wrong this time and we are so lucky to have made it to this stage. The other girls on the TTC thread would do anything to get here. I try to think myself lucky that at least I know I can conceive even if the rest is still unknown. Keep your chin up Mishi, we will get through it .
I've just phoned up my hospital to book in for the early scan, to get some re-assurance, & they were horrid. An unpleasant lady said "oh they probably won't see you til 10 weeks as they won't see anything much before then". I felt like screaming at her, as I don't care what I see as long as there is something there, that is the whole point. Probably being a bit over-sensitive but came off the phone & burst into tears. Have found the local private scans & am booking with them instead. They are £60 per scan but probably much nicer than the horrid people at the hospital. Why do they put uncaring, cows on a reception desk. It's not like people go for early scans for a laugh is it.
(Feel better for my rant )

MINNIE1 · 03/05/2005 11:10

kangel,

Sending you a bug huge ((((((((()))))))))) You poor thing. Try a dry biscuit like a cracker if you can.

george32,
Silly people, Hope your ok? Have you a date for your private scan? I would do the same if i was you its worth every penny.

Feeling fine boobs are getting sore, bloated in the evening and that is about it. Feel tired yawning like mad but not very tired. hope to get a letter from the hosptial this week fingers crossed it will be a scan date.

backpacker · 03/05/2005 11:22

Hi guys

Thanks for your messages. Nemo - I hope you're feeling better today- the scan sounds like a good idea to put your mind at rest.

Thanks for the advice DQ - how do you get the baby dated - is that by scan? Was planning on going to a hospital at eight weeks and trying to get them to have look.

Don't know how NTY, DQ and the others are managing not to tell people. If i was in the UK I think every one would know by now. I not drinking would tip people off for starters but I'm also totally obsessed. does anyone else have the feeling that time is standing still. DQ - will you own up if your sister susses you out?

I've already got dp carrying the bags. Didn't have m/s uptil today and was feeling smug but also a bit worried. today seeing dp make scrambled eggs with olive oil set me off and I've felt queasy since - probably feel that way not pregnant though!

Clothes are getting bit tighter round the waist but its my boobs that are really impressive - pamela anderson eat your heart out.

kangel · 03/05/2005 11:57

Minnie1 ~ Thanks for the hug God do I need it. i think today is the worst I've felt so far! Just had my head down the loo again, very difficult trying to control it in the office!! Have tried Rich Tea and Ginger nuts which didn't work, I am currently sucking on a mint, if anything it will take the taste away.

DQ ~ Your not alone in the sick department, will try the nuts before bed as it kills to be sick first thing in the morning with an empty stomach! I didn't think we were aloud to eat nuts????????????

Backpacker ~ LOL Pamela Anderson!! I know how you feel, people are even commenting on my growth spurt!
