Nemo - I think melon is ok, it's the bags of lettuce that they say to avoid. I think that's quite new, as I don't remember it being banned when I had ds 3 and a half years ago.

They also seem to have dropped the alcohol thing from 1 or 2 glasses of wine, once or twice a week, to nothing at all, ever. Oh well - I'm still going to have champagne for the toast at the wedding we're going to soon, can't see that one glass will do any harm to this one when sticking to the guidelines as they were last time didn't hurt ds.

Actually I like the French guidelines about what you can eat much better than the British ones. I'll try to find a link to them in a bit.

Lunarsea - I had pasteurised brie during my last pregnancy and didn't think it tasted as nice. Plus trying to find somewhere that sold it was nearly impossible - especially with those 16 year olds behind the cheese counter saying "whats pasteurised"!!!!!

Prepacked salad is ok so long as you wash it isn't it - I thought it was just to get the pestersides off of it.

I got told off by a friend for eating mayonnaise the other day. The thing I'm most annoyed about is the Mr Whippy ice creams - isn't it because of all the bacteria around the nozzle that despenses the uce cream, oh how I'd love a Mr Whippy!!!!

Article (by Aloha) about what you're allowed to eat in different countries is here

sweetheart - shop bought mayonnaise is ok too as it's made with pasteurised eggs. It's just home made that's potentially off limits (although it is apparently possible to buy pasteurised eggs if you want to make your own I can't say I can ever recall seeing them for sale).

sweetheart · 17/05/2005 15:24

lunar - the mayonnaise was in a pot in a pub. Don't know if it was ok or not and my friend said it could have been sitting out for a while.

She also stole my brie off my cheese and ham ploughmans and coughed on it so I couldn't eat it

She's such a bitch

Have jsut realised that in the last week I've had a tuna steak, AND canned tuna in a sandwich. Which is also against the rules ("no more than two cans or one fresh tuna steak per week")!

sweetheart · 17/05/2005 15:34

Thats a brilliant article - very informative.

The only things I really adhere to are:-

No pate, soft cheese or blue veined cheese
No peanuts (but all other nuts)
Alcohol in moderation - tend to stick to one drink every couple of weeks in the first 12 weeks then a couple of drinks a week between weeks 12 and 40
Limit my tuna to one or two sandwiches a week
Stopped smoking (not that I smoked very often anyway)

Thats about it - but I have to say that after 12 weeks if I fancies a bit of pate of brie I would probably go ahead and eat it.

I've got it all planned. After delivery, DH is to bring me a prawn curry from my fav Balti house and a bottle of champers.

I'm gonna eat shellfish, and nuts, drink red wine and Avoccat for Christmas, scoff Caesar salad, sit in jacuzzis, go running, and not wear a bra.

sweetheart · 17/05/2005 15:39

lol expat - that sounds great.

Mine would be:-

pate on toast for a starter, followed by a brie baguette and a Mr Whippy ice cream for pudding.
A bottle of wine and a lovely sauna.
Followed by a big glass of Baileys for a nightcap before retiring for an evening of - well you can guess that bit

Needless to say my sex drive is in the toilet at the moment!!!

LOL @ you guys dreaming of food you can't have!!
Have been a bit naughty and eaten a bit of feta cheese - amazing how nice it tastes once you realise you shouldn't have it!!
Keep eating loads & loads to take the icky feeling away. Not working today though, now feel sick because I've eaten too much.

I do hope Minnie is getting on OK.

sweetheart · 17/05/2005 15:48

oh crikey - Minnie. It's been an awfully long time hasn't it - do you think she's OK??? Wasn't her appointment this morning?

OP posts:
george32 · 17/05/2005 15:56

I think it was at about 1.45pm or early afternoon sometime.
Maybe she hasn't got to a computer yet.

dramaqueen72 · 17/05/2005 16:26

thankfully most cheese is already pasturised. esp english goats cheese -thank god!- because i love the stuff.
last pg i LIVED on tuna. literally all i could eat. and dd2 is not only fine but very forward, could be all that fish oil!
some thing make more sense -such as extra washing of salads, no coslaw or sim thats been sat around, other things I just dont believe. they have changed the lsit SO much since pg with my first, including added back some things i avoided. peanut butter for example is ENCOURAGED in USA and yet frowned upon here. its really hard to follow some things isnt it? dont forget some of them are still a no no when breastfeeding, SIGH> curries for example will give you (or did me anyhow) a very windy cranky baby who screams all that night. its abit like becoming a nun of the food world isnt it?

expatinscotland · 17/05/2005 16:27

Don't think I'm going to bf, DQ, so the world is my oyster! Bring on the curries. Chicken madras, here I come!

george32 · 17/05/2005 16:32

DQ, how are you getting on with the ironing?

dramaqueen72 · 17/05/2005 16:33

who linked us to that good site with lists of okay foods awhile back? it was great.i printed some of it off, its reassuring to see so many okay cheeses

dramaqueen72 · 17/05/2005 16:33

george rang ironing company!

sweetheart · 17/05/2005 16:38

Oh blimey - hadn't even thought about bf'ing - what foods can't you have then?????

expat - did you bf your dd??

I'm in two minds about bf'ing. I did it a bit with my dd - combined breast and bottle. I found it very painful and didn't really enjoy it. I'd like to give it another go this time but wouldn't feel so awful about giving it up - I cried last time round, felt like a failed mother!!!

I was s'posed to be keeping it quiet til the scan .. well ha blooming ha

MINNIE1 · 17/05/2005 17:17

I'm back
ALL IS OK, MY BEAN IS BEATING...

Sorry it has taken so long but we stopped for something to eat, All is ok i could see our bean externaly didnt need an internal (thank god) The doctor did a hormone blood test and if there low i will be going on hormone injections. Then i had my scan and OMG i could see it stright away it was so weird, But its hanging in there. I am going back in 4 weeks for another check up, the doctor is lovely (man doctor) Well he would want to be at the price of him, but we dont mind that. I was in and out in less the 2 hours compaired to 8 hours when i m/c.

I am over the moon and i hope the bean stays beating. I even have a little picture.

beckymumof3 · 17/05/2005 17:20

Well, with the sunny weather I have had about 3 Mr Whippy ice-creams in the last few weeks - is the problem really bacteria round the nozzle? God, you probably shouldn't eat anywhere then!

Can't stand Brie/mouldy cheese etc so am alright there. A friend of mine whipped a tub of home made mayo out of my way the other day but thats been about it. Like you say, the rules change all the time so I wonder how accurate they really are.

I think WRT BFing - anything goes really (I think) - but some people realise certain foods irritate the baby and so avoid them. (Though alcohol is prob. still advised to limit). I am hoping to BF this time (my record so far is 3.5 months) and will try to get support from BF counsellors and might try la leche league as realise was lacking in 'knowledgeable' support before. Anyone been to LLL meetings? What are they like?

Tip for feeling your 'growing' uterus - feel for it after an orgasm as it goes hard for a while and is easier to feel

I hope Minnie is Ok too - any news??

beckymumof3 · 17/05/2005 17:20

Such a long post that I cross posted - Congrats Minnie. Thats excellent news!

MINNIE1 · 17/05/2005 17:26

Thank you all for thinking of me, I am off to bed for a lie down with my beating bean, lol
What a weight of my mind (until the next one!)

Chickpea · 17/05/2005 17:30

Hello all,
I'm new to this thread and I want to say Hello darlings but a particular HI!! to DQ as I was on the due in August thread with you too before things went wrong. I only had one cycle before I fell again and I am due on Dec 8th. That makes me 11 weeks today and I have managed so far not to think about it too much. Quite nervous as you would expect having had 3 m/c before but I had a dd - Martha after two mcs ((she was born last July) yes I know I pack em in)) so I am trying to stay optimistic!!
anyway where do I go to see all of your stats. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
congrats to you all - particularly those first timers (this will be my fourth baby) - well I did say I pack em in!!

love to all of you
