there's loads of nice floaty stuff
mixture of tops a good idea, get those ones that have a line just below your boobs and then go out, crinkle cotton etc
or dare I suggest khaftans, there was a feature in Sunday Times on how to make them, you can get great fabric and then make up 2 or 3

sweetheart · 16/05/2005 12:19

sorry to be thick but what are kaftans????

ninah · 16/05/2005 12:22

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 13:25

Minnie, quote from Expecting, everything you need to know about pregnancy labour and birth (excellent book): "Shingles does not cause problems for a developing baby if the mother develops the illness in pregnancy". However, your dp has it, and shingles is not catching so you should be fine.

ninah · 16/05/2005 13:25

omg i killed an ante-natal thread!

ninah · 16/05/2005 13:25

PHEWW!

dramaqueen72 · 16/05/2005 13:27

babygibbon, yes if you are totally unsure of dates it should indeed forward your scan. you might have to lay it on abit thick about HOW unsure you are of dates tho, as 'extra' scans are like golddust!!
s/h is this your first baby? i can never remember whos on what number.I think it must be as youare unsure of maternity clothes fitting around 18wks! my goodness I'm usually looking about 24+wks by then as i always carry babies big and in lots of water and obviously the more you have the further you sag next time! I'll say maternity clothes will fit by then! good idea with mixing and matching. those floaty tunic tops are nice and alot about lately. and very forgiving!
nemo, silly, of course you should join in with tummy measuring. betcha dont realise the size and shape of all of us! and never mind the shape we will end up! I'm sorry youre worrying again. i know the feeling. the on/off tummy pains have me worrying to, i personally think my kidneys are grumbling about lack of liquid (too much to drink/water/juice makes me MORE sick, so i havent been drinking much)but i wonder if its something else. ugh. awful early weeks. I feel so rough today, horrible time walking around m&s food hall trying not to gag at everything. cant believe how long its been since i ate chocolate! i normally LIVE on the stuff!
minnie what did the dr say? I'm terrfied of getting something, like hand foot and mouth, so i hope you get reassurance soon.
seems most of us are counting down til next scan. mines june 6th. feels like forever!

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 13:30

Also from 'Expecting': "Hives don't cause any long term problems, or effect the baby". So you should be OK on both counts!

MINNIE1 · 16/05/2005 13:49

I am calling in to the nurse this evening to collect my bloods results for the hospital tomor and i will ask her then as there are to mant praying ears here!!! I don't want anyone in the office to know yet. The nurse is a lovely lady and she said if there were any problems to contact her.
Please pray that all will be ok.

sweetheart · 16/05/2005 14:11

DQ, this isn't my first pregnancy.

I've got a dd who is nearly 5 and also had a missed m/c earlier this year. With my dd I didn't show until I was about 6 months gone and was only in maternity clothes for the last couple of months.

With my last pregnancy and this one I am showing much earlier but I normally only get big towards the end of the day and so far have managed to stay in my normal clothes. Alot of my maternity stuff has big pouches to fill and I can't see myself fitting into it for ages.

However - I have found a couple of dresses which I like
here

and here

and this one

I've also found some others - so I'm spoiled for choice now.
Plus I can fit into normal clothes too - I can always buy a size bigger!!!

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 14:15

Hi minnie, did you read my posts? I don't think there is anything to worry about.

MINNIE1 · 16/05/2005 14:19

beckymumof3,
I have its just i am terrified that i will m/c and the scan tomor is making me more nervous.

dramaqueen72 · 16/05/2005 14:43

try and relax minnie, beckys right that book is fab for advice.
s/h like the last one you linked. i also like the wraparound maternity stuff (ala isabella oliver sort of thing) as you can wrap it tight as you want, brilliant for early and post pg! and you look fab in it too, rather than swamped by those 'full' maternity things.
sorry i couldnt remember how many children you have. pg brain, cant remember own name most times nowdays.

sweetheart · 16/05/2005 14:50

dq, no worries - I know what it's like not being able to remember things - hence the reason I have the stats on my computer, I'm a cheat

OP posts:
beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 15:40

On the topic of maternity clothes - I can't believe how large I feel (definately not baby - I have tried to palpate uturus and still can't feel it) but everything is too tight. I'm not eating loads of crap so can't believe that i'm getting big so quick. This never happened before...is it an age thing (I am now at the ripe old age of 29 ).. I feel like a right whale. DH is making all the right noises but I will be so embarrassed if I need to wear maternity clothes when I'm only 9 or 10 weeks pg!

Minnie, hope the scan goes well - try not to worry.

I am about to book my next antenatal course - the first one I have taught as a pg woman - its going to be soooo wierd!

babygibbon · 16/05/2005 15:47

Thanks DQ. I've just gone ahead and booked a private nuchal fold scan anyway. I don't know about my dates, I know the date of my last period, but it was my first since DD was born, so whether everything's regular, I have no idea. Anyway, nuchal fold booked for 7th June (nearly 12 weeks by my reckoning), and I'm sure they'll tell me there if it's too early (it has to be done after 11+2). £93, not bad, looking at prices others have been charged.

dramaqueen72 · 16/05/2005 16:00

ah becky, thats me then. i can feel uterus, its above pubic bone now, and i am wearing my seraphine jeans nwo that said i guess they are abit different as 'made' for months 1-9 (ie that new stuff thats for the overlap either side of maternity basics) well silly to force myself into stuff that wont do up,
on my scan the nurse said 'here (indicates entire screen) is your womb and here is the. tiny baby........' she reckoned my uterus knew what it was doing and growing ahead of itself.presonally i think thats her nice way of saying YOU HAVE NO TUMMY MUSCLES GIRL! pmsl! i dont care, i show early did with my first will with my last, i carry large (i always get to the point of threatening to thump people who make the 'are you sure its not twins' crappy joke)and i get my moneys worth outa my maternity stuff are you teaching maternity classes? ooo impressive.....
baby gibbon, good luck with that scan. sounds good

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 16:09

When I was pg the second time there was a student Dr in when I had my first appt and my Dr said (and I quote) "OMG you have absolutely no stomach tone". Thanks a bunch.

dramaqueen72 · 16/05/2005 16:11

LOL becky, the dr who saw me for ds (my first) actually called in his students to look at my 'severe' stretchmarks..I have never quite recovered my self image after that!

sweetheart · 16/05/2005 16:17

lol at stomach tone and stretch marks - I feel sorry for you guys now!!!

I have been able to feel my uterus for about a week now (at least I think that's what it is) I got dh to feel it the other night and he freeked out - uurrgghh you've got a lump in your stomach. He only got a brief touch - I wanted him to have a proper feel but he wasn't having any of it - Men hey

OP posts:
beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 16:54

Yeah, I won't even go their on any discussions with stretchmarks...oh alright, I will. No.1 I was free of any marks til about 36-37 wks when they appeared from the belly button down. No.2 above the belly button & bottom & boobs. No.3 I thought there is nowhere they could appear but I ended up with them all over upper thighs (looked like a pair of stretchmark shorts). I'm just waiting this time (Probably have them all over my face or something).

I end up with pretty massive bumps as well DQ but keep relatively skinny legs so just look ridiculous

Yes, I do teach antenatal classes (not really that impressive though ) and am particularly looking forward to teaching when I am in my 3rd trimester too. Though not looking forward to lugging half a tonne of stuff in and out of my car.

dramaqueen72 · 16/05/2005 18:06

oh maybe you can advise me then, would like to go to something, even if just to be social, but feel really stupid going after more than one, -everyone looks at you as if to say 'dont you know it now?' what would you say?
maybe you can run an online virtual one
my stretch marks are massive like war wounds all across my belly from belly button down. ugh. bikinis? i DONt think so!! dh very sweet says they are 'marks of a real woman...' bless.

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 18:13

I don't know where you are DQ but most areas have 'refresher' courses - for parents with at least one child already. BTW am an NCT antenatal teacher so only really know about NCT courses - the NHS ones round here don't exist

Also a lot of courses tend to have at least one couple who already have a child and all my courses are dead friendly - they would probably just pump you for info because I have to be totally impartial [angelic emoticon] and not divulge my own opinions/experiences! Its a bit hard to do card sorting/bonding exercises online but I could try...

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 18:14

p.s. All us teachers know that one of the main reasons people attend antenatal classes is to meet other parents so we nurture the group to try to get that to happen.

beckymumof3 · 16/05/2005 18:16

And if anyone did say 'don't you know it all now' you could just say everythings changed since you had your last baby/ you want to know more about your options etc etc blah blah. Just blag it.
