Well here it is and I think we all deserve a huge CONGRATULATIONS for making it onto the 2nd thread.

The last thread lasted us a month and a half so here to one thread down and 5 to go!!!

YIPPEE so excited!!!

I've also noticed the Due in Jan thread has 10 posts on it now so we are officially not the newbies anymore YEAH !!!!

Just add all the percentages that apply to you together and then divide the figure you get by the amount of figures you have added together
Eg
10%, 5%, 5% =

20 (divide that by three)

gives you 6.6%

Your right - it's too early for maths - and I'm probably making it up as I go along!!!

Sorry, shall I put the stat another way........once the heartbeat is seen we have over a 95% chance of everything going perfectly. Sounds much better!!

sweetheart · 13/05/2005 09:13

I'd like to know what the statistics are for having more then 1 m/c.

OP posts:
dramaqueen72 · 13/05/2005 09:17

well I was told, and have read, unless they find a particular 'personal' cause for your m/c (something they usually dont look for til after 3 anyhow ) you have just the same GOOD chance as a person whos never had a m/c.
theres a site with it all on somewhere......but my pg brain has turned to absolutely mush and i cant remember where....
and it seriously drops after a good scan with fast heartbeat and baby correct size for dates.

dramaqueen72 · 13/05/2005 09:18

sorry s/h that wasnt clear was it,- even up to three m/c i was told this by a dr,....

george32 · 13/05/2005 09:19

I've read the same DQ.

Just want to apologise to the ladies on here who have never been through any problems with p/g before!! I know we are all a bit obsessed at the moment, I promise we will chill a bit once we hit the 12 or 20 wk stage!!

scully · 13/05/2005 09:28

Definitely too early for mathes, i'm still stuggling with tea and toast, at my desk, reading your messages
Very happy it's Friday, first 5 day week I've worked in a while and it's been far too long!

sweetheart · 13/05/2005 09:33

Oh well, I'm sure there must be loads of statistics out there - and as someone once said

"62% of all statistics are made up"

Yes, sorry for going on and on about risk and worries. This must be a really sepressing place to be for all the first timers. If it's any consulation my 1st pregnancy was fine and I never even thought about miscarriages.

BTW, has anyone else relised it's Friday 13th today - I've only just noticed.

Glad I had my scan yesterday then & not today!!!

ninah · 13/05/2005 09:37

LunarSea
I wouldn't sponsor you!
Ohh dear ...
still you will make the others feel SOO good (until you tell them!)

LunarSea · 13/05/2005 09:43

sh - putting my statisticians hat on, I don't think it's that simple when it comes to probabilities of different things. You'd have to add the probabilities together (10% + 5%) and then deduct the overlap (i.e. the probability that event A - the miscarriage - and event B - the heart defect - happened together, or that B caused A IYSWIM). So it would be somewhere between 10% and 15%, but don't know exactly what.

I think I'm going to have to agree to this slimathon thing, but say that as I lost a lot last year it's actually going to be pretty difficult for me to lose any more, so I have an excuse ready when I don't! I'll probably own up at work once we get past the point of scans/test results (so about another month) anyway, as we'll have to train someone to do my job, which will take a while, and it'll probably be visible by then anyway!

LunarSea · 13/05/2005 09:45

ninah - you could sponsor me, knowing full well that I'd probably end up paying you instead!

sweetheart · 13/05/2005 09:48

yes LunarSea you are right - and in my case at least - B did cause A so I'm sure that blows my theory right out the water

Good job I don't get paid to work out statistics hey!!!

OP posts:
scully · 13/05/2005 09:48

We should all sponsor you then, lunar!

MINNIE1 · 13/05/2005 11:22

george32,
Great news on your scan, Hope i get to see the beanie heart beat.

Hope all is well with everyone?

Bonkerz · 13/05/2005 12:37

ok i had my scan his morning and there was strong flutter of a heartbeat. Am relieved but know im not out of the woods yet. Got a photo and you can see a tiny curled up bean!! Doc says baby only measures 6+2 but my sac measured 6 weeks last wedneday so i should be 7+2 today. Midwife explained that baby is curled up and its too hard to measure at this stage. Am going back at 10 weeks for a re scan and then again at 12 so im being looked after this time.
Midwife did say all looks great because last wed there was no baby and this week the baby is the size my sac was last week!!
Am glad i have a piccie, relief really is all im feeling and am still abit apprehensive but im going to be positive from now on. Chin up!!

hereshoping · 13/05/2005 12:45

Right Im going to be brave and join this thread
Sorry to first timers but Im another neurotic refugee frm the August thread
Im pg for the 6th time, ds1 is 8, ds2 is 6 and dd is almost 4. Had a missed mc in Aug O4 and another one Jan 05 - both picked up at booking scans at 12 wks which was traumatic
i managed to get into epu on Tues this week and saw a heartbeat, rightsize at 6+3 but a tiny bleed beside the sac so Im being rescanned on 26 may
Great to see such good news so far from everyone
Really frightened about joining this thread as still cant help torturing myself and peeking at the due in August one!

Nemo1977 · 13/05/2005 12:46

yayy bonkerz congrates on ur beans little heart beating... I wouldnt worry too much about sizing as wiht ds it was always up n down and his edd was changed 4 times..pmsl

sweetheart · 13/05/2005 13:11

herehoping - there's always room for another refugee

I know what you mean about peaking at the August thread. I am always looking on the June thread and actually still keep in contact with a couple of people from it.It is hard sometimes but they have all been so lovely and supportive and I just want to see how they are all doing.

I think you are very brave going for your fourth!!! I'd love to keep having kids but I don't think I have enough patients!!!!

Anyway, what is your edd so I can put you on our list.
