sh, I know where DFS is at Farnborough! Have got with my Surrey A-Z in the past year!
Definitely not feeling like tuna lately.....a Boots sandwich, McD's fries and a yoghurt, such a balance meal
Nuchal fold scan is between 10-14 wks, but not all areas offer it on the NHS.....

sweetheart · 11/05/2005 14:52

There is a huge play area called Wizzy World very close to DFS - and they also have one in the sports center which is just across the road. There is another one called Run About (more suitable for young children) if you follow the road from DFS to Fleet. It just off of a large round about.

well im back and im going to be a mummy of 2

I saw baby couldnt see hb but ultrasound woman said it was there...they also did my booking in and bloods etc hence being so long. Only annoying thing is that now they dont do another scan till 20 weeks. But i can live with that just relieved to know there was a heartbeat. Whole feeling was sooo different compared to last time.

sweetheart · 11/05/2005 15:04

YEAH Thats bloody fantastic news Nemo - ohhhhhh congrats honey.

best wishes for a happy healthy rest of your pg.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2005 15:13

Our NHS doesn't offer nuchal fold scans. Even if you're over 35. You have to pay privately for them. As it is, we paid privately for a simple dating scan.

The scan I'm being offered is a 'booking in' one on 15 June. Well into the 2nd trimester. Stupid. The time to catch abnormalities is late in the 1st trimester, with nuchal fold and CVS if necessary. Of course, those tests are costly.

The AFP or 'triple-test' is an outdated blood test used to assess (poorly) risk for Down's or spina bifida. It's given in about the 16th week. No, thanks. I declined it last time b/c it's a statistically poor test and will decline it again this time.

Nemo1977 · 11/05/2005 15:14

expat we dont have nuchal fld one either just normal booking in.

scully · 11/05/2005 15:20

Great news Nemo, you must be relieved! Have heard of quite a few areas that don't routinely offer nuchal scans - ridiculous. I didn't even realise that until this time around, just thought it was standard for everyone last time.
Thx sh, I will have to check them out, especially for early next year on the days dd isn't at nursery and I'm not coping with 2

george32 · 11/05/2005 15:22

Nemo, that is fantastic news. SOOOOOOoooooooooo pleased for you

Did you have an internal or external scan?

Very nervous about my own tomorrow now.

Nemo1977 · 11/05/2005 15:26

it was external so was surprised they could see anything...lol

YOur scan will be ab tommorow george..i know its easy for me to sya now..lol

sweetheart · 11/05/2005 15:27

just out of curiosity - open to everyone, do you feel a neucal fold test is required?? Would the results of the test change the outcome??

It's a bit of a topical debate I suppose. I think for us personally if we didn't have dd it wouldn't matter what the result of the test was we would still have gone ahead with the pregnancy. Now however I'm not sure it would be fair on our dd to bring another child into the family knowing it would have such special needs.

OK, feel free to lynch me now!!!!

SH runs and ducks for cover!!!!!

Nemo1977 · 11/05/2005 15:30

Sh i think its a personal choice.
We dont have any of the tests mainly because i want this baby so much that for whatever amount of time or whatever impairment it was to have we wouldnt change it..but thats us. We had not tests with DS either and are sort of the mind set things happen for a reason no matter how difficult they may be.

beckymumof3 · 11/05/2005 15:35

I choose not to have the tests either purely because I wouldn't get rid of the baby so there is no point doing the tests.

Although my nephew has Downs Syndrome and I was surprised that my brother and his dp would have CVS next time - just so they would know and be able to prepare in advance.

MINNIE1 · 11/05/2005 15:48

nemo,
great news about the scan

dramaqueen72 · 11/05/2005 16:20

nemo, great news about your scan, good luck for yours tomorrow george!
my LOVELY dh bought me some seraphine jeans as a surprise! I love that man! they are FAB!
kangel, the sickness meds vary in effectiveness. they are ALL safe, drs REALLY dont want to get sued by you for harming your baby so they do know whats safe, trust them, I also researched several on the internet -knowing that I would find as many minuses as pluses as you know what the internet is like. however i didnt find many 'bad reports' on any of them.
mine help but dont fix it, I take it first thing (AFTER throwing up once because i know my bbody wont settle with that first queasy feeling until it does!)and then it really helps me not throw up throughout the day. by the end of the evening i am usually feeling rough again, i could take up to three a day but take only one/two. if life is so bad you are losing wweight, not keeping any food down you could be doing yourself and maybe little bean harm, they will take you straight into hospital if they think that and whack you on both antisickness meds and a drip. so I hope youre able to keep some meal down at some point? let us know how you get on. dont feel bad for taking the meds, after all if you had broke your arm youd take pain killers so why carry on being this sick and not helping yourself? ((hugs)) because nobody understands how CRAP severe sickness is unless they get it too.

expat, here the NHS give you one scan at 20wks. they do heart and lungs checks then. the 12wk scan was phase out in many places due to cost! which seems so very wrong!
I suppose I am lucky to get these two scans before the 20wk one, altho obviously had to go thro m/c twice to get them this time.
well wish me luck, have a family birthday meal tonight, LORD knows hwo I will get thro it without anyone guessing or without looking too green at the food........... it toook all morning to find a new top to fit and NOt make me look obviously pg!

Bonkerz · 11/05/2005 17:43

Hi all, internet went down over weekend and only just got it fixed! Have tried to catch up with this thread but its so fast!!

Congratulations to all of you who have had positive scans. I have a second scan on friday but im not getting too excited cos ive lost my 2 babies at 7 and 8 weeks. I am 7 weeks today and still have the sore boobs and have been sick the past few morning but i also have a stonking cold so am unsure if im poorly or if i have morning sickness! Doctor has rang me today and told me that my blood tests were normal and has taken me off aspirin. I have a booking in appointment all being well on 23rd may.
I am hoping that the EPU will agree to scan me at 9 and 12 weeks just to help me as although i had a heartbeat at 7 weeks with my last baby it died at 8 weeks but i didnt find out till 12 weeks. Its so strained in my house. Dh is just not talking to me since scan last week and keeps moaning that im moody! We havened 'touched' since last monday and although i know its because hes scared it will cause a mc im getting more angry because he wont say that and just keeps making up excuses not to!

ok enough from me for now.

george32 · 11/05/2005 19:02

Hey everyone, hope you are all well this evening & not suffering too much.

SH, I'm not having any tests done either as I wouldn't change anything even if I found out something was wrong. I don't like to be too organised, I like to muddle through when things happen rather than planning.
Scully, my area doesn't offer any scans til 20 wks either. The nucheals are done privately if you want them. Terrible isn't it.

DQ, fantastic news about your jeans!! Now how would he know just which pair to get!! So they are worth getting then you think? Are they really big to start with or do they gradually expand as you get bigger (sorry, all new to me this maternity clothes lark!!). Shall I just get it over with and order a pair?

Hey Bonkerz, wondering where you had sloped off to. You are just a couple of days ahead of me. Have you dropped in on the TTC girls to let them know the news yet?
I'm sure things will calm down in the Bonkerz household once you have been for your scan on Friday. I know my DP is about as stressed as I am & Nemos DH was too. Good luck to you with the scan.

Roll on 12 weeks, or 16 weeks or should I say 20 to be on the safe side??

LunarSea · 11/05/2005 19:02

Here most people get a 12 week scan and a 20 week one. But there's no neuchal on the NHS, even if you're old enough to be high risk, so that has to be private. And if you let them know that you're defiantely going to have the private one, then you don't get the NHS 12 week one. I just kept quiet and was non-commital about it when I was asked, so with any luck I should get both! Have booked private neuchal scan for 8th June (had to sneak out of the office to book it 'cos I couldn't really talk about it on the phone in an open plan office!)- what's the betting NHS one turns out to be the same day?

It does seem to vary a lot what scans/tests you get where. One of our local hospitals does 12 + 20 week scans, two of the others do 12 week only. From what dq says some do 20 weeks only. There doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency does there?

ebbie22 · 11/05/2005 19:42

congratulations Nemo xxx You must be so relieved..How is everyone doing?Havent had a chance to read all thread..what have i missed in short?

beckymumof3 · 12/05/2005 07:48

I think the reason a lot of hosp's are not doing neuchal scans is because they are notoriously inaccurate - which threw up lots of false results - which meant more amnios (that were OK) which lets face it meant a cost implication for the trust.

IIRC they are so inaccurate because the date has to be very specific or it throws the whole test off -and unless you have had IVF then you could easily have the dates wrong by a few days. Shame they don't acknowledge this with the strict 'overdue' regimes imposed by a lot of hosp's. Sorry, just wittering now..

beckymumof3 · 12/05/2005 07:50

Also, VVV surprised to hear that some hospitals are not doing 20 wk scan. I think that most of the anomolies they look for cannot be picked up at 12 wks - so v. surprising

beckymumof3 · 12/05/2005 07:51

Although, agreeing to the Nuchal fold test is one way to get a 12-15 wk scan if they don't offer one otherwise!

Nemo1977 · 12/05/2005 08:23

morning all hope u are well....Im ok but couldnt sleep at all last night had all sorts of crap scenarios going through my mind..u know how it is...never happy hey..lol

Will be back on later when i feel a bit more human..

dramaqueen72 · 12/05/2005 08:29

morning ladies, trying desperately to distract myself from being sick again as ahve school run in a moment.ugh. hardly any sleep thanks to dd2 being upset most of the night...am walking (sick) zombie.
my sister guessed the second she saw me last night..oops. obviously not looking that good then! now feeling nervous something will go worng between here adn next scan. its ridiculous isnt it, the worry we all go thro here!
george, ah yes, dh knew about the jeans because i had been on and on about them. they are a fabulous design that fit me now, and look just like normal jeans rather than folds of soft demin and ugly stretchy pannel as per usual maternity jeans.......I dont know if they will fit me at eight months pg because most of the maternity clothes dont by then anyhow! but they will start across your tummy and then gradually settle slightly under your bump... am now working on getting the denim skirt in same design LOL! dh thought they were rather pricey and i think i may have to be eternally grateful [roll eyes]but never mind.
have a good morning ladies
