Hopefully this has worked?

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/05/2009 14:35

I could change my name to BeckyBendyBrain if that would help!

Ninjacat · 05/05/2009 14:37

I just noticed I call you BeckyBB too. How odd. Must be an alliteration thing.

LissyGlitter · 05/05/2009 14:57

I finally had communication from the midwives! I got a big thick envelope with a load of leaflets, two appointment letters and my antenatal notes booklet. I have a booking appointment at my house on the 14th and a hospital appointment (and scan!) on the 20th. It all seems a bit late, but at least stuff is moving along now.

Is anyone else badly constipated? I did a tiny amount last night after a lot of straining, but before that I hadn't been for five days, and that was just a small amount and there was five days before that. My back and stomach are really starting to ache and I'm sure it's making my sickness worse. I've had a spoonful of lactolose today, but it made me feel realy sick

Fruitpastels · 05/05/2009 15:11

I seem to be the opposite LissyGlitter. You need to drink lots of liquid to get things going. I think Fybogel is ok to take when pg, that may help to start you off. That's great news you're getting booked in to see the midwife and have your scan appt .

Koumak · 05/05/2009 15:12

Thanks ladies for the reassurance re our gas leak.
I called the midwife who sent me for scan at EPU just to be safe, to check the baby was ok. It was all fine. Very quick but saw a heartbeat and the little bean has grown to 8.1cm which was apparently spot on dates. So was very relieved. Dh left his mobile at home that day. You bet I gave him so much grief when I finally got home from the hospital!
Likely the gas is being looked at.
Have finally managed to unpack the last boxes at the weekend, now I just need to decide where to store everything! Disconnected since Friday likely but as from today at least have hot water and heating but no hob. Good thing we have high tech camping stove we now have sitting on the kitchen work top. We?ve been into the new flat for two weeks and now the en-suite is not functioning! What a joy!
Went to Warwick castle on Sunday it was lovely. Cold but lovely. Had a picnic and I ate about 5 helpings of Greek salad. Surprisingly didn?t feel ill at all after all that food. And packet of Haribos not so good?
Great news on the scans. Keep them coming. It?s getting really exciting now.
Sleeplessinthecity I am sure I have been able to feel the baby?s movements for few weeks now but I am a little further along (almost 15!). With my fist one I couldn?t work it out till week 20 I think!
Southernelle I bet you are having a boy! I think they are easier to tell so the sonographer is more confident at this stage. I will wait to find out from your next scan!
I am definitely finding out the sex. I think DH will be bit disappointed if it?s not a girl as he would like one of each (and be done with it?). Ds has already decided to call her Hannah!

Hi all,

Just popped in with another scan result. All is well and baby was very wriggly. Got lots of nice pictures including two little footprints. Have been given a new edd of 13th November so have updated the enormous list. Best wishes to all.

Should just add 2nd labour definitely easier and a lot quicker - hope I get to the hospital in time with this one! Also, though not the most pleasant experience I just kept thinking 'this time tomorrow it will all be over and I'll be holding my baby' and I was.

katster37 · 05/05/2009 17:44

Koumak fab news re the scan - and how jealous am I that you are almost 15 weeks?!?!

southernbelle wow, that is amazing that the sonographer could tell the sex at 12 weeks!! How exciting! Do you have a preference? The midwife today was asking me if I have a preference. Is it bad to secretly want one or the other do you think, or normal? I mean, obviously if you have 10 boys you might secretly think having a girl would be nice but if it's your first? I feel a bit naughty! Although DH has the same preference so maybe it's not just me!

LissyGlitter YES on the constipation front! It's awful isn't it. I find it can really ruin my day and also definitely make nausea worse. I know it's nothing you haven't heard before, but I do find a big bowl of sultana bran for breakfast helps, and making sure I eat wholemeal bread and 5 portions of fruit. Sorry, no mind-blowing advice though.

Has anyone else been told about / previously done pregnancy yoga? I really like the sound of it. You can do it round here from 14 weeks so think I might join. Although last time I attempted anything yoga/pilates-ey, my lack of suppleness was exposed to my humiliation!

Yep, def not going to work tomorrow. Feel really rough and even more sleepy than normal. I don't think it's bad if I can't take the anti-biotics - surely it's better I get better and rest than end up needing a week off next week.

hobnob57 · 05/05/2009 18:03

Man, what a busy day on here! Congrats, southernbelle and others who had scans today!!!

I had mine this morning and was bowled over to see a wee jumping bean in there. It was tucked up in a really squashy bit of the uterus - didn't look like there was much room in there - but the sonographer assured me there was more room elsewhere. It kept jerking around, like it was having an involuntary whole-body reflex reaction to something, so it took a while to get measurements. It's measuring 5 days bigger than I expects so my edd is now 6th Nov. I'm a bit about that, because I don't want to be finding myself being induced early (DD was 14 days late, induced).

I still can't engage with this pg, despite my pictures. Grrr MCs! I'm sure it'll hit me soon. My colleagues at work are wanting me to tell everyone on the staff and I just can't seem to understand why - Must Get Excited Soon.

Constipation - yes, definitely, especially my last pg. I have to say that the only thing that helped me out that time was a glass of prune juice a day (URGH). This time I suffered this weekend and I think it was because I had stopped eating dried apricots as a snack. I was certainly having enough weetabix, anyway! Last pg things got so bad at one point that I resorted to glycerin suppositories. No dignity in this pg lark! My mum swears by kiwis - she works in an old people's home and they are given a kiwi a day for the purposes of keeping regular

Pregnancy yoga - I went to this from 28 weeks last time and found it great. It was very relaxing after a hard day at work, and I learned loads about how to help labour with positioning, etc. Not that I was able to apply any of it whilst confined to a bed being monitored, but hey. I'll consider going again if pilates gets too much of a struggle. The best thing was that the teacher gave us herbal tea and homebakes at the end!

Keeping in shape - I'd love to go swimming, etc. but I had really bad SPD last time around and it has started already . If anyone has any tips on how to keep in shape without moving your legs in pg I'd be very glad to hear them!

Big hugs to you all.

hobnob57 · 05/05/2009 18:05

PS I didn't feel any flutters whilst I saw the bubba moving on the screen, but I definitely felt some afterwards - it probably went on an outing to the roomy bit!

southernbelle77 · 05/05/2009 18:06

roomac congratulations on another positive scan.

Was it hobnob that was also having a scan today? I hope all went well if it was. And to anyone else too.

kaster - I was suprised when the sonographer asked if I wanted to know what she thought it was! Would never have thought it was that possible but figure she must have been quite sure to even mention it! As far as having a preference, I don't really. It would be nice to have a boy as have a dd already, but if it is a girl I will be more than happy (as will dd as she DOES NOT LIKE BOYS!!). I'm not really holding onto to any sort of feeling from this scan as still feel it's slightly early! Still, it's nice to have the thought in my head and can start thinking about names!!

I've been feeling REALLY sick today. It's always just been nausea before, but today I've not really been able to eat because of the feeling. Really don't want any dinner tonight either and dh is away (had to go to scan on my own ) so might end up with cereal again!! I've also had stomach ache today. Think it's from the scan as they have to push quite hard to get past the excess weight !

southernbelle77 · 05/05/2009 18:07

Congratulations hobnob

ursigurke · 05/05/2009 18:12

LissyGlitter - for me, drinking a lot (of water) and having my daily muesli with oat flakes works quite well.
Katster - Sorry to hear about your ear and throat infection. I had a ear infection last year and learnt (well, through internet) that very often they do not give you antibiotics anymore because they only help in 50% of the cases (I forgot, bacteria or virus) and actually it only makes it go away a bit quicker. So if you can't take any, it only means that you have to suffer a day more but it doesn't have any bad effects.
And as I have regular problems with my throat, I can only recommend to drink a lot and very often (just a little bit every 15 minutes). It kind of cleans your throat and washes away all the bad stuff (not just in my mind, a friend of mine who is a pharmacist told me to do so, it is much more effective than any kind of Strepsils,...)And it shouldn't be too hot, I sometimes even prefer lukewarm or cool water.
So just stay at home, drink a lot and try to get lots of VitC.

ursigurke · 05/05/2009 18:23

Congratulations on all those very positive scan results today!!!!
Katster - forgot to say, I think it is normal to have a little preference (I changed mine from girl to boy for some reason) and I am sure we are all very happy whatever it is and think it is the best and most perfect baby ever.
Koumak - I always wanted to call my first daughter Hannah, its's a beautiful name. But one of my cousins just got a Johanna and I recently found out that my MIL's second and third names are Johanna Anna. That is definitely too close. I don't want her to think we chose the name because of her (we already had name issues because I didn't take my husband's name which is still very unusual in Austrian countryside) and then we would need to use all the names of all the grandparents but I want my child to have its own individual name.

BeckyBendyLegs · 05/05/2009 19:15

Last few days suffered from horrible acid indigestion . I had this really bad with DSs 1 and 2. Anyone else suffering? I've just had a gaviscon tablet. The nausea has gone to be replaced by this!

ldeeanna · 05/05/2009 19:16

Hello!! Really pleased everyones scans have been good!! Im another one!! Had a lovely scan today-my baby was doing a handstand when I first saw it!! I've got a picture of him waving too!!!
The lady said she wouldn't be able to tell the sex this early-liar!!!! Southernbells one did!!!
I was a maniac while waiting this morning-convinced I was on the wrong bus, bus was too slow, then in the wrong waiting room!!
So pleased-been telling everyone now-is it too early-too late now anyway!
Feel much more relaxed!!

Aaaw Becky BL (or should that be BeckyBB ) indigestion is horrid. Hope you're OK.

Ideanna yay for another great scan!

I can't stop worrying about mine on Friday.... Did you all get the nuchal fold / downs statistics at the actual scan or do they come later on?

Grrr. was feeling so well today, and DH cooked my favourite rump steak in oystery-type sauce for tea. Unfortunately It wasn't ready until after 6pm, and although it went down very well it came straight back up again.

I'm just bowled over by my body's timetable this pg. No food is good food after 5:30p.m. (preferably 5:00), and contrary to my initial thoughts, evening nausea is just THERE, and not a result of not eating (no matter what I tried). I'm just wondering if I was SO sick last pg because I was never home in time to eat before 5:30, so just couldn't keep my calorie intake up? Does anyone know whether there's a diurnal pattern to embryo development - i.e. do things just get very 'busy' down there in the evenings so everything else must stop?

Also, anyone else finding their bladder seems to work overtime in the evenings? I'm sure it produces way more than I put in!

Enough inocuous questions....

ursigurke · 05/05/2009 20:50

hobnob - don't know about your evening rule, at least I don't have this problem. But I definitely have the same type of miracle bladder. I have to go to the loo I don't know how many times before I can finally sleep. And sometimes even every five minutes when normally I could be sure it has to be empty.
On the other side, I do appreciate that I do not have to go in the middle of the night. I'm usually able to sleep until 5am or even later.

katster37 · 05/05/2009 21:07

Thanks usigurke I will try the sipping water regularly and see if that helps. It does make sense. Also thanks Belgianbun - am willing to give most things a try! Your scan is on Friday as well, isn't it? Do you think you will have the amnio? The midwife was talking about it today. So many things I don't have a clue about!
Hobnob I'm not sure about diurnal patterns but I do know I always feel sick in the evenings and mornings, and am generally not too bad in the afternoons. I have heard this is a fairly common pattern so maybe there's something in it.
Nearly bedtime for me....

Tamlin · 05/05/2009 21:09

It's lovely to hear about all the good scans!Congrats, everyone.

Hobnob, I had spd last time around, and I'm still swimming but keeping my knees firmly pinned together. I'm sure it's giving me a very odd-looking stroke, but I feel as if my arms and shoulders are still getting a workout... I'm also doing a lot of wall-sits at the shallow end as my physio said that it could only help to strengthen those muscles.

Aside from the swimming, I'm not doing much exercise at all. Every time I go for a long walk, the bleeding starts up again and I head straight for the couch in a panic. Apparently all I get to do this pregnancy is eat constantly to stave off the nausea, and lie around - I really will look like an elephant seal...

katster37 · 05/05/2009 21:09

PS Belgianbun at swine flu down the road... You're not near Dulwich are you? We're a couple of minutes away and there are 6 cases there! All the more reason to stay indoors with this throat thing, methinks...

katster37 · 05/05/2009 21:12

Tamlin sorry to hear about the bleeding coming back when you exercise. Poor you. Enjoy lying on the settee and eating I have just had a rather tasty Double Decker... Yum!

ldeeanna · 05/05/2009 22:46

Relax Tamlin, must be scary, its a good reason to waited on hand and foot!
Good luk with scans to come, kaste and belgianbun!
Belgianbun If a baby has Downs Syndrome can you tell in a later scan or is it something you can only know with amnio and when it is born? Im worried (as usual) too about the high risk thing-im only 23 but she kept re-measuring his neck over and over and got quite funny when I asked her if the thickness was usual! I'll just have to wait and see! Going to have a break from worry!I hope you will be alright, its for peace of mind too isn't it so its a good thing!
