Laugs-poor you! And am feeling a watered down version of the same. Last night DS was up all night with raging fever and spent the morning at emergency with him as fever wouldn't budge. He's still v poorly and my scan is tomorrow. I can't even find the energy to eat dinner. I soooo hope he sleeps tonight. Yawn.

LissyGlitter · 17/05/2009 20:44

Laugs It is near Newcastle! It looks like we will be moving to Washington.

Ninjacat · 17/05/2009 20:56

Laugs I hope your DD is feeling better. My DS spent a lot of times in A&E on nebulisers when he was little. It's a horrible experience and I'm terrified about having to do it again with this one.

It scares me a lot that I will not be as protective of the new baby as I am of DS but maybe that's a good thing too because I'm defo on the borders of neurotic.

Thanks ursigurke and Kaster for your concern about DS. He broke it at his Martial Arts class. I had that dreaded "your sons hurt" call. He's still in a lot of pain tonight but we go back to the hospital tomorrow so will go from there.

Hope everyone's well.

Laugs · 17/05/2009 20:57

lissy we'll have to meet up! I've never been to Washington, but it's near Sunderland isn't it? I can get to Sunderland pretty easily on the metro.

Thanks Becky and turtle. I know I overreacted by being so upset by it all, but I am an emotional little soul these days. Hope your DS is feeling better by the morning Turtle. Is there someone who can mind him while you go for your scan? It's awful when they're ill, isn't it?

hobnob is there anything you are craving? I have been enjoying cream cheese, cucumber and spring onion sandwiches for lunch (it feels quite light, but isn't really IYSWIM). I'd like some recipes for evening meals when you really can't be arsed to do anything.

Ninjacat · 17/05/2009 20:58

Turtle Sorry to hear about your DS. Hope he feels better soon.

LissyGlitter · 17/05/2009 21:06

laugs yep, near sunderland. I'll be moving (to stay with inlaws while we get sorted-eek!) up at the end of the month, so we should arrange something for then.

Laugs · 17/05/2009 21:12

Ninjacat sorry about your DS. Is it his dominant hand?

Did his need for nebulisers get better then? DD had a similar incident (but probably worse) at the end of March, when she was put on nebulisers, x-rayed etc. We went to see a specialist a couple of weeks ago and he said DD didn't look to him like an asthmatic child, but to come back end of May to reassess. Now, 6 weeks later it's happened again. It seems like every time she's had a cold or virus (this time, hayfever), it goes straight to her chest. I don't know if it's just a coincidence and she will grow out of it, but I am asthmatic and she gets excema and hayfever, so I think it's quite likely she will be too.

I'm definitely quite neurotic about DD. I hope I'll be much more relaxed with no.2!

pavlovthesmugcat · 17/05/2009 21:15

laugs -I just discovered a great evening meal! (but be warned it could just be that I have been able to eat for the first time in a while, it might actually be vile!).

Frozen haddock fillets, seasoned with whatever seasoning you like on fish (currently for me, nothing at all!), wrapped in lightly oiled foil (like a parcel) and put in the oven for 20 mins.

Sainsburys Buttery Mash (£1 at the moment, so we have a few tubs of it!), in a bowl, cover in foil, in the oven for 20 mins.

Peas on the stove. if you can be bothered, chopped carrots/other vegetables.

If you can be arsed, parsley butter or similar to drizzle over/grated cheese on potato, dress it up or down as desired!

5 mins prep 30 mins cooking - A quick lazy pregnant woman's guide to cooking.

Obviously you wont that every day, but that is all I can come up with I am afraid

pavlovthesmugcat · 17/05/2009 21:15

Sorry - fish is 30 mins, not 20. Mash is 20. See, even that I fucked up!!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/05/2009 21:31

Every week or so I ask DH to roast me a chicken as I love to eat for tea a big lump of chicken, chunky chips and random veg. It is a real Atkin's Diet sort of meal but it seems to be the sort of thing I want to eat. The next night we have more chicken, mash and cauliflower cheese. Mash is also a good pregnancy thing, baked potatoes too.

grace09 · 17/05/2009 21:39

Just catching up on all the posts. I love how everyone is going through the same things. I was feeling so guilty about my maccy d cravings (had it for lunch and dinner one day last week but it was soooo good. Other than that i still can't stomach anything other than some form of potato, bread, beans, cheese, eggs. Still can't even be in the same room as fruit or veg without dry heaving. hobnob i'm sure you've tried it but what about beans on toast with some hp sauce? That's my fave lunch at the moment.

laugs - sorry to hear what a nightmare you had last week. Gave me a kick up the bum for constantly complaining how tired i am even though i'm managing a nap during the day and a full nights sleep. I'm a bridesmaid in July too and they've ordered my dress in a size 18 and i'm normally an 8!!! Although the rate i'm going with my weight gain i actually think i'm going to need it!

Got another scan tomorrow and have made a promise to myself that if everything is ok i am going to stop stressing i.e analysing every symptom/lack of symptoms, checking for blood everytime i go to the loo etc etc. I'm sure i'll find plenty of other things to start worrying about though!!

Good luck anyone else with scans this week!

Tamlin · 17/05/2009 21:54

I have a wedding in the South of France in late August, and I'm dreading having to buy a frock for it - I imagine that in the heat, I'll be as bloated as a dead sheep in high summer, and NOTHING will look good. I like the look of two of the Jo Jo Maman Bebe frocks, but wish they weren't sleeveless - I'm already getting chubby upper arms. Gah. This probably has something to do with my current penchant for bacon, and lots of it.

If there's any truth to the old wives' tales - craving sweets, it's a girl, craving meat and salty things, it's a boy - this one is definitely a boy.

Laugs · 17/05/2009 21:55

Oh no, Grace, I hope you don't need an 18 or there is no way I'll get into a 16! Is there any, umm, logic behind going for that size, or did you just get the biggest they had? I do quite fancy having mine fitted with stretchy side panels actually! It is a very fitted pencil skirt style dress, so even if it fits me there won't be much room for sitting, kicking etc! Not sure the bride would go for that though.

Hope your scan goes well tomorrow. I'm sure we're all overanalysing our symptoms at the moment. I was sure I'd felt the baby moving last week, and then I didn't feel it for a couple of days and that sent me into a huge panic.

I'm liking the recipe ideas. Unfortunately () I have just eaten two huge bowls of chocolate cake and ice cream, so I can't possibly think about food. Remind me, ladies, that if I am sick tonight I have only myself to blame!

Laugs · 17/05/2009 21:58

Tamiln, mine is in Italy. To make it worse, there are three other bridesmaids who are 2 x size 8, 1 size 6. So I would already be the porker of the lot without a huge belly. In fact, I'm hoping I can hide behind my bump...

grace09 · 17/05/2009 22:32

laugs i took my sister with me to the shop when she was 21 weeks which is around what i'll be for the wedding. They measured her bump and it equated to a size 18 waist so she thought best to order it in that size then alter the rest. sounds like you'll be fine though if you're getting stretchy panels. What a great idea - wish i/the shop had thought of that!! My wedding is in Italy too, in Siena - where abouts is yours? Tamlin - i'm fretting about the heat and subsequent bloating etc too. It will be BOILING!!

pinkfizzle · 17/05/2009 22:55

just popping in, I'm watching 27 dresses while trying to catch up - how funny this talk about weddings. congrats to all the scanners and yes I can add myself as a mac d desperado and I never normally go near the stuff!

laugs what a time you have had, lol to your dd.
Please don't guilt yourself by comparing experiences between your first born and the new bub. you want to be giving yourself a hug for having to deal with 2 hospitals back to back and hold it together what a trooper. they don't use sleep deprivation as a torture tactic for no reason, so no wonder you went home and had a good cry.

Big Congrats on your scan!

usigurke - the isabella oliver no that you have picked is gorgeous. the audrey maternity dress also looks awesome and jessica biel or some similar sounding holiday hottie wore it to her baby shower, I saw some pics and it looked fab.

hellips after reading your post I think that all pregant wedding guests should take a spare pair of flats, thankfully ballerina pumps can slip into bags and come in such a sparkly range of colours, well done for lasting til after midnight! also the best advice I got for my wedding was to wear in my shoes beforehand.

pavlov - sending you positive vibes, hope you get some respite. my ms has been dreadful but at least it is usually am only.

I can keep food down, food is a saviour, although it has a lot to do with why I am needing size 18 pants, which makes me feel pants!

take care all.

Tamlin · 18/05/2009 08:46

Oh my goodness, I'm definitely not wearing heels. Maybe if you're a veteran wearer of high heels... but otherwise, your centre of balance shifts so much that it's just a recipe for joint problems. Not to mention that I don't feel like a trip to a French A and E if I should fall due to said heels...

Thought I'd mostly got over the nausea, but wound up with my head down the toilet again last night, losing all of dinner. Ugh. Bacon coming back up tastes utterly revolting.

pedalmonster · 18/05/2009 08:53

Hi All
had scan on Friday and thankfully all is well - phew. Numbers fine too - just waiting for blood test results. Baby was just lying there motionless at first so bit of concern on my part - till she said "oh and there's babys little heart, beating away"... PHEW! After a bit of proding he started to do some bunny kicks so DH and I are much happier now! SO thats the good news.
Bad news is, that due to the stress of being at risk of redundancy now I have been really sick since Thursday night - basically since we found out. very vomity and nauseus. Definitely think it is stress releated.

OH that Isabella Olivier dress - I have it in Pink and it is gorgeous. I tried to get one from ebay and eventually the price was so high that it was neither here nor there so bought it brand new from their site. And have to say that when it arrived I felt really spoiled as their packaging is gorgous and pampered! If you CAN afford it, buy it new - you can always sell it on - it is a real treat! I also bought a bra and undies which is so comfortable it should be illegal!

ursigurke · 18/05/2009 09:31

Congratulations to the positive scan results!
pedalmonster - maybe you are right about buying the new dress. I'm normally not really into shopping but now, as I can't buy anything (I have a few trousers from slightly bigger days so I do not need any maternity staff for the next month or two, I think), I really want to have something nice and new and even better if it is in nice packaging. So maybe it is worth to buy and wear it more often. As it is rather simple, I suppose there will be other occasions. But since you have that dress, could you tell me if the the material looks good enough for a wedding with evening or cocktail dress required? (I suppose as pregnant woman I have a bit of excuse but they are planning their wedding for more than one year so I don't want to be a reason for any bad feelings or souvenirs)

Cies · 18/05/2009 09:33

Morning all!

Ohh, I'm at all this talk of weddings! I really want my SIL and her bf to get married, but it's just not happpening yet (they're being all responsible and not tying the knot until they both have a stable job). I am going to get a couple of dresses though for this summer. I normally don't wear dresses as my tummy sticks out quite a lot, but as I'll have a pregnant bump it'll look normal! My one chance for a nice floaty summer's dress

I've been feeling twinges down below for about a couple of weeks, but I'm pretty sure it's just the uterus stretching as I'm only 14 weeks with my first. I've got a midwife appointment on Thursday so I hope to be able to listen to the heartbeat again and check that all is ok.

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/05/2009 09:41

I want that dress now! I'd never heard of Isabella Oliver but browsing her website the clothes are gorgeous. Why do they have to be so pricey though? I've been working really hard: might treat myself

pinkfizzle · 18/05/2009 09:57

Hi all

www.fabsugar.com/1533612

hopefully this worked, and shows the pic of jessica alba (not biel) in isabella oliver.

Shopping wipes me out both physically and financially so I'm going to be a frugal online girl from now on.

pedalmonster congrats on the scan! sorry to hear about the redundancy risk, it must be very nerve wracking, but remember if you are pregnant then you some enhanced rights when it comes to the workforce, which can mean that if redundancy was to happen you can ask for more money or you get first refusal on a similar job in your coy. The acas helpline is there to use.

I took today as a holiday to rest up and just as well as I have been up since 4am, oh the joys of pregnancy, so I had better get offline. take care all.

sleeplessinthecity · 18/05/2009 10:02

All this talk of dresses reminds me of a wedding I had when pregnant with DD..was about 7 months and bought a beautiful strapless red dress. Someone said I looked like a tomato! never ever will i wear it again.. I have another in August (i will be huge) in Zaragoza and need a dress, thanks for all your tips..Isabella Oliver looks lovely! Am getting darker by the day so will opt for the greens and pinks..they are gorgeous. Please let me know if you've bought one and what you think!

Good news on all the scans..how exciting.!!

pedalmonster · 18/05/2009 10:11

ursigurke yes I wore it for a wedding, it was lovely - with a black pashmina and black low heel sparkly sandals. I had so many complements! It can be dressed up or down, the fabric is very comfortable and flattering.
I also loaned it to a friend for a x-mas party and she glammed it up with black leggings and a shawl.
pinkpizzle ooohh I have scanned the sites, and i think the laws have changed as you are not protected - unless you are still employed by 15 weeks prior to due date - even so all that means is that they still have to pay you your maternity pay.
But i have emailed HR to say it is causing me stress and not good for my pregnancy - and hope that my being preg will not prevent me from being considered for other roles. soooo now I have to wait and see, i guess!

BBL yes the IO clothes are gorgeous but expensive - I dont think any normal person can afford to get much from there, but if you do get something it really is a special treat. I remember when I bought my dress i had to forgoe my yoga for 6 weeks as a compromise - DH said it was too expensive otherwise (he is quite a bean counter!).

cies yes you will have pulling - and if you have had your appendix out you will prob feel pulling as the scar tissue stretches too. that had me rushed in to the day assessment unit last time, saw 3 MW then finally a consultant who took one look at my tummy and said "when did you have your appendix out?" LOL thats why they are the consultants I guess!
Tamlin I have not heard that theory before - but i am off chocolate (I know!! it has always been one of the 3 major food groups for me!)
At scan on Friday I asked about gender and she got a great view of bum with legs lifted (baby - not me!!) but said it was too early to tell. I think she just didnt want to committ.

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/05/2009 10:28

I think I'll have to be a bit more proactive and find some extra freelance work if I want any IL clothes... I might try to bid for the dress on ebay again for the wedding - there's another size 2/10 pink dress due to expire in 6 days.

I'm off chocolate too (still have the two Easter Eggs given to me at Easter).

Big hugs to those still feeling and being sick Tamlin poor you with the bacon

Pedalmonster I hope your HR dept can give you some support and reassurance. The threat of redundancy is horrible and very stressful. DH had this a few weeks ago before I was pregnant and I felt really sick until the threat had eased. They do say the economy is very slowly starting to pick up now at least. Hopefully we have better times ahead.
