Oh dear DD is shaking her fist, a sign she is about to move from her snuggly baby mode to what I call her 'crazed dictator mode' there goes my internet break.

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 18:33

We saw a 'pus' like substance on Meg's belly botton just under the umbi stump after about a week and a half, but it didn't run or anything, just looked pus-like until it dried up as someone suggested like scabbed knee... all was ok with her even though she had a slightly poked out belly-botton too.
2 weeks on and she's got a perfectly normal 'grown-up' belly botton now.

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 18:38

Nutty 25k for a year is not enough when our mortgage is basically that... But otherwise it would be ok...

BabyBolat · 30/04/2009 18:38

surprise I have bathed kara everyday since he was born bar one or two as that was what we were told to do - especially since nappy rash so u have done nothing wrong - can u post a pic on ur profile of belly button?

Will explain age later when at computer!

P.s. Nutty yah! for reading It's such a lovely thing learning to read and starting to be able to read books byoneself

Juwesm · 30/04/2009 18:41

Aargh! Why is the advice they give so variable? We top and tail every day (well...most days ), and bath twice a week (or after an explosive poo, cos it's easier!).

H is sitting in his vibrating bouncy chair, being very quiet and thoughtful, and exceptionally cute. It's almost the longest time he has spent anywhere other than my arms or DH's!

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 18:44

Yes why is the advice so variable? I really think people have little idea about what is best for babies, just like they no/ little about preganacy...too many variables...

SpringySponge · 30/04/2009 18:56

Congratulations Meg! Well done for just G&A!

surprise yay for poo & going out! It's nice that you're feeling more positive today

frekkles is my buddy, but I've not heard from her. & I'm loathed to text her in case she's not popping & I'm one of those irritating 'you're still pregnant? ' people by accident.

Auld, how rubbish for DS! Poor boy!

Oh Nutty, how lovely Well done DD1!

BB, I think that's a rather contrived way of feeling youthful - claiming that your DH is older than you despite all evidence to the contrary

No further advice WRT belly buttons, I'm afraid. George is hideously neglected in terms of washing. We've rinsed his hair a couple of times (when he was brand new & still had birth gunk), bathed him once & topped & tailed a few times. He's clean enough, though.

Today he has developed a strange fascination with my hair & keeps staring at it & trying to touch it. Strange boy.

From babycentre:
"Although some parents bath their babies every day for the sheer pleasure of it, newborn babies don't need a daily bath. Until a baby is crawling around and getting into messes, a bath isn't really necessary more than once or twice a week. Provided you wash off any obvious muck, your baby will stay clean enough (Kuller et al 2001).

The overuse of strong cleansers, and even tap water, may damage the developing skin of the newborn (Gfatter et al 1997; Yosipovitch et al 2000). Look for pH neutral cleansers or mild soaps designed especially for babies (Kuller et al 2001), and use them sparingly in the first few weeks. "

Suprise - Olive oil will be fine. You can put olive oil directly onto the skin to moisturise so in a bath would def be fine. It is more stuff like baby bath/wash that is all chemical rubbish basically. In fact, I hadn't thought of putting olive oil in the bath - I think that is a great idea!

I can't find my camera to post a picture - I will check it again at the next nappy change (she is fast asleep) and if I am still not sure, I will do a mega search for my camera. If not, do you think getting an appointment with the GP tomorrow wil be ok? As in, it's nothing that needs seeing to tonight?

In fact, we are going to the hospital tomorrow (different one to where she was born) for a breastfeeding help group thing. There will be a MW there as well as BF support people. Maybe the MW would look at her belly button? Or do you think that is cheeky to ask?

no offensive Nutty I'm aware that 25k is a lot of money in many ways... if we didn't have the mortgage Dh would probably still be there (except it was actually a very junior position considering his experience and he HATED it after only 4 days)

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 19:40

DH has just walked out of the house with a screaming baby (we cannot get MEg to settle for some reason); I opened the window and yelled 'where are you going?' He yelled back, 'for a walk!'
giggle

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 19:43

I hope Meg's dressed warm enough...

kazkiss · 30/04/2009 20:02

Hiya everyone! finally managed to get on here for a bit.

been trying to catch up on recent posts. Can we turn an antenatal thread to a postnatal one soon....

twinkies are doing well. just started to get settled into a routine.

am really annoyed with GP surgery at the moment as they and i were due 6 week check two weeks ago! and i phoned ages ago and the only appointment they could give me was today (8 weeks) thought ok fair enough. Well they told me they would post immunisation date through also due today... well anyway I rang the surgery yesterday to confirm they would be doing immunisations today and they told me i was the only one who had an appointment not the babies! but the receptionist said bring em in anyway and see if they could sort something out. Well this morning post arrived with appointments for them both (coincidence methinks ......) Immunisations not till tues(not tooo bad i suppose as they will only be 8 weeks 5 days) but they sent through an appointment for there postnatal check for the 12th may (they will be 10 weeks then)!!!!! almost a month late!!! anyway i got so i annoyed i canceled my own appointment as that is pointless as my wound is fine and i have already =sorted contraception. oooh well rant over!

on the subject of nappy rash. Izzie suffered really really badly in hospital (had broken red raw skin) and had to have oxygen put on her bot to help healing then she was discharged on metanium (which i now get on prescription for her. ) she is really sensitive to the preservitives in the premade formula.

we find metanium really good and was told to remove it with aquagel or ky jelly.

We do not bath them both every day maybe once or twice a week as this is what we were advised in hospital. we try and top and tail once twice daily (if we dont forget.... .

When we do bath they love it if i am in the bath with them, Probably cos you are not holding them so weirdly. Dh then comes and collects baby from bath and drys and dresses them and i lay back in the bath and lay them on my front inbetween my boobs and they always fall asleep whilst waiting for DH. As i dont BF this is probably them benefiting from skin to skin contact.

Juwesm · 30/04/2009 20:11

Kaz - Hi! Practice Manager!! 6 week check at 10 weeks is unacceptable, esp when they were premmies! FFS!

Have you had any problems with their feeding, or were they pretty well sorted when they came out of OFNU? Did you get Dalivit/ Fersamal/ Folic acid?

Any more details on Eliz? Name? Do you know if birth was okay?

BabyBolat · 30/04/2009 20:16

I DO NOT HAVE A TOY BOY!

OK so in Turkey (well when DH was born) your birth certificate (you get this on the day of birth) is not your proof of identity you have ID cards on registration of your birth! Anyway they also have to all do military service soooooo DH's dad decided not to register the male children until they were 2 -3 years old (which has implications for those first 2 years as they are technically not 'alive') so that they wouldn't have to do their military service until later in their life so technically he was born in september 1982 and registered in January 1985. His birth certificate says September 1982, his registration says January 1985.

Kara is a real hair puller - necklace puller - top puller - grabs anything!

BabyBolat · 30/04/2009 20:19

I make him take his birth certificate with him at all times so I can prove he is older than me!

Kaz - can you call them and ask them to explain why they are delaying the appointments - ask them if they think itis acceptable?

OP posts:
kazkiss · 30/04/2009 20:22

Hiya. thats what i am thinking. I think they shall expect a phonecall from me in the morning. I ended up at medocc the other week when they would have already been seen by doc and could have got problem sorted by then (ollie was suffering from reflux so prescribed gaviscon (problem magically solved)). Feeding near enough sorted ollie has always been a bit more problematic (probably cos he was so much smaller.) he suffers quite badly from constipation and the only thing that works is lactulose which i would rather not give him. But tried cooled boiled water, small amounts of orange juice, and using the premade formula.) Although the nicu were good and got them in a 3-4 hourly routine.

they are on the whole caboodle. nutriprem 2 dalivit and folic acid and fersmal. and will be for 6 months. not heard anymore about eliz. only that they were keeping them in for a couple of days to give abx.

hopefully will hear more soon....

gosh this past 8 weeks have flown by. I have decided that will probably be putting twinkies in nursery at work ,,,, (has anyone else thought about work stuff) we had to cos all places were being filled up for the end of the year (when i want (well have to) go back).

conkertree · 30/04/2009 20:25

the only thing about bathing i would stress - although it has been mentioned already, is not to use any products if you have sensitive skin yourself.

my skin has always been bad and we used a little baby oil on ds after a few weeks, and he developed exczema (sp?) pretty quickly - i've always felt guilty for it cause it must have some perfume etc in it and i always wondered if that set it all off. stick to the olive oil unless you are one of these lucky people that doesnt react to anything.

i cant force you all to stay on an antenatal thread for just me and a couple of others - but i do really appreciate you all sticking around. i would have produced a baby by now if it was up to me - sure frekkles feels the same. if you decide to move on though, thats up to you all.

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 20:26

ooooh do we have to move on? I do so like it here...

kazkiss · 30/04/2009 20:28

na i just meant stay here but when all have popped change the thread name......

conkertree · 30/04/2009 20:32

cool - would so much prefer you all to stay for a few more days - am feeling like a slight failure in getting this one out - am now more pregnant than I've been before (ds was born at 8.15 on 40+6) and I was so convinced that this one would be shorter.

with regards to work - i'm soo hoping that the wee kilt business takes off so i can not go back since i would love to be at home and running my own business, but i dont want to think about it properly till this lo is a month or two old - although did get another enquiry yesterday which is quite exciting as havent properly started advertising yet.

conkertree · 30/04/2009 20:33

thats interesting about registering the birth bb - do a lot of people do that with the delay?

did dh have to do the military service or was he living here by then? what made him come over here (if you dont mind me asking)?

Bleuravin · 30/04/2009 20:40

Oh conker, never you mind about your lo (late one) you'll joke about it later on...
And hopefully the business does pick up, kick off after the baby is a month or so old. It seems like an ideal situation to me
