christiana, sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it. Everything is much worse if you don't manage to get enough sleep. My ds is pretty terrible for going to bed too, although he does get up quite late so I manage to catch up then. I hope you're feeling better and have managed to get some sleep since last night. I'm sure you've googled already but in case there are some you haven't seen here's a list of ideas that may help turn the baby - pregnancychildbirth.suite101.com/article.cfm/turning_a_breech_baby some that don't involve scubbing floors on your knees ;)

Jetli I forgot to say i'm taking rasp leaf tablets too, not sure they did much last time but also figure they can't hurt. And plot2 what are 'salts for elasticity'?

pheonix - we're trying the 'run out of nappies' thing today with ds. I'm amazed so far, he's actually put his pants on! Could you let me know where you got the travel cot mattress from? sounds like just what we need.

My hip payment went through this week too I bought a lovely blanket from mama's and papas. I still need to get loads of stuff and to wash it all though!

tens I couldn't have coped without it especially in the earlier stages of my long labours. They work best if put on really early. Why not do what I do - buy one second hand on ebay then sell it on afterwards therefore effectively using it for free. I remember with DD I couldn't have a bath as I couldn't cope when they took it off

I'm all packed now and all the baby stuff is in the drawers which is frustrating me really as I need something to do.

hip how long did they take? I sent mine off about 2 weeks ago.

I am starting to feel tired now and I think the baby has dropped as I am getting kicked in the ribs less. I think it's head down so if thats the case it's good news. I keep falling asleep when I get in from the school run

We are ttrying to get ds out of nappies too so heres goes

Quiltedrose · 23/05/2009 20:48

baabaa blind what a great idea, dd1 woken up at 6 last 2 mornings when she'll normally sleep until 7.45! Not looking forward to losing my nights again

bump peaking a new one on me, will have to look out for it!

patchybob read about your C-section date and am sat here thinking omg omg OMG THE BABIES ARE COMING AAAAARRGGGHGHGHHGHGG! Don't want to induce full blown panic in anyone else but I have 6 weeks to go and haven't really once stopped to think that THERE'S A BABY COMING if you know what I mean!

Anyone else notice that people's reactions when they ask you how long you've got have subtly changed from 'oh a while yet then' to 'oh so not so long then'!!!!! Eeek.

high blood pressure anyone suffering at the moment? If so what are they doing for you? Just interested because had problems with mine last time around (not pre-eclamptic just gestational high BP on top of pre-existing highish BP) and got induced at 36+3...touch wood am 34+0 tomorrow and BP is still within normal range - last time had already been hospitalised twice.

So on to the cleaning - who else is actually nesting yet? I have developed a thing about hoovering and hoovered the kitchen floor 5 times yesterday everytime I saw a crumb basically....

And lastly is it time to start raspberry leaf tea?

Quiltedrose · 23/05/2009 20:49

Oh, not to mention that according to MW the head is 3/5 engaged, already.....

Mij · 23/05/2009 20:52

QueenFee I've got loads to do - you could come around and sort out our drawers, unpack some boxes, put up a couple of blinds...

raspberry leaf tea uurrrggghcchh. Can't bear it. I figure my uterus did fine last time so it's not getting any help this time if it's at the expense of my fragile tastebuds!

Quiltedrose · 23/05/2009 20:53

I've just impulse bought a baa baa blind, can you tell there's nothing on the telly?

Gillyan · 24/05/2009 11:22

blibds I soon realised when DD was 5 months old and it was June and she started waking with the sun!!!! I had a black out blind fitted and problem solved - smug me though, that was 3 yrs ago - just moved her into her new bigger room and thought she be okay without a blind but we were up at 6am this morning - with the sun!!!

Me and Dp had a lovely night last night, we went to the trafford centre and had a gorgeous Italian at a Tapas place called Pesto then went to watch Angels and Demons which was quite good - could of been better. I nearly had to leave half way through as it was sooo hot on there and I felt really weird, will not be going to the cinema again till after baby me thinks.

My BHs are getting even worse and I'm getting that niggling feeling like the baby is moving down further, I swear I had to stop walking yesterday in town cos I thought she was going to come out! I'm 33wks this wk so I suppose it really could be abytime.

Got my hospital bags, ended up getting a mini suitcase on wheels and a matching bag so I'll put my stuff in one and babies in another - got them from Barrets and they were only £15 and £8 and really colourful!

tens I never bothered and have not heard that they are only really effective in the early stages where i think it is a bit easier to cope anyway - my friend though swears by them and used her twice! You could always rent one in case you don't find it useful although I think they are only about £20 now. Dp uses one for his back now and again.

Right thinking about making a little picnic and going to the big park, I cannot keep DD in anymore, at least she'll get me moving when baby is here!

Love to all

scully · 24/05/2009 11:41

Was thinking the same thing today Quiltedrose, sometime in the next 7wks I will have another dc
dh picked up the new drawers yesterday, whcih fit into dd2's room perfectly. Have unpacked her things into them, will spend tomorrow unpacking the baby things into the other set of drawers. My nesting hormones are happy, finally getting to organise her dd2's room so the baby things will fit in there
I actually like rasberry leaf tea - is this is around the time to start taking it?
Is the HiP money a new thing? Don't remember receiving that with the dd's (they are 7 and 3.5)
You sound all organised Queenfee, I'm like Mij, I could find some things for you to do

Quiltedrose · 24/05/2009 12:48

Oooh I found some RLT that actually sounds drinkable.

Might wait to see if anyone else gives it a go first though

Beccabump · 24/05/2009 18:54

Hello all, just a quick update before I have to read the bedtime stories!

DD's operation went really well and she is recovering nicely! We went in at 12pm and were heading home at 4.30pm!! She demanded a drink and banana 30 mins after coming round so I guess she's pretty robust

I am absolutely shattered with having held it all together over the last week, not wanting her to be scared or worried about going. Also not sleeping well now that the SPD is getting really rough. Trying all my old tricks but not a lot helping so far.

RLT has anyone thought of taking the capsules if you don't like the tea flavour? I used them last time I think it is 36 weeks you should use it from??

Have decided I am due in the next 5-10 weeks as typical pregnancies last between 37-42 weeks according to my midwife That is the date I am giving everyone now and confusing a lot of people - I need some amusement!

RLT is supposed to 'tone your uterus' so that you contractions are more effective and therefore labour 'should' be faster. It is also supposed to be good for helping the uterus shrink down afterwards decreasing bleeding and helping everything get back to normal.

Christiana with a potential breech and c-section I'd check with your mw first before taking anything

Belgrano · 24/05/2009 22:42

Hi everyone
I've been away for ages, sorry but wanted to check in and say hi. I've had a pretty shocking time TBH. My grandmother died and two weeks later my dear dear father was taken into intensive care (was diagnosed with cancer late last year). He died after 10 days, causing us to have to cancel Grandmothers' funeral (she still hasn't been buried as Dad's death rather eclipsed hers, which we all feel awful about).
I am 32 weeks now and just enormous. We've got masses of work to do on the house and a holiday/wedding in France to go to in a week on the ferry (going the day after my dad's funeral).
Baby is still transverse lie and I have a scan in a few weeks to check my low lying placenta. Trying not to worry too much about the possibility of a caesarian though.
To say I'm a bit overwhelmed is an understatement but this baby is giving us all lots of hope and DD is keeping my spirits up. Sorry to bring a downer to you all but I did want to say hi and couldn't pretend I'd been doing nothing all this time.

Belgrano I am so so sorry about your dad and your grandmother. Such sad news. I hope that you and your family are all ok. Take each day as it comes and look after each other.

Well, after the glorious weather yesterday, its pouring here which is a bummer. Played monopoly with the dc in the garden under an umbrella which was great and very grown up! Strange to think we wont be doing that so much in 7 weeks!!

I used a tens machine for both my labours and it was a godsend in the beginning until I needed an epidural. Once it was removed i realised how well it was working! You have to put it on early on though to feel the benefit.

Just discovered that we have lost the screws to the cot so can't put it together until we come up with plan B as DH says!! They are really long ones so I feel a trip to homebase coming as we search for similar!!!

Have a good day everyone xxx

Cheekycel · 25/05/2009 16:58

Belgrano so sorry for your loss. I hope that you and your family are coping at this sad time.

Need to get my A into G with regards to getting baby's room and clothes sorted. Keep putting off going to Ikea for a chest of drawers. NEED TO GET SORTED!

A little recap of the past couple of days... Went to GP for 32 + appointment on Thursday. She was concerned that my BP was up slightly and there was protein in my urine. Also struggled to find the heartbeat, leading to her calling in 2 other doctors for help. Everything was fine though, but all this added together left me feeling quite anxious by the time I left. She also wants to see me again tomorrow morning.

Frid ay had a rather busy day, was knackered by the time I got home. DP works nights, I went to bed early as I couldnt get comfy on the sofa. Suddenly I had some kind of panic attack, couldnt breathe properly, hands and feet seemed extra swollen and I think I just over-reacted. Calmed down after an hour or so. Next morning DP convinced me to call the labour ward and they told me to come in just to be sure. Felt much better after id been, even though I felt silly!

Rest of the weekend was uneventful, spent yesterday in the sun at Richmond which was really lovely! And today im just chilling

Hope everyone has had a brilliant weekend! 3 more weeks of work, I cant wait to be on mat leave. Keep telling everyone that I havent had a holiday in ages, to be rudely reminded that this wont be a holiday but u know what i mean right

xxhunnyxx · 25/05/2009 18:42

I'm thinkin about using a Tens machine but would it mean that I can't also use the pool? I know I obviously can't use it whilst I'm in the pool but can I put it on and take it off to go in the pool? Or is it a case of tens or pool?

Gillyan · 25/05/2009 20:10

belgrano Sorry for your loss, hope you get through it ok

Just a quicky to share a nice birth story for a change.

My best friend had her little boy at 5am today! Today was her due day! 7lbs 13oz - Called him Cody. Was in labour for....................10 MINS!!!!!!! I kid you not! He had done his first poo ( meconium) inside her so they have to stay in for 24hrs but other than that no probs, haven't spoke to her properly yet so will get more info tomorrow when I see them hopefully!

QueenFee · 25/05/2009 20:36

belgrano so sorry you are having a difficult time
cheeky hope things settle down a bit now
hunny tens you can take it off and on so can get in the pool. I personally can't give mine up once it's on but my sister took hers off to get in pool.
gillyan 10 mins - I wish (I envision myself walking round imagining this for the next 6 weeks!)

EvieBear · 25/05/2009 20:58

belgrano so sorry to hear about your Dad, that must be so tough on you at the moment, hope you are taking it as easy as possible.

gillyan ten mins sounds great!

i was in john lewis on saturday looking around the nursery section and ethan hawke came in with this little baby!! v funny, anyway ended up talking to him as he had a baby bjorn on and DP asked him what he thought if it, bit surreal. he was friendly and shook hands with us both and chatted away... his baby, clementine, is verrrrry cute!!!

rubyriley · 25/05/2009 21:02

Belgrano So sorry to hear about your dad & your grandmother; am very close to my dad and can't imagine what you're going through. Terribly sad for you. Re your worries about a CS though, spoke to my friend who had an emergency one 3 weeks ago and she said that part was fine (her complications meant that despite contractions, she only dilated 3cm) and that even the recovery was ok. Bit sore for 1st couple of days and have to look after yourself and not overdo things, but that overall the CS was alright really.

Cheekycel Gosh, sounds very nerve wracking at yr GP's but thank goodness you're both ok!! Everyone's nightmare that when they do that sonicaid thing, they can't find the heartbeat

Tens machine; friend above said that she could not have coped without hers. Her labour long and drawn out and the machine made all the difference. Her little boy, her first DC at 9lb 6oz, born by emergency CS after having cord wrapped round his neck twice so could not descend down onto her cervix, apparently this head pressure required to make it dilate. So she struggled for 24 hours with her carers not understanding why she was not dilating until they did the section. 3 weeks later, she is the picture of health, and so is her gorgeous little boy

Belgrano · 25/05/2009 22:42

Thanks for all your kind thoughts. I was also extremely clost to my dad so yes it is hideous, but I'm managing.
TENS was not helpful to me, I think it depends on the person. Water def helped though, but you do have to remember to take off TENS when you get into water otherwise you will electrocute yourself!
I fancy a ten minute labour please. More details please when you get them Gillyan!

JetLi · 26/05/2009 12:24

So sorry about your sad news Belgrano - thinking of you and sending you some hugs
