Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

re monitors- we ended up with 2 sets as we were still using ours with DD (2.6) when DS came along (and we needed 2 sets as they were both having daytime naps even though DS was in with us at night). Took a while to get them set up so they didn't interfere with each other. We still use a monitor for DD (now aged 4.4) and wonder when we'll stop - probably when she can take herself for a wee at night and not bother us!

dandy- sorry about the schools thing- i think it is well worth an appeal, and even if that fails, you could ask to be put on the waiting list (people do move around etc and a place may come up in the near future). I agree with spangle that you can do a lot to help with your DDs education, and hopefully she will find some friends and enjoy whatever school she goes to. In your area, do you reapply at age 7/8 or do the schools cover up to age 11?

Momino · 27/04/2009 14:47

monitors, we still have one on in the dd's room but i use it mainly as a thermostat - helps me decide when to turn the central heating on (as it did this morning when it registered 15c).

DC3 will stay in our room for the 1st few weeks at least. then, when guest room is free, may move to that as a temporary nursery until s/he sleeps through the night and able to move in with DD 1&2.

frazzledoldbag · 27/04/2009 14:50

oh god, just realised I haven't ordered a tens machine (yet). Had one with DD1 and loved it. Had one last time and thought it was rubbish - and took it off after a couple of hours. Shall I, shan't I? I have hypnotherapy on my side this time.........I hope?! What do you lot think?

pulapula · 27/04/2009 14:50

frazzled- DD was in her own room at 5 months (which worried us no end but we felt we were disturbing her at night and sure enough she then slept through) and then DS went a bit sooner (4 months) when he was no longer having night feeds. I expect this LO will go even sooner (3 months)! So yes, its funny your DD2 was in with you longer. I know people who have put their DCs in the nursery straightaway but not sure i could.

Blottedcopybook · 27/04/2009 14:52

I'm finding this conversation about DCs in your room interesting - our DCs all co-slept with us, DS2 is the most independant and non-touchy feely of ours and he went in with his brother at five months. DS1 was still sleeping in with me when he was three (but it was just him and I at that point) and DD moved into her own cot at 9 months when she finally started sleeping through the night! This time, I have the cot set up in DDs room and I'm hoping that the baby will use that for naps and maybe move in at night around 6 months. Hopefully!

I was at the midwife this morning and that's my homebirth officially out of the window. Going to see the consultant next Tuesday with a view to being induced at the end of the following week when I turn 38 weeks. I'm surprisingly okay, I thought I'd be really upset but I'm quite relieved that I know what's going to happen.

If my neck doesn't ease off by Tuesday I have to get an injection into the muscles I am seriously seriously hoping it doesn't come to that.

flippineck · 27/04/2009 14:54

Hello again! I'm back, and I am dressed now. I've even ventured out of the house, to buy a newspaper and a jam doughnut.

dandy - that's rubbish news about the schools. Hope you have the strength and energy to appeal and get what you want, although agree with what spangle says, DH and his brother were brought up in a very similar situation and done pretty well for themselves.

tummum - grr at your friend, 3 is great! And you'll cope perfectly. Glad your chocolate eclairs helped though!

pula - what a lovely bump! And at your bathroom too.

grumpy - You might possibly be mad to let your DH out on Saturday. Mine is going out cycling on Monday - that's 4 days before my due date! - but by way of a compromise he's only doing about 60 miles instead on 120, and he reckons he'll never be more than two hours ride from home. .

We've never had a baby monitor at all, we live in such a small house that even with the doors closed we can hear what's going on. Not going to get one now either.

Belgianchocolates · 27/04/2009 14:56

Well, I'm back from listening to my CD and I managed to miss the last 10 mins of it. Really, I don't know what time of day I need to listen to it without falling asleep

I'm about to go and pick up the dcs but just want to say that I know Thys and Saskia and I do think they're Dutch names, but Saskia might be German as well. Gosh, I haven't heard the name Saskia in years...

We'd stopped using the baby monitor with ds once he could get out of bed himself. With dd I didn't really need it as first she was in our bedroom for ages and our bedroom was right above the living room, so I could hear her throught the ceiling if she cried. I've bought a cordless baby monitor this time, thinking that with it being summer, we might be out in the garden while lo is asleep in the house and so a cordless monitor would come in quite handy.

sausagenmash · 27/04/2009 15:05

Gaaaaaaah feel sick after pot noodle (beef and tomato!) Keep doing noodly hiccups. Ugh.

Blotted - hope your neck eases - injection into muscles sounds pretty awful. Fingers crossed.

Grumpy - hahahaaa jigsaw update - each time I pick up a piece, it goes into the right place! Hurrah! I thank you Still haven't sorted the sodding dalmations, but they can wait.

Momino · 27/04/2009 15:10

pula, are you laughing (and proud) of the many comments you get about your bathroom at the same time as your bump ?

blotted, glad you're ok about the change in birth arrangements. guess we all have to be flexible. hope your neck gets better - is there anything/remedy you can do or apply now to help it get better quicker? or just take it easy and eat more jam doughnuts ?

belgian's just reminded me to go listen to my hypno cd. i'll fall asleep too but that can't be a bad thing .

flippineck · 27/04/2009 15:10

LOL at noodly hiccups. I luurve beef and tomato pot noodles, with extra ketchup.

Momino · 27/04/2009 15:13

oh before I go to hypnotise myself, frazzled, i was mixed as well about tens machine but have hired one in any case for this time. as with hypnotherapy, breathing, etc - it can't hurt, can it?

I was able to find someone on our NCT yahoo group who hired hers to me for £10 and I just had to buy the pads. otherwise, go the usual sites: boots, babycareTens, etc. i think they can get them to you within a day or two.

Gert2a · 27/04/2009 15:19

Blotted sending postive vibes to your neck. Can you let me have your blog address/jaffa cake recipe - I dreamt about said cake last night, so maybe it's a sign I need one in my life.

Llare sending lovely inducement and labour and birth vibes your way - how exciting.

Am in the final stages of preparing little bits to send to my best friend for her wedding on saturday. Tomorrow is also my last chance to post anything pre-birth, so am cracking on and I WILL get to the post office to post it all!

FiKelly · 27/04/2009 15:24

frazzled if you need a tens machine for hire in a hurry.... some larger boots stores stock them ready for hire. you leave your credit card number for a deposit and hire (with advantage points) is the same as online. I ordered my hire one with on line a while ago... it didn't arf give me a 'oh no not long to go' eek when it arrived in the post last week

tummum I think your friend was prob more than a little envious. ANyway it's quality of time you spend with the dc's not quantity right?! (she hopes as ds has seen a lot of cbeebies today )

pulapula · 27/04/2009 15:27

lol Momino- i am more proud of my bump (which i sort of "made" although have no control over really) than my bathroom (which i inherited) but i think its funny that every time i post a bump photo i get just as many comments on the bathroom as the bump .

FiKelly · 27/04/2009 15:28

blotted really hope your neck is better and you don't have to have the injections [shudder emoticon] glad you're not too upset about the hb... i decided to be open minded this time as ds's actual birth couldn't have been more different to my birth plan even if i had tried!

pulapula · 27/04/2009 15:31

just seen your post fi. My DH thinks its funny (ironic) that i spend time chatting on mumsnet about being a mum whilst the DCs watch cbeebies and generally make a mess of the living room (toys everywhere) . Well at least they are both dressed now (albeit just now). At least i have kids who are happy playing and making their own entertainment and aren't overly clingy or need constant attention as a result [grin[.

pulapula · 27/04/2009 15:33

blotted- sorry to hear abour your neck pains and the change in birth plan, but good on you for being calm about it and hope the induction next week goes well.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 27/04/2009 15:45

Dandy grrr on your behalf re the schools. That sucks. Am sure you'll find some helpful advice on MN about appealing. They're not making it easy though for you with that deadline. Fingers crossed for you.

Re the Welsh names - can't remember who raised this now, but I have a friend who went down the Welsh name route with all three of his (His DP is welsh) - Nye (boy), and Oisin (sp? also boy) and Megan. All lovely names I think. I couldn't do Myfanwy or Daffyd without thinking "only gay in the village" and an image of a large bald man in skin tight PVC gear springing into my head.

Have returned from JL with new Storksak Emily bag duly purchased! Am v v pleased with it. Can't wait to start using it!

Tummum · 27/04/2009 15:48

Blotted sorry to hear your HB is off the agenda, but hopefully being induced at 38wks will stop the SPD and neck pain sooner. I'd also like a link to your blog as the Jaffa cake thingie sounds YUMMY and I need some in my life !

As for DC sleeping in rooms, both my DDs were in their own rooms at about 10 days because I couldn't sleep with their snuffling / snoring and my over anxious mother hormones kept me awake. I know this is not advised but it was right for me. My personal opinion is that it also helped them sleep through the night (and I also slept them on their tummies) but I know it's a tricky subject that people have strong opinions on so I'm going to back off very rapidly...

PPula IKWYM about DC entertaining themselves and subscribe fully to your strategy and outlook.

FiKelly · 27/04/2009 15:51

ladyhelen the emily was on my short list too... but it was the claire i really hankered after which i bought

pula our living room is also strewn with toys and the remnants of the blocks towers we were building earlier. Just so worn out at the mo... i've had to resort to keeping the dog in the kitchen today as i can't cope with the endless scrubbing of carpets due to his endless poo and wee accidents. I'm taking him back to the vet tomorrow to see if the tablets are making any kind of difference to him...

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 27/04/2009 15:52

Frazz DD2 is a size 10, so about but thank you anyway. We shall see if I win the shiny silver ones I'm bidding on.

She has another wobbly tooth, she's still only 4 .

Blotted - I hope your neck improves , glad you're ok re the changes to your birth plan.

Off to make banana bread and whip cream for trifle (unfortunately, made with green jelly so a bit lurid, it dyed the lovely cake I'd made for the bottom layer!!!!) and cut about 9000 slices of cheese for DD2, aka the cheese fiend.

I subscribed to blotted's blog a while back when we were last discussing our various ones (mine is v neglected at the mo)

blotted's blog is here

FiKelly · 27/04/2009 15:57

right switching off the laptop for the mo... off to par boil some tatties to make baked in the oven chips and try and summon up the strength to tidy the devastation creative play of the lounge! see you all later

Gert2a · 27/04/2009 16:27

Fikelly thanks for link to Blotted's blog. Will wait in happy anticipation for the jaffa cake recipe.

Have been to post office. Wedding goodies posted. Chocbunnies your RLT tablets are on their way to you too!

Saw Chris Camara (enthusiastic Sky sports football presenter) getting his passport checked for renewal in the post office - big news in my town, no one famous lives in the depths of West Yorkshire!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 27/04/2009 17:08

Gert whereabouts in Wezzerland are you?

Isn't Chris Camara the one with the 'Soul Glow' shiny curly hair? He is VERY enthusiatic!!

Right, banana bread made, cream whipped, trifle (green jelly ) topped, spag bol sauce made, pasta cooked, just the cheese to grate and then maybe I can have a cup of fennel tea (not overly nice and smells like curry but good for stomachs, I am led to believe) and think about nuffink in particular!
