Oooh Charley she sounds a bit old school!! You only have a m/w visit you for about 7-10days then you get a health visitor so don't panic yet.
We had someone all lined up to look after our dog and on the crucial night hos phone broke and we couldn't get hold of him. Poor ddog was left from 9.30pm to 8.30 am. She was rather confused. We were lucky then that dd was an overnighter. The chap worked with DH and so we could have called him by 0800 at work and got him to go and collect her (dog went to work with DH) but it wasn't necessary in the end.

charleypops · 07/05/2005 19:40

Our emergency dog sitter is in New York for 2 weeks - a week before I'm due and the week after. Also our lovely neighbour who takes him out a lot and would have him at the drop of a hat is away that crucial 2 weeks too.

They're so inconsiderate!!

If it's not hot weather, then he could come in the car with us to the hospital and dp could pop out and check on him every now and again, but I suspect it'll be way too hot to have him in the car. I've tried all the local dog walkers, but they need to know in advance, and none of them can take him home with them anyway. Might have to look into kennels

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 19:48

You def won't want DP popping out every now and then. I felt lost when dh went to call our parents to let us know where they were. I don't think I even let him go to the loo .
I am afraid that kennels may be your best bet. I have a funny feeling that Kira went into kennels for the tues and wed anyway as dh was spending all his time at the hosp with me but we can't remember properly.

charleypops · 07/05/2005 19:52

Was she very traumatised?

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 19:54

Should read 'let them know' not us...
They are very inconsiderate . Did they not ask?????
I am off to bed now. Night night.

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 20:01

Opps x posted that one.
She was OK. It is coming back to me. We got me and dd home and had half an hour to get her and me settled and then dh got Kira from the kennels. She was absolutely fine. DD was sleeping in her crib downstairs and Kira didn't even notice her for the first half hour as she made no noise and she obviously didn't sniff her out. DD hit the side of the crib and Kira's ears went up and she went over to try and see what it was. She was fine. She was a bit jealous to start with as everytime dd cried she used to get up and stand in between me and the crib but soon backed down when I told her too. She is quite adaptable really bless her. She didn't get protective or anything. She just sulked and ignored dd if anything. DH took her into work still to begin with too and we obviously made loads of fuss of her. Whoever didn't have the baby sat on the floor with Kira and she soon settled. She was used to the kennels though as she has never travelled (sick after 5 mins) and so sadly had to go in if we ever had a w/e away. She loved the kennels lady though used to pull like mad to get to her when dropped off. Ahhh I am reminiscing now. .

charleypops · 07/05/2005 20:10

That's exactly the scenario I imagine will happen here too with our dog and new baby - he'll just ignore him and sulk a bit

Gosh can't imagine Charley pulling to get into kennels no matter how lovely the staff are! (unless they smell of roast chicken or stinky cheese that is!)

Sorry for keeping you awake.

Night!

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 20:17

She only pulled to say hello I should hasten to add. She didn't pull when she realised we were leaving her . I used to cry everytime. I made dh drop her off but i would always go with him to get her. Pathetic aren't I. I have just popped over to Yahoo to see your Charley. He is GORGEOUS. So cute. What a lovely face.
The bump has been booting the hell out of my ribs for the last hour and they are really sore now. Right really am off to bed. Hopefully bump will calm down when I am lying down with a bit more room in there for him/her. Night night again.

Ahh Lynny, your Jude sounds wonderful. It is so sad when they get old isn't it?
I am afraid I am a great believer in too much information causing unnecessary worry/paranoia, but then that won't surprise you with my head in the sand mentality. My dear friend in Germany has had lots of scans and appts (like Bero) and they discovered on one that the baby had an irregular heartbeat. This rightly sent her into a spin and we were all very scared and worried. She now has a scan every week and they have measured the flow of blood etc and all is normal. They are now saying that the problem will be solved as the baby grows and will be sorted by the time it is born, thank goodness. Now don't get me wrong I think if you can know this information it is important as there may be something that needs to be done at birth etc or people on stand by but the extra stress it has caused her has been huge and obviously won't go until the baby arrives and it given the all clear. She is really pleased with all the extra monitoring etc but forme part of me thinks I would rather stick with the system we have and have been none the wiser as it looks as though everything will be OK. It is a tough one. I shocked some people at a meal last week by saying I hadn't opted for any of the blood screening tests they offered. This was obviously after lengthy discussions with DH and the right decision for us but they were really .
I am glad you are getting such good care. I wouldn't worry about the fundus. They don't worry about it two weeks either way apparently and I would say it is def no prob if they are scanning the size etc. At my last appt they didn't even measure the fundus as the hosp midwife said she doesn't agree with it and the consultants here don't think it means much either. There are so many conflicting opinions aren't there!!!
Have to go now as we are out for a roast lunch and I have to get dd dressed!
Have good days all.

Cooperoo · 08/05/2005 17:03

Hello all.
Now that we are on count down have you all decided on names for certain? DH and I have spent hours today trawling the internet for inspiration and although there are lots of names we really like none jump out at us. . I am finding it quite annoying now. Has anyone got a great website we may have missed? Hope you have all had lovely days. My friend dropped off the Silver Cross pram today so I have had loads of fun playing with that and trying the toddler seat out. It will take some getting used to with the toddler seat but I love it!
Bero - How are you today?
Time to get my feet up as the cankles have returned following a mammoth ironing session this afternoon. Still no baby stuff sorted though ......

welshmum · 08/05/2005 19:43

Hello all,
As I've said before on here I am that woman who didn't sterilise anything for her baby. Just washed everything of baby's first in a clean sink with hot water and washing up liquid, rinsed thoroughly and air dried on clean tea towel - as instructed by UCH neo-natal unit. I think I'll be going with their advice again this time around. Although next time in hospital I am going to pop down and just confirm that this is still their best practice.
DH just got down the boxes of clothes from the attic so I can sorrt through them all tomorrow - I can't believe how teeny tiny everything is - oh my goodness.
Coop we spent today doing a bit of the name business - I'm finding it really hard this time too
Lynny - your dh is right - nothing we're going to get now will reduce the bumpage - I feel enormous.
Hope you all had relatively restful weekends ladies - my first 'day off' tomorrow hurray!

Evening ladies

Haven't been on for a while been so busy with finding a house !

Well I am on my last week at work next week - finish on 13th and then baby is induced on 23rd argh due date is 5th June so little one will be two weeks early.

Today I have swollen ankles and am a tad worried about it as I have been fine up until the swelling and not sure if I should be overly concerned or not?

Also I know we are having a boy but everyone keeps going on about me having a girl - "ooooh you have the pregnancy mask that you normally only get with girls" or "you are carrying differently, must be a girl" so I am just wondering if anyone know of anyone who was told at their scan a certain sex but had the other sex?

I know its easier for sonographers to see a boy and I am sure I saw bits and bobs for a boy but could it be a mistake?

SOrry to rattle on and hope everyone is in good health.

Love Cobweb xxx

bubbaloo · 08/05/2005 20:53

cobweb-know exactly what you mean.apparently we're also having a boy and ive bought loads of little blue outfits etc and even had personalised things made with his name on such as a door plaque, pegs and hooks.the last few days ive been saying to dh "i bet we're having a girl!!".i suppose we've geared ourselves up to having a boy now so its only natural to feel that way and im sure if "bits and bobs" have been seen, then it must be a boy!!!
oh well...hope everyones had a nice weekend-im off to pack my hospital bag now

Had a really busy weekend cleaning the huse, but am soooo excited to be back in my dear(and enlarged) bedrm and my cnfy mattress, that all was wrth it!!! Still have t sort ut dwnstairs, but at least now I have a place fr bubs to be in .

BTW, visited the hspital tday. Was expecting the wrse, s was pleasantly surprised. The after labur rms have only 4 women and the visit hours are 9Am-9PM for partners, not too bad. Jonah - Wythenshawe is even closer to you than me.... sure yu don't want to switch?

I got DH to agree on baby's name, so am pretty excited and now worried t it will turn ut it will be a girl....

Cobweb,. I agree with thers swollen ankle are common, but if you think it was too sudden it won't hurt t phnew your MW. Good luck with yur house hunt!!!

Charley, you are absolutely right, I do have lots of dark brown hair. I have used the store bught semi permanent colours a couple of times, but it makes such a mess!!! How about some red highlights? Would that work?

Trib, Sorry for being such a nerd! I just can't help myself sometimes....

Uki · 09/05/2005 04:41

Hi Ladies

I haven't been able to keep up lately, which is weird coz i have started maternity leave. Glad to hear everyone is well, and it's exciting to hear about Uwila and her baby being so soon. Wow i can't believe how quick it is all going. I still have about 4 and a bit weeks but that seems so soon to me.
Sounds weird but i'm kinda glad to hear that even if you know the sex everyone still wants to put in their opinion. Coz i'm really over the i think it's a boy, i think it's a girl comments. So over them that i wished i could say shutup i'm actually having a ....
i think pregnant mothers should be left in peace. We can always dream can't we???

JonahB · 09/05/2005 07:39

Morning all,

Coop, we've already decided our names as well. My DH will only consider one name for a girl and our boy's choice was the only name that one or other of us didn't hate. We didn't have a shortlist at all as there wasn't more than 1 name for each sex that could have been written on a list .

Lynny, Jessica is a lovely name!

Lua, I'm really pleased about wythenshawe's visiting hours. I was worried there for you. I can also reassure one of my friends who is booked into Wythenshawe for delivery in July. Thanks for the info.

uwila · 09/05/2005 09:32

Ah yes, I too like to poke fun when people tell me it's a boy or it's a girl or my favorrite is "are you sure it's not twins". I'm not particularly subtle. I usually respond "It's a boy... either that or she has three legs. I asked again at my scan last week just be sure (incidentally I had a really good sonographer who was happy to show me anything and everything I asked to see that day), so she scanned down to his bits and said "ooo lok at those testes, I'll say it's a boy" So now DH is proudly saying "Yeah, my boy is well hung".

As for the twins comment, I just thank God it's not so.

Today marks the first day of my last week of work... yippee!!!!!

welshmum · 09/05/2005 09:39

Hello all,
Jessica is a lovely name Lynny and Jess a great short form. Your dh sounds like such a sweetheart - we do need them to reassure us that although we look like whales on legs we are still uncommonly gorgeous
I think I'm going to go in to hospital with a few names and see what it looks like.

welshmum · 09/05/2005 09:41

Uwila - morning - if you come across any good suggestions for preparation for or recovery from c-sections - feel free to post them - would like to hear them. Cheers - have a good day.

Cooperoo · 09/05/2005 10:04

Hello all,
A really quick post to say Hi before I get dd from creche.
Lynny - I love the name Jessica. One of my best friends is Jessica though so it is not on our shortlist. I don't know what type of Silver cross it is, but it is big with a solid body. I will try to find out as I am quite intrigued too. It has come with all the accessories, sunshade, mossie net, rain cover bit for hood plus apron and my friend has given me all her lovely bedding and muslins too. I am very lucky. We are going to make a donation to a charity as a thank you as she won't take any money. It makes sense to be a charity for babies and we were thinking Tommy's. Has anyone any other good relevant causes we may not be aware of??
Lua - I have dark hair too and have reddish brown highlights to cover my grey bits. It works a treat I think. I only have a few grey bits and have lots of thin (ie not chunky) highlights done so that it looks natural as I too am very anti any kind of regrowth/ roots issues.
Have to run now. Hope all well.

MrUwila · 09/05/2005 10:05

Hi Welshie,
Are you going to try Arnica? Have you decided on c-section? Do you have a daye?

Testing Mr. Uwila's new account ~(which he shall soon be told about) so he can post appropriate birth announcement while Alex and I relax in the care of Queen Charlotte.
