I think drinking a lot of milk might contribute to a healthy baby, but not an abnormally large one.

Lua · 06/05/2005 14:23

I don't drink much milk, and could be having a big one... So I don't think is the case! It ought to be good for their bones!
BTW, All the research I read in big babies says that the best predictor of baby size is parents size....

Uwila, belated congrats on the section date. How exciting!
I have one week left at work now, cannot wait to finish. Baby due in three -yikes!

Re hair dye - are you all kidding me? Have I suffered 9 months of grey only to be told that I could have been having those highlights all along? What else should I know - that my enforced pate/stilton/red wine ban is also a myth grrrrrrrrrrrrr

tribpot · 06/05/2005 16:27

Nogger, fraid you have been going grey graciously for no good reason. Highlights particularly seem okay cos they don't go to the root of the hair (so I understand, I have never had them done myself!) Here are few answers I turned up this afternoon:

From the NCT

iVillage

Dr Spock

Lynny, glad you're feeling calmer.

I didn't buy the milk story either, I must say. But we'll see what size Lynny's monkey baby is to be sure

I think parental size as an indication of baby size is a very good idea, as we are both hobbits and I could fancy having a hobbit baby. Although femur length was a bit above average at the last scan, and we do both have giants in the family ....

redheadmum · 06/05/2005 16:35

hey all just a quick post

Mrs W - you asked about the birth ball, its great for supporting you in a comfortable position for preg and birth too

won't be posting much as off to see in laws for the weekend

Cooperoo · 06/05/2005 17:53

Hello all,
Well I have had a funfilled packed day. I rang my community midwife as instructed this morning to ask about the clinic. It wasn't my normal lady and she did not have a CLUE what I was talking about, so I said I would just ring the ward. Called them and they said they had still not heard anything. I said bloody hell and it looked very unlikely now didn't. She said they were still hoping. I got off the phone and burst into tears and sobbed the whole way through my shower.... I had been pinning a lot on this news either way and was fed up with still not knowing where I will have my baby with only 5.5 weeks till dues date.
I went to do my last session opening at the toddler group and then met DH at home before going off to our families day. Watched the Falcons parachute in (no stripping today) and then went round the stalls. Went to the breastfeeding support table to have a chat (they run a group here every Tuesday) and the midwife there was just chatting and said that she may not always be able to be at the group now that THEY WERE GOING TO BE DELIVERING IN LIMASSOL!!!!!
I grabbed her and said what did you say, you will be delivering in Limassol and she said yes the money has been approved. I actually jumped in the air (luckily the pelvic floor held up..just). . The only possible prob is that they are expected to be set up by 6th June so I have to keep my legs crossed till then. I am not due till the 13th anyway but will be avoiding all raspberry leaf tea and sex (poor DH) until then. I am going to double check again on Monday and get some proper details but I am so much happier already.
Then we had lots to eat and bought the bump a little teddy from the Bear Factory stand and then watched the Red Arrows do a fab display. I am very tired now though so will not be going out to the party tonight as planned. We will be able to hear all the music anyway so I might sit on the veranda and have a small beer to celebrate a good day! My dress for the Spring ball (£9.99 bargain from Jojobebemaman) arrived too and will be fab although it is not quite long enough (should be below ankle) I think they will make an exception.
Hope everyone enjoyed their last days.
Uwila - So glad you feel happy and organised too. What is happening with your Nanny.
Sympathy for all the people with building work....Hope all is finished very soon.
Lynny - What was your rant about??? Am curious now.
Bubb - You did the only thing you could IMO putting the cats in. Kind of natural end for a mouse... Sad though....
Hello Mrs F and Nogger.
I too think hair dye is fine.
Lua - Hope you are OK too. I am blaming this bump for grey hairs and thread veins...
I am sure I have missed someone so sorry. No notes made.....
Have a good w/e Red
Birth balls are great for bouncing on to help the baby down and for leaning over and rocking on etc. I used mine alot at home but it didn't go out of the car last time we went to the hospital. Have used it alot this time too to ease back ache and improve my posture (bad at the best of times). Bye for now..

Cooperoo · 06/05/2005 17:56

Blimey, just reread that. Sorry for all mistakes, hope you can follow it, was typing as thinking....

mrsflowerpot · 06/05/2005 18:34

do you think that white hairs could be preg-hormone induced?? I am pinning my hopes on this as I have a little crop of them which I have never had before - and today have spotted one in my eyebrow . I don't want to go white yet! It took me 25 years to like having red hair!

Coop, good news about Limassol. But I would keep the jumping for joy to a minimum if I were you...

charleypops · 06/05/2005 18:40

Lippy - you know, I think I just might go for the Maya....

Welshie/Katz - Yipee! hope you enjoyed your last day!!

KVG - Lol at your "poached eggs"

Dp said I looked like Humpty Dumpty the other day, yesterday my next door neighbour said I wasn't pg and just had a football stuffed up my top, and today my other neighbour said I had "a comedy bump" ! I cannot disagree - my bump is completely round!

Bubbs - your cats sound a bit fiesty at the moment bringing in all those poor little meeces. Maybe they can sense they're about to be knocked down the household heirachy a bit?

Coop - Loads of luck with your private clinic - great news so far! Keep doing your pelvic floor's and I'll keep my fingers and legs crossed for you

Johah - I'm so sorry you're going to be worrying about dh's visiting hours now. I'm sure it'll be fine, but saying that doesn't help does it

Uwila - what a shame you seem to keep picking up mistakes and mistruths with these medics. What a relief for you though to know the cord's not around his neck. Sounds like you can now relax and enjoy your last few days (eek!)

Lua - if you wear a cap for your highlights, then hardly any dye will touch your skin anyway. Not much would touch with foil either if done by someone experienced - they should allow for an "expansion gap" of a few mm at your scalp.

Lynny - I'm almost as bad as you with the milk and cereals - never bothered before. Weird. Hope your earlier crisis is over!? You must post though if you think it would help!

Trib - do you really have giants in your family?! Wow - how interesting! You don't have an uncle or something that works in the hospital in Nottingham do you?

Lua/coop - I noticed a wirey grey hair on my head by the parting just today! What's going on?

charleypops · 06/05/2005 18:41

the guy that works in the hospital in Nottingham isn't a giant btw, he just has them in his family too...

katzguk · 06/05/2005 18:43

katz-glad you enjoyed your last day.it's lovely not having to get up at the crack of dawn and travel into work
have tried emailing you again btw so hopefully you'll get it this time!

Cooperoo · 06/05/2005 19:18

I found my first grey hair when pregnant with dd so of course I have always blamed her. I seem to have a couple more now I am pregnant again...
I usually hate milk and have craved milkshakes and cereal this pregnancy. Can't see a link with big babies though. I was always told that the baby would take everything it needed from you and so the reason you need extra calcium/vitamins/iron etc is for your health rather than the babies. I have quite liked this idea and so gone with it.

katzguk · 06/05/2005 19:32

bubb - found your email, hotmail had very kindly labelled it as junk!! have emailed back with my address

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 19:54

charming!!!
got your email,ta.
i'll post it off tomorrow.

tribpot · 06/05/2005 21:54

Charley no, not actual giants, just tall people!

Grey hair - I'm going to get dh to double-check mine to ensure it remains grey-free. I would like to hope that I remain raven-haired for as long as my Mum - even now aged 57 she only has a few grey hairs - but I fear I won't get that lucky.

Coop, fabulous news, you must be so pleased. Legs crossed til June 6th!

These birthing balls, are they not just really annoying to have around the house because they take up so much space?

Lua · 06/05/2005 22:38

Coop - Soo glad your birth experience is looking brighter!!!! Keep these legs crossed!

Charley - cap?! Can you tell I am a hair dye virgin?? So do highlights coverup grey pretty well? I never find time to go back to the salon... Am terrified of ending up a slave of it because roots starting to show up...

I am sorry to break the news trib, but complex genetics has this name because it is complex!
DD, was born on the 95% percentile for height and 50% for weight. Thank goodness 25% for head circunference!
DH and I are above avergae in size, and now at 2.5 DD is this tiny petitte little girl on the 25% percentile for evrything! There is ONE person in each side of the family that is small... The overall types usually win, but I hope the giant genes haven't been stubborn and hang around for your sake!!

uwila · 06/05/2005 22:48

Ah, the nanny. Thanks for asking. It has all just about fallen into place. Current nanny's last day is one week from today...

Speaking of nanny, I learned from her just the other day spinach deplete your calcium levels.... hmmmmm... says Uwila... Really? How's that then? Jeez I can't wait until I don't have to pretend to believe this malarchy.

I have hired a new nanny to strat in mid August, when I return to work. She is young (22), has experience working in a nursery, and is from Canada. I have high hopes!!

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 06:33

Morning all
Glad Nanny is sorted Uwila, sounds promising.
I thought Spinach was full of calcium..... How odd.
Sun is shining again today. DD has a party to go to so we will be getting ready for that. DH got up at the normal time today as he thought it was Friday ha ha. I did giggle when he came back to bed and told me. I had wondered where he was off too.....

Cooperoo · 07/05/2005 06:37

BTW Just looked in my 'Vitamin Alphabet' book and Spinach has 600 mg of calcium per 100g. This is very high as I suspected. (Cheddar cheese 800mg and yoghurt 170mg, whole milk 120mg for comparison). Sorry couldn't help myself but look that up and the book was right behind me. I can't say I have ever read it but it is useful as a resource and to prove annoying nannies wrong....

tribpot · 07/05/2005 09:17

Sorry Lua, I got lost at the complex in complex genetics so I am sticking with my parental height theory for now Plus I don't really know what these percentiles are, I assume someone in the hospital will explain them if it's important?!

Lucky you to be nearly free of the nannythug, Uwila. I had to have my MIL banging on yesterday about how I must increase my intake of essential fatty acids if I wanted to have any hope of getting through a week of work next week. I didn't have the heart to say "I've worked through some of the worst hangovers known to mankind before now, I'm sure pregnancy isn't going to finish me off". (I am expecting to be v tired, though, essential fatty acids or not).

Oh well. I've dragged out my MumOmega supplements to save haring around Leeds looking for almonds and avocados.

Have a good weekend ladies!

uwila · 07/05/2005 10:11

Oh Trib, do you want me to go ask nanny about the side effects of fish oils? God only knows what they do to your calcium levels. I'm begining to question the quality of Estonian education when they were under Soviet occupation. Okay, so I'm not really just now beginning.

Actually, I take fish oils every day because they are said to be good for bub's brain development and I am sooooooooo bloody tired. So I would not hold out a lot of hope for your mil's theory.

PS We had eggs for breakfast this morning.

JonahB · 07/05/2005 11:46

Hi All,

Mrs F . This is the only time in my life when my boobs have been smaller than my belly. I?m not used to people?s eyes going that low .

Lua, I?ve still been colouring my hair and had no side effects. I asked my hairdresser and he said it was nothing to be concerned about. However, the colour I use on my hair doesn?t contain bleaching agents ? don?t know if that makes any difference

Trib, lol at hobbits. I?m a hobbit too. I?ve been telling the DH for years that the only reason I married him was to have normal sized kids. However, regretting that train of thought now when I realize I could potentially be having a normal sized baby . I?m dreaming about a dwarf, like me.

How does everyone know the size of their babies? No one has ever mentioned baby?s size to me. Is this info from the mw or from the scans?

Coop, congrats on your good news. I?m sure you are so relieved.

Not sure who was asking about birthing balls, but I?ve been sitting on mine (the argos one katz mentioned) for the past few weeks, and it?s really helped with my back ache. Plus, I amuse myself by rolling it down my narrow hall and landing in a ten-pin bowling fashion. Ah, the little things that keep me occupied......
