I don't htink I'm gonna be able to keep up much over the next few days, we a full on here.

Brilliant news Uwila about your cs!!! 19th of May, bloody hell, rather thee than me though atm, for obvious reasons!!!

Charley, so you're going for the Maya? Pretty much decided? I know you have a tendency to change your mind at the last minute I will get that too I think, but I'm just gonna buy it new, unless someone is selling one on here. As you know I' still haven't dabbled in ebay and can't be arsed to start now. It will get used next time too

Right I gotta go and see what dd is doing, she's obsessed with her 'water can' atm, I bought her a little one the other day... probably go up and find the kitchen flooded

katzguk · 06/05/2005 09:10

its okay uwila i'm keeping my legs crossed, i want to enjoy all four weeks of maternity leave that i have booked before my due date, so i'm not really any competetion!!

Jonah - the hours are the same here but they don't apply to Dads, they can coem in as early as 8am and stay as late as they like i think they like to kick them out at 11pm. The hours are for all other visitors, they don't want the ward full in the morning so thats why they make it sound so strict and make ti look like it applies to the daddy's

welshmum · 06/05/2005 09:25

Jonah I so understand your feelings about the visiting hours - the prospect of this really upset me last time. What happened in reality was so different. The dads all used to arrive really early and stay way after hours - until 10, 11pm. This lax attitude to the rules saved my life really - I hope it's the same with your hospital too.

Uwila - congrats and hurrah - so pleased you didn't have to get heavy with them. All the best with getting your head round the date and the build up to it - I found it odd last time knowing when it was all going to happen.

Lippy - you sound like you've turned the corner on the build front - well done for putting it up with it for so long - you must have the patience of a saint.

MrsW I salute you and your stomach - that sounds like a fantastic meal to put away. Sigh

Well it's my last day. Mixed feelings - mostly happy as I know I need to concentrate on the new baby a bit more than I have and it will be great to have some time to get the things sorted out I need to. BUT I know how much I missed work last time and I got a bit lost about who I was - felt pretty isolated. Anyway hopefully everything will be a lot better this time around.
Have lovely days all x

katzguk · 06/05/2005 09:30

my last day in work too!! yeah!

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 10:12

morning all,
lippy-great news about the building work.it'll be so nice to get your house back to yourselves and have no dust flying around
uwila-im so pleased you got what you wanted and only 2 weeks to go-OMG!!!
jonah-know what you mean about dh's/dp's.i asked my midwife the same thing last week and she said they can stay(overnight) on the labour ward(however long it takes)but not on the post-natal ward which he probably wouldnt want to anyway seeing as its full of women and babies, but hopefully we wont be on that ward for long so i dont actually think it'll be that bad
welsie and katz-hope you both enjoy your last day at work today.i cant believe i've been off for 2 weeks already

Yay for Uwila's caesarean! Yay for everyone finishing work (except me, harrumph) and fingers crossed for Coop, hopefully it will all work out for the best!

Dunno about these hospital visiting hours, I completely ignored them when dh was in the hospital and just visited all day with him (in fact I spent more time lying on his bed than he did). Unless I'm missing something obvious, how is anyone meant to get any sleep on a post-natal ward?

Oh dear, I treated myself to a maternity swimming cossie as we're staying in a hotel with a pool in Leeds - and only the bottoms have arrived! I think I shall have to improvise a top half somehow.

welshmum · 06/05/2005 11:27

You sound on good form KVG
Plans for next week include my pre-birth colour session with the hairdresser, a pampering mother- to-be day - organised by our Sure Start and free!
Have also got to sort my way through dd's old stuff to see what can be used by No2.
Shopping trip to John Lewis will follow - I've got a real thing about bedding and want to treat dh and I to some new stuff so that at least when I get to lie in it feels tip top.
Might go to the pictures too....and lie on the sofa....mmmmm

Lynny - rant away missus - you're welcome to rant here - don;t feel you have to take it elsewhere.

Lua · 06/05/2005 11:40

Morning all!
Very [envy} of Katz and Welshie! I am still supposed to work for 3 more weeks! I am not doing a very good job of it though....

JOnah, I've been worried about having DH with me too, and asked about private rooms in my last visit. They are actually not that expensive, especially if its just a day or so. Whta I didn't ask, is whether that makes a difference in the visitation times. But I assume it would.

Lippy, worray for having it all finished. I have been dealing with builders for only two week and I am already fed up! Don't know how did you manage all this time!!

Lua · 06/05/2005 11:48

Oh, and yes, Congratulations to Uwila on scheduling the CS! Now avoid all pineapples, curriea and you know what for the next two weeks....

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 11:57

lynny-i also feel like screaming!!
my cats bought in a dead mouse yesterday which dh disposed of but ive just been downstairs to find a live one in my extension.
thought i'd be kind to the mouse and try and catch up-what a sight that must have been, what with me running(ha ha!!)round and crawling on all fours but to no avail.the bloody thing ran under the sofa and when i looked it seems to have gone
after phoning dh and my mum i decided to put the cats out there to find it so im hoping fingers crossed they get it especially as my washing machine is in the same room
anyone want a couple of cats?!!!!

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 11:58

up=it

JonahB · 06/05/2005 12:36

Tea/Welshie/Katz congrats on your mat leave starting!! How exciting for both of you....

Thanks for all your feedback. I'm absolutely sure that these hours apply to DH/DP's. I triple checked (I was the annoying one asking lots of questions). The visiting hours for non-partners is between 6-8pm. It doesnt apply if you're in labour, but it does apply afterwards. So, if all is delivered by 5pm, they'll be kicking him out at 8pm. I actually used this as an example. Although, apparently, if you give birth at 7pm, they are allowed to stay a bit longer. Not sure where the cut off point is though

Welshie, I do hope you're right and these aren't actually a reality. However, I'm a bit sceptical about this as I watched the midwife manager actually telling other visitors off who hadn't left by ten past eight!!!

KVG - your tea sounds perfect.... Can I have that as well??

Aw, Bubb, live mice are such a nightmare. I sympathise. I've done the chasing a v. small, frightened mouse around our spare bedroom and they are a NIGHTMARE to catch. My DH stood in the middle of the landing and flapped, while I was doing all the crawling. Very helpful, i must say. Put the cats back in if you cant get it. They'll soon find it again.Cruel but sometimes a necessity.

mrsflowerpot · 06/05/2005 13:01

I've been reading but not posting for a couple of days (I can pretend to myself that I'm really working if I don't post), hope everyone is well.

Great news about your section Uwila, glad it was agreed harmoniously in the end. But OMG, you are having a baby in 2 weeks! that sent me into palpitations. I have to see the consultant about my decision 2 weeks today, and I nearly died of shock when the midwife said "if you do go for a section they do it at 38 weeks", so only 4 weeks off - I actually said to her "I can't have a baby in 4 weeks, I have everything planned and I can't lose two weeks out of my schedule!" so now she thinks I am a control freak and quite mad. Slightly regret saying that.

Jonah, the visiting hours at our hospital are quite strict too, partners and siblings are allowed from 10 until 8, but there are only 2 one hour visiting sessions apart from that. I was terribly upset when I had ds when dh had to go home at 8pm, and they did send security guards round to empty the wards of visitors , but tbh I think it was actually worse for him, going back to an empty house. And this time I'll be lucky if he's there an hour a day, with ds to look after! TBH, although being in hospital was far from being the most pleasant few days of my life, there is quite a lot going on and you are kept pretty occupied with all the rounds and the routines etc.

I have suddenly become huge. People have stopped giving me that sideways look and started saying 'long to go?', then being really surprised when I say 6 weeks and not 6 days. I am actually starting to wonder if my maternity tops are going to fit by the end. But at least my boobs are smaller than my belly these days.

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 13:07

well...dont like to admit it as its sounds really cruel but i did put the cats in the extension, went to the butchers, got back and had one dead mouse on the floor and 2 smug looking cats!
not nice but it wouldnt have been nice if it had chewed any wires or got into the washing machine or anywhere else and i suppose it is instinct for cats to catch mice-just trying to make myself feel better about it!!

uwila · 06/05/2005 13:17

Hi everyone.

Bub, do you want to borrow my DD the mouse murderer?

I can't wait to go on maternity leave. No, I'm not there yet. I am working through next week. So I will then have Mon, Tues, and Wed. of the following week to hang out with DD and then go in for the c-section first thing on Thursday morning. But, ahhh, it's so nice to now have it all sorted. I know what the plan is. I'm happy with the plan, and the end is in sight.

And, Lua, I think I'm safe on the labour front. When I had the scan yesterday, I asked about my cervix, and she said it was still closed up and baby was not engaged. So, I'm hopeful that labour isn't going to happen in the next two weeks. Also, I don't believe the curry pineaple etc. myths. Tried them all last time and nothing worked.

Oh, and one of my favourite moments was ehn I asked about the umbilical cord. After DD was born I asked about it in Epsom, and they told me that it was impossible to see the cord on a scan and therefore the situation was entirely unavoidable. I have always regarded this as line of BS. So, yesterday, I said "Can we see the umbilical cord?" and she said, "sure" and pointed it out and showed us how it was all squished up in the corner and that the blood was flowing just fine, and so. Can't see it, huh? LIARS. I knew it. But it's really nice to know that it isn't wrapped around him so if I do go into labour then I don't need to panic about the possibility of him strangling himself in there.

uwila · 06/05/2005 13:22

Oh forgot to mention about visiting hours and private rooms. I had a private room in Epsom. The visiting hours were the same, but we found they weren't really enforced. I don't know if that was different from the ward. But, your DH can always just stay until they ask him to leave.

Lua, How are you doing these days? Sorry if you've typed this and I just haven't read it. But, I know you want to do things naturally, and I was just wondering if you have a big baby, and if so if that is going to upset your plans? Yesterday she told me at my scan that baby is now 6lbs 14oz. (at 36 weeks) I am truly puzzled by this. There are no big people in family. I wonder how accurate that weight estimate is. Anyway, it just made me wonder how your baby size to pelvis ratio is.

Lua · 06/05/2005 13:55

Uwila, let's just say that this guy has been responsible for my substantial increase of grey hairs! I would really like to have a natural birth, but am aware (even more this time around) that I will have to keep my mind open.... So far he is staying bellow 90% percentile which is where they start really worrying about, but apparently there a 20% eror in the ultrasound estimates.... so who really knows?! There is a thread on big babies, and I agree with many people said: size per se is not necessarily a problem. Managemnent is! So.. FWIW...If anyone here suspect they are having a 10 pounder, do not let MW "accelerate" things by giving you a drip! That's when they get stuck!

BTW - really nice to know that the chances of double cord around the neck is pretty small!

Lua · 06/05/2005 13:57

Talking about grey hairs.... I really would like to cover them - but am worried about the chemicals on the dye (never done it before !!).
Does anyone have an opinion on it? Is it better to wait until bubba is out, or breast feeding would also be bad?

uwila · 06/05/2005 14:02

Well, in light of my recent budget crunch, highlighting has been removed from my routine beauty treatments. But, to be honest, I have never suffered any consequence of highlighting during pregnancy. I think some people worry too much about things that aren't actually a problem. But, then again, I still eat peanuts too.

The downside of giving up highlighting is that I have just been reminded of the grey hair that is no longer being covered up...

welshmum · 06/05/2005 14:03

I remember reading that hair dye was now thought not to be a problem in pregnancy. Sorry can't remember where Lua.
I'm afraid that I've been busy getting my done throughout - although with Aveda stuff which has very, very little that isn't 'natural' in it.

tribpot · 06/05/2005 14:04

Lua, I think nowadays they say not to worry about hair dye, even during pregnancy.

Btw, I just read elsewhere that drinking a lot of milk can contribute to having a large baby. That sounds like rubbish to me, what does anyone else think?

bubbaloo · 06/05/2005 14:10

lua-my hair has been pink all the way through my pregnancy and i did check with my doctor first, just to make sure.
as long as the baby doesnt have pink hair then i'll be happy
