Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

kitkat, I read your other thread about 'the sunburn situation' and I don't blame you AT ALL for being upset xxx

sheenaisapunkrocker · 29/04/2009 18:45

Hello all,

I've finally found you (I'm crap at navigating this website). I've lurked lots and posted a bit on the homebirthing thread, but knew that there would be a Due in August thread somewhere; It's only taken me 20 weeks to find it!

I'm due 2nd August, so must be 26 weeks now (keep loosing track). Up until this last couple of weeks I felt like I had been pregnant forever and that it was never going to end, but suddenly it all seems frighteningly close. I'm taking July off work as annual leave, so only got 2 months left to work.

This became a stark realiity to me on Monday when my wonderful, supportive colleague demanded to know that I would have prepared next year's teaching/assessments etc before I go on leave. After all, I have known that I am going on mat leave for a long time so I have had adequate time to prepare. That was right before she informed me that I would be back in time to do my marking this time next year.

For once I was grateful for my AND, as I have so much on my mind anyway that she almost didn't feature on my radar of things to worry about! Whatever happened to the sisterhood, that's what I'd like to know?

Hope you are all having a better time, although I know that I'm not the only one with work hassle from the posts that I've read.

Will look forward to getting to know you all know that I know where you are. xx

Hawkmoth · 29/04/2009 19:29

Welcome Sheena.

Work is so hard to manage when pregnant. For me it swings between being a mild irritation that I could do without, to being the centre of my focus and bringing with it huge amounts of frustration and blighted ambition.

Anyway, it seems the last bit of mystery has gone out of my relationship tonight. I plucked a hair from his earlobe, and he set about removing the big black hairs from what he affectionately terms my "crab ladder" . This testosterone surge has made me quite hirsuit.

HeinzSight · 29/04/2009 19:51

crab ladder

Hi Sheena

kitkatqueen · 29/04/2009 21:35

Hiya Heinz, thankyou for siding with me on the sunburn - after the accusations of exaggeration I didn't even dare post on there the number of breath-holds he has either had / i've averted since and he's still pink so it wasn't just a little bit... It has not been a good week on that front. My terrible sense of humour has probably just got me in trouble tho for a comment I just left on there tho Beyond caring TBH

Hawk!!!! WTF is a crab ladder?????? Should I even be asking????? suddenly feel very gauche and niave(sp?)!!!!!

Sheena Welcome, have added you to the list!

Has everyone remembered that the Health in pregnancy grant can be claimed from 25 weeks??? £190.00 and its not income related... If u don't know about it ask your midwife...

Well done kitkat for mentioning the health in pregnancy grant. Some women haven't been told about it. I hope your DS recovers from his sunburn, poor little chap. x

kitkatqueen · 29/04/2009 22:29

Ahh.. I'm looking forward to mine, been counting the weeks Trying to work out if i can pay it into paypal...

Have concluded that the only things I really need to buy this time round is a new reclining high chair approx £90( dd1 just jumped on ours and broke it) a kolcraft double buggy approx £230.00 on ebay and i've been contemplating one of these..

very cool baby mattress

and thats it. Don't need anything else for bubs really, so I am feeling justified in buying another couple of pairs of maternity jeans I've got about 20 pairs in the wardrobe and they are nearly all too big!

What are you planning on using as a buggy heinz? We have a similar gap in 3 and 4 don't we??

thoughtforms · 30/04/2009 08:30

Just in case you haven't all spotted, Mamas and Papas are doing a Bank Holiday 5 day sale, starting today - 30% off clothes (online too), and I was emailed an additional 10% voucher - for use in-store only.

This means I can now afford the 'burnout dress' which I'd wanted, but decided was a bit too expensive - hurrah!

HeinzSight · 30/04/2009 10:41

Thanks for that thoughtforms

Kitkat, I've bought a Phil & Teds Sport with double pack. There's no way I could cope with a side by side, I'm forever crashing into doorways with a single buggy, my poor children would end up with concussion if I had a side by side!!

cairns · 30/04/2009 11:03

Welcome Sheena. Sorry you are having work hassle, I had it too with DS1 it isn;t nice especially the later on you get. It got worse for me though as had quite a bit of stress on mat leave when they decided to change my role and refuse my flexible working request. I still think some people just aren;t as supportive as you think they should be when it comes to pregnancy, mat leave and flexible working.

Another crabladder confused person here.. now I am oh so curious what it is...

KKQ and Heinz - I too have gone for a PHil and Teds Sport, it just seemed the best option for me as want it as buggy like as possible as we do quite a bit of walking. I did have a dilemma between the vibe, sport and dash models though but came to the conclusion that despite the higher prices of the other two the sport was actually better for us. Not ordered it yet though, I'm always a bit last minute with everything (baby clothes will probably come out of the loft on my due date! )

No changes here, just curious about bump measurements and whether or not people are having them as I know it can be inconsistent if you get measured or not. I know I told everyone they think the baby is big. Went to the GP's and midwife seperately last week who both measured my bump at 30cm (at 25wks).. so they have again frightened me by saying after my next scan you must see us the next day. I was actually quite cool about having a bigger baby until they frightened me by acting concerned. Although I guess if they weren;t acting concerned I bet I would be annoyed with that too

Hawkmoth · 30/04/2009 11:08

'Crab Ladder', also known as 'Garden Path'. More commonly seen in BIG HAIRY MEN, this is a line of thick hair leading from the belly button to the top of the pubic region.

It's extremely unsightly, and ALL my hair is getting thicker and darker. I've been comparing growth patterns with DP on my belly, and it's not looking good!!!

Had two great nights' sleep and feel quite energised apart from the odd dizzy spell. Tonnes to do, paperwork wise, my arse is already numb!

craftynclothy · 30/04/2009 11:19

Hi Sheena

Cairns - I'm not being measured yet. Don't know when my mw's start measuring but the NHS ones here usually start around 30-32 weeks. Tbh it's not that accurate here; I remember last time my mw measured me 3cm big and said "Oh that's a bit big, I'll measure it again" and measured the right size . Also later scans can be very inaccurate in terms of size.

Prams-wise we're just using the one we had for dd. Have also got a sling for the new baby because I think in some places it will be easier (and means I can chase after dd if needs be )

Have finally got a HiP grant form. My IM hadn't received them, nhs community mw wouldn't give me one (and lied about why ), rang the helpline who said they'd contact my IM and send some to her...then they rang back and snottily checked her address with me and asked all about why it's not a doctor's surgery address then told me that my mw already had some forms (must have arrived since I asked) wtf?

Had really bad heartburn yesterday but a Gaviscon tablet helped. Dh managed to get them from the corner shop.

martinemorris · 30/04/2009 11:25

Hello,

Im the same as Sheena, finally found you all. Am due on 8th August and it cant come quick enough. This pregnancy has been a total nightmare.....

Have had SPD since 12 weeks, am working F/T, and have a 2 1/2 year ols so i finally manage to sit down at about 9pm each night...
Went to the physio on Wednesday and got told tthat if i dont slow down ill end up with a slipped disc!!!

Anyway enough of my problems, hope everyone is well and look forward to getting to know you all.

Anyone in Kent??

Martine xx

Hawkmoth · 30/04/2009 11:43

Welcome Martine.

Sorry to hear about your SPD. Mine flared up at 8 weeks this time, but am doing ok now because I don't do anything! Not good for poor DD and DP but this time last pregnancy I was signed off, in agony and just sat getting fatter and fatter for months so I suppose in the long run they will both forgive me!

sheenaisapunkrocker · 30/04/2009 12:12

Hi Craftynclothy

Hi Martine,
sorry you have SPD. Is your physio good? I investigated SPD as I have back pain and I was led to believe that treatment/manipulation and sometimes suport belts can be massively helpful. My back problem has not been formally diagnosed as SPD or PGP, but I am now seeing a (frighteningly) expensive osteopath which seems to be keeping things under control (a bit). It's so frustrating isn't it? I am not physically able to do the things that I am used to being able to do and it's hard to accept.

A pillow between my knees in bed is very comfy and I've just invested in a really little square cushion with a velcro leg strap (very attractive ) - not quite as effective as my pillow, but at least it comes with me when I turn over.

martinemorris · 30/04/2009 14:10

Hi Sheena,

My physio is amazing. She is at The Portland and heads up their physio department, so is used to dealing with pregnant ladies....I did try another first of all who was completely useless.....plus I really think my GP thought i was mad.....Fortunately for me it is covered on my insurance...

Arent body pillows just a life saver??? I dont think i could do with out it at the mo...

kitkatqueen · 30/04/2009 14:44

Hiya haven't read all, but cairns Don't worry about a big baby they will monitor things and probably give you a glocose tolerance test but TBH big ones are sometimes easier - mine was and he was 9lb versus my previous 6lb15oz Dont Stress!!

becksydee · 30/04/2009 15:41

sorry everyone, i'm really stressed out today and need to have a moan

  1. i've had to go up to birmingham twice in the past week, once for personal reasons (i own a house up there which i let out - current tenants are moving out today so needed to get the place looking presentable and show round prospective tenants at the weekend) and once for work
  2. because of 1) i have been sleeping really badly & all the decorating, housework and travelling hasn't helped the SPD one bit. i know i've been overdoing it, but in the absence of a decorating and housework fairy, not sure what else i could have done
  3. prospective tenant came to sign the contracts last night with her guarantor, but brought confusing and contradictory paperwork with her re: her housing benefit claim. she said she was going to go and get some new paperwork sorted today & have someone from the job centre ring me to confirm stuff. was going to put keys in the post once i'd heard, but it's now 3:15 and she hasn't replied to my text asking how she's getting on with it, so looks like it might fall through & i'll have to go through the palaver of more viewings etc.
  4. woke up really stiff and in pain this morning. thought a bath might help but then it took me about 5 attempts to get out of said bath. have had to work from home (not that i've done much work) today because i couldn't get down the 2 flights of stairs to leave the flat.
  5. have had really bad heartburn all day despite only eating 2 bits of toast
  6. i'm really behind with work and severely lacking the motivation to do anything to remedy this
  7. the final straw today was when i received a letter from the hospital, out of the blue, with an appointment to see a consultant in perinatal mental health in july. now, the possibility of seeing a midwife who specialised in mental health was fleetingly mentioned at my booking in appointment 13 weeks ago but i have heard nothing since then, and assumed they decided not to bother. it hasn't been mentioned to me at any appointment since. the letter contained no information other than the date and time of the appointment. nothing about why, what to expect, anything just working up the nerve to ring the hospital and ask for an explanation (without crying, raising my voice or doing anything else that might indicate that i'm in any way differently sane). by the time the appointment comes around i'll be more than 7 months pg anyway, if the intention is to offer me mental health support perinatally then they're leaving it a bit bloody late imho

that feels better

have been trying to keep up with this thread whilst i've been on the move but have only had my phone for internet access so not v easy, will attempt another read through later on.

TaleofTwoCities · 30/04/2009 15:56

Hi all, sorry about the absence. Last couple of weeks all focus has been on ds starting school and dd starting nursery. Have been lurking but no energy to post!

Crafty what sling have you got? Got to get one I think after gave the Baby Bjorn away a year ago. I was thinking something like a Moby or a wrap one (more comfy?) but not really sure... Have to rush between ds's school and the nursery and so will need dd in buggy. Don't want to get a double as she'll be near to 3 and we live in a village with small shops. I guess the buggy board is an option too with new baby in a pram but they don't allow buggies into school so can imagine the hassle of having to take new ds out of pram every time I need to go inside the building..

V. annoyed that didn't get the HIP form sorted at my 25 week appt - it was with the GP and he didn't have any.. he did measure my bump which was 25cm so looks ok.

Am starting to worry now - how to cope with 5 yr old 2 yr old and baby and how to juggle the finances and about returning to work after maternity! It all seems frighteningly real suddenly!!

Hi Martine and Sheena

craftynclothy · 30/04/2009 16:11

TOTC - We've got the Close one. I fancy a wrap sling really but I wanted something dh & I could try on and there was a local shop that stocked the Close sling. Have to say I quite liked it - was v easy to put on and adjust and it fit both of us. Only using it until baby gets to 6-9 months sort of age as we have 2 Mei Tai's that we'll move onto then.

BD - at your appointment. I saw the doc about 3 weeks ago now and was told they were referring me to the midwife that specialises in supporting women with AND (and other stuff too) to see how she could help me and I've heard nothing from her .

LittleFairySmile · 30/04/2009 16:29

Some people being badly treated here by our health care system! Hope it all sorts itself out for you guys.

Can't wrap my head around everyone's posts, but am checking in to say 'hi'.

BabyBump2B · 30/04/2009 17:20

Hi Everyone! Welcome Martine & Sheena!

Sorry to hear about all of the work and SPD/back pain - thats terrible!

Am slightly at the HIP but then I think we get better government pay during mat leave so I'll bite my tongue!

I have to say I am in a BRILLIANT mood today because I can say, that for the first time in almost 15 weeks DH is at work today . A lead we've been chasing for months has paid off and although the work is freelance they have been very kind to him and incredibly helpful (I wish we knew about them 2 years ago!) He's booked a job today and Monday and the two days combined pay more than 2 weeks at his previous job I told him this morning that if it keeps up I might not go back to work ever but he was a bit LOL!

So all good here - oh and my bump looks cute and round today and not as blob-like as usual which is a lovely change!

Hawkmoth · 30/04/2009 18:30

Glad for your news BabyBump2B.

Becksydee, sorry you are having such trouble with your SPD. I'm only having the odd twinge now and again, but I feel like such a fraud as I'm doing no driving, housework, lifting, walking or anything else on my feet.

I love my physio as well. NHS obstetric physio at Fairfield in Bury. They have two, both of whom are godesses as far as I'm concerned!

sheenaisapunkrocker · 30/04/2009 18:42

The NHS is a bit ropey in places isn't it? I have to say that it came as a rude shock to me as I've never really needed it before. I had to make a lot of fuss to get a referral to mental health services and in the end up my independent midwife helped me by doing lots of ringing up and chasing. Since then I have to admit to resorting to paying for the health care that I need (osteopath for back pain and counsellor for AND). Seems wrong and I know that I'm really fortunate to be in a position to do this.

I'm really annoyed on behalf of everyone who needs support and just can't access it. God I'm grumpy! Sorry. Will try harder next post.

Craftynclothy - I'm interested in your sling thingy, seems like walking the dog on the moors would be easier with baby in a sling rather than a pram. Would you show me at one of the choices meetings?

duchesse · 30/04/2009 19:28

Ok, is anyone else here playing the "viability game"?

24 weeks and 4 days = baby Arf has a 46% chance of survival if born now.

I'm warped, I know.

He/she spends most of the time trying to kick his/her way out anyway and is beginning to remind me of my son during pregnancy rather than my daintier daughters.
