Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
craftynclothy · 21/04/2009 16:12

Sarah - at your mw. FWIW I didn't do the nct classes (for some strange reason my postcode was shoved into the Dewsbury nct rather than the Leeds one back then so I didn't think it would be much use to me - giving birth at a Leeds hospital and wanting to meet people in Leeds!) but I know many people who did and they all found them a great way to meet friends. My SIL still meets up regularly with her group (her dd is just over 18 months) - oh and she had an epidural and certainly didn't feel she'd failed in any way. IME the nct seem very open about freedom of choice rather than saying one way is the only way.

Hawkmoth · 21/04/2009 18:37

Yank, your MW doesn't sound overly helpful.

My friend did NHS antenatal classes and made LOADS of friends through them. You could do both if you have the time/energy.

I only went to one class when I had DD. I was a single parent and all the doting couples were horrified looked down on me a bit.

I went to physio today. Lucky really as I was in agony this am when I woke up - trapped nerve or something. My back and front joints had to be realigned, and yet again feel tonnes better. I LOVE my physio!

DP's got a new job! Much better pay and more exciting for him. The first one he applied for (they took 5 weeks to shortlist). I'm so proud of him, and pleased to have a few more pennies around the place!

kitkatqueen · 21/04/2009 18:50

Craftynclothy!! Congrats on a girl!! There are some gorgeous girls names on ther names threads atm !!

OP posts:
YanknCock · 21/04/2009 18:55

No, MW definitely not helpful. In fact, I think I hate her. She's the same one that asked if I'd considered a termination when I was quite obviously having ante-natal depression.

DH refers to her as 'Pauline' out of League of Gentlemen (more her manner, not that she looks like a man in drag). I prefer to imagine her and the BMI-obsessed registrar having sex. My own little rebellion in my mind.

I will go to the NHS classes as well as the NCT ones, but I must say I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be better to go into this with few or no expectations.

Hawkmoth, great news about your DP's new job!

BabyBump2B · 21/04/2009 20:28

Hi All!

Crafty congrats on the girl! The pics are so sweet!

Yank - your midwife sounds terrible. She reminds me of the one I hate at our practice. I'm sure she'll be the one who ends up delivering for me and I'm sure we'll have words!

Hawkmoth - great news about DP! Wanna send some of that luck this way?

I've had a great few days - I walked 10k in an hour 45 with another preggo friend and then we had a little birthday BBQ for me on Sunday and it involved 8 little ones under the age of 4 and 5 pregnant women - we're going to have to rent a hall at Christmas at this rate!

I've also been given a bag of free mat clothes and some shoes which is brilliant as we DH still out of work we're skint.

The sun is shining too (finally) which is putting me in a great mood!

TheCollection · 22/04/2009 00:09

Hello everyone. New to mumsnet, just wanted to add my name to your little list ? EDD 15th Aug, the scan says it?s a girl.

craftynclothy · 22/04/2009 10:40

Hawkmoth - congratulations on your dh getting a job. Glad that the physio is helping too.

KKQ - I'll pop and have a look at the names board then cos we're having problems thinking of girl names - was difficult enough last time. For some reason dh & I have very different taste in names for girls yet agree on boys names .

Welcome TheCollection

Hawkmoth · 22/04/2009 11:52

BabyBump2B sorry your hubby isn't having much luck. DP works in Education, non-teaching so there are actually quite a lot of jobs about these days. Schools seems to be employing lots of people, like to cover classes so they don't have to employ supply teachers, and staff to deal with behaviour issues so the teachers can just teach. Also due to the target-based nature of schools these days (sigh) there are jobs for keeping attendance and exclusion within acceptable levels... it's just the luck of the draw that he's in an expanding field at this time.

Welcome TheCollection, congratulations on your girl.

Re names for girls, we had picked Catherine if that helps! With Ivy (gran's name) or Iris as a middle. We're all flowers in this family!

YanknCock · 22/04/2009 14:00

Christ in a sidecar!! Woke up this morning to find my left boob had sprung a leak in the night, and there were dried spots of boob juice all over the bed!

Do I really have to start sleeping with a bra on? Really?

Welcome to TheCollection!

Hawkmoth · 22/04/2009 14:47

That or change the sheets regularly!

Careful with blouses too, you'll be leaking at baby lotion adverts before you know it!

I didn't leak at all last time, this time I think I'll have to start wearing pads fairly soon. I'm so sexy I have to pinch myself (sigh).

kitkatqueen · 22/04/2009 21:46

Yank nearly pmsl!! go to asda and get one of the cheap 99p shower curtain and bung it on the bed ( if crinkle noises bother you put a thick blanket on top and then your normal sheet. Oh the joys of motherhood!! (as a friend of mine once said nothing worse than the smell of gone off milk in yr bed!)

Funnily enough I noticed last week that my milk had changed again, up to 12ish weeks it was normal milk and from 12ish up until 22 weeks its been colostrum, ds is much happier now its gone back to proper milk again and I seem to have loads so i'tll probably be me leaking next!

Do any of you nappy ladies have a preference on washable boob pads?? My washing machine has eaten a few sets and I won't go back to disposables for anything!

Welcome thecollection!! crafty Good luck on names me and dp can think up loads of girls names but we always get stuck on boys!!

Trouble is that not only do we have an awkward surname but we like names that are a bit different but not completely unheard of iykwim?

I have just had to ditch my entire list as it was all girls names. So I offer it up to any takers... ( this is where you you all boak!)

becksydee · 22/04/2009 23:33

kitkatqueen - i've just bought the emma-jane nursing bra kit (someone on the pregnancy board posted that birthease were doing a special offer on birthing balls, so bought a few extra bits to get free postage). it comes with 6 washable breast pads with a diddy mesh laundry bag - which should in theory stop your washing machine eating them. kit also contains 4 bra extenders and one of those feeding side reminder wrist band thingys. i needed some bra extenders anyway so the kit worked out to be quite good value.

going to try and catch up on last 4 pages of this thread now

becksydee · 23/04/2009 00:12

rachel1963 - that was indeed my DP! his arm is feeling less sore now, but at his fracture clinic appointment the other week they told him that a piece of bone might have chipped off he's got to have some kind of scan to confirm, and if that's the case he'll probably require surgery to fish it out, which would kind of suck

hawkmoth - congrats on your DP's new job!

looks like there are quite a few of us in/within easy travelling distance of london ... so ... anyone up for a meet in london?

my news: went for another scan yesterday afternoon to check on the size of the baby's ventricles and i'm relieved to say that everything is now fine my cervix is also long enough, or something - w00t! tis good to know, i suppose. i've got my 22 week midwife appointment on monday, and then, all being well, i won't be back at the hospital for another 6 weeks! which is good, because i feel like i've been seeing far too much of that place lately.

i saw the hospital physio on friday about the spd - she hadn't received my referral but when i phoned to chase it up she said i could come to an advice class she was holding that afternoon instead. it was pretty useful - got a chance to ask some questions and try out some exercises. if things are still bad in a week i can get individual physio within 2 weeks. also got a support belt (a huge bright white thing, not at all conspicuous!). luckily my DSis has now sent me her nice thin black support belt which is fab - i can pretty much walk around without pain now. getting some deferred pain in my bum, but am seeing the osteopath tomorrow after work so will get a nice bum massage some soft tissue work done on my glutes to sort that out . feeling a bit chirpier because i'm sleeping better too - only having to turn over 3 or 4 times in the night now instead of 10+.

anyway, time for bed now. night night all.

kitkatqueen · 23/04/2009 09:48

Fabulous Becksydee, thankyou - off to do some shopping!! I actually had my washing machine replaced by the manufacturer - when a machine is eating age 3-4 t-shirts there has to be somthing wrong!! My new one doesn't eat anything!! ( unfortunatley that does mean more to put away )

OP posts:
cairns · 23/04/2009 10:09

Beckysdee that is great news re the scan and the SPD
KKQ - lovely girls name list, we have the same problem with boys names though. Last time with DS we had no girls names but had a boys name(luckily we had a DS), and this time it is the other way around.
hawkmoth - Yeah to your DH, fab news what a relief

Well come out in a rash yesterday all over my bump and is very very itchy, anyone else had this. I suspect it is prickly heat due to the weather (although I haven't been hot or really in the sun much as I tend to burn as soon as I see it). but it hasn;t improved so am off to see the docs this afternoon just to be on the safe side. I think I might have missed a check-up appointment anyway, that I was supposed to have at 24 weeks.

KKQ - I have a few types of breast pad on the shop .

I like Katherine, dh likes Kathryn as a girl's name so still undecided. My aunty keeps ringing me with all the names out of the paper and is getting on my nerves - I think she has this idea that we must give our child a posh name so she can pretend to be posh or summat ...not sure it would fit in round here

thoughtforms · 23/04/2009 17:17

Just updating the list, as it's probably a girl for us! I say probably, as they couldn't spot any boy bits this morning, but couldn't say 100% - we've booked a 4D scan for 6 weeks time though, so hopefully that will confirm it one way or the other - plus hospital want me back in 12 weeks for a growth scan, so I'll get to see baby again another 6 weeks after the 4d. Ohh and little one squirmed and wriggled around today loads! Oh it was so cool to see (and a great birthday pressie too!)

Hi quick update, just got back from the docs, apparently it was an allergy to something. Very weird as I don;t usually get allergic to anything.

Have also been told to see the midwife next week to check the rash and because the doc said I looked about 1 month too big (mmm I think she was politely saying I am a heffalump), so they might need to bring the growth scan dates forward.

thoughtforms well done on the girl, at the 4D scans, but it is lovely to have all of the extra scans.

olivo · 23/04/2009 19:43

evening! have just read the thread and promptly forgotten everything i was going to write I do apologise - my memory is terrible at the moment!

had my scan yesterday and all was well. didnt find out but am sure it is a boy. seems to be quite big but am booked for a scan at 36 weeks after problems with dd's size and position. baby was really active and rubbing its eyes and sucking its thumb.

hope everyone is feeling well.

LittleFairySmile · 23/04/2009 20:33

kitkatqueen you have the same washing problem as me ? it?s not getting things washed ? it?s putting them away! You should see my mountain of clean stuff! And interesting list of names, very unusual. Do they have meanings, or did you just like the sound of them?

olivo I know what you mean about reading through and forgetting what to write. That?s partly why I?ve not been posting much lately! Baby brain has really set in for me!

Take care all.

thoughtforms · 24/04/2009 08:30

cairns - I'm lucky, it was a birthday present though (from my husband!) - although I'm selling lots of old records and CD's on ebay at the moment to help fund it! (as I need to clear some space... I've a couple of thousand CD's which really need to go before baby comes.. yikes)

olivo - congrats on the scan!

TheCollection · 24/04/2009 10:42

Hello everybody, just wanted to have a bit of a whinge: in the past few weeks I went from ?Are you [sure you are] pregnant? Where is the bump?? to not being able to fit into any of my clothes, if I continue at gaining at this rate I'll have to start walking through doors sideways or something...

But mostly my whinge is about maternity clothes which are overpriced and a bit rubbish: I bought myself an Isabella Oliver skirt, which is very comfy and now one of only two things I can fit in, but I paid something like £55 quid for it and to be honest it looks like I bought it in Primark? Any recommendations for good /stylish maternity clothes? Hidden gems that we might not have heard of?

Clairedaz · 24/04/2009 10:54

Hi all, agree with The Collection concerning clothes.

I don't want to spend loads but still want to look stylish (yummy mummy not slummy mummy) but where do you go.
Went into next and you can only buy there clothes on line - I want to be able to go into a shop and try stuff on not wait for it to be delivered then have to return.

Have bought a couple of bits from ebay and by luck they are ok, some from new look, H&M have nice reasonable clothes but this store is not in every town.

Am in two minds after baby is born to open maternity shop covering all styles and all prices.

By the way my EDD is 14 Aug.

BumpVLump · 24/04/2009 12:01

Hi to all, how are the bumps today?
I am feeling very stretched and already wondering how my body is going to cope with being bigger. Smothering my bump in oil at every opportunity.
Sleep is not going well with me. I nod off ok, then wake up with these vague leg aches in the night (usually after my 3rd loo trip!) and can't get back to sleep.
Also never had problems with my back and it is awful at the mo, so hard to get comfy lying down, or sitting, or standing come to think of it. Oh, I do love a moan!!

Totally agree with you girls about maternity clothes...most of them are awful and there's not much choice.
I have to agree that H and M were prob the best for me, and at least they are reasonably priced.
