Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ScummyMummy · 16/04/2009 16:46

Hi crafty- I think the risk of limb malformations is past now- our babies have formed their arms and legs already. From a quick google Amitriptyline is considered likely to be pretty safe in the 2nd trimester. Is the doc thinking about you using it longer term? I think the only major evidence against it is from animal studies where it was used at very high doses. As one of the older anti-ds it has more evidence than some others re pregnancy and is generally considered one of the safer ones. I guess it really depends how much the anxiety is affecting you day to day- it can be so debilitating. Sorry you're in this dilemma in the first place.

craftynclothy · 16/04/2009 17:00

She's given me a month's supply and told me to take it in an evening. If I feel it works well and I don't need to take it every day that's fine. The only problem with my anxiety is it's putting me off getting in the car (am fine once I've set off) so am not getting out v often but, saying that, I know not going out did contribute to my pnd last time.

kitkatqueen · 16/04/2009 23:03

Oh craftynclothy - talk about stuck between a rock and a hard place! I am so sorry that you are going through this stress! I think scummymummy is right looking at the info, high doses and long term seemed to be the explanation on most of the sites I checked.

However if the thought of taking the meds is going to make your stress worse, have you considered hypnosis? or has the gp referred you to a councillor? or homeopathy?

My gp once referred me to a councillor after I suffered from a series of heavy duty panic / anxiety attacks that stopped me from going out - it was a very long time ago. I originally thought it was absurd, but it did really help me. I was taught to do positive reinforcement techniques and although it took me a while it really, really helped. After a couple of months I got through it and never looked back. I really hope that you can sort this and feel happier

hope I haven't said anything to upset/offend I seem to be opening my mouth and changing feet atm can I blame it on pregnancy??

Congrats to everyone on their scans and a very big for "twins" being missed off the notes, that is v bad!

hello to all the lurkers who haven't posted for a while, hope u r all doing ok..

OP posts:
Hawkmoth · 17/04/2009 15:14

crafty, have you had Amytriptiline before? I was prescribed it once after some botched dental work (long story, they thought it was psychological pain ) and it really didn't suit me.

I wouldn't have been able to drive on it as it made me so incredibly dopey and lethargic.

Hope everyone's ok? I've attempted to murder my boss using Olbas Oil fumes today, but it didn't work, and I spent two hours taking dictation whilst breathing through my mouth. Why am I making another germ-ridden child???

But, what a gorgeous day! When I get home I'm going to sit in the garden with a nice cold small glass of beer

BabyBump2B · 17/04/2009 17:37

Hi Everyone! Sorry you're having such a rough time Crafty!

Congrats to everyone who's had scans and found out genders!

quixotic We're in Langley! Walnut Grove to be exact. We had hoped to live in Vancouver as well but it was just too expensive and too small but am loving life in the valley. I just realised Mumsnet charges for the opportunity to email other members so my email address is emily (at) spiltmilkmoms.com if you want to drop me a note - I'd love to meet up when you get out here. We've got another British/Canadian couple round the corner from us and a welsh couple across the road!

Well I am so glad its the weekend and its my birthday on Sunday so I'm looking forward to having our friends round for a BBQ (unfortunately it looks like its going to rain!) Have a great weekend everyone!

craftynclothy · 18/04/2009 10:51

Quick update. Hawkmoth - they don't agree with me either! Decision has pretty much been made for me. After reading the leaflet with the tablets that said "not suitable for 1st or 3rd trimester" I was planning on seeing how it went until Monday (have a birth debrief session at the hospital on Monday and it means driving into the city centre, struggling to find a parking space, etc.). Well took one Thurs eve and felt crap on Friday morning but thought it might have been what I'd eaten for tea. Took another tablet last night...my god...I've hardly slept and at half 5 this morning I had PAIN, knew I need the loo, moaned and screamed all the way to the loo . Sat on loo with bucket in front of me (felt sick), leaning on dh. Was just (tmi) poo & wind but at one point I was starting to panic I was gonna go into labour - that's how strong the pain was. Ended up in the bath to ease the pain and still ran to loo an hour later. DEFINITELY NOT TAKING ANOTHER ONE

ScummyMummy · 18/04/2009 20:11

Jeez, crafty- how awful. Hope you're feeling better soon. Amitriptyline is also used as a pain killer, I believe, and is supposed to have a sedative effect so it doesn't sound like it works for you at all!

Happy birthday for tomorrow, bb2b. Love your scan photos.

Feeling v pleased with myself as have cleared half the disgusting overgrown garden today and made partner attack all the weeds with weed killer. I want to sit in the sun breastfeeding come August but was worried we'd never get round to getting the garden clear. Next step is the oither half and then I have to decorate our room and work out where to fit in cot etc.

LittleFairySmile · 18/04/2009 21:15

Oh Crafty, how awful. Hope all gets better soon.

kitkatqueen · 18/04/2009 21:45

Thats really crappy crafty, deffo sounds like they don't suit you! Were any of the side effects listed anything like that? Hope u r feeling really positive on Monday and make it to your appt.

Happy Birthday bb2b!

Evening.

Well I felt better after a bit of sleep and some toast this morning.

Eventually made it to the Baby Fair that's on this weekend and couldn't resist finding out the sex - www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=246854&id=827920485&ref=nf pics are public at the mo if anyone wants to see. Be warned though...my 'naughty' GIRL liked to give us the V

ScummyMummy · 18/04/2009 22:32

She looks so sweet, crafty.

kitkatqueen · 19/04/2009 00:02

Crafty, pics are gorgeous!!! Congrats on a girl!

OP posts:
Hawkmoth · 19/04/2009 12:44

What great pictures crafty

Sorry to hear about the tablets. I guess it would have been nice to have the effect they have on me instead - 18 hours' sleep!

I'm off to a band concert now for St Georges Day. I booked it, and insisted on free beer and food for the band, in return for a reduced fee. I think that's fair!

I'm a bit sunburnt from yesterday, I forgot how quickly the sun gets to you when pregnant . I've been worse, but not in the space of 40 minutes eating sandwiches... in April fgs!

thoughtforms · 20/04/2009 08:38

aw, I can't see the pictures, it tells me to log in to Facebook, and I don't really do social networking any more!

Had an interesting shopping-around weekend just gone - found out that Ikea do two packs of baby sheets (for the same size of a standard mattress everyone does), for just £6.99 for two - rather than say, Mothercare and their £12.99 for two - and Ikea have baby sleeping bags too, which are again a good price (around the £10 mark). Has anyone used these before, and are they as good as the more expensive ones, or do you have any horror stories? I bought the sheets anyway, a sheet is a sheet, isn't it?

Anyway, thought I'd pass it on!

We've got our scan on Thursday. God it's gone so quickly up until the weekend, and now it feels like the lonnnngest wait everrrr. Little one keeps giving me some good kicks, and husband has felt a couple of them now - last night I was laid flat-ish (not completely flat), and felt a sort of stitch like pain on my left hand side - like baby had kicked one of my internal organs or something?! Weirdness. Does anyone know what it could be? Google keeps telling me it's the ligament pain, but I know it isn't, I'm almost certain it's baby playing in there.

Joy of joys, I've started to get some pelvic girdle pain (that's the only thing it sounds like - like my bum has a giant bruise across the bottom of it), but I did a few exercises and the pain seems to have gone, thank goodness, and sitting upright and straight as often as I can. I also can't stand for a long time - which should be fun as tomorrow night I'm out at a gig, so let's see how long I last for that one.. unless I can find a chair. Bah!

readyfornumber2and3 · 20/04/2009 13:33

Hawkmoth I know what you mean about the sunburn, I have got a very sore back today after spending a couple of hours in the sun yesterday!!

I saw the midwife today and got to hear 2 lovely strong heartbeats again.
I am getting alot of kicks now and they are strong enough to be felt by DP

I went to a cafe with my Mum this morning and when we were paying the lady said " Not long to go now" It was priceless seeing the look on her face when I said I was only 21 weeks lol
She looked quite relieved when I told her it was twins

nellyup · 20/04/2009 15:04

ready I had a very similar experience yesterday - and I don't even have the excuse of twins, am just enormous. Dh managed to cajole me into going to church with him and the dcs and an old dear came over and said 'ooh, the happy event must be any day now'. I gave her a very grumpy glare and said 'No, August actually'. Her face was a picture though

olivo · 20/04/2009 20:19

just dropping by to say hello; just back from our holiday and catching up, but straight back to work tomorrow

hope everyone is ok; my scan on wednesday, really anxious i have to say. am absolutely huge already too!
will be back when i've caught up with all the msgs on this shiny new thread!!

cairns · 20/04/2009 20:28

Hi Ladies

Sorry not been on for a while, been on holiday (only in the UK nowhere glam) and then have just been hectic with visitors since getting back. Will catch-up with the thread and gossip, looks like there has been a little less activity though, so shouldn;t take me as long as last time I was away.

Things progessing nicely here, I too feel the size of a house and all clothes now officially make me look like a heffalump. Feeling lots of strong kicks too. Starting to get quite a few aches and pains now too, probably due to overdoing it a bit.

I'm finding that being pregnant is great at the moment for getting DH to do stuff, have just had him digging all the concrete up and demolishing an old shed in the garden, putting a bit of fencing up and making the garden more toddler friendly. Starting to feel a bit guilty about it though as the concrete took two days to dig up......nah being pregnant doesn;t last long and I plan to take advantage of it if I can

Had some bad news re MIL though, she is quite ill at the mo and we suspect that her cancer may have returned, she has had cancer twice before, tests are on Wednesday so fingers crossed. It really does make you think, I know I struggle when she visits, but I really do value DS having such doting GP's.

Re baby sleeping bags, I use the original grobags as they wash better and last longer than the cheaper brands ( I have found anyway). They are quite pricey new, but you will find loads on ebay

Hawkmoth · 20/04/2009 22:07

Cairns, sorry to hear about your MIL.

I'm catching up in the bump stakes this week, after worrying I was a bit small. The last two days have been quite painful and stretchy round the sides, and I'm going to have to start wearing my support belt if I want to stand up for long!

craftynclothy · 20/04/2009 22:21

Cairns - sorry to hear about your MIL. Fingers crossed she gets good news.

Re: Grobags - we had a variety of brands all of which were cheaper than the official grobag ones. Some of them were better than others, the main problem being that some shrank quite a lot over time (wasn't a problem with the smaller sizes but the 18m - 3y size was particularly bad).

Had a birth debrief at the hospital today. It answered a few little niggling questions I had, felt I gave them a 'truer' picture of what happened than the notes (cos the notes are just factual iyswim), felt they had made various changes to improve things and also feel much happier about going there if I needed to transfer in (the team leader gave my IM her contact numbers and told her if I needed to be transferred in that my IM could call her any time day or night and she'd make sure everything went smoothly for me).

Hi everyone, I haven't kept up very well! 22 weeks today.

I'm finally not puking daily or every other day. Seems to have settled to twice a week with bouts of nausea inbetween. And I can eat Indian food again!

Baby boy now moves/kicks every day. DH still hasn't felt it, but I think I have too much padding plus the anterior placenta. I've gained 4.5 lbs from my starting weight, so not doing too badly.

Still off work due to ante-natal depression and SPD. Finally had my long awaited appointment (4 weeks!) with physio, only to be told I'd been refered to the wrong place and would need to be sent back to GP/midwife to be referred to the obstetric physio at the hospital who also runs a pelvic pain group. Apparently they should have done this right from the start, so the physio I saw wrote them both a slightly snotty letter.

On new anti-depressants and feeling slightly better, though I suspect a lot of that is due to not throwing up so much.

MW is labeling me 'socially isolated' so I guess I'm not allowed to count mumsnet? Told her I was going to be attending NCT classes, and she completely slagged them off. Apparently I'll be made to feel bad if I don't 'give birth on a single puff of gas & air'.

Sometimes I wish I could just go into a coma until baby gets here.
