Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CoonRapids · 12/06/2009 19:04

That's great new Hawkmoth! I've been wearing my flower power maternity smock top today. But think I'm going to stick to black from now - loads of comments about looking bigger. PLus a neighbour who hadn't noticed the pregnancy before said 'oh are you having another baby?' 'Was it intended?'...'You're a glutton for punishment.' Nice . Can imagine will be the gossip of the street now, 3 children in a terrace house, terrible. I want to move!!
CR (TOTC as was)

kitkatqueen · 13/06/2009 10:06

HEEEEY HEINZ!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,

Happy Birthday Heinzsight Lovely day for it, hope you're having fun!

Thanks KKQ

Hawkmoth · 13/06/2009 10:34

And sorry, thanks Coonrapids.

Cheeky neighbours! Ours only talk to say either, "hello" or, "please don't park outside my house". People have started to ask me how long I've got to go now though - I'm quite sticky-outy!

kitkatqueen · 13/06/2009 10:50

Hey Coon, every time I get a comment like that I really want to reply with either..

"Well Its my dp you see he's just such a stud and the tv's on the blink" and wink at them

or

" I know 4 children and we're not even married its just shocking isn't it"

So far i've managed to keep my mouth shut but my terrible sense of humour will no doubt get me into trouble sooner or later

This morning husband of said neighbour passed us as ds was carrying in the new moses basket mattress and said 'oh a new ironing board eh'. They are mad!

kitkatqueen · 13/06/2009 16:50

coon - pmsl They are obviously nutters

OP posts:
duchesse · 13/06/2009 17:26

Or rather short-sighted...

duchesse · 13/06/2009 17:33

And am I allowed to say that I'm slightly cheesed off to have got through three pregnancies pile-free only to develop them in the fourth? They're not painful, just... bothersome iyswim. TMI, sorry.

craftynclothy · 13/06/2009 19:14

Hawkmoth - so pleased that you got such a good result re antibodies.

Duchesse - grr to piles.

Also grr to silly comments people are getting.

Had midwife visit today (was meant to be yesterday but she was at a birth). Everything fine and she's pretty confident that baby is head down .

CoonRapids · 13/06/2009 19:52

Duchess - I wonder if I have that too. Uncomfortable...

ds and dd nearly ran the neighbour over on their scooters earlier, hurrah! You don't see much of your neighbours in the winter and then in the summer everyone's out and about and you can't avoid them!

I wore black top today and at ds swimming lesson immediately started getting the 'oh you're not very big' comments. Much more comfortable with that as I just tell them all that it was exactly the same last 2 pregnancies and that my babies were both 7 pounders. Grrr, comments are part and parcel of the pregnancy experience it seems!

Crafty - that's good that baby is head down. I can feel feet or hands or some other body bits poking through bump at time, it's so weird. I think the bottom is towards the top, but it's hard to tell!

Hawkmoth · 13/06/2009 19:58

Thanks Crafty.

My baby's breech at the moment. Although it helps with my posture - you can't slouch with a head under your ribs, I've been trying some inversions today, with hilarious consequences. Poor DP will end up with a ruptured disc if he has to keep helping me up!

YanknCock · 13/06/2009 20:08

duchesse good news with baby turning!

trixy glad you're applying for the job.

crafty, I know it's pricy, but my osteopath was soooo worth it. She sorted me out in only 3 visits, I don't even need to go every week now.

Heinzsight Happy Birthday!

Hawkmoth, fab news re: the antibodies!

I've got a bit of good news myself.....I've sacked my horrible midwife! Can I remind you all of the last 5-6 months:

  1. On meeting me, no knowledge of my history (3 years of TTC + 1 miscarriage), asked me if I'd consider having a termination because I was upset about being sick (was suffering from antenatal depression).
  1. Completely ill at ease with mental health issues--thinks depressed=stupid.
  1. Annoying and patronising in all appointments.
  1. Tried to put me off NCT classes despite complaining about my social isolation. ('They'll expect you to give birth on a single puff of gas and air and will make you feel like a failure if you don't')
  1. Essentially told DH he wasn't welcome at NHS antenatal classes ('Now I'm not trying to put you off, but we do worry the group might not "gel"....I guess you can come to the first one and we'll see how it goes')
  1. And the final straw....took my blood pressure with standard size cuff, despite my protestations that I need a large size due to big arms, and standard size will give false high BP. Told me it didn't matter. GP and NHS guidelines disagree!! Was 140/70 with wrong cuff, but a few days later at GP was 110/70 with appropriate cuff. Grrrrrrr.

So I finally said enough, fuck her, and phoned up the community midwives supervisor and said I refuse to see her again. Should get a call next week to confirm where I'll go for next appointment and NHS antenatal classes...because it ain't going to be with her!

Such a relief, wish I'd done it earlier.

duchesse · 13/06/2009 20:43

Yank- Gee you got unlucky there with your midwife. She sounds like a fossil peach! Is she stuck in the 1970s or something? Sounds like a very good idea to get rid of her.

Haribosmummy · 13/06/2009 21:01

Gosh! Yank - just read that list... No. 1 s truly SHOCKING... I didn't find out I as PG with DS (who is now 1YO) until I was 22 weeks PG and I remember clearly a GP telling me I didn't have to have the baby, they could organise a late abortion for me if I didn't want to go through with the baby....

Now, Yes, it was a shock and Yes, I was in tears, but I'd just seen my baby on a bloody monitor. The idea of getting rid of him (for I was told he was a boy at that appt) was simply appaling. It almost feels like an insult to your baby, doesn't it????

Though, to be fair, I rather agree with her summation of the NCT... I got run out of my class for admitting that I was planning an elective CS on a Saturday morning so that DH didn't have to worry about taking time off work... To say that didn't go down well is a bit of an understatement!!!

Anyway, you will feel a million times better with a midwife you feel listens to you!

How is everyone else feeling? GOd, can't believe it's only a matter of weeks now!!!

HM

kitkatqueen · 14/06/2009 02:23

Yank, Your midwife needs to be reported for the comments / practises she has carried out with you.

Its not acceptable and the least that she needs is a "basics" refresher course regarding the cuff. Her manager / whatever needs to be told about her using the wrong equipment and she should really be investigated re the abortion suggestion. If she has problems dealing with mental health issues then that needs to be addressed - rapidly!

Personally I would write a letter to the health trust.

Good for you for deciding to do something about it, that is realy positive yank.

Is anyone else having problems with the baby pushing on their ribs? My bottom rib on the left is being pushed outwards by the baby's feet every time I try to sit down (agony). consultant says the baby is very well grown -but wouldn't comment on size, would only repeatedly say "very well grown " in a warning sort of voice Have been for gtt and am now waiting for results.

OonaghBhuna · 14/06/2009 09:00

Well I have spent the weekend getting my bag packed, getting the childrens stuff packed and arranging plans with family if anything happens over the next few weeks. I think the babies head has moved but the feet are still right down below my c section scar.My bump is also alot lower it looks like its hanging.I suppose I notice these differences after having two children.
If nothing untoward happens over the next few weeks I will be giving birth on the 14th July.At first I was really angry about this date but now I just want this date to be tomorrow.
I just wish I didnt have this worry hanging over me, I have been with my consultant on and off for 6 years now through infertility, miscarriages,1 emergency section and one elective so I know that when he is concerned its genuine.

Anyway, I hopw everyone has had a nice weekend.

ScummyMummy · 14/06/2009 09:23

Oh Ooonagh, that sounds worrying. Poor you. You are doing brilliantly though- the baby would be extremely likely to be just fine if he was born now, even if your waters do go. Hope the next few days are peaceful and relaxing against all odds and that your (great sounding) consultant has got it wrong for once.

I have bloody awful hayfever exacerbated by trying to clear up a bit which released clouds and clouds of dust... If we succeed in getting this place ready for a newborn by early August we will deserve housekeeper of the year awards.

nellyup · 14/06/2009 11:12

Oonagh, I do hope everything turns out OK for you. But very glad to hear you've got a consultant you trust, that's worth a lot.

Reading everyone else's messages makes me realise I really must get my bum in gear and make some preparations as due date is now less than 6 weeks (by scan date) and I strongly suspect this one isn't going to be as overdue as my other two.

We have been doing up the room which will be shared by the older two and have carpet and bunks arriving this week which is exciting. And braved IKEA yesterday for storage stuff for them - wasn't too bad in the end but what made me laugh was the sheer quantity of other hugely pregnant women, there were more there than in the antenatal clinic!

cairns · 14/06/2009 11:38

Yank good on you for taking action, ur midwife sounds a horror. Thankful that I don;t have the same problems. I have also started NCT classes again this time as the NHS ones in our area aren;t so good and for me it is the best way of meeting other mums with a new baby. Mine is a refresher course so everyone on them has a toddler and a baby to look after which will be great as we'll all be able to support each other a bit more. In my area they aren;t all ' natural birth' gurus they are quite chilled out which is lovely. One thing they did make very clear which is worth remembering is you have full rights and don't forget that if at any point you are not happy with your midwife/care (even in labour) you can request and be granted a change. It does happen and the important thing is that your DH is strong enough to follow through and force the request if it happens when you are in labour.

nellyup LOL at Ikea trip, that happened to me last time I was there. Haven;t dared brave the trip this time as it is sooo busy.

oonagh fingers and everything crossed for you.

Well nesting has truly kicked in here. I have spent the last few hours in and out of the office, tidying it so it can accomodate a sofa bed (so we can use as a spare bedroom) and downloading all my CD's to itunes (I should have done this years ago) and then packing them away in boxes!!. Plan to repaint the shower room ceiling this afternoon too... hmmmmm and yesterday fully deweeded the garden and tied all the climbers back.
Haven't packed bag yet, but went shopping yesterday for all provisions, so likely to do that today too.... and I wonder why I am exhausted in the evenings.

makipuppy · 14/06/2009 15:14

Hello, can I join you?
I'm due August 26th, so perhaps a little way behind some of you. It's our first and we're moving house in a couple of weeks - so I'm looking forward to watching doing some serious unpacking followed by an enormous Ikea shop.

CoonRapids · 14/06/2009 16:45

oonagh - good luck, sorry to hear of the worries. Am so rubbish in the heat that have ended up buying 2 more pairs of maternity cut-off trousers. Can't bear my jeans anymore and some of my other trousers just feel like they're falling down all the time. Can't wear a belt, either not long enough or uncomfortable... Felt like a waist of money with only 8 weeks to go and it being a last pregnancy.

But on the other hand, feels like the end is a long way off. Both my others were overdue. I've got to start training up my replacement at work tomorrow. I haven't the energy for it!

Hi maki - sounds exciting about the house move.

CoonRapids · 14/06/2009 16:45

A "waist" of money?? Talk about being belly obsessed. I'm still losing the plot...

makipuppy · 14/06/2009 18:00

I can't contemplate wearing anything other than my H&M maternity skirt - I only take it off to wash it. I've got a work trip on Tuesday so I'll have to drag out my black dress which makes me look like I've got a cushion stuffed up my front.

Thanks for adding me Duchesse! I'm nearly at the end, so I'll have all your combined experience to work with..
