Hi all,

So sorry to hear about all the back pain and your sore wrists Yank. I'm counting my blessings that the back pain has been very intermitant.

On the ball thing - I am in love with them. In fact my job had to replace my chair with one on the recommendation of the midwife and it makes life so much more comfortable. (Although I have to remember that I can't cross my legs LOL!)

Haven't packed my bag yet but I have no idea what to put in it do any of you who've been through this before have some suggestions? I feel a bit lost about it (although do have a bottle of champagne on ice already - a girl needs to have her priorities straight!)

A friend of mine had her little girl yesterday and we got to hold her when she was only 3 hours old. To die for adorable! I can't believe how sweet she was. Although I nearly died when my friend pointed out I was next!

readyfornumber2and3 · 09/06/2009 17:48

Babybump2b I have packed two bags, one for me and one for the babies.

mini toothpaste
mini shower gel

anti bac hand gel
face wipes
5 pairs xl granny pants
cheap pair of slipper/flipflops
comfy going home clothes
notebook and pen

BABIES:

I will also grab some snacks and water bottles on the way out the door too

Hope this helps but I bet other people have better lists lol

valz - another snorer here, according to husband dearest. He wears earplugs though, as we have neighbours on either side who make noise, and it drives him mad (I have tinnitus, so can't wear earplugs to block out noise, it makes the ringing louder).

Well, had my diabetes check today, and I've been put on Metformin in the morning and evening, which will hopefully even things out - my blood sugar levels just weren't playing ball one bit - I could eat the same things two days in a row and get completely different readings.

I get a growth scan on Thursday too, so get to see Madam again and check she's okay.

Mildly funny today - they had no record of me having an appointment, so I sat in the waiting room for two hours (long waits are apparently normal in the diabetes clinic), and by the time I was seen, and they checked her heartbeat - she gave a nice big defiant kick! Well, it made me smile, anyway... mother and daughter annoyed with the system....

Haribosmummy · 09/06/2009 21:59

Hi all!!

Can't believe some of you have packed bags - that is so organised!!! I haven't even considered it!! There again, I didn't last time either and DH had to go and buy everything for DS after he was born - I'll be more organised this time!!!

How is everyone feeling? Does everyone have a shortlist of names? We have a few, but I agonised over names for DS before he was born and then we changed to something completely different (which he suits completely!) when he arrived, so I'm not getting to stuck on one name!!!

readyfornumber2and3 · 10/06/2009 07:17

Haribosmummy We did the same thing with DS, we knew we were having a boy so had a shortlist of 3 names when he was born but when he was 3 days old he was crying and I used a name out of the blue to comfort him and it suited him perfectly so that was that lol
This time I know what middle names I want to use but havent a clue for the first names and its even harder because we need to find one of each lol

Hawkmoth · 10/06/2009 09:40

I must pack a bag! I have a list, and a bag, but it needs to be consolidated.

I'm at work and feel totally spaced . These tablets are good... but they need to be! DP, Mum, Dad and colleagues all 'advising' (with differing degrees of sterness) me to stop working. I could hardly wash myself in the shower this morning - PAH!

Have added pics of me and DD to profile. Feeling a bit brave today, and they were taken by a great photographer at a civil partnership I went to recently.

I thought we had a name, but DP seems to have gone a bit cold on it recently. DD wants to call the baby Ben, but won't work with surname!

trixymalixy · 10/06/2009 11:55

OMG, can't believe some of you have packed bags already!

I think I'm just in total denial about the fact the there will be a baby arriving in around 2 months.

I have bought nothing, planned nothing, packed nothing!!

I guess this is baby no 2 so have most things, but I just can't believe how quickly the time is passing by.

My tip for your hospital bag is to get your DH/DP or birth partner to pack the stuff in it himself/herself.

My DH sepcialises in "man looking" and it was so irritating last time knowing that something had definitely been packed, but him unable to find it as I was otherwise occupied!

HellHathNoFury · 10/06/2009 13:34

I haven't even thought about bags.

I was 3 weeks overdue last time and am just a bit non-bov.

My mother is nagging me asking for keys to be cut etc etc etc so she can babysit while I am in labour, but frankly it all still seems so far away!

I AM looking forward to mat leave though - the house needs cleaning!

Forester · 10/06/2009 13:52

I'm another person who has recently started snoring. I'd put it down to hayfever - even though I normally don't get it - until I read that it was probably pregnancy related. I would never have guessed that there could be a link.

Trixy - sorry to hear that you are losing your job. I'm actually in the opposite position - I'd like to get a pay off as I've got a bit bored with work and it's also a very unfamily friendly role. But doesn't look like there are making any more redundancies for the moment.

kitkatqueen · 10/06/2009 13:56

Hawk, please say your surname is Ten.

HeinzSight · 10/06/2009 14:08

or.... Dover

sorry, I apologise for bringing the tone down

VJaybigpants · 10/06/2009 14:25

i need to buy a bag first before I can even pack it. we had a big clear out recently and we threw out a lot including bags, but they were a bit crappy...why am I going on about bags

Saw the mw today she took loads of blood then injected me in the bum with anti-d, nice

As for manes, we have 4 and I've decided to wait until he's born to see which one he suits

ScummyMummy · 10/06/2009 16:00

4 manes? Are you giving birth to a foal, vjay?

VJaybigpants · 10/06/2009 17:19

Lol manes , that has made me chuckle thanks....

MrsThePoint · 10/06/2009 17:40

Just had a laugh at thought of vjay foaling!

Wanted to say you have all inspired me to get my act together. I sent DH into loft for baby things about two weeks ago, but they have all sat in their boxes, unopened and unsorted.

Today sorted out clothes/bedding etc. for keeping, just need to wash them now. Need to decide what to do with clothes I'm getting rid of, will prob. do NCT sale.

Have also written list of what I need now for my home birth 'supplies' box and for my 'just in case' hospital bags (one for me and a separate one for baby) and have added what I've got lying around the house. Just now need to go buy whats missing.

So, we're now getting there!

kitkatqueen · 10/06/2009 18:07

Well amazingly I actually saw a really lovely consultant at the hospital today when I went for my grp b strep assesment, she said that she felt as dd1 had been tested positive after she was born she would be happy to give me the antibiotics in labour if I wanted them so it was just a case of "yes please" After all the squit I had with the last consultant too!!

Make sure you add straws to your birth bag list, - invaluable it means you can have a sip of water no matter what position you end up labouring in.

kitkatqueen · 10/06/2009 18:15

BTW!!!!!!

If you are due within 11 weeks and are in the UK DON'T FORGET TO CHECK IF YOU ARE ELIGABLE FOR THIS!!!! sorry about caps but its £500.00!!!!

The Sure Start Maternity Grant, OK unlike the HIP grant It won't apply to everyone, but its best to check as there is a time limit on claiming.

BabyBump2B · 10/06/2009 19:28

Thanks for the list readyfor2and3 - I am such a planner but the bag just seems to be a step too far for my poor brain right now!

I too am apparently snoring but as DH usually wakes me with his snores I feel like its a nice little revenge package.

I'm having a wee freak out about names. We SO struggled to find a girl's name and finally agreed on one - then for some reason when we saw our friends' baby on Monday I started to panic that it wasn't the right name for our baby. DH is mortified because we can't agree on anything else but I feel that my original first choice (which he hates) might suit her better. I don't know. I think seeing the baby and knowing that I'm "next" has scared the bejeesus out of me!

Haribosmummy · 10/06/2009 20:59

BB2B - You'll know when you meet her

I had DS's name all picked out (even had bought letters for his nursery wall! ) but we came up with something completely different - a name that had actually been discounted MONTHS before!!!

DH and I are pretty agreed on a name that can be shortened to Millie (Emily, Amelia, Millicent) or Martha... but I'm waiting this time!!!!

Is anyone looking for childcare solutions at the mo? THere will only be 14 months between DS and DD, so we are looking for a part time nanny - probably 2-3 days a week... I think I've found someone who would be perfect - Local and with great references - but I'm a bit confused about employment status and tax!!!

I'm feeling very tired these days - it's not even 9pm and I'm in bed already!!!!

YanknCock · 10/06/2009 21:32

I've been allowed a brief reprieve from my splints and 20 minutes on the laptop to mumsnet order groceries!

Bags? Shit, when do I need to have this done? Will need to go back and read posts where people said what to put in them! Will the hospital let us take the baby home if the only thing we have for him to wear is a black babygro that says 'I listen to Led Zeppelin with my Daddy'? (we have our priorities, clearly)

Wrists feel a little better so clearly staying off the laptop is helping. Steroid injection has helped a bit. I just feel so completely useless wearing the splints all day! Am officially on mat leave now, and doing nothing but watching telly and reading books (and avoiding the laptop).

Tonight went swimming for the first time since I got pregnant. DH did not help matters by laughing at me trying to squish my bump into my two regular swimsuits. It was very hard NOT doing the breast stroke since that's the only one I was ever really good at. I had to stop a lot, but it felt good to to something physical and not feel my own heaviness.

DH is now giving me the look which means he knows I'm mumsnetting and not ordering groceries....till next time ladies.....

Hawkmoth · 11/06/2009 11:21

Well I've given up and rung the doctor for my sick note, which will start tomorrow. While I can't help but feel like a bit of a failure, I know it's the best thing. DP last night finally admitted how upset I'd made him by keeping working, and I feel terrible about it.

I really should have considered him a bit more when it came to making my decision. I was using all my free time to rest and recuperate so that I was well enough to go to work, and that's not how it should be is it? I kind of ignored the fact that he would hate seeing me in pain, and that I was prioritising work over family for the sake of my pride.

P.S. My surname is D'Straw...

HellHathNoFury · 11/06/2009 11:40

Hawkmoth don't beat yourself up.
We all want to do what's best and in doing what's best for one person, sometimes another one gets put upon.
One day he might lean on you for everything

I WAS in the same boat with terrible SPD, DH doing EVERYTHING but since being able to work from home and going swimming/physio I am a lot better now. Still can't hoover though, shame

Love your photos btw! You are v pretty!

trixymalixy · 11/06/2009 12:37

Thanks forester! Hawkmoth don't beat yourself up. Why struggle on when you're in pain, there's no prizes for martyring yourself. Lovely photos btw. I've only just got the surname thing doh, but PMSL.

I nearly called in sick myself today as every time I took a step it felt like someone was stabbing me in the fanjo with knitting needles. The baby must have shifted position as it suddenly stopped just as I was about to call the midwife.

I have parked somewhere really naughty at work as I didn't have a parking space today and didn't fancy walking up a big hill to get here!!

Yank that babygro sounds fab!!

Hawkmoth · 11/06/2009 12:37

Thanks I don't often do full makeup as I'm too lazy!

I'm doing the anti-feminist thing and making him a chocolate buttercream cake this afternoon to make up for it!

martinemorris · 11/06/2009 12:50

Hello all,

Sorry I havent been about lately but as you all know working full time and have a 2.5 year old are taking their toll on me.

Cant believe there are only 7 weeks to go!! Should I have to have a section then it'll be even quicker!! I cant believe how organised you are with packing bags..... I must say though that with my first I was packed with about 3 months to go!! lol

Anyway I hope everyone is OK and look forward to our impending arrivals!!
