HellHathNoFury · 08/06/2009 15:15

same, mine doesn't hurts when it clicks! How odd.
Bless your mum. Any comments about my wight will not be well received. Yes my BMI is 34, yes I have to mail order tents to cover my bump, but acknowledge it at your own risk.

Hawkmoth · 08/06/2009 15:41

I'm a size 16/18, my BMI is 34 too but I do not weigh too much for a bloody gym ball! I wouldn't mind if she hadn't been a size 16 as well right up until I was 15.

HellHathNoFury · 08/06/2009 15:45

Hawkmoth you must be taller than me or something, I dream of days when I was a 16, currently I am wearing size 18 trousers from Next which are too tight and a 22, yes, that's TWENTY TWO size top from dorothy perkins

(big boobs)

BabyBump2B · 08/06/2009 19:00

Hi ladies!

Hawkmoth - if you get a ball from a proper exercise place they should be able to hold big burly weightlifting men on steroids so don't worry - just make sure its antiburst. The other ones can burst under any amount of pressure!

We started our ante-natal classes 2 weeks ago. They're private and run for 6 weeks but one of the classes is a holiday so it will be 7 weeks iykwim. So far so good - very "natural" bent to it but the information is good. Most the women are very anti-epidural and I think I may be the only one who doesn't have a preference. Good thing about being the last of your social group to have kids is you learn that nothing ever goes to plan anyway! although I will be stating things like I want the lights out and want to be in the bath as long as possible.

Can't believe there's only 8 weeks to go! Wasn't I just 8 weeks pregnant?

HeinzSight · 08/06/2009 20:37

kitkat, you do make me giggle!! LOL @ front bottom!! I can't see my fb anymore!

Uki · 08/06/2009 23:10

Hi Everyone

hellhath_ i had a dream about having small boobs last night, i think i am a bit sick of the size of mine mineI can not find tops long enough as the boobs take most of the material and leave nothing for the bump.

I'm a big fan of the ball too, very good for just sitting on with early contractions, alot of hospitals seem to have them now, which is good.

being winter here, I have got the dreaded flu, horrible coughing fits that end in massive migraines, really not fun as i also have no bladder control at all

starting to feel a little better but the dc's seem to have started with it.

How's everyone going with nursery's etc? I am starting to wash baby clothes and put them in draws, but have a few essentilas to buy very soon, mattress for bassinette, etc

I'm also thinking i should think about packing my bag [shock ] 7 weeks to go, oh my goodness

YanknCock · 08/06/2009 23:14

bah to weight limits on exercise balls. i got a rebock one from argos and am still sitting on it being nearly 18 stone would love to say all baby but have only gained 11 lbs so far.

supposed to be resting--wrists were so bad dh made me go to gp this morn. steroid injection in right, and big wrist splints on both with orders to rest. got some arnica gel from holland and barratt to try on left. if splinting/arnica doesn't work, gp will give steroid injection in left wrist too.

going now before dh catches me on laptop

apologies for rubbish typing

Uki · 08/06/2009 23:31

Yank poor you, wrist sounds painful. hope your better soon.

Mamamilla the ladies of aug 07 are asking for you to pop on and say hello

kitkatqueen · 08/06/2009 23:31

Oh yank thats not good, fingers crossed splints and arnica will do the trick.

Uki, I would pack the bag lets face it 37 weeks is actually classed as full term which gives you a potential of 4 weeks to go

I'm working on the basis that I will probably go overdue again but I am now 10 weeks off my due date - 12 weeks off my max date and I will still probably pack my bags in a fortnight.

I still need to buy a double rear facing buggy and I am now confusing myself by contemplating side by sides. Have found one that is only 78cm wide.... dillema.

Heinz - to be honest I'm starting to think i'm losing the plot! ok I've had a migrainey buggy thing for about 5 days but omg!!! I'm not normally quite this dippy!(It isn't anything sinister, bp is normal I checked )

Hi all x
Sorry to hear about those suffering with SPD I dont have any experience myself but know someone who ended up in a wheelchair for the last 3 months of her pg due to it

It seems funny to me that some of you are still at work because I got made redundant in february and havent worked since (was going to get something until we found out it was twins and then decided it wasnt worth the hassle and that we could afford for me to stay home)

I am feeling a little smug because I have my hospital bag all packed and ready (except for my hairbrush and toothbrush) lol but then again I am very aware that as its twins and I am now 28 weeks it could happen at pretty much anytime

Its weird because part of me feels like I have been pg forever and the rest of me feels like its getting a bit too close for comfort lol

Are these birthing balls really all that good? I never really got chance to try it with DS (3 hour labour) so may invest if it will be worth it

quixotic · 09/06/2009 09:15

Hello All,
Sorry the SPD is still nasty for some, and about your wrists Yank - what a nightmare.
I have been really tired, took 2 days off work and just slept last week. Got a call from the doctors that my blood test was back and to come pick up some iron tablets - guess that explains it!
STILL have not bought anything. This week I will start.
I also attended my first ever baby shower this weekend, great fun. I really do not have many friends with kids but everybody there was either pregnant or had a child under 5 years old. Lots of advice. Are baby showers pretty much the norm now? Was talking to my Mum about it and she had never been to one either.
ready when would you expect to have your twins, a lot before 40 weeks? What is the norm?

readyfornumber2and3 · 09/06/2009 09:21

quixotic They are classed full term at 37 weeks and my consultant wont let me go passed 39 weeks.
33-36 weeks is pretty normal for twins and my DP says that judging by the size of me he cant see me going past 34 weeks lol

TaleofTwoCities · 09/06/2009 09:42

Hi all - sorry to hear about the SPD problems. Is anyone else feeling really hormonal/down about leaving work? I'm a temp so basically my job finishes when I leave with no guarantee of getting it back (or and alternative job) when I want to start working again. I'm getting all upset about the arrangements they're making for my replacement and the fact that my laptop is being taken away and my email account being deleted. Need to snap out of it before my replacement turns up next week as I'm supposed to summon all my energy to train her up .

nellyup · 09/06/2009 10:02

ready I love my ball - must get mine back from the friend I lent it too. It's great not just in labour but for sitting on for short periods towards the end. Apparently its good for getting your pelvis in a good position to let baby engage but I just find it comfy!

So sorry to hear about those of you with aches and pains, must be very hard work especially if its hot.

taleoftwocities I'm not chuffed about leaving work either, but I'm self-employed so its taking nerves of steel to turn down commissions because I know I shouldn't be taking new work on now.

I had my VBAC appointment yesterday - predictably they told me I'd have to be in hospital on my back strapped to continuous monitoring. To which I said no thanks, I'm planning a home birth like last time and got various dire warnings about going against medical advice. It actually wasn't all that bad, at least this consultant wasn't outright offensive like the last one but I did go up to the cafe afterwards and had to walk past the maternity ward where I haven't been since I had my horrendous c-section 7 years ago. Right out of the blue it gave me a real attack of the wobbles, amazing how the smallest thing can set off bad memories isn't it, specially when hormones are a-raging anyway.

thoughtforms · 09/06/2009 10:15

quixotic - please tell me more about the baby shower! One of my workmates (without kids) keeps asking if I'm going to have one, and I have no idea what they involve - plus I'm not one for making a fuss!

It sounds like one of those American things we've kind of adopted over here, but it's not yet as big a deal, I think?

quixotic · 09/06/2009 10:45

Well - the one I went to they have been doing them for a while as a group. Before they all had small kids they involved a nice lunch and copious bottles of sparkling pink wine for the non-pregnants.

This one was supposed to be in the park but due to the weather was in someones house. She is having a girl so it was all pink balloons, pink flowers, pink cakes and pink sparkling drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Everyone left their children at home and we sat around gossiping, eating and drinking. Everyone brought a present for the baby and the Mum (something small), they were all wrapped beautifully and she opened them all and we ooh-ed and ahh-ed. Just a good excuse to get together I think, girlie and very fun.

mama2leah · 09/06/2009 11:25

hiya guys, re birthing balls, i lve them u can get cheap ones from tesco i brought it from there its anti bust, and has 2 sizes.

hope all is well...

valz · 09/06/2009 11:55

ready you've scared me abit, i havent one thing bought for the arrivals, not even a pram looked at never mine a bag packed for hospital, i was 30 weeks yesterday so i'll half to get my ass in gear and get meself sorted!!

Just a question for you ladies, have any of you started snoring recently? i never snored before and this past month or so my man is complaining that im snorin terribly and its keepin him awake! he had an early start for work this mornin and having already woke me to stop me snoring i obviously fell asleep straight away and snored again, the second time i woke to find him dressing himself for a sleepless night on the couch, cuz he said he couldnt sleep with the noise. I felt really bad but i dunno what to do about it! is this common and have you any remedies??

Hawkmoth · 09/06/2009 12:43

TOTC I'm very ambiguous about work at the moment. I want to stay in bed all day, but I'm also really vexed because someone left and I could have taken on more hours and responsibility but was immediately written off as a candidate. I've got two weeks now where the office manager is on holiday so I'll be in the hotseat, which won't be any fun at all.

valz I'm snoring too. DP thinks it's cute . He snores like a pneumatic drill, hopefully your fella will just get used to it... like us women have to do! The only time I notice DP now is just when I'm dropping off.
Been to see GP today who gave me co-dydramol (which I'm scared to take now with just me and DD here because I will sleep like I've never slept before!) and he was after signing me off work for the rest of the pregnancy. He said I can phone any time and he'll write the note - I was very grateful, though I suspect he thought I was mad.

Hellhath I'm 5'9" and according to that wrist size thing, large build. After DD I went up to a size 24 at 21/22 stone, so I'm a touch sensitive about it! Think I'm about 16 stone now, but I' haven't checked how much I've put on, as that would be toooo depressing! I got into my pre-pregnancy jeans two weeks after DD, but then piled it on while BFing because I was advised to eat 3000 calories a day!

duchesse · 09/06/2009 13:04

I'm self-employed (self-unemployed mostly since November, save for a few jobs), so am planning on working as late as I can. It's not physically demanding work, and I work from home, so can nap whenever I want to as long as I meet the deadlines. My only concern is when to give up on getting in any more jobs and go onto maternity allowance, or whether to hold out for as long as possible, knowing full well that if a lucrative job comes along a few weeks after this baby is born, then I will take it. I'm allowed up to 10 "contact" days during the MA period- it's just a bit of a gamble when I choose to take the leave. Ho-hum.

TaleofTwoCities · 09/06/2009 13:15

Hmm sounds like everyone has their work dillemas going on then! I'm aching now after a morning in my chair so just want to get to the end of the day and go home!

Dunno about snoring, have to ask dh! I woke up the other night twice though with agonising calf cramps, was yelping out with pain and scared ds. Touch wood hasn't happened again since!

We've got our buggy now and got a few things at the car boot on Sun in the rain! Bottle warmer and steriliser for a fiver + a galt play nest for another fiver and a few sleep suits.

Have a good afternoon.

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 09/06/2009 13:42

Afternoon ladies. Have (sort of) caught up on the thread. Sorry some of you have so many aches and pains. You have my sympathy - I never had much to complain about the last 2 pregnancies but am developing back ache, pelvis pain and a "dead" left leg all the time. I realise so many people have it so much worse but it's all relative !
This is the hardest, longest bit of pregnancy IMO - the first 4-6 weeks you don't even know you are pg so the last 4-6 seem to take twice as long!

33 weeks today here and I'm really beginning to feel it. I had a midwife appointment last Thursday and the head is engaged and I'm measuring 36cm - more . In my area we get sent for scans if 4cm or more over what the measurement should be. So the mw remeasured until she got down to 34cm! Neither of my boys were big (6lb7 and 8lbs) so I'm exprecting this one to come before 40 weeks...otherwise I'll be finished off!

This week is my last at work - thank god. It's the commute on the tube that is the worst, acutally once I'm here it's fine. An office job is so much easier than looking after a 4 and 2 yr old!

Next week I'm getting the enormous hold alls of baby clothes out of the guest room wardrobe and sorting through everything. DS2 has moved into his new room so I can unpack everything into the nursery. Last time DS1 was still in the nursery so I had piles of baby stuff all over the bedroom floor!
Oh and then pack the hospital bags - I find it easier to have a "labour" bag and an "afterwards" bag so DH isn't pulling out babygros whilst searching for things I need.

Can't believe it's getting so close...

craftynclothy · 09/06/2009 16:55

Hi all,

Yank - hope the steroid injections, splints & arnica help.

Birth balls - great for the latter stages of pregnancy, very comfy to sit on and help open pelvis up/encourage baby into position. Got mine from TKMaxx (£7.99 instead of £22).

Work - also self-employed and struggling to know when to start maternity leave. Plan was for me to start at 28 weeks, dh to run business on a volunteer basis in his 'spare' time but tbh not sure he's gonna manage to do things how I need them done and I'm having a "OMG my business is gonna go down the pan while I'm on maternity" panic . Not an option to not take maternity though cos I need the Maternity Allowance to pay the IM.

Not snoring here (but that may be cos of general lack of sleeping!) but DH is . Has just started in last couple fo months but thinking about it he had his nose cauterised a while back and I'm wondering if it's linked to that.

Really need to sort out washing baby clothes, putting them away etc. Also need to pack a 'hospital' bag - am planning a homebirth but should pack one just in case but I also thought that it's useful to have all that stuff in one place anyway so when baby is born I can just say "Pass the bag". Mind you I was Miss Organised last time and had hospital bag packed from about 28 weeks but still ended up doing the labour without it cos we left bags in car (was just getting monitored and expected to come home) and dh never got chance to get back down for them!

trixymalixy · 09/06/2009 17:03

Sorry to hear of those of you that are suffering with SPB and carpal tunnel.

TOTC I'm also feeling really down about leaving work as I have been there for nearly 10 years and will be made redundant when I go off on mat leave in just over 2 weeks time. I've done quite well out of it financially, but would rather still have my job to go back to. I feel like I'm being cast adrift with no safety net.

VJaybigpants · 09/06/2009 17:10

valz i'm snoring, dh bought me some of those nasal strips because apparently it's that bad
I'm stopping work on the 29th June, I'll be coming up to 32 weeks then, I have a weeks hol then maternity leave starts. I worked a lot closer to the due date last time, but this time I'm more tired.

I like the idea of these birth balls, my spd has gone up a notch today in the pain stakes, and the physio did suggest it, so I will go and get one now.
Also along with the spd I'm suddenly so tired, I was tired before but this is different. Spoke to the mw, who is coming out tommorow to take my 28 week bloods, even though I'm 29 weeks. She said it could be lack of iron, I hope so then it's simply a case of iron tablets, but in the mean time I'm trying to add as much iron as I can to my diet.
