Valz, Twins definatley the trump card you have one up'd her in one gestation . She is probably wondering if anyone will notice her singleton. All babies are special, but twins are sort of extra special, don't worry it will be fine. If its any consolation my niece was born shortly after my dd1 and I was a bit miffed that my sister would be stealing my thunder kind of thing, then my sister got pregnant again as soon as she found out I was having dd2, then after I had ds she managed to get pregs again after swearing blind that 2 was the perfect number. I know what you mean, but it was all fine in the end

( I think she chickened out when I got pregs with no4. She's a few years older than mebut I still wouldn't put it past her)

valz - my NHS antenatal classes started this week, my NCT ones don't start for another month - and I've got my hospital tour booked for 8 weeks tomorrow. Probably not much help there, but I got us booked up really early - I'm worried in the back of my mind that baby might come early due to diabetes, but we'll see...

kitkatqueen - thanks for the arnica note - I'm getting some tomorrow - I've been in hell, back-pain wise these last few days, where it's even stopping me from sleeping properly. Joy... - still, I will get some tomorrow! Thanks!

4D scan tomorrow! Hopefully we'll find out for definite that Madam definitely is a Madam, and not a Mister....

Oh, and does anyone have any Maternity Support band recommendations? I'm thinking about that as well, if the pain is as bad as it has been these last few days.

HellHathNoFury · 05/06/2009 20:15

thoughtforms, I have a support band from the physio, I can't wear it, it makes me feel sick, it's just too tight and restrictive.

But apparently some women love them, some hate them!

Hawkmoth · 06/06/2009 11:57

What miserable weather today eh?

I thnk I'm intellectually prepared for my antibody appointment and scan next week. Emotionally, not really (nightmare last night about them not treating my poorly baby), but DP will have the printout of all my questions and it under strict instructions not to leave until we have satisfactory answers to all of them. I imagine I'll be crying with frustration!

Apart from that and tiredness/skin-crawliness I'm not feeling all that bad at the moment. I'm so lucky that the SPD has turned out milder this time.

Thoughtforms you can buy them from mothercare, but I got mine free from the physio too, it's a bit uncomfortable though, I find I have to unstrap it whenever I sit down, then it's a bugger to strap back up again when I stand up. Oh the joys of pregnancy hey

ScummyMummy · 06/06/2009 21:42

Valz and ready- you absolutely won't believe what an attention and admiration magnet baby twins are, I promise. Your poor sisters/sister-in-laws will be well and truly trumped, I'm afraid. I honestly used to be embarrassed walking down the road with singleton parent friends- their (gorgeous) babies were completely ignored in the stampede of complete strangers queueing up to shower compliments on my boys. Grandparental pride was at stratospheric levels on both sides.

I'm feeling a bit tired and itchy (eczema on my hands has been quite bad throughout the pregnancy) today. Starting to get massively distractible at work too- my mind wanders off to baby imaginings every two seconds. I'd forgetten how that happens.

YanknCock · 07/06/2009 11:49

Antenatal classes--am starting NCT ones this Friday (finish end of June), then the NHS ones for four weeks in July. I'm a bit early for the NCT ones, but they didn't have any in July. Started an AIBU due to midwife trying to put DH off coming to NHS classes. Don't care, he is coming anyway!

I am having the most godawful wrist pain. At first I thought I'd bruised it, but it kept getting worse. Been a month now, and even keeping the splint on all the time it's no better. The osteopath tried to sort it on Thursday, but doesn't seem to have helped (but she's done wonders for my back and pelvis, so not complaining!). Now the other wrist is starting to hurt in the same place. Have google-diagnosed myself with De Quervain's syndrome aka 'washerwoman's wrist'. Apparently treatment is steroid injections, don't know if I could have those while pregnant. But if it keeps going like this I don't think I could even pick up a baby! Getting quite worried about it, as is DH. Am going to try to cut computer use, but what the hell will I do all the time?

kitkatqueen · 07/06/2009 13:53

Yank, speak to your osteopath and query de quervains with them and gp if possible. I discussed it with mine when he was treating my crash damaged arm.

Apparantly it can be confused during pregnancy with ligament pain so you need an expert to check it for you and if it is de quervains you need to be prepared that it usually continues throughout breastfeeding. My sister had it with dd1 vv badly but not with her other 2. I had it with dd2 but not the other 2. Really hoping its ligament pain rather than de quervains for your sake.

yankncock - I'm no medical expert - I've had a Powerball for a while now, and it's good for general wrist aches and pains (also good for carpal tunnel, tendonitis and rsi) - they're not that pricey either. It'd definitely be worth checking with your doc if they recommend you try this.

www.nsdpowerballs.com/powerball-for-rehab.html

This is one link which refers to the condition suggested -

virtualseconds.com/powerball-gyro-hand-exerciser/

(as an aside, I've got one, someone at work who had RSI has one, and a drummer who works with us also has one - all for different reasons, but we've all felt big differences when we've used ours)

Thanks for the info vjaybigpants - think I might head off to Mothercare in a sec, we've a nice big one around here...

duchesse · 07/06/2009 14:33

Yank- not carpal tunnel syndrome, then? I seem to remember it is a lot more common in pregnancy.

YanknCock · 07/06/2009 15:24

Nope, pretty sure it isn't carpal tunnel syndrome. I had a rheumatologist last year insisting I had CTS, and steroid injections did help, but the nerve conduction tests came out fine so was discharged due to moving up north. When I left my computer-based job and had a long break, the symptoms seemed to go in a few months. But it was completely different than what I'm experiencing now. Before I had numbness/tingling in my fingers/palm plus pain on top of my hand. Now I just have pain on the thumb side of my wrists and it hurts when I turn my wrists or pick up anything remotely heavy (1 full stoneware coffee mug and I feel it).

I told the osteopath my thinking on de Quervain's and she wasn't completely convinced, but agreed I was getting tendonitis symptoms from somewhere (she thought it was coming from further up my arm, as far as the elbow). Honestly don't care what anyone wants to call it, just want it to go away!

thoughtforms, thanks for the link, I will ask GP/osteopath their thoughts on the powerball.

kitkatqueen, that's really interesting! Will ask about whether this is pregnancy related ligament stuff, or just a fluke that it's come on now.

kitkatqueen · 07/06/2009 17:30

Hi Yank, I honestly thought with pregnancy no3 that it was back iyswim, but once the relaxin levels dropped the problem subsided and I am sure it wasn't dequervains because i'm still feeding him and its completely gone, fingers crossed its ligament pain from too much relaxin. Try rubbing in some arnica cream and if that doesn't work speak to your gp about using ibruprofen gel, can't remember the rules for that in pregnancy, I'm sure its ok for breastfeeding as my sis was using it. Hers was so bad that she quit b/feeding after 6 mnths and was using her right hand and left elbow to pick the baby up, up until then...

OP posts:
YanknCock · 07/06/2009 19:43

Thanks kitkat! I will try to pick up some Arnica cream tomorrow. I was also nervous when I read that about De Quervain's, I do really want to breastfeed!

Will phone osteopath tomorrow too. My SPD is already so much better that I don't need to see her every week for that, but she said to phone if I wanted an earlier appointment to deal with my wrists. I think I'll let her have one more go at it before moaning at the GP, as well as trying the arnica cream.

Re: the SPD, I wouldn't have believed it if you told me before the osteo, but I actually walked to the park today for the local carnival. We got drenched and I had to waddle back, but am so pleased because it's the furthest I've gone in ages! I'm quite slow and it takes about 4 times longer than normal, but I did it.

HeinzSight · 07/06/2009 19:50

Yank, sorry to hear you're suffering so much GREAT tip re the arnica kitkat, I had no idea it could be used during pregnancy. I swear by the stuff after my quick recovery from my c section.

kitkatqueen · 07/06/2009 21:17

Heinz did you use a homepath labour kit then? Am seriously thinking about getting one but no-one I know will rate how useful it was iykwim?

Thanks for bucket tip btw we don't have a wilkinsons but am determined to come up with a cheap one from somewhere

OP posts:
HeinzSight · 07/06/2009 21:31

kitkat, I didn't use a homeopath kit, didn't know such a thing existed! It was on advise from other mumsnetters that I bought some arnica, I started taking it a day or so before my c section adn continued after.

Have you got fb sorted yet?

trixymalixy · 08/06/2009 11:30

Hi everyone,

Don't have time for a proper update, but just wanted to say to kitkat that I used a homeopathic labour kit from Helios and thought it was pretty good. I used it in conjunction with a book my SIL bought me which I can't remember the name of at the moment.

The arnica is much stronger than the stuff you can buy in Boots etc.

I didn't buy it though, my SIL lent it to me and I just refilled some of them, and I have borrowed it again for this labour.

I found it more useful after labour though as I got quite anxious in the first few weeks and it definitely helped with that.

HellHathNoFury · 08/06/2009 12:00

I hate being pregnant

trying to work through bumps' hiccups and limp around the office with SPD is no fun

HeinzSight · 08/06/2009 12:18

Oh dear HellHath, you don't sound happy today! I also have those I hate being pregnant moments. How many weeks left at work have you got?

Hawkmoth · 08/06/2009 13:07

HellHathNoFury - have you thought about going on the sick? Today my SPD has kicked in with a vengeance - it's the worst it's been all pregnancy. I'm ok sat on my wonderful chair playing with my moveable foot pedal thing under the desk, but I'm at the 4-inch-step-shuffle-wince-turn-puff-grimace stage!

I know that for the next three months I will not be putting DD in her car seat. The thought of driving home today leaves me cold.

I need to work for at least three more weeks. I need to work for at least three more weeks. (keep repeating this Hawkmoth)

I wouldn't mind if I'd brought this on by having wild sex over the weekend... but no. The wildest thing I did was make some buns.

kitkatqueen · 08/06/2009 14:34

Hiya, No I will try to get the facebook bit sorted tonite, I won't have to share the laptop.

dp is not coming home tonite as he says he needs more sleep than is currently availiable in our house and so he is staying at his boss's house! I'm sorry??? You got woken up 2 nights in a row because dd2 had 2 nightmares?? You poor dear!! Let me just gaffer tape this bowling ball to you abdomen and see if that makes it any easier

MEN!!!!

Sorry feel better now

OP posts:
kitkatqueen · 08/06/2009 14:37

BTW Heinz, My memory is attrocious atm and I did a kind of FB? FB? WTF? But fb stands for front bottom??? OOOHHH Face Book!!!

Just shoot me - Please!!

I guess i'm not very good with some abbreviations!!

OP posts:
HellHathNoFury · 08/06/2009 15:07

Hawkmoth I am so with you there.

Actually, my work has been really cool and I work from home 3 days a week, more if I need to.
If yours is really bad though you can talk to your GP and get signed off sick?

SPD is evil for sure. Last night I could hear my pelvis clicking. Sexy.

Hawkmoth · 08/06/2009 15:11

I could get signed off, but I don't want to out of loyalty to my friends here.

Oh the clicking! Last weekend I could feel it resonating up my body with every step... but it didn't hurt then!

My mum's just rung me. I mentioned I needed a gym ball and wouldn't be able to get to Argos. She would have got one, but didn't as she thought I would be over the weight limit . This is depressing... I must not cry.
