Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 15:02

I am here, just trying to juggle SPD, 2 year old, Mum going into hospital, sitting in the sun drinking, working, working from home, physio and every single sodding test the hospital can think to throw at me.

Tomorrow I am off for 2 sodding blood tests as I am a fat cow and a walking diabetes risk.

BAHHHHHHHH

HeinzSight · 01/06/2009 15:45

Now there's a blast from the past!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to swim at Gurnell Swimming pool for our Borough Championships!!! So you're not far from the A40 then. Sorry to hear about your SPD, fellow sufferer here!

HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 15:55

Heinzsight you are suffering too? What treatment have you had?

mamamila · 01/06/2009 16:09

Hi y'all,

hellhathnofury- can recommend osteo for spd and apparently acupuncture is very effective. i have an almost 2 dd and the constant bending and picking up is a killer i know. and if you're sitting at comp have you tried a big ball? they're about £5 in argos/ sports shops

uki- hey girl! sorry you've been feeling low. i know it's obvious but are you getting as much sleep as poss? i really struggle somedays when i'm really tired.

i wasn't offered gest diabetes test and forgot to ask about it

does anyone else have melasma/ hyperpigmentation? i went strangely patchy after last trip back to zanzibar and odd patches have stayed, 2 bruise looking patches on temples, so slavvering on the factor 50

HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 16:19

Hi Mamamila
Unfortunately my SPD is pretty bad and I can't open my legs enough to sit on a ball!
I am working from home until my mat leave starts and seeing physio. I have to wear a support tube and do water exercise but beyond that I am not doing much really. Physio is good though.

I have my gestational Diabetes test tomorrow.

I wasn't worried but since reading a bit about it I am worried now. My BMI is 34 (yep, I surely am a big girl) and so that puts me at high risk.

kitkatqueen · 01/06/2009 18:26

oops i should have had my gtt today and forgot, will have to ring mw tommorow and rebook

I'm due my 28 week check up this week and I'll be having an anti-d jab. I had one of those after one of my mc's and it hurt so I'm not looking forward to it, any words of comfort????

HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 19:29

what is it?

VJaybigpants · 01/06/2009 20:37

I'm rhesus negative so need to have anti-d if I have a bleed, after giving birth etc, and now they offer it at 28 weeks pg too.

VJaybigpants · 02/06/2009 09:42

Good morning, I'm so pleased today because it's cloudy and raining outside, I feel so much cooler

BumpVLump · 02/06/2009 11:36

Thoughtforms-
I had the same news last week.
Been testing my blood 4 times a day but you soon get into a pattern quickly and see what gives you high sugar levels.
Are you diet controlled? (I am)
At least you will get looked after more closely- more scans, more attention...try not to think about big babies!
Just hope the diabetes goes when baby comes as I also have a very sweet tooth and am already missing my choccie fix...

Hawkmoth · 02/06/2009 12:00

My BMI is 34 and I'm not high risk for GD! What happened to the 'National' in NHS!

Welcome BTW

VJay... I've had two Anti-D jabs already. The first was AWFUL. It was after a bleed and so by a delivery MW. She seemed to push the needle further in as she was injecting... then my arm and the side of my face went numb for about an hour - she must have hit a nerve.

When I went for my routine Anti-D at the clinic I was uncharacteristically nervous. I was actually shaking, and begged her to do it in my backside rather than my arm. However, probably because she does them all the time, she didn't hurt me AT ALL. I could have cried, or kissed her.

Just a thought... have you managed to find out how effective the injections are? In all the bumf they give you, they say they have reduced HDN, but there isn't actually a percentage on how well it works for any given woman. Not that I would refuse, my best friend would have had a brother but her mum lost him really late to Rhesus disease... hence my extended panicking about my antibodies.

Who else is swelling up? DP doesn't find the activity of leaving fingerprints in my legs as fun as I hoped. I'm putting it down to the weather, but 50:50 on whether or not to beg a MW appointment tomorrow. I'm tingly all the time in my hands and feet, and my toes are not a pleasant sight!

Hawkmoth · 02/06/2009 12:03

BTW, I've been terribly lucky with my SPD this time. I feel almost normal now after religiously doing my exercises, except for a stretchy tailbone, which is less amusing than it sounds (or looks when I sit on a hard chair - OWW!).

nellyup · 02/06/2009 12:19

hawkmoth - yes me too to the swelling, been bad ever since a ferry trip to France over bank holiday weekend. Horrible, isn't it, and new to me despite two previous summer pregnancies.
I did do quick google on pre-eclampsia just to put my mind at rest when it first started and had mw appointment last week where she reassured me it is a pain but normal and most likely down to the heat.

Hawkmoth · 02/06/2009 14:07

Glad to hear it nellyup! I had high blood pressure and the odd trace of protein last time, but no swelling of the extremities until after the birth. August isn't going to be that much hotter than this surely?

HellHathNoFury · 02/06/2009 14:45

Had diabetes tests today. Feel like a hungry pincushion. Will get the news tomorrow.

YanknCock · 02/06/2009 17:43

Yay Fury you're here! and welcome to Forester!

My SPD seems pretty good after only two trips to the osteopath. Am also trying to frequently do the exercise where I kneel on a pillow, flop forwards over my exercise ball and wiggle my bum slowly side to side. DH finds this most amusing.

Have finally had my legs waxed so I can start going to the pool without people wondering if they should run from the gorilla. The girl who did it was so helpful about propping me up with extra cushions so I wasn't flat on my back or stomach.

I've managed to get on to a different NCT class than the one we originally signed up for. It's starting in less than two weeks, so will be done with it and still 2 months to go, but the booking lady said it was ok if I wanted to do it. The other one was set to finish 1.5 months before due date anyway, and these dates work much better with some work stuff DH can't get out of. Also got a 'Natal Hypnotherapy' CD that my friend swore by for her second birth.

quixotic, I cannot believe your MIL still booked to visit that quickly, especially after being told specifically not to! I'd be furious. Huge amount of sympathy here.

mamamila, I've got a little brown patch by my eye, but hardly noticeable. However, I had two days of a pin-prick red rash from throwing up really violently---apparently burst some capillaries in my face. Thankfully it has faded.

HellHathNoFury · 02/06/2009 18:47

Yank you are very brave getting your legs waxed. I have embraced gorilla. DH should just be thankful he is getting another heir to his fortune and kingdom, he can stuff the effort from me now

Besides which, he is a silverback, I am just keeping in family trend.

mamamila · 02/06/2009 19:00

oh gawd, sorry for all the swollen limbs out there! and those injections sound horrible, good luck!

yank - 'glad' i'm not alone with this. seems such an unfair thing bloody brown patches on the face, whatever next. well done getting waxed, i don't know why but i just can't face it.. how are you feeling these days?

not a lot to report here, feeling a bit hard done by with my sore back, thank god dh is back next week. i've survived 8 weeks by myself with dd but enough already!

LittleFairySmile · 02/06/2009 19:43

Hi all, just checking in to say hi and welcome to some. Sorry to hear some of you having such an awful time. Is this a bad time for me to say I am feeling really good? My hair is glossy and thick as opposed to my normal thin and stringy (but as it's so hot at the mo, thinking of having it chopped short for first time in 20 years!) and baby is no longer sitting as to cause me sciatica. Still have back ache tho but leaning over puffe bottom up (which makes DH laugh, so know what you mean YanknCock) and wiggling works! I keep thinking about Nathan and hope he is well. Any news anyone?

Well take care all, I'll return to lurking now!

YanknCock · 02/06/2009 20:52

Fury, the leg waxing is definitely not for DH's benefit, not after he looked at me during dinner tonight and said 'Blimy, you really are getting enormous!' It was good fun watching him try to get his foot out of his mouth, but I know it's just about the fact that the bump has appeared so suddenly in such a short space of time.

The SPD makes it hard to shave because I can't put one leg up, and shaving doesn't last and makes me so prickly/itchy within a day. Going to try swimming or aquanatal in the coming week as I have no excuse now.

mamamila, am feeling ok, thanks for asking. Threw up today just before waxing, but it was due to a strange breakfast and being very startled/angry at an intrusive meter reader (on AIBU if anyone is interested). Overall, the sickness seems to be down to once a week which is manageable.

HellHathNoFury · 02/06/2009 21:08

Yank swimming really helped mine, as long as I didn't do breast stroke.

Actually 3 weeks ago my SPD was SO SO bad I was seeing physio twice a week and wearing support bandages etc - but now I am sooooo much better and feeling almost normal. Here's what I did:

Stopped commuting to work. I now work from home with 1-2 days a week in the office depending on how I feel
Swimming 2-3 times a week
Doing physio exercises
clenching tummy muscles when I have to raise a leg

I was AMAZED, I was a real cynic but I feel so much better!

OonaghBhuna · 02/06/2009 21:58

I havent been able to do any waxing since Dd1 was born 4 years ago.I cant bear the pain anymore........I use hair removal cream its not as good as waxing though.
Im feeling alot better, last week was awful. The children are also a little easier this week too.
Love to all X

duchesse · 02/06/2009 22:13

Hell/Fury- I had my test last Sunday (as in more than a week ago) and have heard nothing yet. Am beginning to wonder if they even processed it. And I'm not bloody doing that again! Three attempts it took her to get her second blood sample. I came back with 7 or 8 punctures. (1 for first sample + week 28 bloods, 3x 2nd sample, 1x 3rd sample, 1 anti-D). Ok that's only 6, but it felt like a lot more.

thoughtforms · 02/06/2009 22:14

BumpVLump - yep, I'm diet controlled, although on my first reading I was at 7.6 (which made them look at me really worried) - though I figured out that was probably due to me going swimming (I didn't go into work before my appointment), then coming home starving, and eating too much... thankfully the two readings I've done since are around the 5.5 mark.

How are you finding it?

We dug out our old GI Diet book, and ohh, there's a recipe for pizza in there, so I will not miss out! Strangely, (but happily), the clinic had a poster on the wall of options for eating out (Chinese, Indian, Pizza, even Fish & Chips!) so you don't feel like you miss out - so it's nice to know if the opportunity arises I wont feel miserable watching everyone else eating what I want to :-)

Spotted my notes (I'll get them next week), which said my GTT reading was 8.5. Crikey, that's a bit of a shocker... but like you say, they're going to keep a much closer eye on me now.

I have sooo much untouched chocolate at home it's unfair! Not that I'd want it, probably, under normal pregnancy circumstances - but now I really can't have it, I want it!! Oh it makes no sense at all.

Thanks for the note - and thanks to everyone else who's made a comment so far too! I just keep thinking, "three months left, that's all..." Papa John's did not help by sending me, personally, a load of offers. The gits.
