Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
readyfornumber2and3 · 28/05/2009 12:44

Valz I had a scan today too and am 27 weeks today. Babies are 2lb 7oz and 2lb 4oz (nearly double what they were 3 weeks ago!!)
She said if I go to term she would expect them to be at least 7lb each, so looks like im gonna be the size of a house lol
Twin 1 has gone breech but she said thats pretty normal at this stage and not to worry.

Cant believe how much the care seems to vary for us all.

Quixotic You should definately be seeing someone sooner, for a start you should be having routine bloods done at 28 weeks, not to mention checking bp and urine for any early signs of problems! Ring your community mw and kick up a big fuss
Also cant believe how inconsiderate your MIL is (angry).
My MIL is coming to visit next weekend and although she knows DP works monday to friday she has booked sunday and monday night into a hotel and will go home tuesday! Have told DP I will not be entertaining her on the monday (especially as DS is in playgroup 9am-12pm)

Hi to everyone else and hope all these breech babies turn x

readyfornumber2and3 · 28/05/2009 12:47

Craftyandclothy at your MIL too! Cant believe she actually expects you to travel that far when heavily pregnant!
FIL is 60 at the start of september and DP is already nagging about going to see him (also a 5 hour car journey) and I have told him we will have to wait and see when the twins arrive and how I feel and that im not commiting to anything that close to due date!!

cairns · 28/05/2009 13:30

Craftyandclothy, Quixotic - at your MIL's, they should know better. If we are on the MIL rant path, I do need to let off some steam too. I have MIL and Gran in Law (90!) coming to stay Sunday thru Thurs next week despite DH also working Mon-Fri so will have to entertain them too, as well as look after a toddler all day, I am dreading it , more so as I know I will not get any 'rest' time where I can just veg on the sofa in the evening... both of them are both 'Hyancith types'. I know I agreed it would be OK for them to stay... but 4 nights is a tad much!!! I did manage to force convince them though to change their dates from July!... oh fun week for me next week

SIL has also booked a visit in next month, which again I think is a tad late to stay for 2 nights with husband and 2 children in tow (who do destroy the house without tidying up after themselves).. we haven;t seen them for ages mind so it is important that we see them.. it just annoys me that some women who also have children can be so thoughtless some time about when they decide is a good time to turn up.

OK my rant over too. I just can;t believe women who havbe had babies can be so utterly thoughtless sometimes

Quixotic - i had the same issue with being unable to see my midwife last pregnancy, she was fully booked, on holiday or on a course from 20 wks until 36 wks. I have some shared care with my GP who was happy to take over the antenatal appts that my midwife was supposed to do, which I was very happy with . Here we have bloods retaken at 28wks, so I do think it is important that you get that done too, to at least monitor iron levels etc. My stnadard appts (from 20 wks are) 20 wks scan , 24 wk (GP), 28 wk (midwife and bloods), 32 wks (GP), 34wks (MW), 36wks (GP), 38wks (MW), 40wks (MW/Hospital)

BumpVLump · 28/05/2009 14:02

Boo to all these MIL's and people who generally don't understand...
We need space, we need time alone and we need people respecting this.
I am also joining the breech club...
Bloody uncomfy under the ribs and head sometimes feels like it is going to pop through the skin! Lovely.

duchesse · 28/05/2009 14:18

Hooray! Have been paid my HiP grant, having sent the form off on May 5th.

quixotic · 28/05/2009 16:23

Thanks for all your input re the midwife - I called up, got tough and funny enough they can fit me in on Monday! Also feel better that it is not just me with annoying and inconsiderate ILs. Good luck turning those babies!

OonaghBhuna · 28/05/2009 17:32

Have been lurking, I have had a bad week, I am really struggling. I had a migraine for 2 days and the children have been horrendous. I have no energy, Im sweating and I am gulping back water and any juice I can get my hands on. MW said my urine bloods are fine so nothing to worry about. I just feel so ill and I have ages to go

Dont worry about breech babies, they can turn even up the the remaining couple of weeks.Although my DD2, the monkey, had her head engaged for weeks and I was delighted because I wanted a vbac, she turned into the breech postion in the 13th hour (last scan) and I ended up with another section!!! Well at least it was a planned one and not an emergency like DD1.

OonaghBhuna · 28/05/2009 17:34

I knew she had turned because I could feel her feet really low down, in fact very low down and my heart sank.Ohh I feel all nostalgic now thinking about the little pet despite her tantrums this week.

Hawkmoth · 29/05/2009 09:14

OoonaghBhuna I've been luck with my migraines this pregnancy - I don't envy you at all. Hope you are feeling better today.

Bloody sunshine when I have to work. Theoretically, I only have five hours left to do today, but it never seems to work out like that does it? Could have cried this morning - I went out early and DD was waving sadly from her bedroom window. Also think DP is sulking at me cos I left him asleep in bed. Although, I did take a photo of him with his mouth open and set it as wallpaper on his phone, so that could have ticked him off slightly as well!

Anyway, I know I'm getting bigger - the bump keeps touching the bathroom tiles when I'm in the shower! Cold!

Queenoftheharpies · 29/05/2009 09:21

Has anyone else suddenly got huge? I had quite an elegant bump until a couple of days ago - feels like it's doubled in size overnight.

OonaghBhuna · 29/05/2009 09:29

Im huge people keep asing me how long do I have left. They look at me in shock when I tell them that its not due until August! I was huge with the others aswell!

duchesse · 29/05/2009 13:13

Is it standard practise now to measure fundal height? Does everybody else have this done at every appointment? The midwives I see all seem to do it. Mine seems to jump around a fair bit, depending I think on how the baby is lying. At week 25 I was 32cm (!), at week 26, 24cm (!!), and today at week 28+5 I was 30cm. Frankly I can't see why they bother...

mamamila · 29/05/2009 20:33

hi all,

saw the mw today, first time since 16 wks, now 28 wks. i'm also huge and people have been giving me the 'not long now' for weeks.

mw reckoned baby was head down but had a prod around, marvelled at my hugely seperated stomach muscles, and declared cheerfully she had no idea what she was feeling

did say that maybe bit of anaemia causing tiredness/ breathlessness. then gave me back my wee and i've had to carry it around all day! it's fine recycling the pot but i wish she could at least empty it and maybe give a rinse first.

after had a pedicure, orange toes for the sunshine and came away with a load of aveda hair stuff. £19 for a 1 litre bottle of shampoo that smells like marzipan mmm! it seemed like a bargain..

then home via the park and deep into a contraception chat with ds who's staying over at gf's tonight. ha ha you have all this to come ladies! i swear it really doesn't seem more than a few years since he was just a wee bairn too

what do you all have planned for the weekend and what are you wearing in this heat?

kitkatqueen · 29/05/2009 22:46

ahhh yes, annoying MIL's, I have a lovely MIL an completly fruit cake mother with the tact and thoughtfulness of a mudhopper. ( My rant over )

Quixotic, The problem is this, even if your MIL arrives and stays in a hotel and doesn't see you, you are going to be stressed just knowing that she is there - its the "obligation" thing.

I really don't know what to suggest other than writing her a letter to explain that you really need space, mentally as well as phisically and as a parent herself you thought she would understand - either that or shop her in as a terrorist the day before she's due to fly .

Crafty, you are absolutly right to be with your MIL to expect you to do a five hour journey at that gestation - I wouldn't do it!

As far as I know I don't have spd ( my pelvis doesn't grind at the front (yet! did last time eventually) but when I have to move from laying or standing it feels like all the bones in my lower back are pulling too far apart. Will need to go see osteopath again soon I think.

Am a bit worried tho that in 20 yrs time my DIL will be on here swearing about me...

OP posts:
thoughtforms · 30/05/2009 09:01

Has anyone else been told they've gestational diabetes? I found out I do, after my GTT on Wednesday.

Needless to say, all manner of food cravings have kicked in, pizza, chocolate, sugary drinks and so on, and I had a good bawl last night because I felt sorry for myself. Then I scared myself a bit more by reading that a lot of ladies end up having the baby early, if the blood sugars aren't managed properly, so now I'm convinced I'll survive on a diet of veg, fruit, rice, quinoa, and all bran, with lots of goodness thrown in.

Bah, though.

Baby comes first though, I'll just have 24 hours feeling sorry for myself, then I'll pull my socks up.

VJaybigpants · 30/05/2009 10:02

hello ladies, I have been lurking but not posting as often as I should sorry. Loving the MIL talk, I thought it was just me being a hormonal witch, but I've realised I'm not. We live 8 hours dirve away from family and friends and am dreading someone saying they're coming up for a visit. I'm fine in the morning but come the afternoons all I want to do is srread out on the sofa, and you can't do that with visitors can you! Thankfully no one has suggested a visit yet!
As for the size of me, I keep getting the 'oooh not long to go now' and 'is there just 1 in there?', cheeky beggers, they all have a shock when I say I've got 3 months to go
crafty I wouldn't travel at that gestation eother, we have a family christening around the same time, and we're not going, even if we split up the 8 hour journey with stopovers it would cost us a small fortune. Stick to your guns
thoughtforms sorry about the diabetes, I had the test done with ds, yukky drinking all that lucozade, but was ok.
Well it's lovely and hot up here, so will be finding lots of shady places and taking ds swimming later.
PS forgot to add, we found out it's a boy

Uki · 31/05/2009 12:49

HI ALL

Thoughforms- sorry to hear of diabetes, i think the cravings are part of it though, my dad never used to eat chocolate, but wanted it all the time when he was diagnosed, hope you manage OK?

duchese- my fundal height measuremments are always spot on for my weeks, but i don't think they can be that accurate or they wouldn't send me for growth scans.

mamamilla - you'll have to post a pic i remember your aug 07 bump, it was pretty impressive, can't believe you've only had your second appointment, i've had about 10 and 4 scans now, my dh is a bit over it all, thinks it's overdone care

I certainly feel huge too, and old, and decreped (sp) don't think i can hang in there feeling like this i was crying the other morning as i felt so tired and sick. wasn't sure if i was comming down with something or if my blood pressure had got too high. went to hospital to have a check up, and it wasn't too high, 128/78 not great though, anyway feel much better today, thank goodness.

think we'll all have to moan our way through the next 8-12 weeks

ScummyMummy · 31/05/2009 16:28

My two fundal measurements so far, done by 2 different people have been totally different- the first was 30 (at 24 weeks) and the 2nd 26 (at 28 weeks) ! No one seemed too worried.

Sorry to hear of diabetes, thoughtforms.

I've been quite enjoying the nice weather, which is a surprise as I thought I'd get v hot and bothered.

Forester · 31/05/2009 19:12

Hi

I've been lurking a while and thought that it was about time that I introduced myself.

My first baby is due 2 August - a girl. Very excited and also looking forward to taking a break from work! Though realise that I won't be getting a break....

Pregnancy has gone pretty smoothly so far - though as of last few days getting quite uncomfortable in bed so waking up all the time. Touch wood all will be ok with the pregnancy for the remainder of the time. No idea about baby's position - getting kicks all round.

I think I'm also on the large size - getting the must be soon comments. I've actually been quite surprised by how random people comment on the size.

Hello Ladies!

I popped by once (ages ago) but after having a little chat with YankNCock on another thread I thought I'd say hello!

I am due 21st Aug, with a boy. Will be DS2. I am already the exhausted proud parent of a 2 year old little gobshite darling.

Been suffering from SPD in a seriously bad way and am now working from home til mat leave.

I am in Ealing and would LOVE to meet up with any of you ladies near here, as long as you don't mind walking real slow as I am a cripple

I've just been reading up in my elderly copy of Miriam Stoppard's "Pregnancy and Birth Book", first published 1985, republished 1992.

It states for week 28: "If your baby was born now, it could survive given special care". (my italics)

For week 32, it gives a survival rate of "50% for babies born at that stage".

Current stats for survival at 28 weeks are 88%, and above 94% at 32 weeks, with the 50% survival rate falling between 24 and 25 weeks at present.

I can't help but feel so thankful for the improvements in special baby care over the last 20 odd years, and so glad for little Nathan's continuing progress.

HeinzSight · 01/06/2009 12:30

Hi all,

welcome on board HellHath. Whereabout in Ealing are you? I used to live in Acton but moved yrs ago!!

HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 13:24

I'm in West Ealing, not far from the Gurnell Leisure Centre.

I read about Nathan, I have everything crossed for him, poor little mite.
