Hiya everybody.

Have overdone it a bit i think and have a very tight tummy. Does anyone else get this ? its like a tight band has been put round my tummy about 3 inches wide right across my belly button, and it aches like a contraction type pain, my tummy is really hard. I'm 27+4 today and its felt like this for the last hour and a half, without any change at all.

Any ideas???

Haven't got fb page up and running, think i will have to do it over, i think they wouldn't accept kit katqueen as a name LOL

Is it coming and going kitkat? Might be an idea to give NHS direct a ring, but they'll prob get you to pop down to the hospital to be looked at! Hope you're OK xx

ScummyMummy · 23/05/2009 14:53

Hope you are ok, kitkat. Did you eat a big meal last night, by any chance? I'm finding it mighty uncomfortable if I eat my normal (greedy person!) sized portions these days. Bump goes rock hard and too tight feeling, a bit like your description. I'm making a conscious effort to eat smaller portions and after I gorged in an extremely delicious Indian restaurant a couple of weeks back and almost had to be carried home by my sons and partner!

thoughtforms · 23/05/2009 16:08

Just popping in for another offer I spotted - Bank Holiday only, but Mamas and Papas are doing 30% off all maternity jeans - and there's some baby clothes discounts on other lines - the jeans deal looks like a good one, though.

kitkatqueen · 23/05/2009 23:11

Hiya, im fine I think I have just managed to get online, we are on holiday in the caravan at the seaside. ( five of us in a 4 berth caravan lol I bought it when I was convinced two was all I would be having, erm oops!) I probably should have rung somebody, but bubs is wigglekicking all over the place and other than going really tight every thing seems fine. I hadn't had a big meal, the only thing i can think is that I had been doing too much. My tummy was continuously tight for about 4 hrs.

Seems ok now anyway, but I know what you mean scummy about big meals, if I eat too much I start to feel like an overstressed balloon .

Hope everyone has a good bh weekend!

Hawkmoth, I also love my jalepenos, but get told off by DH if I try to eat them now. Never used to be a problem, but have had 'ring of fire' issues afterward since being pregnant!

kitkatqueen, glad you're feeling a bit better.

I completely screwed up yesterday and spent about 2-3 hours sitting on my office chair sorting through paperwork. Could barely move afterward. Ended up on my knees, flopped over the exercise ball, with DH putting alternating hot and cold stuff on my lower back (as recommended by osteopath). It helped somewhat, but was seizing up again right away after sitting back on the sofa.

Has anyone experienced really sharp ligament pain? My friend described what happened to me perfectly before I'd told her all the details--I really thought I had an ovarian cyst or something! Basically, I woke up in the middle of the night, baby moving like crazy, with a really sharp shooting pain on my lower left abdomen (where I used to get ovulation pain). Felt like I couldn't breathe, hurt worse when I moved. DH sleeping in other room or I would have woke him up. Was seriously thinking I needed to get help, but I must have passed out or just fallen asleep while trying hard not to move. Completely fine in the morning. Weird eh? It happened last night on the opposite side, but wasn't quite as bad.

HeinzSight · 24/05/2009 13:25

kitkat, SO glad you're OK! Was worried about you. Hope you're having a fabby time on your hol!

Dear oh dear Yank, you really are going through the wars aren't you TBH all my ligament pain from the earlier days is always long gone by this stage, but that's me. Look up 'round ligament pain' on google, it might be that which you're experiencing.

I'm trying to take it easy, DH being brilliant and reminding me not to overdo things. He knows only too well that it doesn't take much to knacker my hip for the day. We've got some friends coming tomorrow so DS1 and I are going to go to the shops later to buy some bits to make some nice salads. Not sure whether we're going to be able to get a new gas cylinder for the BBQ as I can't lift it and it's difficult for DH with only one arm. WIll see how strong DS1 is feeling!!

Hope everyone's enjoying this gorgeous weather. We've got the paddling pool with a tiny bit of water in for DD, but she's not so sure at the moment!!

MichaelaS please come and post when you get a chance

YanknCock · 24/05/2009 13:34

Yep, I did a bit of googling, and given that it didn't last and I didn't have a fever, I've decided to assume it is round ligament pain. Have eliminated appendicitis, constipation, ovarian cyst torsion/bursting, so I think ligament pain is the best explanation. My friend said she was sure something was really wrong and ended up in A&E with it.

I guess it makes sense as I've only just got a bump and belly seems to be growing fast all of a sudden.

HeinzSight · 24/05/2009 13:36

there's def a growth spurt at around 28 weeks!!!!

MichaelaS · 24/05/2009 22:13

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in so long, it has been sort of busy, and sort of not, but I couldn't really face reading all the posts and the longer it went on the less I felt like it. A take-out pizza got me in the mood though!

Everything is OK with Nathan, or as OK as it can be anyway. He's still very tiny, but is fighting. He is having my milk now, through a nasal tube at a rate of 1.5ml per hour, and he is tolerating it well and putitng on weight - this morning he weighted a "whopping" 790g which is a great improvement on his birth weight of 620g (they are about 1lb 11 and 1lb 5 in old money I think).

He's had some trouble with his breathing, including a horrible incident yesterday when his saturation went really far down and the nurse didn't notice as she was looking after the other baby, but he's still going. We won't know what damage if any has been done to his brain until much later on - not just on this incident but after being born blue with the cord around his neck, and then after the low oxygen times whilst they were initially ventilating him. But the good news is that they have finally got him to tolerate a change in ventilatino - from the oscillation pattern to the breath pattern. This is great as he'll need this to be transferred.

He has a very wide open PDA (heart duct) which will need to be closed surgically, this is typical for premmie babies, and we're on the waiting list for great ormond street and/or st thomas's in london. We might be able to take him back to a closer london hospital after that too, which would mean we could go home. 4 weeks of living in a hospital is driving me a bit mad.

Anyway, the main thing is that Nathan is still with us, he is opening his eyes, looking around and wiggling his arms and legs too. He has recently discovered that he can put his fingers in his mouth, even if it's a bit difficult to get past the breathing tube and to angle his hand so his canula doesn't knock him in the face. He is VERY cute too, and we love him soooo much.

Was amused by your lists of things to buy for your babies, will have to get shopping myself in the next few months. We have nothing at all, except some muslin squares and a stuffed elephant. Lucky the NHS is lending him about £100,000 of equipment to lie in then!

Hope everyone else is OK and that SPD subsides, muscle tears heal up or at least cause no more pain, and depressions lift. Enjoy the sunshine ladies and hopefully speak soon to you all again

Love Michaela

ScummyMummy · 24/05/2009 22:20

Thanks SO much for posting, Michaela. Great news that Nathan is fighting on day by day. It's wonderful that he's graduated to breast milk and the new ventilation pattern. I bet living at the hospital is very difficult- hope you will be able to be transferred soon.

Haribosmummy · 24/05/2009 22:28

michaela,

thankyou for posting. it's wonderful to hear nathan is progressing well.

i hope you are able to transfer as soon as nathan is able to do so.

thinking of you.

hm

mamamila · 24/05/2009 22:47

hi michaela, thanks for the update, i often wonder how nathan's doing.
he sounds such a little fighter and you sound as though you're coping well too. i'm really in awe.
it's hard ro imagine how tiny he must be, it's excellent news he's taking milk and gaining weight. good luck to you all x

thoughtforms · 25/05/2009 09:38

Aw, thanks for the update Michaela!

I've got a quick post to do, as I'm back up north visiting family, and have had a couple of people tell me this story - which I thought you all might like to know about, forewarned, etc etc..

This happened to my sister, one of my friends and one of her friends - so it's not a one-off (but may well just be related to this hospital, which I wont name), but not long after birth, someone from Bounty comes into the hospital, and asks to take a photo of your baby. However, the people here seem to have a little more underhand method - saying that the photo has to be taken "for security reasons in the hospital" - and they don't mention anything to do with Bounty.

As it is, my sister and my friend declined the offer, but her friend didn't, and has since been signed up for a baby photo, courtesy of Bounty, which you then have to pay lots of money for to get (and it seems quite difficult to get rid of!)

So just pre-warning anyone, if you get the person saying they need to take a photo, but not actually saying they're from Bounty, this is the link which it relates to - www.bountyweb.co.uk/photographic/orders/faq.php

It seems harmless enough, and hopefully most of the photographers will say where they're from.. but just thought I'd mention it. Badly, and clumsily, of course, but hey...

HeinzSight · 25/05/2009 12:34

Michaela, thank you so much for coming on and updating us on Nathan's progress. I've been thinking about you loads. Sorry about that scare yesterday . Do they have alarms etc when O2 sats go down? Keeping everything crossed that he continues to gain weight and gets bigger and stronger. Like you say, I do hope he can be transferred to a closer hospital sooner rather than later, I can't begin to imagine how frustrating it must be living in the hospital. xxx

thoughtforms, thanks for that warning!!!!

BumpVLump · 25/05/2009 14:28

Hi all,
Such good news Nathan is doing ok. Can't even think how awful it must be living in the hospital and being so full of worry. Lets hope the rest of ours stay in till 'cooked'.
I havent been on for a while.
Been so tired and run down and finding work a struggle. Its a fight between not wanting to wear myself out, but getting enough maternity leave with bubba when it comes...ready to give up work now though, at 30 weeks!
I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Don't know much about it all to be honest and don't have my big appointment till tomorrow where I get my blood testing kit etc. Not overweight and no history in my family so it was a bit of shock actually. I think this is perhaps why I have NO energy. Also may help explain why I have to pee about 6 times a night...saying that being tired and always needing the loo- isn't that just plain pregnancy?!
Well hope you all ok and enjoying the holiday weekend.

OonaghBhuna · 25/05/2009 17:17

Michaelas - Thank you for your post. I am sure it has been so stressful being in hospital for this length of time. I am glad nathan is improving apart from the scare yesterday and can have some of your milk.Have been thinking of you.

BVL- Sorry to hear about your GD,it will be important to get as much info as you can.Although I dont have this conditon, I am so tired and have zero energy.I could sleep all day if I didnt have a 4 yr old and a 2yr old!

LittleFairySmile · 25/05/2009 21:19

Michaela, so pleased to hear from you, Nathan is in my prayers as are you and your family. I don't know what else to say, just that you must be a very kind person to read through all our posts and make comment on them when there is so much going on with you.

Hi everyone else.

quixotic · 26/05/2009 09:29

Thanks for posting Michaela and good to hear Nathan is fighting and gaining weight.

readyfornumber2and3 · 26/05/2009 09:33

MICHAELAS so glad to hear that little Nathan is getting stronger, he is a real little fighter by the sounds of it. Hope you are all taking care of yourselves x

All is well here, seeing the consultant on thursday for a scan to see how they are doing and will be interesting to see how much they have grown

Hope everyone is doing well and that the SPD is under control for those suffering x

valz · 26/05/2009 11:18

Hi Ready

Snap ive a scan Thursday as well, lookin forward to see how the babies are doing. how are you feeling at the mo? at my last scan the midwife said they were both head down which is good although that may change. i have a feeling the left one is facing outwards cuz i can feel plenty of kicking on that side, on the right side i feel a tightening then that side of my tummy will mould out and go really hard for a few minutes then soften again, its the strangest thing so i think its back is facing outwards and the hardness is its wee bottom when its curling up or something. any ideas? have you had this?

readyfornumber2and3 · 26/05/2009 12:31

Hi Valz

Im starting to find things like the stairs harder and have to take it slow but generally feeling well, how about you?
At my last scan the bottom one was head down and the top one was transverse but obviously plenty of time to change yet lol.

I get a lot of odd movements and to be honest I cant really tell which is which lol
The hardness could definately be a bottom

Hope all goes well on thursday x

Hawkmoth · 26/05/2009 15:11

Hello all. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Great to hear the update on Nathan.

Hoped to be able to be positive - my SPD is okay at the moment, apart from having a really sore tailbone, which I guess must be stretching as well... but I've tested positive for anti-D and anti-M antibodies.

The anti-D could be because I had an injection already, will know in two weeks. The anti-M is a new one on me. Been googling, and can't find anything that's not very reassuring. It must be quite rare and not too serious as it's not mentioned by NICE, NHS or RCOG. However, I've been told it's the end of my homebirth plans, and that they might want to induce me at term. Fine... if it's serious, if I have high levels, if they find something wrong with baby (have scan in 2/3 weeks)... but if it's just them being over cautious I am really not sure I would be ok with it. It's scary because it's totally unexpected and I can't find anything out about it of any use.

kitkatqueen · 26/05/2009 15:19

Hi Michaelas, Thankyou so much for posting I can imagine it would be difficult reading our posts when your beautiful boy has already arrived and is fighting! But he really does sound like a fighter, well done for successfully expressing, you are helping him so much by doing that. Well done and send him all our love!

Thanks thoughtforms, will pass it on!

Hiya heinz, holiday is lovely even if the awning got flooded out last night and my nice new green carpet is now tied to a hedge with crochet wool to dry LOL!

Just hoping the weather man is
wrong and we don't get more rain tonight and that if we do the new groundsheet will keep us dry The children were paddling at breakfast this morning!!

Hope everyone had a lovelly weekend.

OP posts:
readyfornumber2and3 · 26/05/2009 15:24

Hawkmoth Cant say Ive heard of it but would advise you to definately ask plenty of questions to mw/gp/consultant.
I kind of understand what you mean about losing out on your homebirth for no real reason, in that my consultant is talking about GTT and epidurals and monitoring etc without there actually being anything to warrant it. I have told DP that I am not having any medical intervention unless it is best for the babies.
I think the medics can be a bit quick in doing unneeded procedures "just incase"

I agree that if it will be in the babies best interest then I will have whatever needs doing though.

Hope you get some straight answers and that its nothing too worry about
