Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hawkmoth · 20/05/2009 15:30

Had my MW appointment today and got my HiP form, it's ready to go with all the work post. I'm sat here quietly trying not to cry as had a row with DP and all hormonal. I made some remark about a HUGE supper of reheated baked beans and four slices of buttered bread that he had last night (after going out for lunch and a big tea of sausages and mash) so he ignored me at bedtime and I woke in a foul mood. He's so lovely, and I KNOW I'm just projecting my own fears about getting hugely fat again. I need to get a grip.

Anyway, all was well with MW, bump measuring spot on 28 weeks (which on my growth chart equates to huge as DD was small!), BP nice and steady, baby head down and wriggly. DD was explaining to DP about hearing the baby's heart, which was lovely. She was in a state going there because she had her MMR booster yesterday which involved ten minutes of serious screaming... from the second she saw the doctor!

I see her point, tomorrow is my routine Anti-D injection. They put it in your arm. It's going to hurt a lot

SPD very up and down this week. Pelvis was massively out on Monday when she realigned it, horrendously sore yesterday but pretty good today. Long may it continue... Sarah you are brave doing hoovering and shopping centres!

By the way... I read twice now that we are all 'nearly there' or that it's 'not long now'. That sort of alarmist talk doesn't help anybody! Good lord... I'm not ready for another person to live in my house

quixotic · 20/05/2009 16:13

Arghhhhhh - just got a mail from mother-in-law saying she plans to come and stay for two weeks from 24th August (4 days after my due date). DH already told her she can't come til September at least. She is coming from Canada so looking at flights, they are bloody retired so I do not see what the problem with September is...... I am riled to the max right now...

Hawkmoth · 20/05/2009 16:20

Oh dear God! Hope you've replied sharpish! Health and Safety issues... overdue women can inflict serious insult/injury!

YanknCock · 20/05/2009 16:56

'Sarah you are brave doing hoovering and shopping centres!'

'Brave' is not the word....unrealistic and a teensy bit stupid more like! I'm sure you specifically said 'no hoovering' with SPD a long time ago, I really should have listened!

quixotic, my mom is coming from the U.S., it's her first grandchild, and she is waiting till October! Your MIL needs to back off!

MW appointment fine, didn't see the irritating one. This is the first MW appt I went to where I didn't end up in tears, so think the ADs are definitely working. She is going to post the HiP form to me as they didn't have them in the clinic. They STILL don't have any MAT B1 forms, even though I asked about it 4 weeks ago! Thankfully nice MW called another place and is getting another clinic to do one for me.

Got a card saying they tried to deliver two registered letters for me while I was out. Reckon it is more bad news from work, but don't think I'll go hysterical and throw up this time. Just have to wait till tomorrow to get them from the depot.

BabyBump2B · 20/05/2009 17:01

Quixotic - We finally got DH's parents to come in September but they told him the day before they were coming for 2 weeks only to email me the next day that MIL booked for a month and FIL for 3 weeks!

Mumof3tobe - whereabouts in Canada are you? I'm just outside of Vancouver!

So I saw the Dr yesterday and he confirmed that I have indeed torn my actual abdominal muscle. Usually the abs separate which isn't painful but I haven't separated and the muscle has ripped instead. There is nothing they can do about it and it won't heal until after the baby's born (in 12 weeks). I can take Tylenol which I'll try to ration but the pain had me in tears twice already so not sure how helpful it will be. Dr likened it to having to walk on a sprained ankle!

So am now thinking about when to go off on mat leave - what are you ladies thinking?

HeinzSight · 20/05/2009 17:14

babyBump, ouch ouch. I think I've done a similar thing. I've never had this before and this is my fourth pregnancy, but it's like you describe. Sometimes when I try and roll in bed I get an excrutiating stabbing pain about 5 inches to the right of my belly button. It's always the same place and it feels external IYSWIM. I'd never heard of this before.

What can I say except PILs AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

HeinzSight · 20/05/2009 17:14

PS out of interest, how did they diagnose it?

cairns · 20/05/2009 17:39

babybump2b that is awful - hoping the pain starts to ease a bit at least soon

*quixotic" we have similar MIL issues here, MIL stayed with us 2 days after giving birth to DS1 because she wanted to "bond" with the baby it was her 3rd grandchild too, this was frustrating as my parents had respected my wishes and left me alone for a little bit until at least 2 weeks after birth (I have divorced parents and divorced IL's who all live at least 4 hrs drive away.. so they always stay). This time I am handling it by giving MIL the name of some local B&Bs, saying we can't handle overnight visitors until 'x' date - amazing what the thought of needing to spend extra money on accomodation and food does to the timing and duration of their planned stays

IBlameThePenguins · 20/05/2009 20:53

Hi All,

It's AmeNbump...Have namechanged. It's been AGES since I posted on this thread, theres been so much happenning. Have been lurking though. Hope you & bumps are all OK.

I have had my scan, and we decided not not to find out the sex n the end, although DP is "certain" he could see "girl bits" .

I haven't been sick for 3 whole weeks now, so generally feel much better, although, i had a huge nesting urge on sunday, climbed on the loo seat to shake the mat out of the window, and promptly fell back off it again...bashing my head on the bath & jarring my back quite badly...NO MORE CLEANING...lesson learnt!!

Aaanyways, just thought i'd check back in with all you lovely ladies!!

mumof3tobe · 21/05/2009 14:55

babybump2b - I'm in eastern ontario. Is your weather still up and down? I had very bad SPD in the last pregnancy and was working part-time so I took the mat leave as soon as I could as sitting all morning made it worse.
This time i'm now a SAHM so don't get a chance to rest much with two young ones running about.

My parents are coming over from UK a few day's before birth and staying for 2 weeks, but i'm glad of the break as they are taking DS & DD away twice each for a few day's.

PIL are coming in a couple of weeks for 2 weeks so i'll get some rest and then they will see baby at xmas when we go home for a 2 to 3 weeks.

YanknCock · 21/05/2009 15:38

Yay! I'm going to the osteopath tonight! One who specialises in pregnant ladies! Oh I hope hope hope this will help somewhat. I only just phoned, and they had no appts for tomorrow, but they still had one in the early evening. Hooray!

The weirdest thing happened yesterday. All of a sudden, I look pregnant (and not just fat). Maybe baby has flipped around? Until yesterday, all the movement was very low down (normally hitting my bladder). Then overnight I got this hard roundness under my boobs, and got a jolting kick(?) just below the ribs. DH quickly put his hand there and got a second incredibly hard kicking! We must have looked so odd, just sitting on the sofa with our jaws hanging open in disbelief.

Bought the car seat and isofix base online last night (saved around £40!). I think that means all major purchases are now accounted for.

HeinzSight · 21/05/2009 16:16

Good luck YanknCock with your Osteopath appointment. I swear by them now!!!! Please come back and post describing what is done to you!! We can compare notes

BabyBump2B · 21/05/2009 17:59

Heinzsight - They diagnosed me by feeling around really. Its painful to the touch (even to the point of sliding a t-shirt over it at night makes me wince). It is crazy pain isn't it. I have decided to embrace the pain and take it as training for labour. Not sure if that will work but hey ho!

HeinzSight · 21/05/2009 20:19

sounds like a good idea BabyBump, you're looking at it in a positive way!!!!

YanknCock · 21/05/2009 22:00

BabyBump, sounds awful! Have they said whether it will affect you during labour?

Heinzsight (and other SPD sufferers thinking of osteopathy):

Osteopath took a history, detailed description of the problem, asked about previous injuries and such, and what I was currently doing for the pain (and was it helping). Then I had to strip to bra and pants (really wish I'd shaved) for exam and treatment.

First I was standing, and she felt up and down my back, tilted my pelvis back a bit (felt like I might fall over backward). Had to put each foot forward one at a time, and she said my right side was worse than the left. Apparently my pelvis is tipping forward a lot which is making things worse in my back.

Then I laid on each side on the table while she sort of massaged my lower back, and leaned over me using her body weight to stretch the muscles in my back. Then I had to lay on my back while she crossed both my arms over my chest, and somehow she made my back crackle and pop a lot! She also did a bit of massage on the front of my right leg.

She showed DH a few things he could do to help me as well. If I sit on a chair backward and lean forward, he can do massage going up the sides of my spine. Also he can put his hands under my bump (from behind) and gently rock back, which lifts the bump and gives my back some relief.

She said to use heat and ice on my lower back (2x each, ending on the ice), and to make sure I had a hot bath tonight (have just gotten out). I'm sort of achy (which she said to expect), but it's a new kind of achy and I do feel hopeful that something is happening! Am going back next week. Overall quite happy with the experience. It was £48 for the 1st hour appt, and will be £33 for 1/2 hour appts afterward. Going to eat up the HiP grant, but it's worth it I think.

kitkatqueen · 22/05/2009 01:12

Baby bump that sounds really nasty!! You have my every sympathy!!

To anyone else contemplating osteopath, I can only say do it and do it now!!! I am still almost completely pain free in my back/ hips and I haven't been for ages. Also I have less pain it my accident damaged arm that I have had since I injured it in 1994 and more movement so I'm guessing it is properly in joint now for the 1st time in 15 years .

You can't put a price on being pain free, you really can't. Being in pain affects every single part of your life and is depressing too. Good use for the hip grant yank - v good idea!

Have either of you ( heinz / yank or anyone else seeing an osteopath) asked them about celery seed extract? I am sure its what mine reccomened to tighten up the ligaments in the back and pelvis to reduce the problems of spd and other "loose ligaments" in pregnancy. I think in your situations I would ring and ask...

Heinz - yes I'm back on the omega 3 unfortunatly im skint and keep running out It definatly makes a huge difference to me, I'm back on the iron again as I'm craving ice/headaches/dizzy apparantly craving ice is a fairly sure fire sign of low iron although they can't work out why

Am still trying to find a way to post the sling pattern don't worry I haven't forgotten!

Hawkmoth · 22/05/2009 11:19

Well I'm feeling much better today. Went for routine Anti-D and blood tests yesterday. The MW who did them was an angel! I was actually shaking, which is completely unlike me, because the one I had after my bleed was so incredibly painful. But I hardly felt her, even though the stuff is like treacle.

Got a nice weekend ahead. No step children as it's half term and we get them from Wednesday to next Sunday instead... I know I shouldn't enjoy 'time off' so much, but I do like a bit of peace! Got a civil partnership do tomorrow at a posh hotel, and a 70th birthday on Sunday. So free food and good times

Just a small tip. Had nachos last night... with a quarter of a jar of pickled jalapenos. This has led to painful consequences... someone stick a pin in me!

craftynclothy · 22/05/2009 11:48

I can't actually remember when I last posted

BabyBump - that sounds awful, hope you're managing ok.

The physio seems to have helped a little with the spd (well the support band anyway). I really can't afford to see an osteopath so am just trying to take things easy as much as possible. Doc's referral finally got through - got a letter about a group session at the hospital (takes 1.5-2 hours, no kids allowed) but no appointment time, you have to ring up and make one . Won't be bothering seeing as I've actually seen the physio one-to-one already.

Also had the Homestart co-ordinator round this morning. Hope I get matched with someone quickly but they're short of volunteers.

HeinzSight · 22/05/2009 12:34

kitkat, that's interesting re the celery seed extract, will google that for sure! Are up and running on FB yet?

I wish I'd seen an Osteopath during my last pregnancy, would have saved all that pain! We couldn't really affort it either but just had to IFSWIM.

Yank, how horrid having to strip though! I was lucky and was examined and treated fully clothed!

crafty, just being nosey, but what criteria is needed for a homestart volunteer to come and help?

Hawkmoth, ouch ouch re those jalapenos!!

This week has been crazy busy with hospital appointments! Monday Osteopath, Wednesday VBAC midwife app, Thurs DH's hosp app which lasted hours, this morning had antenatal with Anti D and blood test, this afternoon is physio!

Anyone heard from MichaelaS, I do hope everything's OK with Nathan.

quixotic · 22/05/2009 13:29

Hello - hurray for the the long weekend and the sun being out, leaving the office at 3pm to go to the Chelsea flower show today. Very excited, never been before. I am sure I will come away wanting to change career to be a gardener.

Glad to hear the Osteopath has been helping some of you.

Babybump - so sorry to hear about your stomach muscle, sounds awful.

Update on the ILs, both DH and I e-mailed her and said August is too soon as the baby might not have been born, and I would be glad of the company/help in later September October. She came back to DH (though sent nothing to me) and said FIL goes fly fishing in Sept/Oct! I think she realises August will not work anyway - he will have to prioritise whether the fishing or the grandchild is more important!!

craftynclothy · 22/05/2009 17:11

Heinz - I don't think there are any specific criteria, it's available to anyone who could do with extra support. One of my IMs referred me (she volunteers for homestart) just saying that I'm stuck in the house most of the time (spd) and am at risk of pnd (had it last time).

Yank - Just been reminded by Heinz. I had to strip at the physio and though OMG I don't remember the last time I removed hair. My bikini line is nearer my knees .

craftynclothy · 22/05/2009 17:13

Oh sorry, Heinz - in general it's only open to people with a child under 5 or pregnant. Other than that though there's no conditions (doesn't matter how much you earn, where you live, age or anything)

HeinzSight · 22/05/2009 17:30

that's interesting crafty, I'll have 2 under 5 when LO arrives and I suffered terrible PND last time and the previous two times, maybe I should get in touch with them too. LOL @ bikini line!

craftynclothy · 22/05/2009 17:39

It's worth getting in touch with them sooner rather than later as they 'match' you to a volunteer and it can take a while. They send a co-ordinator type person out to you who asks about your situation and what areas you're looking for support with, then look for a volunteer who can meet those needs and see if it's convenient with you (some volunteers only do certain hours, some arrange it week by week)

HeinzSight · 22/05/2009 20:00

good point crafty.
