Birth story..........
The proceedings I suppose started with a sweep on Tuesday afternoon. In the evening I had a bit of cramping, but nothing significant but on Wednesday walked/cleaned/shopped till I dropped. I went to bed at 10pm feeling fine (although annoyed that I was still pg and nothing was working) and went to sleep. At around 11.30 I woke up with annoying contractions which got harder and more frequent.
I phoned the hospital they told me to take paracetamol and have a bath, which I did but the contractions were getting closer and closer together. DH phoned them again and I went in. At this point (1.30am-ish) I was having contractions every 2 minutes and could hardly walk to the labour ward! I was monitored/given an internal and told that my contractions were too short to be effective and that I was only 1cm dilated (although my cervix was flat and I had had a bit of show). They were concerned however that the baby?s heart rate was dipping too much at times so I was kept in for monitoring.
The same continued for seemingly hours until they started discussing what they were going to do with me. The MW wanted to move me out for someone coming in for an elective CS but the doctor didn?t like the trace and wanted me induced . I had been in fairly significant agony throughout, because apparently my baby was B2B (she had swivelled at the last minute and this was only mentioned on the Tuesday). Therefore this was pretty scary, they were refusing me pethidine due to the dodgy trace and I decided I was going to have an epidural before they put in the drip. However??
At this point I had a second internal because ?you never know? and it turned out I was 6cm dilated so they started to take my ?labour? seriously. Before I knew it the MW had broken my waters and they now allowed me to have at least gas and air. It went on for a few hours and a couple more MWs, eventually my community MW turned up at 2pm for the late shift and it was really nice to actually see someone I knew! I had been allowed some pethadine at about 12 though because the trace by this time had been completely normal for two hours, so I couldn?t actually talk to her when she arrived as I barely knew my own name by this point! It really helped having a familiar face there though, particularly as the added bonus is that I also like her!
Nothing much of note happened (well that I can remember anyway) until the head was tricky to get out at the end and I had to have a cut to help things along. Then two more pushes, and the rest as they say is history .
I?ve just realised that there is loads that I just don?t remember from the pethidine induced haze. I?m not sure that stuff is helpful for good birth stories.
