Full moon here tomorrow. DH is convinced that I will give birth then.
Not much sign of it, but then again there wasn't any sign last time, it was 0-60 in double quick time.

Lovely pics, Boff, he looks gorgeous!!

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 08/04/2009 17:18

Sarah - after reading all the BF stories I've gone & bought Lansinoh and nipple shields too!!! How organised are we!!!

minush · 08/04/2009 17:21

Maybe I'll be having a full moon baby too Auld.
Absolutely no sign of anything yet though

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 08/04/2009 17:24

Hmm... does that full moon think count the first two weeks before conception?? If so I'm popping on Friday - if not, then next week!

More pineapple, anyone?

bronze · 08/04/2009 17:29

I'm not nesting. I'm panicking

AuldAlliance · 08/04/2009 17:33

The gynae I saw at the time of DS's birth said that one reason perineal physio is reimbursed here is because it helps prevent prolapse and related problems later in life, which cost far more to treat and are much more traumatic for women. A typically French way of sweepingly dealing with a potential problem that wouldn't affect everyone? TBH I have never read/heard anything suggesting that the aim is to promote anyone's sexual satisfaction, only to avoid incontinence and prolapse.

In Réunion, I was told by one MW that it would be preferable not to put on over 10kg, which seems very little, but was in fact what I put on with DS. Another MW said that she wouldn't have said 10kg was the max, and to be fair there is a huge problem on the island with gestational diabetes and diabetes more generally, as people have adopted the worst aspects of Western diet and lifestyle in the space of 20 yrs (young kids are now getting type 2, adult-onset diabetes), so they are very, very strict in their guidelines. No one actually put much pressure on me, though.

Here, the MW said a maximum of 15kg was their recommendation, which seems about right to me, based on my initial weight. But again, she didn't put much pressure on me about it, just recommended the usual common sense principles (eating wholewheat as opposed to refined products, limiting sugar and processed foods, avoiding fizzy drinks, etc.).

I agree that the woman who wrote the article may have encountered some seriously misogynistic doctors, as they do abound here...
What bugs me about the article is her odd way of slanting things to make it sound as if sex is at the centre of medical preoccupations, and women's worries, in France.

bronze · 08/04/2009 18:15

10 kilos is that about 1 stone 8lbs? Thats nothing when you consider my first baby was a stone pretty much and then you have waters, placenta etc. Doesnt give you much leeway.

bronze · 08/04/2009 18:16

sorry didnt mean so say he was a stone!!!
he was 9lb 14. Cant remember what I was actually trying to say but it still doesnt give you much leeway

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 18:19

I have put on 1 st 3 lb this preg and have mainly been eating chocolate and drinking fizzy drinks

I put on 2 st 9 lb with both my previous pregnancies and ate lots of meat, burgers etc with them but went off choc.

So I say choc is the way forward when preg

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 18:28

Finding it impossible to concentrate this afternoon, so will have to do only a vague catch up I'm afraid.

Boff, lovely story - especially how you just knew what to do. & 7 pushes / 5 minutes?! Lucky woman! & the photos are lovely I hope the SPD stays away now. That'll just be amazing for you!

Ginger, I'm really pleased that your MW is taking you seriously. Chances are it's nothing, but at least you'll have your mind put at rest - it's ridiculous that the GP has been so useless throughout.

Auld, you've said pretty much what I thought you would - I was looking forward to reading your take on it. I'm very happy that it's not representative of the French mindset - I didn't think that it would be, but obviously have no personal experience. God, I really hate the DM. So sensationalist & completely ridiculous.

I have a really weird feeling in my fanjo today. It's not constant by any means, but it feels almost like if you take a tampon out long before it's saturated - that sort of dragging sensation. Uncomfortable, but not painful, IYSWIM. Anybody else had that?

mathshoneybunny27 · 08/04/2009 18:36

FGS!!!

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 18:39

springy - I can imagine the sensation you mean but haven't felt it during this pregnancy, have had sharp shooting pains in the same kind of area though.

Oh dear MM, isn't the date you were predicted 18th July though?

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 18:40

I've had the shooting pains too, surprise. I have quite a few things today - I think I am getting closer. Not close, obviously. Close would never happen. But closer.

MM, any progress at all?

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 18:42

I feel quite uncomfortable today as well Springy, I don't know if it's anything to do with the MW poking around for ages this morning! You are getting close though, he will soon be here

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 18:45

I don't have a MW appointment until next Tuesday, when I'll be 3 days overdue. I last saw her on 29th March

TMI My discharge has changed colour a bit, too. Instead of being creamy-yellow, it's sort of yellowy-green. Not shockingly so, but like the colour of unsnapped yellow glowsticks. Is that normal, or am I going to find out it's some kind of infection or something?

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 18:49

that's a long time for appt isn't it,I thought it was every week now. Is it because of Easter?

I'm not sure about the discharge colour TBH, mine has increased but is a very thin watery white.

My nipple leakage has changed from clear water to thick bright yellow though- nice!!

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 18:55

It's because the MW appts are only available on Tuesdays (the 29th was a home visit on a Sunday to discuss birthplan) & the surgery was shut yesterday for training. She didn't even test my urine on the 29th, because she didn't bring sticks

My nipple leakage has actually gone from bright yellow to white-ish now. & has increased in volume & squirtiness. My boobs are bigger than they were this time last week, too.

I find it all really fascinating. Frustrating & uncomfortable, but it is quite fascinating seeing what your body can do.

BabyBunnyBolat · 08/04/2009 19:08

Springy - I might be wrong but I think you should call your ME about the discharge if it has changed colour - just to get it checked out! Sounds like your body is gearing up to go and duedate is only a few days away

BabyBunnyBolat · 08/04/2009 19:10

MW not ME!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 08/04/2009 19:11

BB - i'm so glad it's helping! (and don't you know how easy it is to make a pregnant woman cry?? stop it!!!!!)
i'm glad that my training has come in handy though!

took DS to see MOnsters vs aliens today. Dh is off to the football so i'm going to put the child to bed then come back to finish reading the thread and report on my day (ds was funny at the cinema!!)

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 19:12

I think you should call MW too Springy, greeny colour makes me think of an infection but with only days to go til due date maybe it is normal!

Can't believe MW didn't even test your urine, naughty!

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 19:13

Yeah, I'll phone her tomorrow if it doesn't change back. I only just noticed & it's a bit late now. It's a time when it'd be useful to be able to smell - I don't really want to wave it at DH & ask him if it smells funny

I feel very heavy down there, too - I think he may be completely engaged. I think he might just fall out

I've also had some feelings of nausea (but no vomiting) & quite a few bowel movements today (although not diarrhoea, more than usual). So whilst I doubt that it's kicking off just yet, it feels possible that it might be getting closer. Especially considering that going by my dates, even the most conservative ones, I'm due today.

surprisenumber3 · 08/04/2009 19:16

lol at asking DH to smell!

When I had DS2 I had so many bowel movements, the MW and DH were waiting outside the loo for ages asking if I was okay! Least I was all cleared out for the pushing stage! I would say you're well on the way Springy, labour vibes heading your way!!

SpringySponge · 08/04/2009 19:19

I'm not even going to start to get hopeful. I'm just taking heart from knowing that it is on the way to something - even if it isn't for another fortnight yet. It's been a while since it's felt like even a possibility that I may have a baby, so this is a pleasant, albeit very uncomfortable, change.
