surprisenumber3 · 10/04/2009 15:58

mmmm we have a toffee cheesecake in the fridge - had forgotten about that!!

There is about to be an update on the penguin thread.......

PuzzleRocks · 10/04/2009 16:00

[Scrambles over to penguin thread]

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 16:12

I'm having really annoying contractions again I can't sit down through them, so it's getting stupid trying to do anything. I've spent all day filling in millions of forms about housing benefit & things (I really don't want to have to do them all after the birth, so have just left the bits about LO's birthdate blank & done the rest - it's taken HOURS) & keep having to jump up for a few seconds. As if it's not difficult enough to concentrate on the million & one trick questions

Will catch up now - I hope someone's had a baby since I was last here...

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 16:15

springy ((hugs)) is it usual annoying contractions?
Are you sure it's not labour?

soon2befamilyof4 · 10/04/2009 16:17

With the oil - I always use something along the lines of grapeseed oil or almond oil. It works in the same way as olive oil and completly natural etc but doesn't stink. AND when we did baby massage - they said that olive oil can tint the skin!! So if you use too much, be prepared for a spray tan look on your baby! lol. I might actually pack some grapeseed oil in my hospital bag. I swear by i and t works wonders for cradel cap too.

My lovely sisters have taken DD for a couple of hours to walk round the shops. Not sure how long they will actually be out though as we all forgot about it being bank holiday hours and it is also chucking it down with rain! Making the most of being child free by getting some housework done and will need to hang the washing up when its done. Just come on here for a 10 min break and to catch up before I get too behind.

Thanks for the sleep link, I have had a quick look but will look properly later as I want to make the most of being child free at the mo! Would live the living room to be lovely and clean so I can relax all evening!

Unfortunatly she is too young to be bribed! Lovely idea though! She is 15 months and wouldn't have a clue. Doesn't even know we are going to have baby so will all be a shock in a couple of weeks!

I am really hoping that as my sisters are both off for easter hols, I will get a couple of babysitting sessions from them so i can get the house sorted! It is seriously awful! . I never like to take the piss with babysitting though - especially as I will need them when I go into labour. Although maybe that can be my excuse - that I need her to get used to being left with them! hehe!

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 16:23

Haha BB, nice try with the buddy rules WRT shiny purchases I wonder if frekkles' DP will get her us anything I don't think I stand a chance of getting anything from DH, to be honest. It's a bit meh, but I'd rather he'd spent the last however many months doing the washing up than bought me anything pretty. Not that something pretty would go amiss

Bleu, it's really good that she's only lost 6oz - you must be doing a great job with the feeding. You must be so proud xx

Auld, you're making cake? Will you be sharing with us? [cheeky]

bronze, how annoying about your DH! Talk about taking liberties...

Ooh, the penguin thread - looking forward to reading that next. It's like a silly school prank - excellent

Chicka, that exact ghost is exactly why I can't keep Mini Eggs in the flat anymore!

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 16:27

Actually, it'd not even crossed my mind that it'd be labour. That's how long I've been disappointed for I don't think it is, though. There aren't really any other new signs... I've not been paying attention to their regularity or anything, either. I suppose if it is something, it'll pick up & I won't be able to deny it anymore. As it is, I imagine they'll just go away.

soon2be, I'm just trying to imagine the shock of a baby suddenly appearing if you were somehow oblivious to it all It's like those women who just go into labour without any clue that they're pregnant (HOW?!) - imagine how impossible that'd be to get your head around...

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 16:29

well I'll still keep my hopes up for you springy, you're our only hope right now!

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 16:32

I should probably finish packing our hospital bags when I've finished watching this old episode of Grey's anyway - it can't be THAT long now, so I should get it sorted out. It's pretty shocking that it's not been done yet

AuldAlliance · 10/04/2009 16:36

Springy, here you go. That's the best I can do, I'm afraid . Oh, but I substituted 1 yoghurt pot of ground almonds for one pot of flour.
While I appreciate this is very, very premature for you, gâteau au yaourt is fab for baking with kids, because you use the yoghurt pot to measure all the ingredients. Bear that in mind in about 20 months!

Hope the contractions turn into something productive or else ease quickly.

Have MW appt for Easter Sunday at 9:30am. What a lovely time of day for acupuncture!

LaurenTheFertilisedEasterEgg61 · 10/04/2009 16:36

hellooo everybody no babies today??? had the most lazy day after a major nesting marathon yesterday, though i must have done too much as was in paaain last night, DP thought ollie was coming bless him was very nice to see him so concerned

LaurenTheFertilisedEasterEgg61 · 10/04/2009 16:39

ooh springy on the unknown pregnancy subject one of my nans friends daughters... (lol) gave birth last week to a little boy 3lb3oz and she says she didnt know she was pregnant, went home from work with stomach cramps and ended up having a baby!!

shes already got one little boy not 2 yet, how could you not know?!? ooh and she was 38weeks they worked out so not even early?! crazzzzy stuff i dont get how you just cant know!?

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 16:55

Ooh, Auld, that looks lovely. & I can't wait to do baking with him I get so excited about things like that. Will definitely bear it in mind!

I'm surprised you could get an appointment for then! Very impressive!

& Lauren, he was only 3lb3oz at 38 weeks? Why's that? Is she a smoker or something?

These contractions are really weird. I have a massive one & have to jump up because I simply can't sit through it, then I have two smaller ones that still really hurt but are slightly shorter & I can just about manage to still sit through. What's that about?

BoffinMum · 10/04/2009 17:00

I just like the consistency of almond and grapeseed oils. I have been known to put a couple of drops of mandarin or lavender and chamomile in them as well, but this was disapproved of by the course leader as it "Was Not Puritanical Enough" and "May Encourage People to Start Buying Expensive Things When We All Know Babies Do Not Need This" and "Capitalism Is A Big Anti Female Con". Get my drift??

A ghost made me eat a whole Lindt chocolate bunny on Wednesday. I mean, really forced me to. It said I had to either eat that or the placenta because I needed the special chocolate vitamins for postnatal recovery. So I had no choice.

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 17:03

springy I think this may just be the real thing

LaurenTheFertilisedEasterEgg61 · 10/04/2009 17:03

i dunno springy, i thought that was quite wierd too.. hes in neonatal for the next 8weeks, my nan doesnt know this lady as a close friend so doesnt want to ask too many questions.. apparently the mums lost it a bit because they didnt want any more kids at all, had chucked out all DS1's baby stuff so have nothing, ive given them two big bags of stuff i dont need (as we were given quite a lot from friends with kids) including some tiny baby size stuff that we are definately not going to need! But i just find it strange that with having a child not that long ago how could she not know??? My theory is that people that dont want the pregnancy deny it to themselves and just ignore it.. i dunno

LaurenTheFertilisedEasterEgg61 · 10/04/2009 17:05

springy maybe a bath will help relax you and baby? then if theyre still the same after you can re-assess then? ooh im excited for you =D

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 17:06

contractions are like that. You may have a huge one then wonder why next are a bit lighter. This is it I reckon

WhatFreshEggIsThis · 10/04/2009 17:08

Hello all - just popping in to say hello and check on any new baby arrivals - anyone?

We are getting close on names for Orbit Buttonhole - we may end up duplicating a name already on this thread (first name only, not middle names!), but given that he'll always be Orbit Buttonhole on here, we don't think that matters much.

I got birthday presents in bed this morning, then croissants, strawberries, raspberries and a glass of Prosecco for breakfast

And my mum has just come round with some fairy cakes, hooray!

On the washable nappy thing - do not switch to washables until all the meconium is out! that stuff is like tar, do not even attempt to wash it off anything.

Springy, here's hoping those contractions are the real thing this time!

SIL is coming shortly with her two DCs aged 4 and 2, so chaos will shortly reign the FreshHell home. If you hear from me again this evening, it's because Orbit and I have bolted upstairs and barricaded ourselves in my bedroom with the laptop!

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 17:10

Gosh, don't tell me it could be the real thing - if I even begin to hope it is & it's not again... It'll go away soon anyway, I'm sure. I'm just sorting out washing & things at the moment to keep my mind off it.

Boff, I think you definitely made the right call with the Lindt bunny vs plancenta. The thought of eating the placenta makes me feel all kinds of icky. How's Felix doing?

Lauren, it was very nice of you to give them some of your things - I can't imagine just having a baby & the panic of not having anything at all (let alone the emotional impact!)

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 17:12

Happy birthday WFH! & what an excellent morning!

Good to hear that you're getting close on names - have you managed to avoid calling him Orbit in real life so far?

Good luck with the house of chaos this evening - rather you than me! (& I'm allowed to say that, even though it's your birthday, because I'm still envious of your lovely morning.)

LaurenTheFertilisedEasterEgg61 · 10/04/2009 17:14

I know i still feel unprepared even though im sure weve got way too much of everything!!

no babies yet WFH unless springy springs one on us before midnight.. hahaa

PuzzleRocks · 10/04/2009 17:23

Boff - I like the sound of that. I'm going to add those to my shopping order. Thanks.

Springy - The need to stand/sit/stand is the first thing I remember when I went into labour with DD.

FreshHell - Sounds like a lovely day so far. Many happy returns. I feel a bit sad at the thought of him no longer being Orbit Buttonhole.

bronze · 10/04/2009 17:24

springy just pack that damn bag

I would avoid almond oil because of potential allergies, I'm pretty laid back- you know I'm stille ating brie etc but tree nut allergies can be potentially fatal. Stick with the grapeseed, olive or as I do the hemp.
I agree about smell with olive. We use to say ds1 smelt like a posh chippy.

bronze · 10/04/2009 17:25

Puzzle he will always be Orbit to us
