S2B at your MIL

My own Mother is a strident feminist (she actually prefers the term women's libber , and will hold forth as to why - at HUUUUUUUUUUUGE length). I grew up having it drummed into me that marriage was a patriarchal institution etc etc etc (my Mother and father ahve been married for over 40 years BTW] and that she would not attend my wedding - if I made the mistake of getting married - on ideological grounds. Hmmm, so I got married in a registry office in France, 2 witnesses, no party, no other guests and she threw a wobbler. I think she was genuinly upset to not be invited. Ahhhhhhhh parents! Can't wait to get down to confusing my own DD

Well, I was sure that labour had started at 3 something this morning. Was having quite painful contractions - going round to my back and down my thighs. They were about every 10 minutes apart for 1.5 hours, with the occasional more frequent ones. Also had more bleeding this morning. Ended up phoning the midwife on call around 5am, because she lives about 50 miles away. So she came as well as a local midwife. However, the contractions seemed to tail off around the time they came. They suggested I try to get some rest - so went back to bed around 6am for an hour. Only had 2-3 contractions when I was in bed....and then they were gone when I woke up....and haven't really returned! The midwives left at 8 something this morning and one of them came back recently to check on me. Decided to have an internal, but turns out I've not started dilating yet - cervix still not exacty favourable either - she could just barely feel baby's head with 1 finger. Sooo, no established labour! But since it's my 3rd, she says things can happen quickly - just need to get some contractions, and strong ones too!! However, midwife hasn't told me to do anything too active - only a short walk if I feel like it. Even told me to have a nap! So just have to have patience I guess!

Evie Anne is great. Will it be Evie with Anne as a middle name, or both names as first names? I think it works either way.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 09/04/2009 11:36

Rachel aawwww ((hugs))

i think there is a contraction theif on the loose stealing everyones labors/contractions........ the dirty dogs!!!

Oh rachel! It sounds exhausting - and frustrating -!

surprisenumber3 · 09/04/2009 11:39

Anne will be a middle name - it has sentimental meaning in our family so it will mean a lot to my family to use it

minush · 09/04/2009 11:40

Yep Suprise! They're like evil easter bunnies. Come easter Sunday, there'll be a contraction hunt rather than an easter egg hunt.

minush · 09/04/2009 11:42

Nutty, rather!

Suprise, I'm using a family name as a middle name too.

minush · 09/04/2009 11:44

Just discovered DH took the last gaviscon the swine!

surprisenumber3 · 09/04/2009 11:45

minush

you can't be long now Rachel - fingers crossed for you.

Right I need to get my lazy ass up and dressed and fed and do a bit of housework. DS's have got themselves ready bless them, at times like this I love the big age gaps!!

Schulte · 09/04/2009 11:47

Evie Anne is a beautiful name. I prefer Anne to Anna I think but DH says no

frekkles · 09/04/2009 11:50

hey girls. Sorry I'm no around much, my boyfriend spilt beer over my laptop at the weekend and therefore I am internetless. And probably laptop less! It's currently drying off on a radiator. grrr.

frekkles · 09/04/2009 11:53

phdlife · 09/04/2009 11:59

minush · 09/04/2009 12:00

Wicked tease!

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 09/04/2009 12:06

Morning all! I've had a lovely lie-in today and am cooking Moussaka for lunch - anyone keen for a bite?

Very strange evening yesterday - after my little bit of egg-whitey mucous DH had a COMPLETE freak-out on me... he was absolutely terrified that this could be it, and was pale and shaky and totally scaring me - even though we've been preparing for this for 9 months!! Not the reaction I was expecting at all!
We talked about it after dinner, and he said he was all of a sudden really scared of seeing the person he loves most in the world in the pain he knew was coming. And even though he was excited about the "after" when she's here, he is afraid he'll resent the baby for causing me so much agony and couldn't get past that.... he then whipped out all our NCT notes and is re-reading them all. What a change to last week - all excited and curry for dinner and jokes about prostaglandin smoothies etc etc... it's like reality has hit and he's not coping very well...
He wants us to have a special evening in tonight, and says he has something to give me. I think he might be talking about the bling he has been hinting about for ages - it's fantastic but it's almost like he wants to give it to me BEFORE she comes, in case anything happens to me! I feel quite worried now - not just because labour is imminent but because my previously fine-with-everything DH is freaking out... any advice girls?

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 09/04/2009 12:06

Frekkles - fab to hear from you sweety xx glad your ok BOOO!!! for the laptop fingers crossed the drying off works!!

PHD -

minush · 09/04/2009 12:09

Kitty, No advice really, but it's probably good that he has had his panic now, rather than when you are really in labour.
I struggled to convince my DH to be at birth with me, and TBH, I'm still terrified that he will freak out on me.

minush · 09/04/2009 12:10

Off to buy more Gaviscon now, bye bye

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 09/04/2009 12:11

Kitty - this is very very normal!!! he's just feeling helpless and not sure how he's going to deal with it (he's not been through the pg to get used to it) he's just had a bit of realisation dawn on him (bless), lots of reassureance from you that you are fine and that you will be fine and that you feel confident it will go well, and that yes there will be pain but it's pain with a purpous and that you need him to be strong with you not just for you xx

it is just another way of showing how much he loves you, very sweet really he will be fine when the time comes. ((hugs))

phdlife · 09/04/2009 12:17

think it's a toughie for all men - they just want to FIX THINGS. Mine didn't freak out, but when I was sick he told the MW I'd always been rubbish at vomiting. Cheers, dh!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 09/04/2009 12:30

oooooopppss just ate a family sized trifle was really nice though
