BB - That's exactly how I felt after having DD, I know what I am letting myself in for next time. But honestly, that's not how I feel now, i'm not the least bit anxious. Selective memory is a fabulous thing.
What bloods, his guthrie?

conkertree · 08/04/2009 08:44

morning folks - dh home today so going to go swimming and have people for dinner. another steak, guinness and cheese pie i think is called for.

congratulations bumpalump. look forward to hearing the name.

bb - was going to suggest exactly the same - bathtime as daddy time and you go off and have 10 mins to yourself. and he can get in the bath to have skin to skin if he wants too.

saw the november ladies were beating us yesterday in the most popular conversations. but then it is nice to be able to catch up at the end of the day without 500 posts to read

viewer was originally from this village so keen to move back so thats promising as only a couple of houses in this price range on, and while i'm biased i think ours is the nicest. so will see what happens.

hope everyone has a good day. feeling rather queasy after that toilet picture however.

brettgirl2 · 08/04/2009 08:44

Unfortunately nothing so glamorous, qualification development, so I have to annoy people by obsessing over tiny, weeny details haha. It's not generally customer facing btw!

I guess although you know what to expect it's kind of a bit late to worry now isn't it?

conkertree · 08/04/2009 08:46

oh and meant to ask - the first real craving i've had this pg kicked in recently - wanting to smell chemicals. anyone else had this?

it all started with springy and her damn sponges that after she'd talked about, i couldnt get out of my head. sponges lead to bathrooms and bathroom chemicals specifically.

cleaning for the viewers yesterday the toilet cleaner just smelt sooooo good - didnt want to leave the room.

PuzzleRocks · 08/04/2009 08:51

True Brettgirl. I think also I know what is coming so I am ready to face it head on this time. Bring it on, i'm going to eat that pain.

PuzzleRocks · 08/04/2009 08:53

Conker - I have always been fond of the smell of Domestos anyway.

BabyBolat · 08/04/2009 09:00

Puzzle, I don't know, was just told he would have his bloods done!

Conker the last few weeks I really wanted to sit and smell bark - but that has a kind of chemically smell!!!

November ladies are beating us? !! Right, Smutts, Springy, Boff get on this now - all you waiting ladies start typing!!!

PuzzleRocks · 08/04/2009 09:12

BB - If it's his guthrie (heel prick) it is a tiny scratch with a needle and they press his foot to some card. Blink and you would miss it. He probably won't even notice. There's no syringe involved.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 08/04/2009 09:21

morning everyone!

do you realize that there were NO babies born yesterday?! (that we know of) we broke our streak!!

BB and Bleu - have i talked about the wonders of skin to skin contact yet? turn the heat up, strip off (you and baby) and go to bed. bask in the snuggly warmness. there is nothing better for feeding than skin to skin! and if you are so inclined you could try laying down to feed. the first time DS drained my boobs we were lying down. or take baby into the bath with you. you'll be relaxed and warm and so will baby. (and more skin to skin!)

we have barely left the house this week so today we are going out! the thing is that 1. it's raining and 2. it's school holidays. so parks are out and soft play (and everywhere else inside) will be mobbed with school kids. DS wants to go swimming, but i don't think i have the energy for that. so i think we've settled on going to see Bolt. or maybe Monsters vs Aliens (which he'd rather see but i think it'll be busier). hmmm, not sure.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 08/04/2009 09:22

Morning All

Suprise - Good Luck awith the MW

BB - definately bathtime and maybe read a story afterwards or a bit of play they dont understand right now of course but it nice for them to hear daddy's voice BB good luck with the hospital today xx

Lauren - good luck today

Juw- ((hugs)) it will be soon you're past your due date now so it really might not be much longer!! if you're anything like i was with dd you wont have any signs then BAM contractions, show and full on labour all at once xx

Conker - oohhh that sounds promising about the viewing

Pah November ladies dont stand a chance its just gone a bit quiet here for cos people have gone off to have babaies and their still in the incubation stage!!

BabyBolat · 08/04/2009 09:38

Purple what position would you use for feeding skin to skin?

BabyBunnyBolat · 08/04/2009 09:39

Just trying out my new bunny ears!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 08/04/2009 09:41

Very Nice BB they suit you

OP posts:
JuwEggsm · 08/04/2009 09:46

I like the incubating one. I do like a rhyming title!

Today I have two strategies for inducing labour:

  1. Bouncing bouncing bouncing on the ball to bounce LO right down into pelvis and straight out of there
  2. Squeeeze baby out by stuffing my face with food! I have had two breakfasts so far, and am about to have some crumpets!

Slightly concerned that bouncing + over-eating may be an unwise move on my part.....

JuwEggsm · 08/04/2009 09:48

Now who is it that has the pineapple prostaglandin smoothies?

Has anyone heard from Kali? She's a bit overdue but I can't remember whether she'd said there was a reason she wouldn't be around?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 08/04/2009 09:49

any position. it's not just the feeding, but the contact that is important and will help the feeding. seems silly but it's true. as i said i found lying down best for emptying my breasts (i had trouble with cradle hold for while) (just make sure you put a towel or something down...there will be dribblage!) but you can sit up and do cradle hold or pile up some pillows and do rugby ball.
but you don't have to feed during skin to skin for it to help feeding. it helps regulate baby's temperature and relaxes him/her. and dad's can do it too! (obviously not the feeding bit...)
i'm trying to find some info on line but so far all i've turned up is stuff about skin to skin right afer birth. i'll keep looking though.

conkertree · 08/04/2009 09:55

i found lying down feeding quite hard for a month or two, but suddenly we got it - not sure what changed but we both just seemed to get it.

purple- we havent left the village for days so are breaking free today since dh is off - i know it will be mobbed but going to try the Time Capsule at Coatbridge - think if we go now, there might not be too many kids out of their beds yet (wishful thinking).

hopefully there will be some nice pool cleaning chemicals there too

Carameli · 08/04/2009 09:58

Hi all and congrats to all these new babies that have arrived.
I still have another 3wks or hopefully slightly less to wait. Getting a bit fed up of it now to be honest just want to get on with the next stage.
We have a carpenter here this week putting skirting boards in the renovated rooms and putting up new post and staircase bannisters. Have splashed out a bit of this as want to make the hall look really fab. Getting nickel and acrylic panels put in. Can't wait till it is all done in 2 days

Had 37wk(mix up with weeks so 37, 39 etc now) midwife check up yesterday and all was fine apart from slightly low blood pressure, mw joked I was too relaxed with just two young children and a house renovation to deal with. Nothing like doing it all at once.

lo is in the right position and such a wriggler. Just hope it does not mean a delivery that is as fast as ds. I got to the hospital and was fully dilated and he was there in 2hrs. Was a bit of a shock at the time but eprhaps getting it over and done with fast is the best way to go.

minush · 08/04/2009 10:01

Good Morning everyone!
It's great to see so many new arrivals, even though there are LOTS of overdues - hope they pop out soon.
Huge congratulations to Oddeyes, WFH Bleu, Bumpalump, Babybolat, Mrs Fossil and Boffin Mum. Doesn't sound like any of you had esay labours, but now you have your gorgeous little babies
I love the names you've chosen (particularly Orbit Buttonhole of course . I'm looking forward to checking out the pics and catching up on all the birth stories when I have a moment.
Lauren, I LOVE your idea of a labour predictor pee stick. Get inventing it girl and your baba will grow up in the lap of luxury. Not too fussed when baby is born as she isn't giving me much pain (just fecking insane hormones . But if I knew she wasn't coming for a few days I could get on with stuff, whereas if I knew she was popping out tomorrow, I'd grab my last opportunity for doing bugger all and retire to my boudoir.
As it is, I must live with the uncertainty so I'm going to assemble the changing table, and possibly the cot after that.
MathsMummy, sounds like you've been having a really miserable time of it . Come on baby Maths time to come out.

minush · 08/04/2009 10:16

Lovely easter smileys
Not really envious, just like the look of the mutant green bunnikins. Although I do wish I Iwas having my baby in England. All this talk of midwives, labour plans and home births and hot tubs and birthing balls in the labour wards has me most homesick. Here it's all obstetricians, cesareans, forceps and stirrups. My last appointment was hysterical. I 'saw' the midwife - blood pressure, weight, peeing on a stick, test results then had my 'consultation' with the obs. He stirruped me up felt my cervix, listened to the heartbeat, said the goal is in sight and then ran out of the room and dragged his next patient in before I could ask any questions (bshock]. Managed to grab a midwife and ask her what else I needed to do before the baby came, she said nothing and ran away too. I have no idea if the babies breech or engaged or ..... anything really! Guessing all is well, as although they're not big on patient choice here - France- (at least not in big public they are fairly hospitals) they are fairly thorough about tests and poking and prodding. Baby minush is coming out one way or another, more amused than worried at French medical system. Ohhhhhhhhh and after the birth I can have 8 free private part recovery sessions! Love the French priorites!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 08/04/2009 10:17

I'm convinced this baby just doesn't want to be born! 3rd day with painful contractions (tho not regular enough) and 3rd day since plug started coming out (yesterday & today with bloody show) but stilllllll no baby or established labour! Help!

minush · 08/04/2009 10:19

Good luck with self induction Juw.
Hmmmmmmmmmm see only my envious easter smileys worked. Is my subconcious/mumsnet trying to tell me something
