Springy - This is true. I'm practically undernourished

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:40

Puzzle, that's just beautiful, it really is.

WFH, what do you mean that Orbit Buttonhole isn't his official name? How is he? & how is DS1 adjusting?

Schulte · 07/04/2009 13:42

BB yes get that breast emptied - put him on as soon as he wakes up and make sure he drinks it all. If you can feel any little lumps you should stroke over the lumps towards your nipple as he feeds, to make sure the milk ducts all empty, otherwise you risk developing mastitis at some point. And yes, as Springy has said, warm flannel or warm bath will help get the milk flowing. I used to hand express into the bath when my breasts got lumpy / started feeling engorged.

PuzzleRocks · 07/04/2009 13:42

I though it was too, what with the O names thing for boys. Although that's out the window now that BB and Boffin have refused to play ball

bronze · 07/04/2009 13:44

I've just had pancakes. anything to get rid of some eggs. Gave two lots of neighbours a large box each this morning and still have over a dozen. I'm being over run

BB when ds1 was about a month old we went for a meal in the village for our anniversary leaving him with mil (she would have to do one feed max and probably not that). I got really painfully engorged though and had to express into the sink at the restaurant. Being a mum is sooo glamourous

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:45

BB & Boffin are just total spoilsports [pouts]

bronze · 07/04/2009 13:45

I love the name orbit buttonhole. I bet when he has an official name you still find yourself referring to him as orbit

Schulte · 07/04/2009 13:49

Sorry just saw that everyone else has already given advice to BB - I am too slow! BB don't be tempted to only express from that side, I found that expressing actually made my nipples worse rather than better. Bruised, like you describe yours. And the baby's sucking stimulates milk flow better.

LOL at Puzzle's DD. My DH managed to stick his fingers in DD's poo recently when he moved her nappy to check if she had done one

So restaurants and newborns... I'd quite like to treat myself to a nice meal once this one is out but do you think it would be unfair to the other diners to bring a 3 or 4 week old baby along with you?

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 13:50

Puzzle - what have i told you about giving blowjobs to packets of cookies Lol at your dd

WFH - you know hes just going to be Orbit to all of us now regardless of what you settle on

OP posts:
bronze · 07/04/2009 13:51

I think thats the perfect age to lug them along with you

Oh the bliss of small babies (and only small babies)

Schulte · 07/04/2009 13:54

Do you not think the other diners might be a bit pissed off if baby starts crying in restaurant though? The one I'd like to go to is slightly posh...

soon2befamilyof4 · 07/04/2009 13:54

mmmm pancakes. I want some now! Typical I didn't see that when DD was still asleep!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:01

Schulte - should be fine if baby is fed and changed and ready for a nap just before you go

OP posts:
NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:14

is it just me or has anyone elses skin gone to pot?? my face has gone really dry but with not spots as such but little lumps (pre spots i suppose) it's just my face too?? grrr

OP posts:
B52s · 07/04/2009 14:15

Schulte - agree with Nutty. Babies that young mostly sleep, with some feeding and a little crying between. If you are able to discreetly bf or provide a bottle there shouldn't be much crying. And I'll bet even posh people will look on adoringly (at bubs, not at you).

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:17

got a strange "click here to upload a picture for your add" link on all my posts??? whats with that???

OP posts:
B52s · 07/04/2009 14:18

Nutty - I've been having crap skin the last month. Just bumpy - no proper spot to squeeze all over my cheeks. Dry lips too. Apparently it's due to hormones (what isn't?). With DS1 I had bad skin for about 6 months after he was born too, so birth isn't the cure for this one. Did you get it with DD?

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:19

B52s - not that i can remember, pesky hormones!!

OP posts:
bronze · 07/04/2009 14:21

mines very blotchy but no spots or anything. Just doesnt look good. Dry lips here too

WhatFreshEggIsThis · 07/04/2009 14:22

He'll always be Orbit Buttonhole to me

DS1 is ok - very sweet with the baby, playing up like anything with me and DP though, lots of No's and Don't Want To's. Not sure how much of it is to do with new baby and how much is just being a three year old, and me not having much patience with him. Am sure it will all settle down soon!

Orbit actually slept from 10pm to 1am, then woke up at 4am and 7am, but didn't do his normal 10pm-1am wide awake slot, so I'm feeling a lot better today. DP is a magician at getting him to settle, better than me, I suspect I smell too milky and interesting....

Everyone except DP leaked last night - Orbit had a leaky nappy, DS1 had a leaky nappy, I leaked milk everywhere. I asked DP what he was leaking, to join in the family fun, and he said 'Energy' rather glumly. Poor man has been running around looking after us in the most fantastic way and is now working in London for the day, he needs a break.

On the plus side, it's my birthday on Good Friday! Hooray!

JuwEggsm · 07/04/2009 14:24

See, Puzzle, accidentally falling and landing with your mouth on a packet of biscuits is more common than you might think. This is what they are referring to when they say most accidents happen in the home!

Well I have been swept. A touch uncomfortable but not too bad. Much quicker than I thought - I had envisioned a kind of gentle sweeping and stretching and poking taking a bit of time, but it was quite briskly done and over fairly quickly! A bit of blood since, but not really a show. In fact, I think my plug may have been liquified and stolen during the process! Apparently my cervix is nicely far forwards, 50% effaced and 1cm dilated, cervix fans. As far as I can tell, that doesn't make for a very promising Bishop's Score (though they don't appear to use that here), esp as am nulliparous and post-term!

I DON'T WANT TO BE INDUCED!!!

Walked the long way home for further encouragement. Perhaps I will hit the RLT this afternoon (though you can't dip a HobNob in that). Booked for another sweep at home on Sat if nothing has happened, and have been booked in for induction on Tuesday. I didn't argue about induction, as I didn't really have it in me at the time, but if nothing has happened by Monday, I may phone one of the other MWs and tentatively ask about expectant management.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:32

WFH - aww bless your leaky family ooohhhh happy Birthday for Friday!! (lol dont forget to share the virtual cake)

Juw - i will have your tuesday induction for you gladly!! on a serious note they cant make you have it, just say you have changed your mind and you dont want it after all xxx

OP posts:
conkertree · 07/04/2009 14:34

yay for Boffin - well done. Look forward to hearing more about little Felix.

And sounds like a few others are tentatively on their way to more babies.

I've had some period type pains today and a sore back but probably from being on my feet a lot cleaning and tidying - house now ready to show people - they;d better not cancel now .

ds finally napping so time for some chocolate and yet more rlt i think. Am I the only one who quite likes the taste?

JuwEggsm · 07/04/2009 14:41

Nutty - if you can make it to Ashford for 7.30 next Tuesday, you can have it! MW didn't ask me if I wanted it/ was okay with it/ whether I had any questions or anything, just phoned the hospital and booked it! I probably should have made my feelings known then and there, but I figured it doesn't hurt for it to be booked - as you say, I don't have to go! Who knows, by this time next week, I may have changed my mind!

Conker - I don't mind the taste of RLT, tastes like most other fruity teas to me. Well, actually, tastes like boiled twigs, but as long as it's hot I find it palatable enough!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 14:52

Juw - hopefully things will start moving for you soon, the word "induction" seems to scare babies out of the womb (i had dd/ went into labour hours before i was due to be induced ), i will hold off booking the train tickets just incase though xx
