i'm glad i'm not the only one!!
am attmepting to have a shower now. though have put it off for 10 mintues while i bleach my 'tache. (oh yeah i'm sexy!)

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 12:59

These days I don't get dressed unless I'm going out. & I very rarely go out. I just change into various tops & knickers.

& the sponge would be way less irritating to share a bed with - it doesn't thrash around or make daft noises. Probably wouldn't be quite so good at the sexy side of stuff, although I've not tried.

Yet.

lou031205 · 07/04/2009 13:02

Hi all, congratulations to the new arrivals.

I am 38+1 now, and have just been to the hospital for another growth scan.

The midwife measured, and measured, and measured for AGES, frowning, and eventually I said "has the growth slowed? It's not a surprise." She said "Why is that?" At that point I felt it only kind to remind her that the entire reason I was being regularly scanned was because I have had two previous inductions for IUGR .

Anyway, baby is estimated to be 6lb 3oz, so growth of only 6oz in two weeks, and fluid is now at 8.6cms.

Induction is booked for Friday - yipee!!!!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 13:07

Springy - and LOL at yet

Lou - yay for Friday induction it will be a Good Friday indeed!!

BabyBolat · 07/04/2009 13:07

Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow - my right boob has gone rock hard!!! WTF???

BabyBolat · 07/04/2009 13:09

Springy LOL - yet! Lou yay for induction - you'll have your very own easter bunny this weekend!!! Xmas Grin

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:10

Ooh, another definite baby on the horizon for lou!

BB, could be engorgement?

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:12

I think to treat engorgement you can try hot flannels on your boob, & express some milk off / feed from that side.

But I'm sure somebody will know better

BabyBolat · 07/04/2009 13:12

even!!!

Springy engorgemewhat???!!

Right am googling how to get rid of it as that hurts more than labour (YEAH RIGHT!!!!)

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:15

It's where your boob(s) get too full of milk, basically - it'll settle down once your supply's established, but it's really common in the first few days.

I'm not sure that that's what it is, but it seems like a logical guess from what you've said.

BabyBolat · 07/04/2009 13:15

He's due a feed in about half an hour so I will make sure he is on that side- to be fair tis probably my fault though as that was the nipple that hurt so have fed him on the other side today rather than mix them up!!

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:21

Yep, my book says:

'Even if your nipples are very sore, it will not help to stop feeding and rest them... You may complicate the problem by developing engorgement because you are not draining your breasts, and engorgement makes it even harder for the baby to get a good mouthful of your breast. Another complication can be that your milk supply is reduced because you don't have the regular stimulation of feeding.'

So basically, express a little bit off before you try to feed him so it's easier for him to latch. & I suppose that if you do need to avoid one breast in particular, you should express the equivalent off yourself, if you can - at least you can sort of avoid the nipple - so as to not reduce your supply.

You won't have done any damage just from this morning, but it's obviously best to prevent problems if you can

soon2befamilyof4 · 07/04/2009 13:24

Lou - Yay for induction! I am Jelous! Can I ask why you are being induced? Just purly out of interest? Was it you I was talking to about bumgenious nappies?

I am SO tired. DD is still asleep on the sofa after our sleepless night. I know I should wake her so she sleeps tonight but I just can't face it!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 07/04/2009 13:24

that's definintley engorgement. you might need to express a bit of milk off to that Karra can get latched on properly. (NO NIPPLE FEEDING!!) i found that when i got engorged like that DS just couldn't get his little mouth wide enough.

BabyBolat · 07/04/2009 13:25

Luckily he has a big mouth so we should be ok!!!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 07/04/2009 13:26

if the nipple is far enough back so that it;s only hitting the soft pallet then feeding shouldn't make it any worse. it's when it's rubbing against the hard pallet that it can get grazed and sore.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 07/04/2009 13:28

BB Lol at big mouth

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:29

I'm far more proud than I should be that I diagnosed a common breastfeeding problem. This can be my role on your postnatal thread, seeing as I won't ever have a baby

I can sit & learn about breastfeeding all day & advise the first timers on things whilst the old hands are too busy with their multiple children to help very frequently. I'll be the poor woman's version of a BF counsellor

PuzzleRocks · 07/04/2009 13:31

My mouth just fell on an entire packet of Maryland cookies.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 07/04/2009 13:32

i need to get some cookies and cakes and chocolate in the house. but can i be bothered to walk to the shops?? it looks like it might rain.

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 13:33

Puzzle, there are only about 5 cookies in each of those packets. & they have a really small diameter. At first glance they look like a proper packet of biscuits, but they're just not. You've only eaten the equivalent of about 3 normal biscuits

PuzzleRocks · 07/04/2009 13:36

Here's a lovely story. A short while ago DD appeared to be fishing around down the back of her nappy. She the presented me with a poo covered hand amid cries of "uh-oh" and "smelly!".

WhatFreshEggIsThis · 07/04/2009 13:36

Just popping in, DP went to London on business today so have been at home with DS1 and Orbit Buttonhole - luckily grannie came over to help as I was about to throw one of them out of the window! Grannie has taken DS1 to her house to play this afternoon, phew.

Orbit Buttonhole still not got an official name, we'll get there in the end. Honest.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to MrsFossil - am very of your VBAC, well done you.

Also to BoffinMum, talk about setting a record for fast labour!

Hope you're both well and happy.

BabyBolat have you tried rugby ball position for feeding, with the baby tucked under your arm? Can really help drain the whole breast, if you can feel solid lumps in your breast then try alternating positions to make sure all the ducts are draining well. Blocked ducts can lead to mastitis which is not nice at all - if you get any red hot patches on your breast, and a temperature, get thee to a doctor asap.

The piercing pain will settle down, I had it at first with both boys as well, but if you can bear it and push on through it gets much easier. Honest! Sounds like you're doing a sterling job already.

And rock hard boobs is engorgement, it's when the milk comes in fully and it will ease in a day or so - you might need to express a little so Karahan can latch on, as it's quite difficult to latch onto a rock!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 07/04/2009 13:39

lol puzzle!! (and ewwwwwww!)
