Starting new thread ladies, in honour of Spangle.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 19:13

runningmonkey It's never too late to start the hypnobirthing CD's. Look at Spangle, she only listened 1x and she seemed to have coped really well with her labour.
It took me about 2 days for it to sink in that ds was my baby and not some one else's. Up until then it just felt like I was looking after him for someone else and that I'd have to give him back when I went home.
Hope your friend's induction goes well.

DH just made me . We're building a new porch, well, he is together with a builder friend of his. Anyway, he was complaining he'd spent £200 on sand and bricks and stuff, and... he'd only just started! My dear dh, sometimes lives in his own little world when it comes to how much things cost, did he really think he'd build a whole porch, for under £200!

Oh and Tummum Grumpy and Frazzled I told DH that there are husbands out there resisting their wives' attempt to have a hb and that they'd rather see them in hospital with an epidural. His reaction was: What's wrong with them? . Just pass on the message, that he thinks its normal and perfectly safe!

pulapula · 08/04/2009 19:18

I would also add to all those nervous DHs resisting HBs that from what I've heard, you get one, if not two MWs at a home birth, where as in hospital, I was sharing my MW with other mums in labour, which i wasn't expecting since i arrived 7cm dilated. Therefore that should help them feel more relaxed...

llareggub · 08/04/2009 19:31

Just a quick one as my mother is here....spangle well done! I can't wait to see some pictures. DS was under the phototherapy lamp too, and I was so in denial about his jaundice. I kept telling anyone who would listen he was just olive skinned! We were in for 6 days I think in the end, and it is all a blur now.

I've had those pains again, and chocolatebunnies I really, really think it is wind for me too!

windows cleaned mine yesterday. Maybe it isn't wind! And it is a full moon...

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 19:37

pula you're right. You get 2 mw at a homebirth. You tend to start off with one and when the 2nd stage is imminent she phones her colleague to join her.

detsy · 08/04/2009 19:38

Tut tut t the chat this afternoon I'm shocked quite frankly even tho I'm super human

Yes - apparently if you digest man juice the gut is much more efficient at digesting it and getting into your bloodstream so much more effective than splodging it around your cervix.... Don't knowhow many litres/gallons you are supposed to consume tho

Which squishes all the stuff I used to believe that spunk in your tummy never goes away lol

Fraxx darling I'll come up but I'll have a newborn and a toddler in tow but I'd love to be at a birth - think it must be amazing! And would love to lock DH in your garage too - men can be so selfish. I'd stick to your guns, its your body and your birth, if you want to do it at home, then you do that.

detsy · 08/04/2009 19:44

frazz too...

detsy · 08/04/2009 19:46

And.... i can only ever swallow when absolutely totalled so no chance of that now!!!!!

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 19:53

I was wondering whether frazz had a new nickname, detsy

Spit or swallow , neither if it were completely up to me (but sometimes I have to give him what he wants). I would have thought your stomach would have destroyed all the 'goodness' in the man juice. Otherwise why give women the prostin vaginally??? Why not induce with tablets? Anyway, I'm not going to try that one, because there's no way I can take a position where dh and I could line up in such a way that we can try that one

FiKelly · 08/04/2009 19:57

Spangle many congrats to you and in awe you got to 8 cms before they took you seriously!

re dh's and home births.. I wanted one last time as I knew I'd have a midwife with me for the whole time.. as belgian said maybe even 2 all to myself. in hospital they drift in and out between all ladies in labour and if you go into next shift time then you get another different one each time. at home the mw stays from start to finish. major bonus imo. would go for it if I could this time but due to pe etc last time it's hospital for me this time.

got my next check re baby position next wk.. hoping she's back to head down and not transverse/breech. I read through the spinning babies stuff (thanks belgian) and have been doing the all 4's bum in air etc. fingers crossed it's worked

the physio gave me a belt this am and have to say it has helped today.. bump not so heavy and sore this evening.

just eaten 3mini magnum's on the trot if there had been more in the freezer I might not have stopped there! dh got me a ball on way home to sit on and he'll blow up when back from doing our food shopping

off to hang out the clothes washing I forgot I did this afternoon!

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 20:01

fi funny how all the healthy eating intentions go in the last month or so, isn't it. I've been non stop munching on all sorts of rubbish too and I'm waiting for dh to go back to work so I can eat my secret box of B&J chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream
Hope the bum up in the air thing works for you. As I said it did for me!

I just did one of those silly facebook quizzes about how many babies will you have. The result: 3 girls

FiKelly · 08/04/2009 20:03

err meant he'll blow it up when he gets back..

CoteDAzur · 08/04/2009 20:15

Sperm on cervix - Good to get labour going
Sperm in stomach - Useless male fantasy

Congratulations Spangle! Enjoy the first days of your little man. Don't you just love that baby smell?

bekkaboo · 08/04/2009 20:15

Hi everyone, not had time to catch up todays conversation yet. Had consultant app today and ive got my date for CS which is 8th May, 4 weeks Friday cant wait!!

CoteDAzur · 08/04/2009 20:18

I also had my appointment with doctor today. After much haggling (see my thread in Childbirth board), I we decided on CS and set a date of 27 May.

Which will be a day shy of 40 weeks for me Is that normal? What happens if I go into labour naturally before then? Can he still do a c-section?

pulapula · 08/04/2009 20:23

Cote- as far as i know, if you are booked for a cs, then if you go into labour, they still do it, but as an emcs rather than elcs.

belgianchocs- i did one of those silly FB quizzes and it said i was going to have 2 children- and here i am expecting no.3!

Tummum · 08/04/2009 20:24

Oh dear. I am worried now... I've cleaned the windows, it's a full moon and now I suddenly have an urge to clean the microwave. Should I be concerned???

flippineck · 08/04/2009 20:26

Fi - so jealous of your magnums, I could really eat one or four now. DH has got to go out later to get some cash, maybe I'll suggest he goes to Sainsburys for me!

Anyone know anything about foetal positioning? MW reckons that this one is head down (good!) and is lying with its spine at right angles to mine - so lateral, not posterior. She suggested that I try to encourage it to get a bit more anterior (spine to front) but didn't suggest how to do it, anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Gert - forgot to say earlier that there are various less mainstream things you can try to turn LO like reflexology, moxibustion and acupuncture. Seeing a chiropractor with experience of something called Webster's technique (I think it is) is also suggested. There's an interesting book called 'Breech Birth' by Benna Waites that outlines things you can try to turn the baby.

FiKelly · 08/04/2009 20:30

cote I'm sure you will still be able to have a cs.. I suppose they'll just act fast so your contractions don't make the spinal tricky to do?

mind you plenty of ladies have cs's when established labours have probs

bekkaboo · 08/04/2009 20:33

Hi yes you'll still get a CS but under emergency, they told me to call as soon as start labour and will be operated on within the hour. Do not worry!!

FiKelly · 08/04/2009 20:33

flippin sainsbury's have a buy one get one free on the mini ones at the mo.. lethal to my cravings!

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 20:46

cote I'm happy to hear you've made a decision you're happy with regarding the birth. Don't worry if you were to go into labour before you date. Let the hospital know as soon as you think you're in labour and they'll do the c/s as soon as you go in. It'll be a semi-emergency one, i.e. done straightaway, but without the panicky rushing . Unless you progress extremely quickly there should be plenty of time to do it. I've been involved in quite a few of those type of c/s's and it's generally quite relaxed.

flippineck Good that you've mentioned moxibustion and reflexology. I've read some research on them and especially with moxibustion the successrate was quite amazing. I think to get your lo a bit more anterior, best thing to do is sit in more leaning forward positions, the worst position is slumping back on the sofa. A good one would be leaning forward on a birthing ball or just sitting on your hands and knees (bum in the air not necessary

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 20:47

^your* date, not you date! It's a bit too late to start dating now, cote!

Belgianchocolates · 08/04/2009 20:48

right, I'm getting my italics and bold mixed here. I meant to make it a your, not your and definitely not ^your*

flippineck · 08/04/2009 20:59

So Belgian - slouching in the armchair with a laptop isn't necessarily the best thing to do? Hmm, need to work out how to use ball and computer at same time.

Cote - glad you've come to a decision, I hope that you'll be able to enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy without the stress of a decision or worry of the unknown hanging over you, iyswim.

When's all this nesting stuff going to hit me? My house is a tip...

pulapula · 08/04/2009 21:05

I forgot to let you know earlier, but DH got home at 7.30 and his boss had just called him to say he got the job. Yay. It was a bit of an anti-climax as he's already doing the job on temporary promotion, but its good because its permanent, and therefore more secure and more money ahead, yippee! Still hush hush for now...
