Ladies, it seems that we do not know when to stop!
Here is another thread. Let?s hope it?s just not the tread that moves that fast - let the weeks fly!
I jsut have to work out how to link the old one now!

OP posts:

pedalmonster I think longer, definitely longer in the oven Congrats on the scan. Very exciting.

scarlotti I too have a ltd co. and started a website under it. Technically I could freelance too through the co, although I think that would be equally difficult to get into, hence the hunt for a 'normal' job. Good to know about paying SMP but not sure if ours is earning enough for that!

Aargh, bacon under grill, eek, got to dash!

Hi all just added my due date, went for my 12 week scan today and I am infact 9w4d with an actual baby eek, was so prepared for the worst for some reason. Sadly they also found an ovarian cyst which is nice, if it's not one thing it's another.

Hope everyone is well and so sorry for those who have had bad news.

raggie · 07/04/2009 16:44

Hello everyone

Glad to hear all of your news!

Thinking of everyone who is feeling anxious at the mo and rejoicing with all of you who are bubbling along nicely.

My GP appt has been postponed to Thursday - she was off sick! - so unfortunately no news to report. Everything seems to be progressing so slowly with me - how have so many of you had scans already?!

I also just have a bit of nausea now and again, usually half and hour or so after eating. So symptoms not very present - should be happy shouldn't I? I do have very sore boobies however, so the hormones are definitely still pumping!

scarlotti · 07/04/2009 16:46

pedalmonster and Blackletterday congrats on your succesful scans!

brightonbaby if you are a director/employee of your ltd co. then technically it can pay you smp. Like you said though, it has to have the money in there to pay you however you can claim it all back from the govt. plus a 4.5% admin fee. You will have to be paid PAYE for the weeks that pedalmonster said (17 - 25?) as it's the 90% of that pay that makes the smp calculation.

It's all quite confusing for my pg brain!

lynniep · 07/04/2009 16:53

hello hello! I'm 255 posts down the line but I'd like to join the thread I'm around 8wks pg with my second (not seen mw yet but going by online calcs due date is 11 Nov) DS is 25 months and Im absolutley cream crackered! Fortunately for me I get a break every afternoon as he goes to nursery and I work from home.

brightonbaby · 07/04/2009 16:57

Welcome lynniep

scarlotti thanks for your post. You've given me a lot to think about. I am technically an employee but it's my OH who is Director. I wonder if he could pay me through PAYE and claim some of it back? I hope that doesn't sound like a scam. I think I might go and talk to the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

Off to see friend's baby now, on the sunny seafront in Brighton

So pleased for you pedalmonster!! Beckybendylegs I have a joint partnership of a shop with my partner-so I will need MA?!!! Confused about all this and if so do I have to sort it out now or few more months!
Im seriously worried about not being able to work-from those of you with experience how long will I NEED off?!! Obviously I want to be off forever now and just concentrate on being a mum (hopefully)!! But DP is a very strict, workaholic and I dont think i'll be allowed much time off! but if I know how much I NEED off then atleast I can pre-warn him! He wants me to bring baby to work....think there will be fireworks because I really want to take baby to lovely places (not that baby will appreciate to uch but its better than a dark shop!) OH PANIC its all hitting me!! So sorry to moan but i'd really appreciate advice!!
Everyone massively cross everything-iggypiggys appt is now!

ldeeanna · 07/04/2009 17:28

Been too scared to put myself on the list but hopefully its a bit safer to now, about 7+5!

Is this right. Do I also need to add myself? I'm a bit new to this b

ursigurke · 07/04/2009 17:32

Interesting questions about those laws concerning work. Yesterday my boss said, that we have to sit down and check them. We both don't have a clue about it. It's a young and small business so I am the first regular employee that was ever pregnant.
I honestly don't know how long I will be able to work as I hardly can sit down and relax.

ldeeanna · 07/04/2009 17:32

yeah just add it on the bottom!!

ursigurke · 07/04/2009 18:11

My sister just called me. Apparently they have chicken pox in my nephew's nursery so it is likely that he carries them and we are all supposed to meet at my parents house over the weekend. Any experience or knowledge? I know I should ask my GP but it is very likely that I will be too busy to think about it tomorrow when I could call him.
She offered to stay in Vienna but the whole point of going back home was to see my nephew and my niece, not necessarily the rest of my family... well at least I can talk to them on the phone and they don't change that much in between those family reunions.

Ninjacat · 07/04/2009 18:25

Here's a link to NHS Directs advice on chicken pox and pregnancy www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1109.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=137
Basically if you had them as a child you should be immune.

Joycey29 · 07/04/2009 18:49

Random maternity leave question - can I claim my maternity pay from my place of work if I move to another country during the time I am off? Just wondering???

PootleTheFlump · 07/04/2009 18:59

Hi All,

Can't believe how quickly this thread moves!! I have had an exciting few days, saw the midwife, who was lovely and got all my bits and bobs which made it seem really real! She is booking my next scan for 11 weeks so not long to wait!

Also am now the proud owner of a set of maternity bras, decided the sore boobs couldn't be ignored any longer! Knew they were bigger but was surprised to be measured at 3 cup sizes bigger!!!

Tiredness is still my main symptoms, with nausea cropping up now and then, mostly when people discuss cheese - uuurgh !!

Hope you're all good

Ninjacat · 07/04/2009 19:09

I don't have my midwife appointment until the 7th of May by which time I will be 11 weeks 6 days. This seems quite late to me? Just wondered when other people were seeing their midwifes?

scarlotti · 07/04/2009 19:14

brightonbaby if you are employed by the company when you fall pg and get paid during the qualifying weeks, then you are entitled to SMP from the company. As the company is small (pays less than £45k class 1 NIC per year) then the company can claim the SMP back from the govt. Your OH will need a good accountant to work it out - mine has been so helpful. Look on the govt websites about SMP and it will explain it all.

Ideeanna chances are you'll be ready to stop work by about 37 weeks tops, and you won't be ready to go back until baby is at least 4 months I'd say. Chances are by then baby 'should' be only waking once in the night at most (if you're lucky) so the ability to then focus on work is a possibility. You still won't want to then though, but if needs must...

iggypiggy · 07/04/2009 19:29

Hi all - last post from me here

Had the scan and found that baby no longer had heartbeat - so miscarriage is inevitable. I was expecting it, but is still a shock.

Anway good luck to all of you and hope you all have lovely stress free pregnancies xx

BeckyBendyLegs · 07/04/2009 19:31

ninjatcat I haven't heard from my midwife yet never mind got a date for an appointment. Scan? What's one of those then? I've been to the GP and she said the midwife would be in touch but nothing yet... I haven't had any babies in this county before so not sure what's normal but in Oxfordshire where I've had babies I at least got a scan date quite early on! Perhaps everywhere is different.

Cheese! Yum! Cheese! Yum! Sorry Pootletheflump but cheese is the only thing that stops me feeling sick!

pinkfizzle · 07/04/2009 19:35

What a super fast fabulous thread!

Well done Pedalmonster for not vomiting on your boss, let?s hope that your boss now behaves during your pregnancy.

Ninjacat - my first booking appointment is about the same as yours, so fingers crossed.

Hobnob - love the vivid ms descriptions! I too went through a 3 am breakfast stage.

Anyway in case any of us start to freak out about late scans I did a google about Spina bifida.
I'm no medic but my internet search found that ....
Spina bifida only occurs in approximately one in every 2000 births, so the risk, remains very low.
I am sure that statistics are no consolation to the one in every 2000 but 1999/2000 means we should be ok.
Furthermore taking your folic acid tablets are likely to further reduce risk, and I am sure that all of us are remembering to take our folic acid!

Joycey / Brighton Baby and to all those who are wanting and getting the good employment tips on this thread, one other tip to follow on from Scarlotti, anyone can call Acas on 08457 47 47 47, they have a free confidential advice line.

Take care everyone!

cupofteaplease · 07/04/2009 19:35

iggypiggy- I'm so, so sorry. I hope you are coping ok with the news. Thinking of you and your dh- what a terrible shame. I hope the hospital have offered you suitable advice and support on where to go from here. Best wishes for the future x

ursigurke · 07/04/2009 19:37

ninjacat - thanks for the link, have been browsing myself as well. Apparently just the fact that I had chickenpox as a kid doesn't necessarily mean that I am completely immune. But my sister has just talked to a doctor friend who said you can only get them once. Difficult.
Anyway, I'll have my midwife appointment at 11weeks and 6 days too. Basically because they kept loosing the referral and just after a complaint letter my GP dealt with it himself. (feel free to read the whole November thread to get the picture of my "ordeal" (to quote my GP) They won't book a scan date before that but as I am having my private scan on friday (10+6) I do not really care about it anymore.

pinkfizzle · 07/04/2009 19:39

Iggy Piggy I am so very sorry to hear your tragic news.

My thoughts are with you and yours.

XO
