By the way - I know that's funny, so feel free to laugh. It wasn't funny at the time (it was REALLY painful!) but even through the tears I was thinking that at least it'd be something to tell you all

SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:13

Well I'm meant to be having a baby over the Easter weekend anyway, but I'm clearly not going to be. My mum asked me what kind of egg I wanted & I only pitifully replied 'BIG! ' because I'm going to need some sort of comfort. My my dates, this time next week I'll be overdue. I just don't know how big I can possibly get before my tummy explodes! It's getting really quite shocking...

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:16

Springy ((hugs)) xx

Meh, it's nearly over. Logic says that it must be nearly over! [optimistic]

surprisenumber3 · 02/04/2009 13:21

did your scan dates put quite a lot of you back from your own dates then? Mine did, and have done all three times but I'm sure mine were right!

DS1 - born 34 weeks, before he was born was told wouldn't cry, would be in hospital for 6 weeks etc. In reality he cried really loud when born and was ready to come home in 5 days.

DS2 - told due 2nd Jan, by my dates was 27th Dec. He was born 1st Jan - had meconium in waters, paediatrician came to examine him/placenta examined afterwards etc, was because he was overdue!

So, this time I am going by my own dates (although nuchal scan agreed with them), NHS dating scan put me at 24th April.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:21

oh there's room to get bigger, or so it would seem .......dh keep saying that i 'm getting bigger every day...........this baby is going to come out fully grown at this rate!!!

SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:26

Well my periods were irregular before, because my hormones were all over the place. I was on the pill (because of that, more than for contraception - although I thought that that was part of it ) but even taking my longest cycle of the last couple of years my dates put me 3 days ahead of the NHS dating scan. That's what I'm counting as 'my dates' so as to not be overly impatient. Using my more 'average' cycle length, I think I'm due about now. Tomorrow, I think.

Of course I'm trying to focus on the NHS date because it's the latest & I'm trying not to go insane. But there's so much uncertainty & I've been in latent labour non-stop for the last 6 weeks that the sanity is slowly creeping out...

It must've been such a relief for you with DS1, though - to go from 6 weeks to 5 days is such a massive leap. Would've been nice if they could've got it right in the first place, though!

SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:27

Nutty, I keep making bitter comments about how I'm going to still be pregnant when I die of old age & it's going to be up to the undertaker to cut out the middle-aged man still living in my tummy

Juwesm · 02/04/2009 13:27

It makes me wonder, if the majority of babies are born after their 'due' date (I think that's right, am sure have been told 70% or similar are 'late' - does anyone know???), why they don't adjust their technique/ algorithm/ whatever for dating? Or why they don't average out you scan date and your 'dates date', if you are fairly confident about your dates.

Am not sure that any of that makes sense. Am clearly hypoglycaemic. Best get cake quick.

SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:31

Ju, it makes sense. I've wondered that - why don't they just add another week on for the sake of our mental well-being? Or as you say, take an average if you really are sure of your dates.

& I'm sure of my dates in so far as I know when my last period was - I just don't know when I ovulated. But I think that, looking back, I was having symptoms a week or so earlier than I 'should' have been. I'm fairly sure that I had a really bad hormonal migraine before implantation should've occurred, according to the NHS...

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:32

Springy LOL it soooooo feels like that!!

OP posts:
Juwesm · 02/04/2009 13:36

Ah well, best to let them have their dates, and just keep our real dates in our heads and aim for them!

My only concern then is that, for example, if I'm not 40 weeks until next Sat (rather than yesterday, officially), then I may end up getting shoved down the induction route earlier than is actually necessary, as by their dates I'll be 10 days overdue by then. I'm all prepared to have to get a bit stroppy about not being induced at '42 weeks' as long as LO is still fine in there.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:36

sadly my dates match exactly....BOOO!!

OP posts:
Swaliswan · 02/04/2009 13:36

I haven't caught up yet, but as for the date inaccuracy thing, I've heard that in France they have a more laid back approach and say that a typical pregnancy is 41 weeks, not 40.

AuldAlliance · 02/04/2009 13:36

Where the hell are all these babies???
My money's on Bleu.

MW said baby has moved round and is in perfect position, heartbeat excellent, all well with him.

As for me, I have a few staphylococcus aureus cells in my fanjo . Not really what we want prior to birth. Have some pessaries for a week, though am going to google them and see WTF I've been prescribed this time. And MW says that I need to see an osteopath as she finds that my lower back is arched all the time and I don't round it enough (sorry, bad translation methinks), so am not going to do very well in labour. Chances of my getting an osteopath appt between for next week????
Surely it's normal to arch your back, to counter the huge belly in front?

She says DH and I should get going at it like rabbits, as my cervix is only slightly dilated. Hmm, can't really see him being up for that, what with staphylococcus cells and weird pessaries up there...Sorry, TMI, maybe?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:40

Auld - yay for the baby being all well! and ((hugs)) to you for the cells xx

OP posts:
SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:41

Auld, I thought that it was pretty standard for a pregnant woman to have an arched back - it's one of the classic things, & surely why women waddle around with their hands on their back?

Good idea to check on the prescription, albeit ridiculous that you have to! Sorry to hear that you're needing to be prescribed anything at all

& Ju, if I'm offered an induction at their 42 weeks, I'm going to take it - by that time I'm going to be half way to the middle-aged man scenario

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/04/2009 13:46

right heres a NEW THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thought i would get it done now as i feel a nap coming on shortly xxxx

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 02/04/2009 13:46

I think it's a bit standard, too for PG women to arch their backs.
Interpreting what she said and her concern ("I am not delighted", was her expression), I think it's because she went over some birth postures with me and often when she asked me to round my back, I arched it instead. Giving birth with an arched back is probably not ideal, I'd agree.
Will call an osteopath and see if I can get an appt (then they can give me their opinion on my knee, too), and will get DH to go over postures with me tonight and help me round my back more spontaneously.

The pessaries seem to be OK to take in pregnancy, as far as I can tell. Will do some more research later.

AuldAlliance · 02/04/2009 13:48

PS Springy, I sympathise with the sciatic problems on the loo. Have been finding myself in some contortionist positions on the loo in the middle of the night lately, wondering whether my back would seize up completely and DH would find me looking undignified on the floor at dawn...

SpringySponge · 02/04/2009 13:52

'I am not delighted' - how French

I'm not sure I can properly round my back these days. I'd not even thought about it...

& haha, yes - I was getting quite concerned that I was going to have to call for help because I'd got myself stuck. As it was I nearly got my arm jammed down the back of the radiator where I was leaning on top of it
