Erm, Ladies, as funny as this all is, I am genuinely a bit worried about what happens if I have another pre-term baby.

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:09

I am happy to share.... as long as mine is not too much longer!!!

Swali, I think they will just keep you in for observation a bit longer than usual as officially the baby is pre-term, they will probably give you some steroid injections but as long as LO doesn't have any complications is a good weight, eating and pooing they shouldn't keep you in too long! I obviously don't know this from any experience but from my vast relationship with discovery Home and Health that seems to be what happens!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 31/03/2009 21:09

Swali - isn't it supposed to be alot safer when you get past 36 weeks due to the lung development?? i'm sure it would be ok xx i'm no expert mind you ((hugs))

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:12

Swali how early was your 1st again?

You are only 4 days off of full term so they might try and delay it a bit if they can but honestly I think you will be absolutely fine as your LO is almost fully cooked xx It's natural to be worried and if you get any more symptoms, maybe call your MW and see what she says.

Swaliswan · 31/03/2009 21:12

I didn't get steroids with DD (34+6) and when I had her the cut off for automatic admission to the neonatal unit was 35 weeks so I'm hoping that we will avoid that again. I'm not sure exactly what will happen though and it is freaking me out a little.

tristaleejac · 31/03/2009 21:13

swali - my MW was happy that if I went into labour at 36 and a half weeks I could still have chilled out water birth at MLU, so I'd imagine it'll be ok.
My friend also had a baby at 36 weeks a couple of months ago and he was a healthy 6.5lbs

PuzzleRocks · 31/03/2009 21:13

My midwife also said that the overwhelming majority of babies are fine from 36 weeks.

tristaleejac · 31/03/2009 21:14

she was only in hosp overnight too as both were fine

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:15

I've just done a quick google and apparently the chances of complications post 36 weeks are very very very minimal - hope that makes you feel a bit better.

Why not give your MIL a quick buzz and see what she thinks - as she will know 100%!!!

bronze · 31/03/2009 21:16

I would think the baby would be fine. You could be over 4 days out datewise anyway . Afterall a week is an invention by humans to be organised. Your body doesnt actually think in weeks

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:17

Swali, you could still have a few days yet so try not to stress about it and keep yourself and LO as relaxed as possible. Really really think you will be OK as will your LO - I have not read one negative thing so far about babies born after 36 weeks and I am on page 4 of my google search!!!

Swaliswan · 31/03/2009 21:18

It's not that I think there will be complications but more the worry about how the hospital will treat me and what options I have eg waterbirth is probably not allowed as I'm not 37 weeks yet.

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:18

Right now I really have to wee....

Swaliswan · 31/03/2009 21:19

No point asking MIL as she works for a different trust.

Swaliswan · 31/03/2009 21:20

Have you still not gone yet, BB?

BabyBolat · 31/03/2009 21:20

Sure they will be fine with you as long as you all the babies monitoring is ok - and they seemed to be OK with tristal! fingers crossed xxx

Swaliswan · 31/03/2009 21:22

I was hoping to avoid CFM and be allowed to stay upright a bit more this time. It feels a bit like groundhog day.

tristaleejac · 31/03/2009 21:22

could you give hosp a quick ring and say you're just wondering what procedure is for 36 weeks, just so you can prepare yourself mentally? They surely would have no problem giving you a quick summary of their policies, whether they are more relaxed or whatever

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 31/03/2009 21:23

Swaliswan - could you not give the hosp a ring and find out their take on it, again as others have said you could be a little while yet and might even get to your full term xx

has anyone had any contact from their hv
mine rang today and said they're supposed to do an antenatal check now. I like my HV though and she said she would pop round this week and if I wasn't there she would post the red book through the box instead, I guess shes not too bothered as she already know me. apparently theyre supposed to give us the red books before now so we take them when we go in ready for the hearing test etc

I probably shouldn't. I ate a whole pack of Maryland choc chip and nut earlier.
