Even if it doesn't seem like it most of the time

blue76, I'm very glad somebody is ranting along with me! Your GP does sound horrendous.

My brother knew quite a lot of medical students in his youth, one of them was practicing on him something when he said "ouch!" She said, "sorry I forgot you're a person, not a patient." Hope she goes into reasearch...

audreyraines · 03/04/2009 14:30

i could also rant about the trainee midwife taking blood experience - arrrgh, she is never going near me with a needle again!! ds was so worried because i was yelling at her completely in pain, and she refused to withdraw the needle until she'd filled her container!
maybe they just won't bother me until september [hopeful emoticon]

erhianj · 03/04/2009 14:34

blue76 do you have psychic abilities?! Would love to know what everyone's names mean, nosy I know , mine is very unimaginative - its just me! audrey I'm guessing your a fan of 24?!

audreyraines · 03/04/2009 14:42

yeah, bit addicted to jack!

audreyraines · 03/04/2009 14:47

i've no idea what your name means erhianj!?

erhianj · 03/04/2009 14:54

Lol! best bit is where he says 'the following takes place between...' strangely pleasing to the ear!!!

mine is just the initial of first name, middle name and initial of surname - very dull!

twinklegreen · 03/04/2009 15:05

Hi all
Don't have any true midwife horror stories, btu definately agree that they don't have the time of day for you until you're in at least your 3rd trimester, even then they don't seem particularly interested.

Have had two different midwives my two previous children and they both couldn't care less. The one I had for my first child didn't even bother telling me I was Rhesus -ve, the first I heard about it was when I'd given birth and they were talking about my dd possibly needing a blood transfusion!!

On a positive note have a new midwife this time too and I was bowled over at my booking appointment when she actually appeared to be interested in me and my past experiences! couldn't believe it, wish I'd had her all along.

peachy 14 weeks is definately not too early to feel movement for subsequent pregnancies, especially if the age gap between children is quite small. I didn't feel my first until 20 wks+ my second I felt at 12wks and my third (this one) felt at 13wks, it's doing somersaults as I type, (I'm 15wks btw)

erhianj · 03/04/2009 15:14

to Twinklegreen's positive MW experience! nice to know they are out there..

ahhh to somersaults...so cute, cant wait!

Thusnelda · 03/04/2009 15:30

Thusnelda is the name my mother occasionally called me jokingly when I was little. I thought it was hilarious and was convinced she had made it up - until I moved to Berlin and found there was a Thusnelda Avenue or something! It's an old Germanic name and possibly some sort of heroine of yonder.

erhianj · 03/04/2009 15:35

Heroine sounds good! (bit better than Avenue!)

BabyLady · 03/04/2009 16:08

Boo to all the poor care givers out there.

So far my experiences have been nice - but then as I am paying my doctor a fortune so they should be

Did go and see my GP at 18 weeks to ask about cramps in my legs. After he got over the panic of me telling him I was 18 weeks pregnant and him realising he hadn't seen me yet (explained I was going private). He was super nice and even checked on the baby for me (pelvic exam and heartbeat).

Did have a really bad experience with a previous doctor saying inappopriate things to me when I was on the pill. When I asked for another prescription she asked whether I was married and then suggested I should start having children...talk about being forward!

My placenta is anterior but I think I am starting to feel some movement (am 19 + 2) but as first timer I am still not sure. Finally starting to get a preggie belly. About time.

FairySparkles · 03/04/2009 16:36

Blue - what a prick!! I'm a support worker in an autistic school and just like you - no matter how shitty my day, I'm nice as pie to even the ones that smack me in the face!! Why get a job with the general public if you can't stand being around them and lack all normal levels of social skill??? Work from home and do web design or something equally as reclusive!! (nothing against web designing mind you!! )

Loving the festive smileys

FairySparkles · 03/04/2009 16:59

Always miss the last page!!!

erhianj - I'm just as nosy - always wondering about peoples names!! I just love fairies, fairysparkles has been my name for ages!

blue - just re-read my previous post - just to confirm "what a prick" was about your Dr - not you!!!!!

blue76 · 03/04/2009 17:52

LOL fairysparkles - I knew what you meant! Totally agree with you.

Me? Psychic? Maybe a little psychotic Audrey I remember way back you said something about Australia. I still have the maternity clothes if you're interested? I've also got some size 8-10 summery tops which aren't maternity but they're smock tops. My bust is just too big for em! I could sell all this on ebay, but I've been given loads of stuff and feel cheeky selling it on.

My name is the football team DP and I support and my year of birth.

I don't mind people knowing my real name (I'm on myspace and facebook for all to see) - it's Madeleine.

blue76 · 03/04/2009 18:01

Just had a random memory - I had a little old mw deliver DD2. When I first met her I thought she was a doddery nurse just there to provide me with pain relief. Oh the panic when another mw said, 'no dear, she will be delivering your baby'. She was such a cutie. When I was in full-blown labour and saying (I didn't want to shout as she was so sweet and delicate...and old) she told me to push. I said 'I can't - you told me I'm only 5cm dilated!' She said 'listen love, if you think you need to push that baby out, then push it out'. Bless her. BUT to spoil the whole wonderful experience, the young mw's that came in afterwards spoke to her like shit. Well now she lectures in universities. Wish there were more like her

bigbang · 03/04/2009 18:05

Did anyone else just read 'heroin sounds good' from erhianj? Lol I was skim reading and thought wtf? I thought you must be resorting to desperate measures to ease the HG!

I haven't posted for a while sorry, I have missed lots I'm sure. Just a quick one to say hello and I hope everyone is well. I have my next mw appointment next week and will hear the hb, very excited. Sorry to hear some people have had crap mw experiences. This is the line I work I will be heading into when my babies are a little older, makes me that some of them seem to hate pregnant women. I hope I never end up like this.

I got my name as mn kept saying the ones I tried were taken, spotted the Simon Singh book 'Big Bang' on the bookshelf and thought that will do. How boring!

ladylush · 03/04/2009 18:16

Some shocking gp stories as well
As I said, my experience with mws in this pg has been quite good but the worst mw care I ever had was when I had ds and was in the post natal ward. I'd had an epidural which hadn't worn off so I asked if a mw could help me to the toilet as I couldn't fully weight bear ( couldn't feel my legs). She tutted and sighed, moaning about how they shouldn't have removed my catheter so early...that she had to mind her back
They left a cannula in my hand for hours (kept asking them to remove it - eventually I took it out myself). My baby cried all night and they didn't once come over to see if all was ok.

erhianj · 03/04/2009 18:17

LOL!!! Heroin! HG is bad, but maybe not that bad!! DH is asking me 'who's on heroin'?! only me dear..!

Snowfalls108 · 03/04/2009 19:02

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! Had a lovely day, and just made brownies for our bbq we're having on Sunday. Eeek - 15 people coming over.
Lots of posting today!
I've felt movements - lots of bubbles. Seems to happen when I want to sleep!
I'm now 16+5(or 6)!

BabyLady · 03/04/2009 19:03

LOL erhianj on the Heroin!

Just thought I felt the baby move again, happens when I am leaning forward so must get a bit squashed! Poor thing.

Neddie · 04/04/2009 09:07

PAH in Southampton is a fab hospital to have your baby in chutestoonarrow(I have had 2 there already) It's all modern and has all the stuff you will need if you have little ones that decide to get stuck like mine did. i am having my EC there for the twins ( as early as is safe to extract them)but the care in Salisbury has been good too so far. I can't feel movement yet 16 + 3 but there seems to be little room for acrobatics in my stretched tum I am as big as I was for 6 months pregnant with one baby. I will need a wheelbarrow for it soon. Neddie= horsebreeder= 5 foals due this year and bad timing!

LizLemon · 04/04/2009 09:25

Actually had a decent night's sleep. Brilliant.

My name is the character in 30 Rock, which my friend told me to watch because he said she reminded him of me. She's always stuffing her face...

ladylush · 04/04/2009 10:58

I slept well last night too. Bliss Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

blue76 · 05/04/2009 09:05

When I became pg with DD2, DD1 was 16 months old. I seemed to grow very large very quickly up until 5 months. Then things slowed down and in the end I was actually smaller at 9 months than I was with DD1 - maybe because I was more active, running around after DD1.

That was all so long ago (10 yrs) that I feel like a first-time mum again!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 05/04/2009 09:32

Morning all. Had a fab time last night at B-I-Ls wedding. Lovely smock top covered expanding tum a treat. Lots of knitting offers from DHs family but to avoid hideous items from GPs they're knitting me crib and cot blankets!

MWs at my birth centre are lovely but as it's a diff Trust to where I live it's a bit confusing. I don't get a named MW as they won't do my post-natal so will have to meet local MW sometime too. Only prob is that they don't always explain enough for a first-timer. Trying to speak up and ask if I don't understand.

PCH is my eBay name. DH told me to choose 3 random words. I like purple, am slightly crazy and would like to ride a horse. Real name is Debbie!
