Even if it doesn't seem like it most of the time

ladylush · 06/05/2009 21:48

Mine is most active in the evening but I'm not sure if I just notice it more then.

daffodilli · 06/05/2009 21:52

Thankyou! sort of assumed that once you felt them kicking that would be it for the rest of the pregnancy ! Saying that, while I started this he's started kicking quite hard! He's still feeling really low and the kicks are a little 'ouch'! Loving it though !

ladylush · 06/05/2009 22:01

yes it is a lovely feeling

bigbang · 06/05/2009 22:13

Its irritating isn't it littlecheese. Dp and I are pretty much the opposite of stereotypical young parents in every respect and have had very little judging. The few moments I have had however have left me feeling shite and knocked my confidence. What can you do though, some people are desperate to find fault in others!

I bought mostly 0-3 for ds and he was a diddy 7lb 6. His first sleepsuit was newborn and swallowed him so I'm going for newborn sizes for most things. He was born in July and he mostly wore vests, all in one rompers and baby grows. I did put him in little t shirts and things I had bought but tbh it was pointless and I often changed him back into rompers. He suffered (still does ) from acid reflux and vomited on everything all the time. He would go through six or seven full changes a day at first. After a while he ended up dressed in a muslin or towel as the sickness just got too much! This little one will be living in baby grows for the first 6 months, with some pretty cardis and hats

ladylush · 06/05/2009 22:17

Re sizing - it's not just the weight but the length. Ds was very long as well.

LizLemon · 07/05/2009 07:13

mw said yesterday that it's still relatively small so movements are a bit hit and miss. I've only had one definite kick, but it was lovely. Old wives point to a girl (heartbeat over 140 and like horses) so we'll see in two weeks.

I only have one newborn sleepsuit in my possession and thanks to bigbang a pair of cords coming from welovefrugi. (DH loves cords - they'll make him laugh.) I think once I've had the next scan I'll go nuts shopping. We've also got to clear out the spare room - I thought we'd made a good start but I went in there and it's still full of crap...

Thanks for the cat advice minshu!

Neddie · 07/05/2009 08:14

bigbang it happens the other way round too- I get some really odd stares as I have let my hair go grey (white) for a bit till I feel safe to dye it. Everyone assumes that I have had to have fertility treatment as they are twins- no they happened first go at trying- I feel like hanging a sign round my neck.
Doesn't help when the MWs tell you it will be so much more difficult at YOUR AGE.
I am not buying any clothes or stuff till they are born in case they are really small and premature.

Thusnelda · 07/05/2009 08:21

Yes the Spare Room Situation. Same here. I used to let it and when my boyfriend moved in we swapped a lot of things around - that we are now swapping back again. And I've got far too much junk many treasured mementos etc and very little inclination at the moment to sort it all out. But my mother is on her way, so hopefully I'll make some progress with her help!

I have only bought (three) things in 0-3 months so far and hadn't even realized there was a smaller size - until yesterday, looking at the Frugi site. I think I'll wait and see what size hand me downs I'm getting before I buy anything 'newborn'. I have no idea of course what size my baby might be. I think I was pretty average myself but looking at my boyfriend I think he must have been a fairly chunky kid from birth.
I don't consider September Summer by the way. I think it will be quite chilly long before the 0-3 months things are too small. But I don't think I'm going to buy coats or anything like that before it's here.

I can feel movements several times a day but they are still very faint and sometimes I think I'm imagining it. I think it also depends on which way it is facing as well as on sleeping a lot of course.

audreyraines · 07/05/2009 13:25

Re sizing for clothes, I would buy a bunch of newborn stuff that is easily exchangable (eg. mothercare of something) and don't open it until your bubs is born. If you need to send someone down to exchange it then you can. buy everything else in 0-3 size.

ds was 3.34kg (7.5lb), so 0-3 was swimmingly huge too - had to go newborn size for a bit.

daffodili - massage was excellent, but i'm afraid i'd like one every week or more!

hulihoops · 07/05/2009 16:38

I can't keep up with you guys!
But thought I'd update anyway as I know we all like to hear these things. I had a good scan, but no idea of whether it's a boy or a girl! Very cute, stretching and yawning, but no bloomin' way could we see anything!
I saw earlier about real nappies etc. so thought I'd attach myself to that camp; also "older mother"; erm, oh yes, VBAC maybe... v. large baby 5 years ago, late, induced etc no way was he coming out the usual way!
As for clothes, I forced him into the one little thing I really wanted him to wear, for about 1 day, when he was still doing that cute curled up thing, then I had to go for 3-6 month babygros... So I'd definitely recommend buying late (so you may have a vague idea of the size) and I like the idea of buying returnable stuff, they must expect it surely!

I'm already looking big - I'm 21 weeks - and I generally get an ooh, you're big when I say the due date I hope that I can lose some weight while the baby still grows, so keping myself this size! Think that would mean less crisps, chocolate, sweets, though, wouldn't it?
lovely to read about everybody, enjoy the weather!

ladylush · 07/05/2009 18:24

Great news on your scan hulihoops Don't worry too much about your weight. It's not the time to diet and you will put on weight whatever you eat - maybe just try to eat sensibly.

Blue - how are you feeling now? Hope iron is helping.

peachygirl · 07/05/2009 21:04

Ok time for my fourpenneth on the clothing. dd was much smaller than we thought and most of our newborn stuff swamped her. I had to send Dh to buy stuff when we were in hospital. We bought some tiny baby stuff for her.
She mainly wore vests and babygros but as she got bigger wore soft tops and trouser combos (a bit mix and match) and I found these to be very practical she still wears this sort of stuff for nursery.

If you buy stuff new I was advised to wash some of it as apparently shops put chemicals on baby clothes and this is why they look so pristine in the shops. This info may be an urban myth but I got it from mumsnet.

I'm 19 weeks this week and have finally succumbed to my maternity trousers. Baby is hopping about mainly at quiet points of the day and around lunchtime.
I'm doing quite alot of african drumming at work this term and I can't wait until baby responds to this.

AprilMeadow · 07/05/2009 21:41

Hi ladies, just popping in whilst getting out of the florida heat. I generally love it here, but it is no fun at 21wks and esp in 90degree heat. I feel myself waddling and have lovely puffing fingers

Congratulations on the scans that have happened in the last week.

Clothes.... For my ds we bought mainly 0-3mths and 2 packs of newborn. He was 7lbs 15.5 so lasted a small while in the newborn stuff. With dd i did the same except i bought a few more newborn bits as i figured she would be smaller. She arrived almost 4wks early so caught us off guard. She weighed in at 5lbs 10.5oz. Dh had to rush off to mothercare and get some upto 5lbs clothes and even they were a bit too big! Have bought a few bits whilst out here (as they were just too cute) and will get a bigger selection when home. I think about mid August i will go and buy some 'tiny baby' clothes that are the 5-7lb range just in case. Then at least i have 28 days to take them back. If i go over then i can exchange them before dd2 arrives Watch me go 2wks over and birth a whopper as pay back for being prepared.

Definitely having days where baby is more active and days where she barely moves, although i guess i am on the move an awful lot more than usual. She seems to be more active first thing in the morning and just as i am dropping off to sleep

AprilMeadow · 07/05/2009 21:42

*puffy not puffing

daffodilli · 07/05/2009 21:42

for the scan Hulihoops! bubs dont want to play sometimes! Guess they get shy like everyone else!

Mum to be massage available on the NHS...will we ever see the day?! Might start a petition..

Great advice re sizing, was very tempted by some really cute babygros today, but didn't buy.I have a feeling that bubs may be quite long, only going by the fact that both me and DH were 9.10 and are both tall! Not very scientific reasoning though

We're going to need a new thread soon! Any title suggestions? My rather cheesy offering is 'Due in September 2009 - we're all beautifully bumpilicious' just as a reminder that we are all fab, even though we dont always feel it!

daffodilli · 07/05/2009 21:46

Cross posted April! hope you're having a lovely time over there, 90degrees heat aside! If it makes you feel better, it blardy freezing in S.Wales at the moment and is also very grey and rainy! Bring some of that heat and sun back with you please!

pooka · 07/05/2009 21:53

I've also been dipping in and out of mn a bit.

All well though (23 weeks tomorrow) - and am so relieved that others have got itchy nipples!! Honestly - was about to ring midwife to check whether is normal, because didn't get this with either previous pregnancy and it is unbearable. Will try vaseline to soothe. The temptation to whip them about and scratch is massive - but so far have managed to avoid doing it in public.

Huge kicks now, and crazy evening activity. Feels a bit like a washing machine cycle in my pelvis.

Very hormonal. Have developed lots of spots, which I remember from before. Blooming? I don't think so! Took ds to the dr because he is constipated on and off. He'd fallen off the slide the day before, about 5 feet onto his back/back of head. Got medical advice to monitor through the night, so was tired when we got to the doctors. He had the most spectacular tantrum ever, so much so that I was pretty much holding the door of the consuting room shut while he lost it. And ended up bursting into tears.Cue the doctor prescribing exactly what I wanted and asking whether I'd seen the health visitor recently (tap tap tapping into the computer all the while). So am now paranoid that am marked as an incompetent and overemotional mother on the edge! But the doctor did mention pregnancy hormones and sympathised with tiredness, so maybe not.

Am looking at baby clothes, though have loads of boy and unisex stuff (fewer girl things because was nearly 6 years ago that dd was newborn). But so few sites seem to have truly unisex clothes, which is what I'm after, apart from places like nordic kids which are £££. Almost wish I knew so could start buying.

We have pretty much everything else, including a fab bedside crib. The cot was demolished by ds though, so will need one of those. Will prob aim for a cheap ikea jobby because no point as this is my last in buying something heirloom-y. I really want a very very good sling though. But such a variety out there now. Had a babybjorn when dd was tiny and it was horrible, am looking at possum pouches and baby bags/mei tais now. But not sure.....

Hope everyone else well xx

FairySparkles · 07/05/2009 22:19

hello girls - took forever to catch up as always, we're such busy little posters!!

Can't even remember what I was going to say now, I'm bloody knackered (damn pregnancy insomnia!) so I'm off to bed - got scan in the morning tho so I'm really excited! Have decided not to find out the sex but I don't have a lot of faith in dp's ability to keep his mouth shut and not cave in and end up asking the sonographer if she can see a winky or not!! I've said I don't mind finding out or have a surprise.... so watch this space!

Joined the spatone band wagon - tastes bloody awful tho- even in fruit juice! YUK

Re sizes I'd buy newborn, but different shops vary enormously: Asda for example is much bigger than tesco. Dd was 8lb 1 and pretty long but she fit newborn for ages (she actually turned out to be a tiny little person and at 15months some of her clothes are still only 3-6months, most are 6-9!!)

I'm 20 weeks now with second pg but not really feeling too much movement still - I can feel some things but nothing really definate!! Maybe I have a little too much extra flab padding !!

Right - off to get my well needed beauty sleep, nighty night all

Minshu · 07/05/2009 22:29

Wow - loads of good advice about sizing! Thank you. I'll not be buying much until August, but feel better prepared now (DP knows where mothercare and the closest 24 hr tesco are, at least ). I'd also heard about washing clothes before first use, peachygirl.

I'm beginning to feel movements, but do wonder if I'm imagining it sometimes. It's wonderful. Just a shame that it will probably be a few weeks before DP will be able to feel anything from the outside. Not regular or strong enough to detect a consistent pattern, but according to Miriam Stoppard, you may not get that until about 28 weeks.

blue76 · 08/05/2009 06:51

Ah thanks for asking, Ladylush. I'm feeling great now. Such a difference from last week! Got the school nurse to check my bp and she said it's ok. The iron tablets seemed to have worked wonders...I'm nowhere near as tired and my skin looks loads clearer. I really do recommend them to people who aren't already taking them.

Re movements...baby moves fequently throughout the day - causing me to 'oooh' and 'ahh' during lessons The kids I work with are busying themselves trying to guess the sex and choosing names for baby lol. Teachers are only just starting to realise I'm pg - despite the huge bump and the fuss the pupils have been making!

A friend who has just 2 weeks to go wasn't feeling any movement until approx 26 weeks. First baby.

20+5 today and 6 sleeps til scan

Neddie · 08/05/2009 07:58

I have calculated that it will be 16 weeks till my EC. I am counting down the days because it is like I am already near then end (size wise). What will happen to all the extra skin I will have stretched? Tummy tuck definately. Glad you are feeling better blue76 I may invest in some iron tablets although I am not feeling very tired at the moment just huge.

Thusnelda · 08/05/2009 08:28

Peachygirl, I would definitely wash new stuff, have a look at
this thread.

bigbang · 08/05/2009 10:17

I washed half the newborn and 0-3 things so there was stuff ready whatever size he was. Then I washed the rest when he was born and I knew he would wear it. You end up putting so much washing on in the early days an extra load of baby stuff is nothing!

I have to be honest and say I have given up washing new things for him now though!

LizLemon · 08/05/2009 11:57

hadn't thought about washing stuff, but will now (cords arrived from frugi and they are horribly cute). For the experienced among us: is it at all possible to manage without a tumble dryer if you have no garden or outside space to dry things (ie relying on radiators)? I mean I know that if we had to we would, but would it drive us mad?

Knackered and yet can't sleep well. Think I might join the spatone bandwagon just to see if it helps. Don't feel at all blooming at the moment - have volcanic heartburn that now kicks in at 10am.

Thusnelda · 08/05/2009 12:31

I have the heartburn in the evenings. I then drink sips of water and sometimes milk, then have to go to the loo of course at 1am.

I've ordered a breast-feeding T-shirt and a hat for £1 on Frugi, should arrive soon. I thought the shirt might work as maternity shirt as well, as it's longish. If I like them I will definitely order more, I think bigbang should get commission from them!
