Still waiting on the delivery...

mrsmcJ thanks for the info on GBS. I will definitely ask my OB about it at my next appointment which is 21st April, when I'll be 31 weeks.

bunnymother · 27/03/2009 10:45

Hmm, so if a crib doesn't get me any further than a moses basket (and frankly, DH and I aren't exactly tall, so could be a year ), may go down that path. Thanks for the advice!!

Am sipping my tea and enjoying the caffeine surge - much needed this morning!!

MrsMcJnr - I move a week today, so will be 31 weeks. The packing is taking ages and am cursing myself for having so many things, but couldn't get rid of them . Is a bit tough being this "far gone" and moving, but it will be fine. I chant that to myself . OK, good to hear I am not the only one not telling DH about most all of my purchases. Agree - they don't need to know! . Besides, am being as canny as can be.

Will look at ebay for the grobags - thanks for the tip Ermintrude (that post is back a page...)? Will also check out Neals Yard and health food shops. I think by 36 weeks I will be done w this pregnancy lark and have fingers crossed for an early arrival!

You ladies are a lifesaver!

Ermintrude - hope you have a great night out

Sorry to hear that some of you are not having a great nights sleep. I am sleeping ok at the moment but DS2 has woken me up the last 2 mornings at 3am as he has wanted to go to the toilet. A good sign that he may be ready to try and go to bed without a pull up at night.

Mrsmc - I know Mijas but not sure about Cala de Mijas. My parents are on the sea front. How is the weather there today?Wish I was there. It's like a second home to me as we have been going there for the last 21 years.
Sorry to hear about the Strep. My sister also has it. She was concerned at first but I suppose had to accept it and as you say, its better that they are aware of it so that you can be treated. My sister could be in labour as we speak delivering her 2nd lo She is 2 days overdue. I am so excited.
I am going to ask my OB about Strep on my next visit. I am also allergic to penicillin.

Enjoy shoe shopping Tee

Ineed - sorry to hear about FIL. Hope everything settles down soon for him.

I too found that DS2 slept much better in his own room. He would toss and turn and snuffle etc so much that none of us were getting any sleep. Once we moved him everyone was much happier. I was also bottle feeding him so in a way it was more convenient to feed him in his room and not wake DH. The feeding took the usual amount of time but the winding could take a while

Bunnymother - I bought my RL tea this morning from "The Health" Shop. Its the real Mccoy with stalks and buds on it and everything

June - sorry to hear about problems with your family visiting. Hope that you can all sort something out.

I am feeling quite good today. Sleep definately makes a difference and of course; not having a horrid cold.
Hoping to get a baby sitter for Sat night so dh and I can go to the movies. I can feel the time ticking by now and once lo comes along we won't be going anywhere together for a while.

Bunnymother - have fun packing! I know you must be thinking you are crazy being so busy so far along in your pregnancy but there is definately something about babies being due and moving house.
When I was expecting DS2 and got to about 25 weeks I started looking around at houses on the market. I eventually found 1 that I loved, we went for it and put our house on the market. I was busy cleaning the house for open viewings 2 times a week for 3 weeks. Mowing the lawn, washing the car, moving stuff in and out etc. Seems mad now but we did it and moved into our new home when DS2 was 9 weeks old. It was bliss.

morning all

mrsmcjnr sorry to hear about you having strep. I am also allergic to penicilin and it is a pain.

tee hope the package shows up soon and enjoy your shoe shopping. I just cleared my DH's credit card for the third time but might just go and pay off the cotbed today its the last bit of furniture I am needing.

ineed Sorry to here about your FIL after him doing so well to. My thoughts and prayers are with him for a quick recovery x

erm I hope you and DH have a good night out and that your food stays down

bunny I hope your move next week goes well, and mind to take it easy. As for grobags my niece loves hers, been in one since around 3 weeks old and she turns 2 this week. You should see her when she climbs out her cotbed at night time jumping around in this bag its quite funny

naat Sorry your still a bit low about your family visiting esp now if they might not make it over until Dec, but at least baby will be in a good routine by then (hopefully)

I dont know how you ladies manage with family so far away, I am very close to my mum, I feel guilty for complaining about family interferring so much but at least mine is only a 2 mins drive away dont know how much harder it would be if they were further away never mind in another country.

Sorry if I have missed anyone, a big HELLO to everyone!!

still short on time to get through all your posts!

mrsmcj sorry to hear about strep B but it is good that if its a risk its been deteted and you can get the treatment you need because as you say they don't test for it here, if anyone does decide to go down the private testing route and has strep B they won't let you have a home birth or in birthing centre (well not in my PCT anyway)this happened to a friend of mine and although she wasn't given any ab's for the strep they said she had to have hosp birth otherwise baby was at risk even though they don't test for it go figure

just to comment on sleeping stuff - dh and I quite tall so moses basket only lasted 6 wks, moved cot into our room for couple of weeks for ds1 but we all disturbed each other, I wasn't sleeping and we agreed more sleep for me meant better milk and a 'safer' environment for ds1 (although I didn't realise at time I had PND so I think it was best decision) our house is v small so I could hear ds straight away anyway and found it easier feeding and changing him in his room where all stuff was, swaddling really worked for us too, I reccomend it, we did it with a blanket but got one of those shaped ones this time fom as new to see if it makes the 2am reswaddle easier!

hello all, hopefully back later to tach up more x

tee hope the delivery arrived and you managed to go enjoy your shoe shopping!

bunny hope everything with the packing goes smoothly, I'd loooove to be able to move now! But well... as long as baby doesn't come before due date, I think I'll be fine moving 1st June Oh, and I'm with you on the fact that Juners are lifesavers!!!

choccie you had a good night's sleep. Energy levels change dramatically when that happens

laura how are you feeling? Hope the belt is helping.

insy that swaddling blanket looks heavenly! One more thing to the list of things to ebay! Oh well...

The weather is crazy over here today. It literally rains and stops every 10 min and then the sun comes out... 10 min later there's rain again hahaha.

Update: Private dr has now confirmed that the report means that I do have Strep B in my urine but low amounts. Even so, it should be treated with antibiotics now until I get a clear result as not to do so could lead to premature labour or kidney damage for me. I am now quite angry with my GP for not picking up on this and prescribing me antibiotics Dr also confirmed that this means I will have to have IV antibiotics in labour and it will be clindamycin on both occasions. I guess having that drug now in smaller oral doses lets me see how I get on with it as would be awful if I was allergic to that too and I didn?t know that until I got 900mgs!!

Ermintrude ? pleased to hear that DS is better and that you can still go on your date tonight I am sorry to hear that you are still being so sick though thanks for your kind words about the antibiotics, as you say the only discussion now centres around managing the situation, I am not prepared to take any risks with the baby?s health.

Bunnymother ? the other thing to bear in mind about Moses Baskets is that they become unsafe when the baby can roll. All the best for the move ? I keep thinking that when we get there we can get the baby?s room sorted out

Choccie ? would love to meet you if you are over here anytime we have a lovely day today bout 22c and sunny still DS managed to find the only wet puddle in the park and sit right in the middle of it how exciting about your sis ? hope you get news of the new addition soon hope you get to the cinema tomorrow.

Laura ? what a sensible lady clearing those cards

Insy ? you are right, it is much better to know and therefore decrease the risk of the baby getting GBS. I was reading on the GBSS site that they are getting better about water births and home births for people with Strep B. For the former, they make sure the cannula doesn?t get wet and for the latter they give an intramuscular injection of penicillin and send you on your way but that doesn?t happen everywhere. My DS hated being swaddled!

Poor you Tibsy, hope you feel better soon

MrsMc for your news... but well, at least now you have all the information you need and can now "plan" what to do and try to tackle this. at the other GP for not spotting anything!

Are you moving on the 9th then? or did you have to move the date because of the public holiday?

your DS went right into the ONLY puddle around. I'm sure now I think it's sweet, very soon I won't . Veeeery about the temperature!

tibsy hope everyone feels better soon.

Insy - that blanket looks fab. Thanks for the link.Tell you what though, she took quite a while wrapping it up. I would have to be a lot quicker than that! Must have been for demonstration purposes only

Mrsmc - that would be lovely.Don't know when I will next get out to Spain though. We are only taking a week in Kerry this Easter and then maybe wont go abroad until next year I miss it so much.

Tibsy - sorry that you are all sick - hope you can all take it easy this weekend!

MrsMcJnr - I would be angry re your Dr not noticing strep, too! Thanks for the tip re rolling baby & moses basket. I have to say, this packing caper is a bit tiring. How cute your little DS sounds! Now, I would be all excited about setting up new baby room, but real estate agent just phoned to tell me of a damp problem in the room. Probably something you don't have to worry about in Spain!

Ermintrude - tonight is date night here, too! Have fun!

Tee - shoes are my weakness, hope you got a gorgeous pair and enjoyed the outing!

Insy - I'm also concerned about whether we can sleep in the same room as our baby. I am a light sleeper, and think the sleep deprivation could also make me query the safety of baby w zombie mum. Am already worrying about what if I accidentally drop her and the like...

choccie - LOL at having to hurry up re the swadling! I am v re you spending a week in Ireland over Easter. VERY .

Better get back to it (who did buy all this stuff??), lovely Juners, but have terrific evenings!

Hi Ladies Glad to hear you are all well. My gtt went well although I was there for hours. Having arrived already starved at 8 30 am I was given my disgusting glucose drink which actually wasnt quite as disgusting as I remembered from last time and then had to wait two hours for my blood tests to be taken. they said I should hear by today if there was anything to be worried about and as I havent heard anything Im assuming all is ok. I then went for my scan and after numerous attempts and two sonographers as baby had her legs crossed it was decided baby bits looked like girl bits as nothing was dangling So looks like daughter number 6 for me and 3 for dp Evie Rose is on her way. We are very excited although we have had a few "never mind" comments I have to go back again at 34 weeks so will be checking again then too but am more than happy.
My adorable 2 year old daughter has finally turned into a demon and is being really hard work and very clingy with her daddy at the moment which is upsetting me. I also have a bit of a cold too feel like I have caught everything going this pregnancy. I have group B strep if there is anything anyone needs to know. They found out I had it when I was pregnant with my daughter who is soon to be 6 She was meant to be a home birth but a swab taken to determine if my waters had broken showed group b. My last pregnancy and this one therefore has not been allowed to be a home birth and although they wont routinely test me again I will be given antibiotics in labour. I too am allergic to penicillin and erythromycin so have one begining with a c and have a huge label on the front of my notes. I also have to stay in hospital for one or two days so baby can be monitered too.
I went to Mijas Costas with my 3 sisters last April we had a fantastic weekend although it rained alot. I loved it there and would love to go again we stayed in a villa just around the corner from a lovely little row of shops and restaurants. We had a lovely meal at a chinese there and I loved the Irish bar in the town itself.
Re moses baskets I usually have one upstairs and swinging crib downstairs but at least 5 of my 7 didnt settle in the moses basket for very long and we would end up using the pram downstairs and crib upstairs. Even the cribs only last for 6 months however and some people just put them straight into the cot. Anyway hope everyone else is well enjoy your evening out ermintrude sorry about the long post

Hey

I'm a fairly light sleeper but I was fine in same room as dd for about a year, however she did get quite noisy after that and I had to move! Hopefully we'll be okay for at least 6 months or until they sleep through, then I'm hoping wee one and dd can share. Stll I do worry about dh as he always struggles to get back to sleep if dd wakes us so not sure how he'll cope with baby waking!

So, question, ice skating or no? Going to take dd on Sunday and after speaking with my dad today dh says he doesn't think he should let me on the ice... You're all going to agree eh? Even though I am very good skater and have not fallen in years and even if I did would probably only be a bump? I'm going to have to sit it out just in case amn't I?

ARGH.

Sorry to hear about your strep B stuff MrsMcJnr! What a bugger, someone had my homebirth group was trying to decide how to deal with that. My cousin actually found out post labour that she had it and she was fine, and she has not tested this time either!

Hope everyone else is well, must run, dvd and nachos with dh calling!

Sorry Dreamy - would love to know how the ANs made you feel in labour and whether the hospital made your births more medicalised due to the Strep B, also were you able to move around freely and did the ANs affect your babies or breast feeding in any way? sorry, so many questions I feel a bit shell shocked by all this.

Evening Juners!

Dreamy glad to know the test came back ok. Congrats on the baby girl!!! Many of us are having girls!

Bunny have fun on your date!

LittleSarah sorry to be a party-pooper but I'd say "no" to skating... Not because you might do something silly, you can be a terrific skater but someone else might run into you and "tackle" you to the ground... I mean, there is no control on how others skate... Don't hate me, please!

Tee to hear about that. I have no advice, but I'm sure more Juners will come and help with wise words.

MrsMc don't feel guilty on wanting to know more, it's better to have all the info so as to be prepared. I'm sure Dreamy will come and tell you about her own experience and hopefully that'll help.

DH left work reaaaaaaaally late today (8.15pm) so he's on his way now after stopping by a nearby Sainsbury's to get some pizza and a pudding . We do our grocery shopping on Friday evenings but I'd have hated to drag him to Tesco after such a long day. So "date" in for me.

Have a lovely evening, Juners!

Hi all

I put the cot next to our bed, but she hated that - she looked lost in the middle of it. Then we put her in the bassinet part of the Bugaboo to see if she would like it - it was slightly better. Then I tried swaddling her, and that was a bit better again. Then when we discovered she had reflux (children's heartburn - they hate lying flat) we propped up one end of the bassinet with a few large books. That still wasn't enough for her to sleep comfortably....so.....then she came into bed with me, I lay flat with my arm around her and a pillow behind - she lay on my shoulder at 45oC and she slept.

She loved sleeping with me. She was much calmer & happier. I know it's not 'recommended' but it worked really well for us. You have to be very confident with your position I guess and is something you would resort to if your baby wasn't happy.

At 3 months she went back into the cot and next door - but next door was just 3 metres away (as we left the doors open) so was just like being in the same room. We didn't even need the baby monitor until we closed the door later.....that might be about the time a little 'nocturnal activity' started again!!!

Fainting spells not so bad this week. I have been much lazier this week. DD has been extremely trying, it's either that she is disturbed by thought of the baby ('I don't like the baby) or was still overexcited by her bday party, but was better today so here's hoping.

lauraloo - are you still fainting?

mrsmc - sorry to hear about the Strep B although it sounds like it's for the best that you know. It seems so common, how odd that they don't test here. I have a funny feeling they may test at my hospital but I'd better check.

tee - ouch piles. I don't have any experience sorry. Hope you find something that works.

littlesarah - am sure skating is a big 'no no' - too hard a fall and your central of gravity all wrong etc.
