lauraloo I agree with June and Daisy. I'd have rebelled long time ago , but that's just me. Anyway, if you feel like seeing things, besides the practicality of it, I think you have all the right, hon. Superstitions aside Talk to your DH, I'm sure he'll understand where you're coming from. Doing everything at the last minute is not good.

welsh I'm doing the same as Laura... a small wheeled bag for me, a small bag for baby and a small bag for DH. It's better to have it all than to be thinking of things you forgot or left out and then having your DH coming and going

bigcar God, you made me laugh! Feel free to comment on anything! There's no "noseyness" in the June thread

Insy glad your baby is kicking away! Anyway, it sounds like you took all the precautions needed, well done you!

Naat · 06/04/2009 15:08

xpost!

doris congrats on the good bargains!!

insywinsyspider · 06/04/2009 16:07

doris neither of mine are at pre school yet (ds1 2yrs - 3 in may and ds2 16mo) my mum has them today as I'm in work but I think I'll be off with ds1 tomorrow, they have to be off 48hrs after being sick, its tempting to send him tomorrow if he's ok as they would never know but if everyone does that (which I suspect some do!) then its no wonder they are always ill, plus I guess he'll need a cbeebies day... I hired my tens last 2 times which I'd recommend, it was this one great bargins btw, we'd planned to go to car boot too yesterday but left early, I need one of those plastic booster seats for ds2 and thinking about getting a playpen, might be more of an ebay job tho...

welsh I did something similar with hospital bags first time, dh carried in smaller labour bag with the 'essentials' (in was on wheels ) and I had other bags in ccar of more stuff in case I needed to stay in

just had email from the nursery to say one of the nursery nurses was in a car accident at weekend and now in intensive care ds's aren't going to understand but do you think it would be nice to make her a card? she such a lively bubbley girl would like to do something but obviously it is more from us than them... not sure if its a bit unnecessary, just hope she recovers

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 06/04/2009 16:14

Hello all! Full of cold and feeling crap and can't think straight enough to catch up on everyone's news .

I actually slept last night (thank goodness!). DH was up with DS and I got up to eat at 7 and then crawled back into bed for a couple of hours more. I feel so different, and if it weren't for this crappy cold, I'd feel amazing!

Just spent the day (in between sneezing and blowing my nose) washing all the baby clothes (newborn/0 - 3 months) that was up in the loft. My best friend has just written on my Facebook wall that she had 4 - 5 binliners of babystuff to come up at the end of April! She's coming up to sit with me with another dear friend when DH runs the London Marathon (I'll be over 35 weeks then and DS was born at 37 - I'm a bit frightened of going into labour on my own!) So it looks like I'll be doing loads more washing after the 26th April!

DH re-painted the nursery today. We still have to re-paint the cot and the tops of the furniture before we put the room back together (the handy things about having another boy is that you don't have to totally re-decorate!). I can't wait for it to all be done as I can then pack my bag and feel better about it all.

WRT getting everything set up in advance, I totally agree that it's worth doing it before hand (but then I'm not superstitious in the slightest). You are totally 'zombified' for the first couple of weeks and the easier you can make it for yourselves in those early days, the better.

I'm going to start cooking up batches of emergency food after DH goes back to work after Easter. We didn't get to do that last time as DS took us by surprise and I was bed-bound with SPD. Luckily, we had people bringing stuff to us, and we relied on take-away and ready meals. It's worth thinking about as it saves you the hassle in those early days.

Anyway, I feel the need to be horizontal again, so love to you all. xx

Sorry, x-post insy - I think a card sounds like a lovely idea. What horrible news, I hope she recovers soon x

Hi ladies. Just a quick hello.
Still all flying along on here eh.
Horrible rain here all day long.I am cooped up indoors but DS's are being so well behaved thank the lord.
Can't be bothered to cook dinner so looking forward to DH bringing M & S food home later

Didn't get a great nights sleep here either. baby is waking my up at 4 or 5am every day now and kicking for a good half an hour or so. I then struggle to fall back asleep. The kicks are getting really strong now.

Had a bit of a fright this morning when I took my shower. The kids were downstairs watching TV so it was a quick one but as soon as I got my shampoo on I felt really faint. Had to get out of the shower 4 times. Was so scared I would faint in the shower and the kids wouldn't know or be terrified themselves. Anyway, I feel ok now, just very hungry all the time.

Insy - the poor girl.A card sounds like a lovely idea.

Going to have to check what we are allowed to bring into our hospital (bag wise) as cannot remember but I know they like it kept to a minimum until after the birth.

Would definately get your nursery bits and pieces checked out Laura to ensure that they are all working ok and that you are happy with how they operate etc. I did my buggy the day it arrived just to be sure all was ok.Its covered in plastic in the loft now but am getting excited about bringing it down again

chocciedooby · 06/04/2009 16:21

So sorry to hear you are not well ineed. Hope you get some rest and feel better soon.
My immune system has been so low this pgy that I have had many colds and tummy bugs etc. It is so hard but just keep remembering how wonderful it will be when you have your new arrival

LittleSarah · 06/04/2009 18:18

Ineed - Sorry your ill! Poor you. I am definitely going to try and cook and freeze a few meals in the next few weeks. I didn't last time but it was really just me then, now have dh and dd to deal with too!

laura - I agree, get that stuff up... we aren't going to bother getting cot until after bairn is born, have moses basket up on stand (need new mattress though), buggy is folded in cupboard as we don't have room to keep it up. One thing we are going to do soon is move stuff around in our room so that we have room for baby clothes/nappies and moses basket.

LittleSarah · 06/04/2009 18:19

Sorry you're ill NOT sorry your ill!

Bad (wannabe) journalist

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 06/04/2009 18:23

Thanks for all your get well messages... going to dose myself up on paracetamol and have some Vicks tonight and hope I sleep again. Hope you are all feeling better x

a BIG hello to everyone else x

chocciedooby · 07/04/2009 09:13

How was your night Ineed?

Thanks Laura for your well wishes. Not had fainting spells ever in pregnancy before so yesterday was a bit scary. Feel ok so far this morning. Wasn't it yourself that had been fainting last week? How are you now?

The sun is shining here today .

Rained all day yesterday and was a long one. Must get kids out for some fresh air. Have a good day ladies. .

Tee2072 · 07/04/2009 09:17

Morning Juners!

Had the following conversation with DH as I was getting out of bed at 2am:

Me: getting out of bed
DH: what's wrong?
Me: you've just kneed me in the bump, I'm going to spare room.
DH: SNORE.

End scene

Luckily I got right back to sleep in spare bed! I think there is not enough room in our bed for all three of us!

Hope you had a restful night Ineed.

Everyone stop fainting!!

June2009 · 07/04/2009 09:56

Quick hello to everyone while I'm having a quick tea break.

Tee DH is also sleeping through the night depsite my turning over every hour and coming&going to the loo. I prefer it that way, at least he's not grumpy in the morning ;)

WelshSuprise Welcome :D and I'm also taking 2 wheelie luggage (plane cabin ones) to the birth centre. (They're not leopard print but I wish they were!) Dh can have snacks and drinks in a gym bag.

I tried on a dress I wore for a wedding last year and it still kinda fits with dh's help to do the zip up so that's sorted my problem of what to wear for the next one coming in 2 weeks. Now onto shoes, I need comfortable & stylish ones (does that even exist?).

Has anyone got anything nice planned for easter holiday weekend?

lauraloo09 · 07/04/2009 10:10

Morning all

choccie yeah it was me fainting last week not had another spell since so fingers crossed thats the end of me fainting

tee your bedtime scene reminds me of my own - and we have a kingsize bed and it's still not big enough esp when you inclyude my massive support pillow from mothercare think DH will be sleeping in the spare room from now on me and baby need the big bed

june glad your dress still fits you and you have something nice to wear for the wedding...as for comfy and stylish shoes i didn't think they existed

In work just now suffering with (what i think is) a bad head cold and throat infection Well to be honest it's more throat infection and what feels like sinusitis is there anything I can take for this? been keeping me up all night as it baby (which I dont mind) really long weekend cannot come quick enough neither can next Tuesday at 4pm

A BIG hello to everyone else x

LittleSarah · 07/04/2009 10:18

June - Is dd's birthday party on Saturday, does that count as something nice? I'm not sure to be honest, but it will be interesting; 15 4 and 5 year olds bouncing madly on trampolines for 1.5 hrs!

On the Sunday we are having Easter lunch at my mum's so that should be nice.

Don't owe as much to nursery as first feared but do owe a fair bit! Luckily dh should be able to borrow it from his grandpa which means we can pay it back to him instead and get arsey nursery man off our back immediately.

Tee2072 · 07/04/2009 10:34

June no real plans except to go to Ikea and buy some baby furniture! Mostly just relax with DH as we both have a nice long weekend. He then has the rest of the week off, so he's chief in charge of putting furniture together!!

ermintrude13 · 07/04/2009 10:36

Morning all!

Tee I find that Humphrey Cushion, my full-length thermapillow thingy, acts as protection from DH's flailing limbs in the night .

June How can you fit in a non-preg dress?! Was it a smock?! Very . I went to a wedding last week and tried on loads of shoes, ending up with these from M&S. Mine were in black, but they gave a little lift, were v flexible and comfortable from 3 pm to 11pm so although I wouldn't normally go for M&S 'Footglove' aka Old Lady collection, I have no regrets! They looked a bit like dancing shoes and would have been v comfy for salsa.

LittleSarah, glad you sorted out the nursery fees, and your bouncing party sounds like great fun

LittleSarah · 07/04/2009 11:30

God, I still have to sort out dress for graduation ball, think I will worry about that in May!

Nesting beginning to kick in, just got together three bags of books for charity shop and have began to move the furniture as I mentioned last night...

June2009 · 07/04/2009 12:56

Erm Well, it was one size too big for me to start with last year, and it's one of these very long dresses with a gathered seaming under the bust (no waist iyswim) and plenty of room at the front.
Now I couldn't do it up on my own and Dh did struggle to zip it right up at the bust but managed it in the end, and there's a light cardigan going with it.
Thanks for the link I'll have a look at M&S at the weekend.
I'm going to wear some tights with it though so not sure how it would look.
I love shoes but I hate buying them, you can never tell whether they will be comfortable or not and over the years I have accumulated a few pairs that look nice but I can't even last an hour in them.

ermintrude13 · 07/04/2009 13:42

June I wore tights and instead of getting proper pregnancy ones which cost a bomb I bought M&S bodyshapers (2 for £3) in Large and they were perfect. My normal size is 12 and I'm 5'4" so they went up to almost under my bust and supported the bump nicely. Sounds like you need dressier shoes than mine - M&S did do quite a lot of strappy ones that might do the trick.

Tee2072 · 07/04/2009 14:29

Is anyone else getting slightly stabbing pains across, shall we say, a delicate area? Its different than ones where the baby kicks down, these are sort of continuous, whenever I walk!

Gee, isn't the 3rd trimester fun ladies? [maniacal laughter icon]

lauraloo09 · 07/04/2009 14:54

tee not had any of those pains, just the pains when baby kicks down there sorry hopefully someone will be along to help you

Just wondering has anyone eles' skin went from one extreme to the next? I have had very oily skin around my face since the start of this pregnancy resulting in many nasty spots which havn't gone away (people always telling me I have a bad complexion what a way to make me feel better) but now, after buying facial wipes and using clearasil 2 days last week (not used clearasil since friday) I have the driest face ever and not even good moisturising cream is helping me

Going to an army passing out parade on friday and i dont have anything nice to wear, anyone make any recommendations?

bunnymother · 07/04/2009 15:28

Afternoon ladies!

Am writing from our lovely new home ! The move went v well, although am now surrounded by boxes, so a quick one from me and then back to the unpacking...

choccie - congratulations on your DSIS?s daughter! What a big baby! Which prob wasn?t much fun to deliver, but great for holding ? love fat babies!

Doris - bummer about pranging the car. Hopefully that is your bad luck over and done w. Congrats on the new clothes! I went to H&M yesterday and got a new dress ? special treat! I am buying tens machine from ebay ? either Lady Tens or Femme Tens.

Tee - can now completely empathise w you re NHS and anaemia. I got my 28wk bloods back and they were marked ?no further action?. I don?t understand what the various results actually mean, asked one of the many random midwives I see. Apparently am anaemic (9.4 I think it is), and at the bottom of my results it shouldhave said something along the lines of ?get thee to a GP for a supplement prescription?, but somehow didn?t . Any faith I did have in NHS care, has ebbed further away. This is now Bunny led care!

Daisy - your gardening sounds just wonderful ? enjoy!! Will you put pictures on your profile?

LittleSarah - sorry to hear about your nursery seeming to think you owe lots of money!! Hardly inspires you to pay up, though, when they can?t actually pinpoint what is owed and when! . Sounds v similar to my current British Gas dealings.

June - LOL at forgetting what you were off to Mothercare for! Sounds like you had fun shopping! My DH is determined that we are getting a monitor that helps prevent SIDS. Think they are quite expensive of course, ?sigh?. DH is all about the gadgets so imagine we will be getting the Rolls Royce of monitors .

Ineed - really good news re your FIL coming out of the hospital! I can?t stop eating chocolate, either. Although, went clothes shopping yesterday, and clearly my love of chocolate is showing ? am a big mama! V re your nursery decorating! Sounds lovely!

Laura - agree w Tee that your workmates sound bovine. I love To Kill a Mockingbird, too! Have you seen Gentleman?s Agreement? Also v good and starring the delectable Gregory Peck. I just shoved our Phil & Teds (just delivered - VERY exciting!!) into the storage bay outside, but I know DH will have a fit. He is very paranoid re germs and our baby, he wants it parked right in the middle of the living room so he can be sure no germs get near it!! No way! And, to add to his worries, he is convinced I am going to fall over or get hit by a car, so have been issued instructions re safe road crossings and how to get in and out of the shower! Hilarious! Picking up moses basket, hopefully tomorrow.

blueberry - no apologies needed on this thread!! Hello to you! Sorry to hear you aren?t sleeping well, though

Insy = sorry to hear about your camping fiasco! Assume it will be funny when you remind your DCs in years to come?

ermintrude - I must also step AWAY from the computer!!

Welsh - love the image of you as a diva w leopard print bag!!

Ladies - hello to everyone else! Next step for me is the labour bag! Have been so excited buying my Phil & Teds buggy and moses basket, forgot about what happens first !

Baby is kicking alot and I can feel her move, wiggle and turn all the time, too. What an active little chubber I am going to have!

No Easter getaway for us (UK Border Agency holding our passports hostageprocessing our visa applications). Instead, we are going to play at being tourists in London and do things we always mean to, but don?t ie visit the Tate Britain etc.

Well, this is an essay and I really have to unpack, have lovely afternoons!

June2009 · 07/04/2009 15:44

Laura I practically live in my dorothy perkins over the bump jeans.

For special occasions I'll usually wear leggings and a long t-shirt top+cardigan or long jumper (which was originally a short dress bought for a tenner from asda!)
In fact I have a few short dresses (just over the knee, nothing tooo short!) that I wear as a top now!
They're the type that gather under the bust, there must be a name for that style. (gathered-front?)
I also have a square neck pregnancy dress I got from mothercare, also gathered at the front (I look HUGE in it.)
Both worn with the cream soft whool Ugg boots that sil got me for xmas, so comfy.

I still have ugly spots on my chin (admitedly a lot less than a couple of months ago) and my face is dry, though not as much as my hands and arms which require a good slap of E45 to feel normal!

Which reminds me my hand accidentally brushed against a cot saleswoman's arm at the baby show and it was unbelievably soft!? Had me completely baffled. (I had to bite my lip not to ask how she got it so soft, that would have been weird I think).

Tee I have not had these pains, maybe worth checking it with obs? That kind of pain sounds muscular rather than an infection or thrush. (did you ask on the "pregnancy" thread).
