Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

Jael I hope your drs appt went OK and that they've been able to answer some of your questions. To be honest, I can't answer most of your questions. These really are for a doctor or someone with more knowledge about mini strokes. I do know that I've accompanied a few women to an MRI scan during pregnancy (I think the last one was about 35 weeks), so I think it must be OK. Also, they've got to weigh up the risks to you and to baby. If it can affect baby mildly, but not knowing for sure what happened to you might have even more serious consequences for you, then of course it's better to have the scan. In the mean time I'd suggest you take it easy and rest and make sure there's always someone around to keep an eye on you in case it happens again.

fi: good luck with the househunting.

sausagen Hope your meeting goes OK.

Gotta go now, because the babysitter is coming in an hour and then I've got to go to my work's goodbye thing for my colleague and me who have gone off on mat leave. And of course I've got to make myself beautiful before I go

Any fellow GD 's on here at the mo? llare etc

I have a question.

Was given my test strips and monitor thing yesterday but no real diet advice. Yesterday I had to test before dinner and before I went to bed: before dinner 6.2 before bed 9.6 (had a piece of fish and 2 tablespoons of baked beans followed by strawberries)
Today I had to test 1 hr after meals Breakfast (one piece of wholemeal toast 2 tablespoons of b.beans cup of tea) 7.8 Lunch (wholegrain roll with cheese/salad, apple, small pack low fat crisps, caffeine free diet coke) 9.2

supposed to have readings of pre-meal 4-7 after meals no higher than 7.8

Am I eating really unhealthily?

LoobyLou36 · 25/03/2009 17:52

just read back through posts..
jael sorry to hear whats happened - hope you get some answers from the doctors

sausage hope your tel call goes okay

Jael · 25/03/2009 18:09

Just to update. Dr said he couldn't say for definate whether it was that type of migraine, as the symptoms are so similiar to those of the mini stroke. He said, as I am compltely normal again, and had nothing since, he would suggest waiting 5 weeks till I've had the CS, and have the MRI scan then, he searched his computer, and couldn't find any information on the effects, as he said, their are problem no cases out there, which i understand, so think for now, it's a case of carrying on with the rest of the pregnancy, and as soon as babys out, i'll be having the MRI. X

I'm measuring smaller for my dates. The student mw measured me 26cm at 32+3, but the mw Sister got 29-30cms. Though she thinks bump is lying back to back and my bump isn't showing fully - if that makes any sense?? Not too worried. Re cs debate - I've had my appendix out and that set me back 6 weeks, so am aware the impact a cs can have. I will try a vag birth (ds born vag OK), but if there is a medical reason to have a cs I won't put my child at risk. I dont like the thought of a episiotomy either - but neither do I like the thought of a broken arm - wouldn't choose it, but if it happens you cope with it... just keep it clean! Plenty of salty baths. The only thing I really DO NOT want is pethadine - I want a clear head for this one.

matthewandbumpsmummy - I second (or third or fourth) the advice you've already been given about going to see your GP. I had pnd last time and I have spoken to my gp about my fears of it returning. So she had referred me back to see my consultant psychotherapist, psychitrist and also have an appointment tomorrow with the community mentla health nurse. I feel ok at the minute, but reassured, comforted and supported that the safety net is already in place for me should I need it.

Re body piercings - I had my belly button done, but took it out during last preg and never repleced it. But I do have another piercing.... errr... a clitoral one... problem is - do I need to remove it before birth??

Welcome new posters!! I've only read to page 6 here, so don't know if the list has been copied here yet... if not I'll update later on when I get back from Beavers. New mums - please either add yourself, or if you dont' know how give us your info - ie due date, any other kids etc and you'll get added.

Oh - Malibu & Milk - what have I started!!!!?? Thank God for the 1990s!!

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 19:32

divedaisy I have no idea if you need to remove your other piercing i suppose it depends on the type and whether it would get in the way/catch on anything during delivery?!

Febes · 25/03/2009 19:33

Ohhh Divedaisy Did it hurt when you got it done???

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 19:34

ooooo divedaisy reading that made me wince! Does that not hurt????? how naiive am i! i have no idea whether you would need to take it out, maybe ask your midwife, she'll know!

jael hope dr has helped to put your mind at rest! try and take it easy, and not to worry, not long to go now

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 19:34

jael glad you and your doctor now have a plan of action. I'm sure if they were really concerned that they'd be pushing you to do the mri now... so that must be a good sign

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 19:39

sausage hoping your phone call wasn't as bad as you were expecting... sending hugs if it was bad news.

looby i'm sure one of our gd's will be on tonight but I don't think your choice of foods look unhealthy although the caffeine free coke is prob not so good as it would have been laden with sugar. Even if it was diet coke it would be full of sweeteners and i don't know if they are any better?

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 19:43

BTW i'd be way too embarrassed to get a piercing done 'down there'! The most daring i've been is the tattoo just above my left boob... even with my expanding pregnancy boobs with ds it was out of the stretching zone and still looks normal. The tattoo artist was obviously spot on figuring out a safe place for it

LoobyLou36 · 25/03/2009 19:48

I had a ham omelette and a salad for dinner tonight so it will be interesting to see what reading I get later

divedaisy ouch! did it hurt?

I've only got my nose and belly button pierced.

llareggub · 25/03/2009 20:03

Looby well done you on your breakfast reading. It is always my worst of the day and the only way I can manage it is to have a small piece of wholemeal bread with egg or bacon. I really do not want to see anymore bacon ever again!

Lunchtime, I think you might be better off having the crisps later in the afternoon if you feel yourself going a bit low. What you could do is have the wholemeal roll with a large tuna salad to bulk things out a bit. I suspect the apple might be laden with natural sugars, and that, with the roll and the crisps might have sent your sugars up. Not sure about the coke, I've never had it so don't know what the sugar or sweetener content would be.

For your evening meal fish is great, and again, you could have a large salad or veg to bulk things out. I think the strawberries might have been the culprit, you know! I know some GD people who just avoid fruit completely and stick to veg. Alternatively, have a look for reduced sugar beans, as they might be better than normal beans.

My trick is never to sit down after eating, so I go straight from the meal table to clearing up, or some other sort of housework and try to work up a sweat. Or I go for a walk. It always helps lower my blood sugar. If I sit on the sofa after eating I always get a higher reading.

Don't be disheartened if you end up on insulin. I ate very little to begin with and it made no difference to my readings. I just needed the insulin and once I went onto insulin I found I could eat far more...I was starving pre-insulin! But try the exercise thing too.

Today I have had:

Bacon sarnie for breakfast (reading 7.7 but I went back to bed!)
Tuna mayo salad wrap with olives for lunch with a carrot and hummus dip (reading 6.4)
Jacket potato, cheese and greek salad for evening meal (reading 6.4)

I'm reading post eating again today. I do have insulin though, don't forget.

divedaisy · 25/03/2009 20:23

Belgian - re Catholic names - I suppose it depends where in the world you live. In N Ireland there is some overlap of catholic/protestant names - eg Peter, Thomas, Joseph, William (Will or Liam), Margaret, Catherine/Katheen... Catholic names can be Liam, Declan, Connor, Donal (Domnhnall in Irish), Dermot, Cormac, Brendan, Cahal, Gerard, Niall, Oisin, Tony, Patrick, Mairead, Mary, Bridget, Roisin, Michele/Michael, Grainne, Kelly, Niamh (pronounced Neeve), Pauline/Paul... and these names generally tend to be also classified as Irish names. Some can be spelt in Irish or Anglican.

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 20:35

I'm trying to remember who said they thought their LO had dropped. Very of that tonight... this week i've got to the breathless stage. Roll on LO having dropped into position so i get some room back in there!

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 20:37

On the other hand... at least i don't have the heavy feeling 'down there' you get when they do drop into place

divedaisy · 25/03/2009 20:41

Aphasia, Jael (in case it hasn't been answered, and apologies if it has) is the inability to remember what something is. You know the feeling where something is on the tip of your tongue, but the word doesn't 'come forward' - that's it but on a bigger degree. Dysphasia - is the inability to speak, which can happen also to stroke patients. Hope you are feeling better xx

Also the Drs wouldn't put you through any treatment without first telling you the risks to you & baby. The risk inMRI is greates in first trimester. How did it go with your GP?? WIll hopefully find out on nexxt page (on page 7 at the mo... & never can remember more than one or 2 posts at a time!!! Thats bad memory isn't it!!)

Oh emmabemmasmum - I love Addison!! I also liked Maddison (Maddy) but DH doesn't like it AT ALL

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 20:57

divedaisy i have a Madison! or Madi as she is known, beautiful name, although I am slightly biased!lol!

llareggub · 25/03/2009 21:02

My DH is a real pain sometimes! He has put our old kitchen table and chairs on freecycle and told the chap to come here after 9pm this evening. DH is not home yet, and there is no way I want a strange man traipsing into the house at night time while I am on my own. Honestly! He knows that I get more anxious in pregnancy, but inviting a strange man to our house when he isn't here isn't exactly helping.

Grrrrr.

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 21:07

llaregub i'd feel the same as you... is your dh expected home soon?

flippineck · 25/03/2009 21:13

Hello all, and grrrr! At lunch time, I'd typed a response acknowledging loads of bits of converssations, the new and returning faces and bumps and it's not here! And of course there's been loads of stuff since and I can't remember what I wrote anyway. Sorry if you think I'm ignorning something, I just can't keep up.

Jael - what a scary experience for you. I hope it doesn't happen again, and that you are feelng better after seeing the dr this evening.

sausage - hope all ok with you.

matthewandbumpsmummy - can only second what others have said, you need to talk to someone. We're here, of course, but someone medical too.

We're still struggling with names too. Lots of contenders for a girl, but only one for a boy, and neither of us are totally convinced but it anyway. DD thinks the bimp is a girl - yesterday she said it wsa her little sister! Very cute.

llareggub · 25/03/2009 21:17

Phew! He is home. I can relax.

Quick question, if you had a 15 year old coming over to wash your car, how much would you be willing to pay? We have a huuuuuuge car and she has quoted £5.50. Maybe I am projecting my own unwillingness to wash it on to her, but it seems like an awful lot of work for £5.50. What do you reckon?

I'm also hoping to check her out as a potential helper for when little one arrives, as she is only a few doors away so could potentially be quite useful as a general mothers help or something for a few hours in the evening when DH is working evenings. So, I'd like to make sure she is happy to work for us!

LoobyLou36 · 25/03/2009 21:18

fikelly I've got that heavy feeling so think my LO has dropped - also can't fit into work polo shirts anymore - bump has definately changed shape, moved lower

llare reading after dinner 4.9 - so that's better isn't it?

divedaisy · 25/03/2009 21:20

I am amazed I told you all of my piercing!!! I got it done about 4 years ago after coming through my Psychotherapy treatment as a celebration of my sexuality!! I thought long and hard about it - I'd previously got my ears, nose and naval pierced and like body piercings!! So I phoned round a few places. Some had the stipulation that I had to bring a friend -I couldn't ask any of my friends to come!!! OR my DH either!!! So eventually I found a studio that accepted my choice to come alone, and a bloke did it!!! I figured he'd done loads of them so my fanjo was just another one!! IT was a bit surreal.... sitting there stripped from the waist to my socks (he he!!) He 'assessed' my suitablity - to ensure there were no major blood vessles inthe area, and then he used baby buds with local anaesthetic to freeze me... Once I was well numbed up he did the piercing and I was free to go! It really didn't hurt! And it wasn't really that embarrassing... it was amazing how normal the conversation was!!!! Anyhow, it really doesn't 'do' much sexually for me, but I know it's there and I like it, and it kinda makes me feel naughty!!!!! It only is a silver ring with a ball - I often wonder if there is fancier jewelry I can get to adorn myself!! My belly button piercing REALLY hurt me. Don't have it in any more - but then don't have the belly to show it off either!! I would love to get the wee bit of the ear in front of the ear canal pierced - the part near the jaw/cheek.

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 21:28

good news llareggub Phew not sure how much to give for washing your car.. we've not had one for over 2years! if you feel she's done a great job and under charged herself you could always top it up with a tip.

LO has hiccups again! my bump is bouncing like the invisible man on a trampoline. lol!
