Thought I'd better start the new thread before it was too late. Here we go!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Blottedcopybook · 25/03/2009 14:30

chocbun Yeah - I seem to take ages to get to 5cm then BOOM, out they come!

llare Glad that things are looking better today

frazzled My MIL does my head in so I continually suggest really hideous names to get a rise out of her. I am a bad woman . Both of my boys have quite Scottish names (Findlay and Nairn) - there are some nice ones out there apart from Hamish, honestly! I like Will - do you think hubby would come round to Charles if you shortened it to Charlie? Just go on about Bonnie Prince Charlie and how Scottish he is ;)

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/03/2009 14:32

Hello all

Quick post before off to get DD2 from school.

Re cs's - I haven't thought much about them, haven't had one and hope not too, purely because of the recovery period. But, if it's the best way when I finally have this baby.........

Names - we've had a brief discussion and bizarrely like the same boys name, which is good. - Frazz I love William. Girls names a bit more difficult, already having 2 girls without similar names, IYSWIM. I call DD2 Little Brown Bear (because she looks like DH who is Big Brown Bear - olive skin, HUGE brown eyes, brown hair) and she said 'we should call the baby Sienna'. I was quite impressed, as it's a shade of brown, innit? However, it won't be Sienna!!

I remember that DD1 (who was 5 or 6) wanted to call DD2 'Twinkle' or 'Blossom'.

Hi to newbies and good thoughts to all who are sad/worried/tearful (with you on that one)/aching/tired/heartburned out/feeling enormous (my mother said to me the other day "Hello Darling, how are you? Feeling porky?") Cheers mum . I bit back "Hello Mother, how are you? Feeling old?" I am very horrible and tetchy at the moment.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 25/03/2009 14:34

And Jael

My God, how are you? How awful. Sending best wishes your way...............

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 14:38

jael you poor thing, must've been so scarey for you! the same thing happened to me just 3 weeks ago and it turned out to be a really bad mirgrain, it has only ever happend twice, once when I was 15 and the recent one, the one when I was 15 was almost identical to yours, i completly lost it and didnt know who anyone was, didnt recognise my own family, ouln't talk properly and lost all feeling down right hand side of my body, the recent one i lost all the feeling down my right hand side, even the inside of my mouth and tounge went numb, i could move my arm and leg but had no feeling of it and wasn't aware of it, my vision went in my right eye and I couldnt talk properly, it lasted for about 45 mins then I had a really strong headache above my left eye, the Dr's said I suffer from a type of mirgrian that begins with H, cant remember what its called, but I am no longer allowed to take the combined pill because of it, they said it was just the hormones that caused it, at 15 with periods starting and now because of pregnancy. Did they say anything about it being a mirgrain? Did you get a headache with it or after it (although having a headach isnt always a sympton of mirgrain)
If I were you, I'd go and have the scan, just to be on the safe side, how are you feeling now? I felt like I had a hangover
the next day, really tierd and lethrgic. Have you spoken to the midwife at all? BTW Im 22 too! Spooky huh!

EmmalinaC · 25/03/2009 14:39

Jael that sounds terrifying. Hope you're ok. Belgian said she had a busy day today but I'm sure she'll be back later with some wise words!

Blottedcopybook · 25/03/2009 14:42

Jael What you described with your speech is called Aphasia. That would indicate that something is going on with the left hemisphere of your brain - that would also tie in with your right arm going numb - but the fact that it's passed is a very good sign. Did they check your blood pressure and do an ECG?

I'd call your consultant back if I were you and explain your concerns, I can't believe they've discharged you without addressing these worries! FWIW, a 34 weeker is going to be pretty hardy, might need a couple of days in SCBU if he/she was born now but shouldn't have major troubles.

hugs

Jael · 25/03/2009 14:46

Chocolate bunnies- I did have a headache afterwards, behind both eyes and my temples. But it wasn't my typical migraine headache. I got told i suffered from migraines about 4 years ago after alot of very bad headaches, and was put of paramax. I haven't had to take anything for them for over a year though...I don't know whether to see if it can wat till baby's born, it's 5 weeks till my CS, I'm frightened it's going to happen again though, and I just want to know what it was for sure, and why it happened to me, I don't want to hurt the baby though, not this far on...he's been perfectly healthy up to now, do I risk that? I'm so

Jael · 25/03/2009 14:50

They did my blood pressure about 4 times in there, no ECG though. My BP was fine. If the baby came now I think he'd be ok, he's about 6 1/2 7lb, but it's not him coming early that worries me, it's what effects this MRI scan may have on him, seeing as he's perfectly healthy at the moment, what could it do to him? And that's what I can't find out. The doctor gave me no information at all and there's nothing on the internet that I can find.

pulapula · 25/03/2009 15:07

Jael- how worrying, but hopefully you can get to see your consultant, and if they think there's any risk to baby, then can bring your cs forward.

Frazzled- my husband is a Timothy so watch what you say lol. But he is known as Tim (thankfully).

My name shortlist is as follows:
Charlie
Fred (Freddie)
William (Will)
Harry
Samuel (Sam)
Oliver (Ollie)

If you think from my scan photo whether any of these names might particularly suit him, I'd be interested to hear! I think he could be an Oliver...

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 15:21

jael I dont think we'll ever get a definative answer as to why it happened, what we have really was the same thing wasn't it, and if it helps, no-one was worried about me or bump when I had mine, they did all checks and said as long as baby was active and normal then nothing to worry about, i didn't have the scan, although dr did want them to but couldn't because of pregnancy, same as x-ray secnario i think. I was awful the week after worried it would happen again, but it hasn't so I've tried not to think about it, there has been 7 years between the two I have had, did you take anything for it at the time? I was told you can't take any migraine medication when pregnant and could only have paracetemol. Speak to your midwife, Im sure she'll be able to help you, if there was any concern Im sur they would whip baby out of you asap, my Dr has a habit of putting the fear of god in me for nothing.
Try not to worry, Im sure you'll be fine, try and rest as much as poss the next few days and you'll soonbe feeling a little more normal.

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 15:23

blotted is that Aphasia what I could have? what is it? no-one mentioned that, just that it was some kind of mirgraine (beginning with H) because it affected my right hand side

sausagenmash · 25/03/2009 15:40

Jael - what you experienced sounds exactly like what my migraines are like. Paramax is not a very effective drug for migraines - its only paracetamol and an anti-emetic (anti sicky drug), although I do appreciate we can't take 'proper' anti migraine tablets at the mo - I usually swear by Imigran, which you can buy at the pharmacy at Boots. Also, with reference to what you said about not having to take anything for a migraine for about over a year - migraines are buggers, they just come and go as they please. I had one the other week, and before that, I last had one in July at a friend's wedding. Even though they can have proven triggers, sometimes they have no rhyme or reason. I feel a right div - I know what to say, but the words just don't come out.

If I were you, I'd phone the hospital or your midwife, with a list of questions, just like what you have typed down on here. I think choc is right, though - try and rest... although I know its easier to say than do..

.... my tutors are calling me at 5pm. I am shi**ing myself. Talk about screwing up my holiday. This'll be 4 years of work down the pan if I've failed, and also the hopes of getting a job in academia. Tsk, sod 'em, I'll appeal - they won't dare face the wrath of a hormonal woman!

Blottedcopybook · 25/03/2009 15:47

chocbun Hemiplegic migraine? (more info here on wikipedia ) Yes, the speech impairment would be classed as aphasia, it's a symptom rather than a diagnosis although it can be long lasting (or permanent) in stroke patients or other brain injuries. It's actually a pretty good indicator as to your recovery if you've had aphasia and come back from it. Note well: I am not a Doctor!

jael All I could find with a quick google search was this page on NetDoctor which says that MRI should be avoided in the first trimester but the responding Doctor couldn't find any catalogued risk for after that stage. See what your consultant has to say.

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 15:48

3 of us with that same thing, v.v.v. spooky!

I hope everything goes ok sausage will keep my fingers crossed or you. Hell hath no fury like a pregnant lady rage!

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 16:02

jael how terrifying I don't know anything re mri risks or migraines but echo everyone in phoning the doctors with your queries & concerns. sending big hugs.

llareggub · 25/03/2009 16:03

Good luck sausage I'll be thinking of you. You too, jael

I'm have another sit down after mopping the downstairs floor and tidying the playroom. I opted for the "chuck everything in boxes" approach to tidying rather than making sure everything is in the right place. Just the living room left now...

emmabemmasmom · 25/03/2009 16:07

Afternoon ladies!

Thank you again for all the welcome massages. Feel truely welcomed

I love reading what is going on with everyone and knowing that I am not alone in the gripes of pregnancy. Glad to know that everyone seems to be hanging in there.

So much has been said today it is hard to respond to everything.

We had a hard time with names but we made a list of 10...I numbered them 1-10 (1 being most liked) and DH numbered. Then we crossed off the lowest ones and were left with 3...then we wrote them out with middle names and last name and picked the one that sounded best...that was our crazy anal system anyway lol We are having another DD and we had Sara, Hannah, and Isla as our final 3...ended up with Sara Addison (for my sister)...however once I see DD2 that could change!

Having a good(ish) day. I got my ILR Visa today which is a huge stress off my shoulders! I can truely relax knowing I will not be kicked out of the UK lol

However, I have unpacked the twin pushchair we bought ages ago and found out it does not fit in our car. So now I am stuck with a brand new pushchair that I cannot use and that Mothercare won't take back I have it posted for sale on here if anyone interesed?? lol

Gert2a · 25/03/2009 16:21

sausage good luck with phone call, let's hope it's a pleasant surprise, rather than the bad news.

emmabemmasmom I like your name choosing strategy! We had our names for both boy and girl sorted within a week of finding out we were pregnant, I too am now worried that the baby won't look like it's chosen name when it arrives, as we have given no further thought to it since very early pregnancy!!

jael lots of positive thoughts to you.

Have had lovely day of getting to the bottom of the ironing pile! I am so loving maternity leave. It's Parentcraft part 2 tonight - coping with labour. Am sure it'll be scintillating!

Jael · 25/03/2009 16:37

Just to let you know, I've booked a doctors appointment, I'm going at 5:10, I hope they don't tell me I'm wasting their time...but I've got so many questions that I want answering etc before I definately say yes to the MRI scan. I posted under general health and had a reply from a lady who said that she trained in that field, and that there shouldnt be any posible risks to a baby of 34 weeks, which has put me abit at ease, we'll see what the doctor says though, thanks for all your messages. Do you really think that it could have been a migraine though? They never mentioned that once in he hospital. X

let us know how you get on jael im sure it'll be fine, in my opinion i reckon it was a mirgraine, just going on the fact it was exactly the same that happend to me, and sausage and it didnt last very long, but Im not a doctor, by any stretch of the imgination.

blotted will take a look at that link now, im sure thats what the Dr. called it.

FiKelly · 25/03/2009 17:05

I agree dandy about being on the cusp. hoping the garden is as huge as the schedule makes it look.. ds and lo could play football, have a slide, play house, sandpit and still leave room for a vegetable plot for me (it already has a green house too) and plenty of grass to relax in the summer sunshine if we get some

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 17:07

blotted there are alot of words that mean diddly squat to me in that link lol! but I think that is what he said it was, he said that I was no longer allowed to take the combined pill because of it??

chocolatebunnies · 25/03/2009 17:22

hope everything is ok sausage

ReeBee · 25/03/2009 17:36

Hi ladies,

Quick post before I do (more) work... mainly to comment as there have been so many conversations today!
Jael, you poor thing - fingers crossed you get some positive answers.
And ditto sausage, hopefully the news might not be so bad.
grumpy, at you / your mum's conversation!

It's been really interesting reading all the name messages - funny how a lot of the ones DH and I liked have come up here. blotted, we thought we'd agreed on Findlay / Finlay for ages but it's now become so popular around us, we're reconsidering as I don't want him to be one of 4 or 5 in the same class. Am of you starting earlier and being one of the original ones!

emmabemmasmom we tried the marks out of 10 system and did manage to discount some but are now wobbling about our top ones... We also found that our tastes are often very different! We both like Bodie (but our surname starts with a B as well so DH has reservations for that reason - why?!), and also we like Kelly but I'm not sure about having to spend years saying in the next breath, 'yes, he's a boy'. That's DH's favourite though.

Hmmm, must keep thinking. Have started to work my way backwards through my baby names book as I never get any further than L when reading it forwards. Have managed to discount anything beginning with a Z, Y and X - it's going to be a long process!

Loving all the girls' names - so much easier to find a selection you really like IMO.
Rose is very pretty and Niamh was on our list for a girl. In fact, I reckon I could find at least 20 girls' names I'd be happy with! But we're definitely not having a girl, aaargh!
